I've been taking my pets to Dr. McCleery for 14 years. I have one dog in particular who is neurotic and nervous and doesn't particularly like anyone but our family members. But she does well at Dr. McCleery's clinic. I've boarded her there, had her medical issues treated there, had her groomed there, and she's always gotten tender, loving care. My other dog, whose temperament is happy to begin with, loves the people there. I first started going to Dr. McCleery because he was near my home. When I moved, I tried various vets nearer my new home, but came back to Dr. McCleery for the quality of care and the affordability of his services. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. I don't expect them to remember me or my dogs on sight... fortunately, we are not frequent visitors:) I don't expect a doctor to placate me... I expect a doctor to give me real, usable information and straight talk about treatment options. That's what I've always gotten from Dr. McCleery regarding my pets.

I have been using Dr. McCleery's veterinarian services since I moved to Dallas twenty years ago and could not be more pleased or feel more fortunate to have found him. I drive from the Park Cities to Garland due to his quality of care, with no regret for the drive. The care is realistic in that Dr. McCleery knows what he is doing and only recommends what is necessary and prudent, and he never takes advantage of a loving pet owner's emotions and legitimate concern for their pet by imposing or suggesting unnecessary tests and charges. The fees are fair and he has never been off on a diagnosis or recommendation in the twenty years my pets have seen him.

When a specialist is necessary, Dr. McCleery will always send you to leaders in their field and will also provide extraordinary measures on his own. In fact, when my dog suddenly lost her hearing and the specialist could not determine the cause, Dr. McCleery convinced the only lab in the country that did a specific blood test associated with hearing, and only for humans, to test my dog's blood. In 1997, when my devoted dog companion from my university days was euthanized at the age of fourteen, there were tears in Dr. McCleery's eyes. He had lovingly cared for her through five years of cancer. In 2007, when my home was burglarized and my dog was unknowingly harmed and later went into shock, I took her to a vet closer to my home due to it being an emergency. Dr. McCleery stayed on the phone for six hours trying to assist the emergency vet who had been unable to determine what was wrong, all while occasionally checking on me. This highly regarded and deservingly well paid emergency vet could not believe what Dr. McCleery had done and agreed that I had found a jewel. Add to this, Dr. McCleery did not charge a penny for those six hours on the phone.

Obviously, I highly recommend Dr. McCleery. As for the few reviews where the writers did not feel the love, well, none of us are a perfect match with all in the world. If you prefer the frills, an elegant office, excessive testing or your hand held while your pet's teeth are cleaned, then, with all due respect, this is not the place for you and you will be happier elsewhere. However, if you want quality care and knowledge you can trust, reasonable fees and someone who will care for your pet more than anyone, especially when it really matters, you won't find a better choice than Dr. McCleery.

I Love this vet! We had to take our puppy to the vet because she was vomiting and could barely stand up. It was on a saturday and he was going out of town. He gave her some medicine to give her some nutrition and ran some tests and called and checked on her while he was out of town several times! I was very impressed! He truly cares about the animals and they are VERY reasonably priced! I will never go anywhere else!

Dr. McCleery is an older gentleman who is also a rancher. He is very knowledgeable about animals and veterinary medicine. He is good with my dogs (I've been using him for about 8 years now). The clinic may be a little busy and not so great with customer service sometimes (everyone is always VERY nice, they just get kind of busy sometimes and you may have to wait a bit). Ultimately they all care tremendously about animals, they are knowledgeable and provide excellent care for the animals, and they are fairly priced. I would definitely recommend them. Dr. McCleery's demeanor is matter of fact and to the point. Don't take it personally, and he will provide you with high quality veterinary care at a very reasonable price.

I took my baby doberman over to have his ears cropped and Dr McCleery did a great job. He told me how care for him while he recovered and I did what he said and his ears turned out very good. Overall the Dr and staff was friendly and loving towards Jake. The price was reasonable as well. It's a shame they are too far from where I live, otherwise they would be my primary vet.

I recently took a stray dog in to Dr McCleery because she got a little sluggish a few days after I took her in. He examined her and ran some tests. The tests came back positive for Parvo. I have seen first hand what this disease can do and it is not pretty. He put her on treatment and told me she had a 50/50 chance of survival. I am happy to report, she pulled through and is slated to get her shots this week. He has also been taking care of our other two dogs for years and all though he can be gruff at times with us, he has never been anything but attentive to our pets, I like the fact that his friendly and courteous staff always call after any treatment to our pets to check on them and to see if they need any follow ups. If you are looking for someone to comfort YOU, he is not the Dr for you, if you ARE looking for someone to take good care of your pet, then he is the Dr for your pets needs.

I have always had good care for my animals with Dr. McCleery. He is caring and considerate of the animals, if not particularly of the humans. I don't care if his manner is brusque and short, as long as he treats my animals with respect and care, that is what matters. His office staff sometimes frustrate me to the point of pulling my hair, but I don't have to live with them, so it is okay. His fees are competitive and I can usually get my animals in on the same day as my call.
If you are looking for "Dr. Bedside Manners" go elsewhere. If you are looking for good, old fashioned animal care, then this is the place.

If you are expecting to be mollycoddled, then go to a therapist. Yes, visits are short, but that is a good thing- most animals don't like going to the vet, and the shorter the visit, the better. Dr. McCleery and his staff get the job done quickly, with little stress, are knowledgable, and have very reasonable prices. I won't take my cats anywhere else.

I would NEVER go back to Dr. McCleery. He has the worst bedside manner of any vet I have ever encountered and yes, it seems that any question you ask of him it is an inconvenience for him to respond. Sad thing is he has been in Garland for eons and many people like him....haven't figured out why. He is rude and just seems to want to get you and your beloved pet OUT so he can move on to the next paying customer. Worst vet I have ever had the "displeasure" of working with..ugh. If you need a good vet, don't go here.

I found the vet to be difficult to understand and sometimes rude and condensending. He has insulted me over the telephone when I called this office concerned because my sick dog that he was treating was becoming ill again.
I also find his diagnosis to be vauge and leave there thinking ... what did he just say? He probably needs to retire from his practice and go ride his horses instead.
I don't think he or his staff will care in the least little bit that my 2 dogs and my daughters dog and cat will never return to the office of Dr McCleery!

I'm just not satisfied with the service I was given. I never felt like I was at home. The receptionist never remembered me each time I came, and always had to pull my chart before she could say, "Oh yeah, I remember you." Always asking, "And who are you? What's your pets name?," when I had brought my cat in a few days earlier. I want to be able to feel at home, even if I'm not remembered. I'm a dental assistant, and I see tons of patients. Even though I may not remember everyone, I still try my hardest to make them feel comfortable and find ways to remember each and every one. I have no conflict with the doctor. Only his staff. I wish I would of had a better experience. No matter where you go in the medical field, whether vet, dentist, or doctor, the staff is who you see the most, and they are responsible for making you feel comfortable and at home.

My husband and I have taken our animals to Dr. McCleery for many years and originally chose the clinic because it was near our home. We have always received quality care from him and his staff. Although we now live about 30 minutes away and there are many other animal hospitals nearby, we continue to use him and his clinic for our pets. Dr. McCleery is kind, compassionate, and he always demonstrates sound judgement. His prices are affordable and he suggests only what is necessary to keep you pet healthy. He gains your pet's trust and he certainly has ours.

My son and I just took our 2 dogs to the Animal Hospital of Garland this morning and I was impressed from the minute I stepped in the door. The staff came up and greeted our dogs and took the time to play with them and show them lots of affection. By the time they got into the exam room both dogs were comfortable and willing to let their new friends take their vitals. They also gave my son a coloring book, crayons and a magnet to keep him occupied because he was getting restless.

The vet was very knowledgeable and friendly, with a sense of humor. After he did the check up he answered all my questions thoroughly and made some excellent suggestions about training and weight loss for the dogs.

We just moved to Garland and I have already found our new vet with Dr. McCleery and the rest of the staff. We will definately be going back there for all of our pets' needs. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that they also do grooming and boarding. I highly recommend this vet.

I just rescues an adult dog and a kitten. My boss recommended that I go to The Animal Hospital of Garland, as he and other family members have been long-time members. Upon arrival the staff was very warm and friendly. After an extremly short wait, I was in to see the Doctor, Howard McCleery. Although, my animals were only there for well-pet exams, the doctor took the time to answer all my questions as a new pet owner which I thought was really groovy. I knew I had found a real cool place to take my pets from now on.

Recently I had to take me dog to the Animal Hospital of Garland because my regular vet was out of town and my dog was very sick. It looked like an older practice but it by far exceeded my expectations. The doctor there helped me figure out a treatment for my yorkie that was cost efficient and the staff there was even caring enough to call me at home a couple of times to check up on my pet and that really impressed me. My dog was feeling much better in just a matter of days and now I have made Animal Hospital of Garland my permanant vet! The doctor is very down to earth and reasonable and the staff are warm and friendly. I am so glad I found them!

By far the most skilled veterinarian I have come to know. Dr. McCleery reminds me of the Dog Whisperer because he seems to have a special, easy way with animals that allows him to quickly zero in on the problem and find the best possible remedy. You can tell that he has a genuine care and concern for the well being of animals. I highly recommend this facility.

I was referred to the clinic when I got a puppy. The doctor can be moody-only sometimes-but the care is excellent. The facility is clean and the front desk receptionists are very friendly. I had to bring my chow in for surgery once. It was not expensive and she recovered quickly. My two dogs get good care here when they need it.

Dr. McCreary has taken care of our pets for the past 25 years. My experience is the same as the others who gave him good reviews -- hard-working, dedicated, and kind. He's pulled several of my cats through medical crises (and brought one back quite literally from death's door.) He's busy, but always has time to answer my questions.

We do board our cats with them (since we're longtime clients) when we go out of town. His staff certainly knows how to handle my headstrong 20 lb Siamese!

I had never been here before, vet hardly spoke at all. Only in for shots and heartguard. While waiting for the vet to return to the exam room, some kid comes in and takes my dog to a back room. I asked another employee where he was taking her.. she said to get her shots and blood drawn.... I thought to myself.... hmmm why are they taking her to another room without me... In the past the vets that I have used have always done everything in the exam room. Well I asked to go back with my other dog to the "other room" I got nothing but sarcastic remarks from the vet. He was very rude. I will never take my animals back to him again. I had been warned about the attitudes at this facility before going... but thought I would give him a try since he was close to where I live. I guess I will learn from my mistakes!

I have my dog checked up here yearly and it is a good experience. The attendants are nice people who know pets and there is very little wait, so my dog gets less chances to start fights with other pets. The whole checkup process is quick and painless and the prices are reasonable considering the care. Overall, this is a good place to bring your pet.

The Animal Hospital of Garland is an excellent place to take pets . The vets here at great, and they seem to genuinly care for the pets. The wait time is less than 10 minutes, and the prices are very reasonable.
