Customer Service problems

by Chiara S.

Problems with Montrose Veterinary Clinic:
We boarded our dog, 7 year old male mixed breed, while on a 4 day weekend trip recently. We picked the dog up and 5 days later our dog came down with kennel cough. We called the clinic and alerted them to the fact we had a sick dog. The first response from the front desk was you can schedule an appt. for Monday...we declined and said no, we have a sick dog and we want you to talk to the Vet and would like to pick up medications so we can treat the our dog before the kennel cough morphs to something more serious. The Clinic called us back and said we could stop by and pick up medication. We arrived at the clinic and were told the medication was $40 some dollars. We questioned this as it was clear our dog contracted kennel cough while being boarded at the Clinic. We asked the billing be discussed with Vet on duty and got attitude from the front desk. We were told, after checking with the Vet on duty, the bill would stand. This did not sit well with us and we told the front desk we did not agree with the decision as it did not seem to pass the test of what's fair. We paid the bill and left. We will not be back and will go elsewhere for veterinary care and services.
This clinic should think about ways to improve their business practices in several areas.
1. Front desk staff needs customer service training in working with and managing customer complaints and issues. As a customer we do not need a 20 something getting testy and upset because she has to deal with a upset customer. Get some training to manage these things professionally. The front desk sets the customer perception of the business so customer service training is a good investment.
2. Procedures to minimize highly contagious diseases like kennel cough need to be looked at and steps taken within the clinic facility to minimize infections.
3. Staff should think twice before blindly billing customers when there is an issue.
One hopes ownership will read this review and give some thought to the above recommendations.
In closing, there is an old car sales rule that still applies...if a customer has a good experience they will typically tell at least two people. If they have a bad experience they will typically tell ten people.
Do the math...

Montrose Veterinary Clinic is world class

by Eileen M.

I've been going to MVC for eight years and Dr. Powell and everyone else on every level of staff has been unfailingly kind to my four family-member pets, two dogs and two cats. The doctors have up to date knowledge of treatments and have kept everyone thriving, even my geriatric pets. I currently visit three times a week with my 19-year-old cat, who needs fluid treatment for her chronic kidney failure. She is doing remarkably well two years after her diagnosis. My pets have also received excellent care while boarding. The front desk staff keeps its cool under the most stressful and harried conditions.
I recommend the clinic to everyone I know.

Not Recommended for Boarding Geriatric Pets

by Lynn F.

I always found the veterinary care to be outstanding; however, I would not recommend boarding your pets if they are older/geriatric at the Montrose Veterinary Clinic. I boarded my dogs at this clinic, and when I picked them up, my oldest dog had sores on his back legs and feet from trying to stand up in his crate - he must have scraped his legs raw while lying in the crate, and the sores were not treated. Older dogs, of course, require extra care, additional walks, and a close eye to ensure that they do not run into any problems. It did not appear that they received the extra TLC that they needed while being boarded. I will not board my dogs there again.

Excellent Clinic

by lori d.

I took my puppy here to get its shots, While waiting I observed the way the receptionist treated all the clients, the atmosphere. Leah and Mindy were very helpful to everyone. The doctor that gave my little baby her shots was so kind. Should anything happen to my baby I will be sending her back here. In addition, to her well care treatments. I love this clinic and the people that work here.

I would never entrust my baby to people I did not believe in. Try this clinic you will love it.

Everyone I talked to in the lobby told wonderful stories of the vets and the exceptional way they treated their animals like children. The way they made it their business to save their lives. The way they care. Which to me is all that matters, they care.

Recommended, with caveats. Pay cash or check only!!!

by Anonymous

I took my cat in for her vaccines to another vet, and she had a severe allergic reaction. I took her to Montrose and they fixed her up, to the tune of $267. However, they accidentally charged me $267 twice. My bank replaced the money in my account within a week, so I didn't have a serious problem personally, but the bank apparently had to fight the clinic for several weeks before they refunded the money. Not only did they never apologize for making such a stupid mistake, they spent much of those weeks arguing that the charges were right and that I was "mistaken." They didn't even ACKNOWLEDGE their mistake until the bank began making noises about litigation...

However, the vet was very friendly (not nexessarily to me, but to the cat - which is all that counts). I just wouldn't trust the airhead clinic staff behind the counter with my credit card ever again.

Best Vet Care Around

by Angela H.

I have experienced several terrible veterinarians in Houston, and MVC is NOT one of them! Finally I have found the best care for my animals and I am excited to share my discovery!! This clinic is clean, efficient and fun to be in. Everyone is friendly, professional and efficient. The docs there really know their stuff and go out of their way to do a good job. They finally solved a long-standing issue with my older cat and she is doing better than ever. Thank you, Montrose Vet Clinic!! Keep up the incredible work you do.

PROS: Affordable & efficient; caring and knowledgeable docs.

Worst vet experience ever

by Keith H.

I took my new puppy here because it was close to my home. I'll never go back. They were supposed to put black SoftPaws on my dog for $23. I had to leave my dog there while they put the SoftPaws on her. Instead of calling me to tell me they were out of black, they took the liberty to substitute bright purple ones. My dog (a pointer) looks ridiculous! Then they charged me an extra $16.50 for installation - something they conveniently forgot to tell me when they quoted the $23. When I told them how unhappy I was with the unauthorized color switch, they apologised but offered no resolution. Although they did acknowledge how stupid they looked on her. Then they pulled the typical scare tactic when I told them I wanted to get my heartworm med from PetMeds.com. Finally they gave my dog two other vaccines but forgot to record it in her chart. When I went back and asked them about it, it took them almost half an hour to figure out what they had done! I can't believe this place is still in business.

PROS: Not a single one!
CONS: See review.

Ultimate caring and professionalism

by Sherry H.

My Miss Meister has been a patient at Montrose Veterinary since 2004, and I am so, so pleased. They understand how much you care about your pet/friend/family member and they take every care and caution to treat your pet and maintain his/her health. I've called on the same day with a concern or what I perceive to be an emergency, and they've always made time for me. I love all of the vets and vet assistants there and I highly recommend them to anyone who loves their pet as much as I do. They don't price gouge, either. I would spend a whole lot to have my Miss Meister taken care of, but no need to worry... they are reasonable. I can't imagine any other vet caring for Miss Meister.

PROS: Genuine care, concern... take time, don't rush you in and out

worth the drive

by Jessica G. | insider Insider | Rank: 13,507

i went here after my great dane was neutered and had complications. The vet was very informative and seemed like he really enjoyed doing what he does, which always makes a big differance. They were pretty cheap. They are a very popular vet so I had a little bit of a wait but it was worth it.

Popular Vet in the Montrose

by Kelly D. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,048

This is probably the most popular vet in the Montrose area. They've been around for years and have a loyal following. The office is very nice and clean, spacious enough for pets to keep their distance from one another in case of any crankiness. The doctors are nice and very knowledgeable. Only problem I've had is that since they are popular and therefore busy, it can sometimes be difficult to get information or make quick appointments - for example, if something is wrong and you are not sure if it is serious enough for an office visit, you may wait a good chunk of the day just to get a call back.

Absolutely Amazing

by vancov09

I am a first time pet owner and still learning the swing of things. I havea 3 month old Maltese and she went to Montrose for her first visit. I met with the vet and she made me feel very comfortable and not stupid since this was my first pet. She was very thorough in her explanation of everything.

Two weeks later.....

My baby woke up with her left eye closed shut, well with me being a 1st timer I freaked out! I called Montrose and they fit me right in, as soon as we arrived we were seen. Again, the vet took the time to fully check her out and made me feel so much better about the situation. It turned out to be a scratched eye ball and pink eye!

I feel like I can call them any time for any questions no matter how big or small and that means the WORLD to me. Definitely see them!

Pros: Staff is super friendly and knowledgable, clean and fast!

Cons: Little pricey (but worth every penny)

Long Time Fan

by csberger

Have used this vet for the past 7 years-through 9 cats and 2 dogs (two of whom I adopted from the clinic), they've seen it all and never have I received anything but the best treatment. Their parking lot IS bad and while not overtly expensive, they're definitely not the cheapest in town either, but for the best veterinarians and staff in Houston, this is a bargain for animal lovers. Even if it's a minor emergency, you can drop your cat/dog off on the way in and they'll see it during the day (and call you around 1), and if you're adopting a stray, the first examination is free. First rate all the way.

Pros: Everything

Cons: Parking

I will never use another vet EVER

by TeacherLady

Almost a year ago I lost my cat Molly. Her illness was very mysterious and required 2 surgeries. Dr. Kazmerick worked her butt off to try to figure out what was wrong with Molly. She didn't even charge me for the second surgery when the 1st one didn't provide the answers we'd hoped for. She kept in constant communication with me and even made it possible for me to come in and out to visit Molly while she was still in her care...even on Sunday when the clinic is closed.

Dr. Kazmerick not only did everything she could to save Molly she was also so compassionate and caring to me. That meant so much. Molly was my best friend and she got that. When putting Molly to sleep became inevitable she even came in on her day off to be there for me. She CRIED, yes CRIED herself, because she was so upset that she couldn't save Molly.

A few weeks after Molly died Dr. Kazmerick made a ceramic momento of Molly's paw, painted it, and sent it to me with a sweet note that I still have. I cannot say enough good things about this kind woman or the clinic. God bless people like Dr. Kazmerick who do a job that I could never do and help people like me who love their pets.

As long as I live in the Houston area I will always bring my pets to Montrose Vet Clinic. I trust these people completely.

Pros: Compassion, Knowledge

Cons: Parking

These Doctor's are absolutely the BEST!

by cntrychick7

Every time I walk into the Clinic, the Receptionists greet me and my little ones with a warm smile :-) I never have to wait more than 5-10 minutes (significantly better than other Vets I've been to) and every Doctor here is knowledgeable and great at what they do! I have 2 dogs and 3 cats, and they all love the Doctors! When you take your animal to the Vet and they don't shake, you know you have got a Winner! Some may complain the prices are too high, but they are quite reasonable, and the MOST important part is that these Doctors are the BEST in town! Your animals will be taken care of every single time & with love! I would absolutely recommend this Clinic to everyone who LOVES their babies (aka- animals)! Especially Doctor McDaniel, she is just a natural with the little ones!!

Pros: Doctors are a "natural" and your animals will be treated like family!

Cons: NONE :0)

Worth it

by if1363

Dr. McDaniel and her staff have always provided quality service and care. When my vet retired and we did not have my pet's records they offered to find them for me by calling around to other vets. I received a call a short time after letting me know they were located. I feel i always come away well educated and informed and receive a follow up call for any procedures or conditions. I believe there is a level of competency which is hard to find and worth the cost.

Pros: Competency; kindness with pet; consultative

Cons: Parking lot

Short of AMAZING!

by jmss72

I am surprised to read some of the reviews listed. I just recently moved to the houston area and was referred to the Montrose Vet by several people at the local dog park. My experiance there was amazing!! Yes parking isnt the best but we are also in downtown, so expected. The Receptionist were so helpful and they even contacted my old veterinary clinic and had all the information of what my pet needed before I had gotten to my appt. I was blown away to see the amount of clients that were coming in and out, the phones ringing off the wall, and everyone of the staff members smiled and seemed absolutely in control of everything. I was immediately greeted as I walked in. Sitting in the lobby waiting to see the vet, this clinic has several awards posted in the lobby for being the BEST by readers of the local newspaper the Houston Press for several years now. When I got into my appointment, the nurse was soo informative and was nothing but loving to my Tucker, 5 yr old blk lab. I was so impressed by the nurse that I actually thought he was the doctor until he introduced himself. Then, Dr McDaniel came in! I she was sooo intellegent, by far the best vet that i have ever met! My experiance was by far amazing, the nurses, receptionist, it all.

Pros: Friendly/Loving, Well educated staff, Great service!!

Cons: Cant say I can think of any, parking???

Unfriendly Employees - Extremely Pricie.

by camelia123

I agree with the others one stars completely. The front desk and technicians are very unfriendly. I took my dog for the initial visit, which was OK. Obviously, nobody said any cool thing about him or offered him a cookie... he was nervous and they looked at him as if he was annoying them. Unbelievable! He had to be neutered and -my mistake- I didn't ask how much it was going to cost. They charged $490! In addition, when I went to pick him up after surgery, I had to ask tons of questions about how to care of him during post-surgery since nobody will tell any thing! It was just "pay and leave us alone!" I asked some of my colleagues for a new good vet that shows some care since I'm not planning taking him there again.

Pros: location

Cons: bad service - extremely expensive

I Agree With ALL the One Stars!!!

by drtalavera

We're use to being across the street from our vet,who loved our dog and would always run out to give him treats when we walked by.We were in shock our first experience, walked in the door and ten people were behind the desk, and nobody acknowledged us. Finally after getting some-ones attention we sat and filled out paper work, nobody paid any attention to our dog and i am sorry but he is the cutest thing, who wouldn't love him? We got the feeling nobody there liked animals it was very sad. We got him some shots and flea medicine, pretty pricey. When we got home they left a message saying they forgot to charge us for half his shots, and we can pay when we bring him back to have minor surgery. The next few days i got his paperwork in the mail, and not only did they have the wrong color of my dog,but the wrong breed.I work thirteen hour days and really don't have the time to call and tell someone how to do there job. Need-less to say i called and argued with the receptionist because she did not have my dogs breed in the computer system nor could she type it in. Why would we want our dog registered as the wrong breed, and are you kidding me, your a vet,you should have all breeds listed! Then we took him to get minor surgery and ,by this point my clients and i have discussed the bad service they also experienced. Anyhow they said to be at the vet no later than 7:30 am we arrived about 7:15 and the doors were locked, a vet tech walking a dog said you have to wait till 7:30 along with a group of people and there dogs piling up.I was sick to my stomach the entire day i had left my baby there. Went to pick him up anxiously waited for 20 minutes again being ignored. Paid another pricey bill picked up more flea medicine, only to see when i got home it had expired. Called the vet they said it doesn't expire, well don't print it on the box then .Would you just take a chance giving your child expired medicine? We will not go back ever and found a better vet ,trust the bad reviews.

Pros: um? can't think of any

Cons: Front desk, prices, unattentiive

Better Care Elsewhere (and it's cheaper, too!)

by Saabstress

I called with an emergency situation an hour before Montrose Vet Clinic closed for the day, but, even though I'd been a long-term client with a number of critters and I'd spent thousands of dollars there, I was told they couldn't fit me in. Combined with the lousy front-desk employees, who spend more time chatting amongst themselves than helping clients, it was an easy call to switch vets. I'm now at The Heights which is significantly cheaper (more than $20 per visit) and more helpful and caring. The Heights staff routinely calls to check up on my critters after they've been in for a visit.

Pros: Nothing

Cons: Bad staff, not caring

Is on the Decline

by gflier

Up until recently, I was very happy with this clinic, but there is one vet that seems less than helpful. I have encountered this on a few occasions & decided to find another vet. They are very good for spaying & neutering (& they'd better be, considering what I paid), but beyond that, I've been very disappointed. I end up wasting my time & money, then I have to do my own research in order to find better treatment options for my pets. For the complicated stuff, they mostly prescribe rimadyl & send you home.

Pros: spay/neuter procedures are good

Cons: price, not well-informed about treatment options for more complex ailments

Best Vet Clinic

by houstoncitygirl

It is no wonder that this clinic has been voted best vet clinic in Houston multiple times! The doctors are knowledgeable and kind. They take their time to explain in detail. I really like that they will refer to the specialists when needed. They are busy- but if you ask to talk to the doctor, they will find the time to see you. I have been taking my 2 dogs and 1 cat there for 7 years. They have seen us through multiple emergencies and illnesses. I have referred all my friends there, and will continue to. They are not cheap- but the level of care is worth it. These docs will do what it takes to keep them healthy. Oh, and I love that they are active in the community. I can't say enough wonderful things about this place!

Pros: knowlegeable, kind, clean

Cons: parking lot is small

Best Veterinary Clinic in Houston

by carole2382

It distresses me to hear anything but glowing recommendations about this clinic. These docs are the best I have ever encountered. They literally saved my dog's life, and treat most of my neighbor's animals. They are gracious, never too busy to explain the smallest detail to me, kind and compassionate. I read a complaint about a 30 minute wait! Good grief! Are you kidding? On a busy day with no appointment-big deal! Seriously, I would not take my pets anywhere else-EVER. I love these people. The clinic is large, clean, friendly, and has the most up to date equipment. I care about my babies, and they deserve the best! Thanks Montrose Vet Clinic!!!

Pros: Extremely competent, warm, friendly, compassionate.

Cons: Zip!

Worst Experience Ever

by pancheka

I went to this clinic one time and will never go back. First of all, they kept me and my very nervous dog waiting for 30 minutes in the waiting roon. Then my dog's entire exam and treatment was performed in the back room. I like very much to be a part of my dog's plan of care, however, at this clinic I felt pushed to the side. The Vet I saw had the worst bed side manner I have ever encountered. My husband and I both thought that she didn't even like animals by the way she was acting. If you love your pet this is not the place for you!!!

Pros: nothing

Pros: FRIENDLY staff, intelligent and skilled vets

Cons: parking
