This is about the best you can get when it comes to burritos. There are things you have to consider when creating your burrito at these types of places. LESS IS MORE. I also used to work here. A lot of people mess up their burrito by

I have been there twice. Both times because I was dragged by a friend.

The first time the place smelled so bad of rotten garbage we had to move twice just to fine a spot both inside or outside that we could stomach eating at the same

Love it! It gets a little bust around lunchtime, but it's worth the wait. The BBQ sauce is amazing and the queso is worth the upgrade.

Freebirds would make a KILLING if it had locations near UH or Rice.

I frequent this and the I-10/Taylor location, and almost always get three crispy corn tacos with only four ingredients each: steak, habaero sauce, jalapeos, and guacamole. Been there enough so that the staff already knows what to do when I walk up. LOL

At the time of this writing, those tacos only run me $4.77, plus $1.50 for a drink. Compare that to Chipotle for the same tacos, where it's pushing $20 for food and drinks for two people, and the meat isn't as well-seasoned.

I've also had their steak salads, steak bird bowls, and steak burritos, and enjoyed them all thoroughly. You might say I like steak, and Freebirds doesn't disappoint. Think I'll go get some now!

This review is going to start out crappy, but end delicious. Bear with me now...

I've been a longtime Freebirds junkie (at several locations in Tejas), but will most likely never return to the Houston Freebirds Shepherd location due to a specific employee.

Her name is Ashley (last name, no clue) and she has been repeatedly brash and inappropriate in hitting on my guy when we've been there. Like, to the extent where we simply do not eat there anymore. It's uncomfortable and just disgusting (and kind of sad?? hello?? you're at work?? we're here to eat burritos?? he's taken??).

A crappy way to begin a review for a place I love to eat at, but seriously -- ladies, I would advise you and your man just avoiding this girl. She's poison and obviously a little off. Hopefully she'll be headed out soon and the Freebirds world will be well again. Icky.

Now for positive things - I love the burritos at Freebirds. LOVE LOVE LOVE. Everything is incredibly fresh, their choice of tortillas is always nice and their salsa/hot sauce is always just right.

The price is just so right (lunch usually under $8 for me) and their burrito sizes are great and scale to what meals I accidentally skipped earlier in the day ( life is busy, it happens). My daughter loves their kiddo meals and even with her unholy appetite walks away satisfied.

Beyond weird employee situations, this is/was one of the most welcome texmex comfort food spots in Houston. The fact that it is next door to Amy's Ice Cream just makes it that much more perfect :)

Yes you can! I love this place... rivals Chipotle. The burritos are bigger than that of Chipotle and you can actually get chips and queso here which compliments you burritos far more than the guac at Chipotle. Bring an appetite!

when i am hung over and need a burrito i go to freebirds. Then I feel like a grizley bear for a couple of hours, but mmmmmm really good burritos.
Also I call in burritos and pick them up. That kicks but when there is a huge line and you can walk around it.

My husband and I LOVE this place! He loves the big burritos, and I can tear up some of their yummy quesadillas. In college, we would drive an hour away just to get some Freebirds! We were ecstatic when they built a Freebirds in Houston.

Overall, Freebirds isn't too bad. They're higher priced than their rival, Chipotle, which is a con, but they DO have free flowing cilantro, which is always a plus for me. They also charge for sour cream, which is kind of ridiculous. Their rice is a little bland, but, like I said, it's not bad. It's about a 9.50+ meal for a burrito of comparable size (like from Chipotle) and a soda. The major plus? Amy's Ice Cream is right next door. Give it a shot. My friends who prefer Freebirds say it's the rice. I don't see it, but maybe you will.

This is hands down the best place in Houston for a made to order burrito. Ingredients are always fresh and way more variety than other burrito places. Try some roasted garlic and the BBQ sauce on your burrito - it's really good!

My husband and I have heard people talk about Freebirds, but we had never tried it. Finally, we gave into our gut instinct and gave this place a try. We were amazed! We were pleasantly greeted, and we told them it was our first time dining there. They were so warm and friendly, and went down through the whole ordering process. Everything was a breeze, and all the ingredients looked so fresh. The taste? My goodness! It was amazing. Everything you wanted...was there. Not only was it fresh, but it was spread evently throughout, and you just didn't taste a glob of an ingredient. The music was awesome. They were playing songs from the 90's, and the decor was just so fun, and inviting. People kept coming in, and ordering so you know it's good when it's constantly busy. We left stuffed, and happy, and agreed that we'd be back for sure :)

Freebirds definitely has the world's best burritos, bar none. Get anything on the menu, you won't be disappointed. We originally ate at the location in College Station and my son begs us to take him downtown to eat there, he will unbelievably eat the entire thing--they are MASSIVE burritos. Build more locations, we will come!

Freebirds is AMAZING!!! What's even better is that within the last year another Freebird's opened in the Houston area (with a Jamba Juice next door) - Bay Area Blvd, not far from I45 (opposite side of freeway from mall) across from Taco Cabana. I had my first Freebird a year ago and I have been hooked ever since. Great for college students because you can get a Monster and eat off it for days. Plus you can get Stamps to get Stuff(ed) with every burrito purchase (you get Freebird T's, hats or a free burrito).

Freebirds is one of my favorites places to eat in the world! The food is amazing and you don't go home hungry that's for sure. Anyone who hasn't tried it should, because you don't know what you are missing. My boyfriend and I go there when ever we are in downtown because we love the place so much. It's kind of like fast food but it's almost a restraunt, the environment is a lot of fun. It can get crowded but it's worth it just for the food.

Right by the office. We actually go in to play "count the peircings on the server". Very interesting staff but they are always super nice and quick!!! Food is good for a quick lunch, not worth a dinner trip unless your still in college or pregant having a craving. Healthy options with the Wheat Tortilla and chicken breast.

I hope this place catches on and they create more Freebirds locations. The first time I went was in College Station and I was thrilled when they opened in Houston. One Super Monster burrito can last 3 meals! The best part is YOU choose what goes in your burrito. The service is first class.
The ingrediants are always fresh and there are many to choose from. Freebirds never disappoints! Call ahead during lunch hour. Truly the best burrito in the world.

This place started in College Station as you may know, but dont let that scare you away. Youll miss out on really cool burritos. Mine was full of beef, cheese, habenero sauce, cheese, rice....and probably more too. Upon entering, i rapidly panned the room for aggies. To my good fortune, i did not see any that night. Cool. Anyways, try this place out, youll like it, i know you will.

Save the bird! Eat a Monster!

Those two phrases saved what is not a North Side legend. Initial confusion about whether Freebirds served free-range chicken combined with the distinctly non-country atmosphere led the Bird to a slow start. Now, after multiple expansions, it has reached Houston with all of the flavor and fire (Long Live Death Sauce) that have made it a mainstay of the Aggie diet. This is low-cost, high volume taste explosion sure to satisfy.

So Save the Bird. Eat a Monster.

Smiling faces, friendly service, I love Aggieland in Houston... This is not just a place for Aggies, but for everyone that loves burritos, taco salads, or even quesadillas. Veggie or meat filled works well here. Freebirds burritos are the best I've ever had.

Pros: low cost, lots of food

Cons: busy

As an Ag who frequented the original in College Station and tried the imitators in Houston, I'm glad they finally opened up down here. This is the original! Chicken with BBQ sauce, I know it sounds crazy on a burrito, but try one and you'll understand! For some reason the original location still tastes the best, but it beats the hour plus drive. How far will and Ag go to get a Freebird? I personally flew burritos half way across the country to bring some C.S. goodness to homesick Ags.

The burritos are large and delicious. A great place to go when you're hungry.

Honestly, anyone that does not like Freebirds wouldn't know good food if it hit them in the face. It's full of flavor, there are many selections, and the store's clean. Granted, Mission is also good. But to say Freebirds is bad is just plain silly! The food is spectacular. You can have a different meal everytime you go in. The are fast & friendly. I will say that I don't like the design of the Houston location as much as I like the College Station locations. But I'm there for the food, not the design. If you know good food when you taste it, this is the place for you. If you're picky and eat like a girl, this isn't your place.
