Rude staff
by Sexyrachel
The food was not bad, but it was not the best either. Mardi Gras restaurant was a lot better than this. I had asked the server for crawfish special with dirty rice instead of white rice. She said, "I'm sorry, but we do not allow that." I said, "Why?" She replied, "We just don't." That made me angry, but I was hungry, so I figured I would just eat what I could. It was good, but it frustrated me that I could not just have prepared dirty rice with my crawfish special. Janice my server was very rude to me I won't go there again!

Wife and I ate on the patio. There was an awesome zydeco band playing called the zydeco dots. Our server was a young guy named T.J. that we had a blast with! We WILL be coming back!!! Can't wait for crawfish season!
Pros: incredible food and drink specials!!
Cons: not crawfish season yet :(

Prob the best crawfish I've ever had!
by Xtian
I consider my self a big crawfish fan. I don't mind driving far or paying a little extra to find a good crawfish boil. I've been to MGG seven times and I have to say it's probably the best crawfish I can find around town. The service is great too! I usually don't take the time to write a review but I have to recommend this place to all. Take care
Pros: delicious
Cons: parking

Wasn't what we expected
by uhsftbll21
I am not sure the crawfish were purged. There were a few crawfish that had a really bad smell to them. Other than that, they were a nice size and had a pretty good flavor.
Pros: nice waiter

Crawfish were too small and old
by CSMobileUser
It had been a while since I ate here, but my last memory of it was good. This time around I was extremely disappointed. The crawfish were too little to eat, and many of them were bad and overcooked. It actually grossed me out.
Pros: Example: best croissants in town
Cons: What are the drawbacks?

Overrated in the Heights
by Dinky09
Will never go again. A group of us, about 20 people, went for the mardi gras celebration. They expected us to all sit at two tables and the waitress commented the whole time about the size of the group, how we couldn't sit at more than one table and it was "ridiculous" and how she didn't want to be there. Her attitude didn't change and the rest of the staff were just as rude in addition to not knowing the menu or prices. To top it off everyone in the party was getting charged different prices for the warm beer, that they ran out of ice to keep cold. When I complained to the GM about the staff and pricing she was almost as rude as her staff and offered no apologies or even acknowledgement of my complaint. I had heard so much about the fat tuesday celebration here and it was a huge letdown. If it happens every year you would think the staff would be prepared to handle it. P.S. with only one restroom be prepared to find your car surrounded by tissue paper where party goers went out to the parking lot. EWWWW.
Pros: sell beer
Cons: ran out of ice for beer, one restroom, rude staff

The real deal
by PongGod
After reading the mostly positive reviews on this restaurant, I thought I should give it a try since I was in the mood for some good Cajun cooking and I wanted to try a new place. It was everything I was hoping for: delicious food, unpretentious atmosphere, friendly service and all at a reasonable price. We will definitely be coming back!
Pros: Great food, friendly service, reasonable prices
Cons: none

Man, was this good!
by mojomania
My mouth is still watering... I Just got back from Mardi Gras where I had a pound of boiled crawfish and some amazing courbouillon. The gumbo roux sauce was fantastic. The crawfish was the most satisfying 5 dollars I've spent in the last year. They were cooked just perfect, nice zing on the spices, wonderfully tasteful, bold flavor yet fresh, I've had crawfish 5 different times this last month but nowhere NEAR as good as at this wonderful uptown dive. I'd go back tomorrow except I'm leaving for Boston for a week... I told them I'm coming back for even more crawfish the day I get back!
My wife enjoyed the stuffed shrimp as well... she's not a fish eater (usually) but liked the roux sauce with flakes of catfish and crawfish so much she's going to order that Courboillon the next time too!

I must admit, I'm really happy I finally tried Mardi Gras Grill....
by FabFoodCritic08
After reading some of the comments made about this restaraunt, I'm really shocked. A friend of mine told me about this place, so we went, and I loved it! Starting with the Creole Crab Dip and a few other apps. I had a few #'s of Crawfish, which were excellent by the way. I know its not New Orleans, but pretty damn close. Service was great, management seemed to be on top of things. I can't think of one thing to complain about. I realize how expensive Crawfish is now days, but thats everywhere if you eat them. I've gone to places with good/cheap deals on boiled crawfish, you get what you pay for. Also, for the member "BWK", stop going if you dont like it so much. You sound like a total Ba Ba BIATCH to me!

Worst Crawfish Ever
by houstonnew
We are from New Orleans. The crawfish here were a terrible disappointment. It was as though they were boiled in dirty salt water and then rolled in spices. Who ever heard of outside spices on crawfish?!! We have yet to find decent boiled crawfish in Houston unless we boil ourselves. The gumbo was pretty good. The appetizer platter ok, but just not authentic New Orleans, more like bready , soggy fry.

by boychris83
the food is simply rediculously good. I wish it was bit bigger but it is real good. I've never been to a place that embraces the Mardi gras spirit so well. I mean from the moment you walk in you can feel the cajun warmth. The bartenders are quick to refresh my favorite brew. Im going again after work...i love it!
Pros: everything
Cons: nothing

Great Service, Great Staff & Great Food
by Asem@n-ii.com
Wow! I was so surprised to hear the review on 4/9/2008. I had just the opposite impression of Mardi Gras Grill. The waitstaff and bartenders are friendly and very helpful. The management is great! I had them be more than helpful to myself, my family, my children and handicapped family member. They went out of their way when they really did not have to do so. The food was great, the serve fast and efficient: the drinks (water & soft drinks) were always full, food arrived on-time, warm, tasty, exactly as described and the portions were so huge we took half of our food home for leftovers. As for parking--that complainer must have been drunk or confused---Mardi Gras Grill pays to rent a whole parking lot for their restaurant across the street and it clearly marked. Unfortunately patrons too cheap to apy valet at new places like Soma, WE & Max's use the Mardi Gras lot---I wonder when Mardi Gras will start towing????? Mardi gras Grill is great authentic Cajun cuisine with fabulous staff!. Some people just cannot be happy with anything---maybe that person was really rude or drunk & the managers were simply short to avoid unpleasantries with a unreasonable person.

Rude Management
by BWK
Mardi Gras Grill was the happening place in years past. Since the new owners and management, I have seen nothing good come out the restuarant. The service is the only thing that remains the same. The portions are a lot smaller and the prices are higher. That makes no sense to me and others that I have talked to. I had a manager come up and seat people that were not on the small waiting list and when she was asked why they were seated before others, she said that she did not care about that.. When we finally got seated, I saw the manger sitting at the table with the ones she took in front of everyone else eating with them. That is a good way to lose business. I still go ocassionally, but i am looking forward to the newest place opening down the street, 1400 is the name.
Pros: Great waitstaff and bartenders
Cons: Lousy parking, rude management

Disappointing crawfish
by nemo13
It looked to me that 2007 would be a good year for crawfish. Had some nice sized crawfish in March right here at Mardi Gras. Came back for the MG 3lbs for $10 crawfish in mid April and they sure seemed smaller. Just to be sure I went right over to Rajin Cajun on Richmond and had some mudbugs nearly three times the size of the ones I had just left. The only conclusion I can make is that Mardi Gras Grill buys mediums in order to offer a "deal". Very discouraging. I know I paid a lot more at Rajin Cajun but they were worth it.

HUGE spicy crawfish
by chiceater55
We heard that the crawfish here were awesome and boy did we hear correct! The crawfish at Mardi Gras are gigantic, wonderfully spiced, and affordable! On Tuesdays you can get 3 lbs for $10.50 which is a great deal considering the size! Any other day they are $4.95 which is still pretty good. If you have a craving for mudbugs - head on over to Mardi Gras. And even if your friends want crawfish and you don't, you can still join them since there's a large menu filled with tons of succulent seafood treats!
Pros: Boiled Crawfish, Large Menu

Best Cajun in Town...
by fields098
Coming from Cajun Country... this is just like being home. The food is great, reasonably priced, and the service is quick and tentative. Don't be fooled by the big chain restaurants... this is the real deal!
Pros: Parking is great... lots of it!
Cons: Your eyes are bigger than your stomach! Food is so tempting you order more.

Biggest Crawfish!
by specv81
This is where I have gotten the biggest crawfish in Houston, they never put the little ones that are hardly worth the energy to peel. Great price on beer too!

Best Cajun food in town
by dpetrick
You will not find better jambalaya west of New Orleans then the jambalaya at Mardi Gras Grill. At lunch they serve hearty portions along with great fresh bread. I love to sit outside on the patio and eat a couple of dozen oysters or tear through pounds of the best crawfish in the city. The staff is knowledgeable of the menu and friendly. Mardi Gras Grill is a great place to eat and have a couple of cold ones before heading to the Astros games.
Pros: jambalaya, huge crawfish, fresh oysters
Cons: I just wish crawfish season was all year

Mardi Gras Grill has some hits, some misses
by auramouth
My dinner club Eight Friends Out got to chow down at Mardi Gras Grill for 3 nights. The food was great--very spicy--my Cajun potatoes made my head lift off!!! Others praised the shrimp stuffed with crab meat and the blackened tuna. The Mississippi Mudslide was the favorite dessert, a chocolatey cream pie...tres delicieux!
Had a problem with the night managers trying to dissuade us from coming each night--they didn't like the large group taking up space. The first night, I was overcharged, but the General Manager was apologetic and made everything right. The third night was perfect, except now the night managers don't like me--c'est la vie! The wervers who waited on us, though, were fabulous! So, I have to say that, despite a few bad apples, the experience was tres bon, thanks to the professionalism of the GM Ronnie (Kudos!), the hard working servers, and the great Cajun food!
Pros: Spicy food, Friendly servers, GM is a pro
Cons: Refused reservations, Nite Mgt unfriendly, Not good for groups

best catfish in the world!!!
by wgzn
normally i dont enjoy catfish. because it usually tastes like mud. but one afternoon the travel channel was doing a story on various catfish places across the nation. suddenly i was hit with an overwhelming craving for the stuff!
considering that i live about 8 blocks from mardi gras, it was an obvious choice.
i was surprised with the "un-muddiest", freshest, least greasy, best catfish i'd ever had.
suspicious that maybe theyd run out of catfish and served me something else, i've been back twice more since and each time its been exactly the same - fantastic.
i dont know what these guys are doing, BUT IT WORKS!
service is good, easy parking and a relaxed atmosphere. price is a bit steep for what the product is, but at the end of the meal - you wont care!
Pros: catfish!!!!, catfish!!!!, catfish!!!!

OUTSTANDING!
by soadnirvana
As a proud Spanish Cajun, I opt to pursue the finest, and shall I say sloppiest cajun restaurants, but this place was none too shabby. Mardi Gras Grill, formerly Floyd's has crawfish only one can fantasize about. I go to New Orleans, very often and have had crawfish there and they were nasty and tasted like the swamp. These are beautiful, red shelled crawfish; with beautiful white meat inside. I used to go here so much for the crawfish, that they started to know me and still do.
Pros: THEIR CRAWFISH, Crab dip(depends), Location
Cons: Not enough zydeco, Sports is always on, Service, isnt the bes

Floyd's has changed their name to Mardi Gras Grill, promising the name is the only thing that changed. Tried for the first time last night and the food was delicious...especially the creamy crawfish bisque. Service was also very attentive.
