The Scene
Chandeliers, baby-pink walls, white linen tablecloths and waiters in black bow ties give this large restaurant an upscale feel. Wooden borders separate the rooms, which include an elaborate bar up a few steps from the main dining area. Indian tapestries and artifacts also decorate the space.

The Food
The naan, a leavened white bread baked in a tandoor oven, comes out steaming hot and fluffy. It cuts the heat of spicy dishes and is an excellent vehicle for sweet chutneys. Malai kofta kashmiri, cheese dumplings in an almond sauce, will appeal to vegetarians who like their Indian food bland. Chicken tikka masala mixes diced chicken with a creamy, spiced tomato sauce. Though the meat may be slightly undercooked, the sauce is yummy. To end the meal, diners should opt for kheer badami: a lovely rice pudding with raisins and almonds.

The Inside Scoop

  1. What to Drink - The mango lassi drink, a mix of mango and yogurt, goes down smooth and refreshing.
  2. Where to Sit - The tables near the bar area provide more intimacy than those in the larger dining room.
  3. Save Money - Go for the weekday lunch buffet and pay only $8.95 for a wide variety of dishes. It's $10.95 on weekends.
  4. When to Go - Though India Palace focuses on northern cuisine, some southern dishes are available at weekend brunches.

Expensive

by Margaret S.

I have eaten in many Indian restaurants in the DFW area. India Palace is one of the most expensive. Lovely white linen table service with plenty staff present just don't expect a soda refill any time soon. The food has been "Americanized" somewhat with the heat level tamed down so ask for your dish to be made with your spice level. The portions are adequate, no leftovers here. A great place to visit if you want a new dining experience just bring your wallet.

India Palace - take out heaven!

by Rachel H. | insider Insider | Rank: 18,257

Love this restaurant for its atmosphere, the friendliness of the staff and food alike but the take out option is fantastic too! We call ahead and it is efficient service, ready when we get there to pick up and delicious. it is not cheap but its worth the money for the taste. Saag Paneer is a personal favorite and all the curries are good. The weekday buffet is excellent too - pleanty of choice and again its lunchtime dining at its best for atmosphere and elegance.

You'll think you're in India....

by Lindy R. | insider Insider | Rank: 18,474

The curry and spices waft through the air as you are being seated. The buffet is a wonderful way to experience a variety of the Indian cuisine at a nominal price. Service is always gracious, the atmosphere is very relaxing and comfortable and the table cloths and napkins are high quality so don't arrive in your work clothes. It's not formal, but it's very nice! It's not all vegetarian either but there's no beef! I can't begin to describe the foods that I've eaten there because there's no American food to compare with it but I'd be very sad if I couldn't make my monthly visit to experience the amazing food at India Palace. I plan it and drive a long distance to get there but it's always worth it. Try some of everything and see how you like it. You can go back for more if you're still hungry.

India Palace - Best in the World

by Libby G.

I have been going to India Palace since 1985. I have lived and traveled all over the world, and have tried many, many Indian restaurants. I have found them all to be lacking although there is some good London fare, but not at India Palace. It is, in my opinion, the Very BEST.The curries are superb. My family prefers the Chicken Shahi Korma (chicken with a yogurt or cream-based curry with added fruit). We also enjoy Matter Paneer (Feta Cheese and Peas in a tomato-based sauce) and Chicken Saagwala (Chicken and Spinach-based dish). You may order your choice of "Hot" - either mild, medium, or spicy. We like to order several dishes and share them.Let me say that my children (and some adults, I know) WILL eat peas and spinach ONLY here. With a smooth texture and milder flavor, the spinach does not have the strong, bitter taste we associate with spinach. It is especially good as a medium to spicy hot dish, and we like to also have the side of marinated (orange) onions to eat with them. Request them. My children will also eat these onions and my children dislike onions intensely. We enjoy the Vegetable Samosa Appetizers with Tamarind Sauce (a tart fruit sauce- Umm!!). We also enjoy Vegetable Pakora (breaded and fried vegetables). There is a mint sauce for those who prefer it to the Tamarind, and also an extremely hot sauce for those who like their palates burned off (all on the side - in their own bowls). My youngest child also enjoys the child's plate of Chicken Tikka with smiley-faced French Fries. The "Shirley Temple's" are the best anywhere and even my 24-year-old still enjoys ordering them. The desserts are as varied as they are tasty. I especially enjoy Gulab Jaman (honeyballs), but the Rice Pudding is distinctive, flavorful, and unlike any you have ever had. My youngest loves the Chocolate Cake. Although the bar is a bit on the small side, the Martini's are superb. They also have a good wine list. While we prefer dinner, they do have a very nice (and reasonable lunch buffet). The atmosphere is lovely and one of the owners, Pardeep Sharma, pays attention to detail. The waitstaff, especially Abdul and Raj, (and Nick when he is there), are superb. It is a wonderful place for romantic dinners, yet well-mannered children are also welcomed. Large enough, yet intimate enough, it makes for a fine atmosphere. India Palace is one of the best dining experiences in Dallas. Bon Appetit!!!

Whats so great?

by Culturalexplorer

They say this place is sophisticated and classy. Yeah right. I was thinking about taking my date there tonight but I remember having tasted the food before and it was just average. Nothing great to excite me. Plus, the atmosphere really isn't one for a date. Overall, I was not impressed at all by this restaurant and after having gone to other indian places in dallas. STRONGLY suggest now that you go somewhere else.

Don't hold this place to high standards then you'll like it.

Pros: lots of parking, good location

Cons: not worth it, food kinda sucked, not good for a date.

Indian Food - For non-indian taste buds

by akshay

I would tend to agree with a few others who have made this point before - the food definitely is too bland for anyone who still maintains Indian taste buds.I would like to say that while the quality of food is pretty good compared to some of the other Indian restaurants, the food definitely lacks Indian flavor, which by the way doesn't start and end with the "spiciness" aspect alone.
Also, since this restaurant does attract a lot of non-Indians, I have often felt that the waiters don't necessarily spend a whole lot of time and attention on you if you are an Indian. Whether this is a direction given to them from the management or whether this is a result of Indians not tipping them as much because most Indians will tend to find this food "average", I cant say. All I know is that I tip well and still don't end up getting the kind of service that a "non-Indian" fellow sitting on the next table does.
As far as the rates go, this place definitely charges a premium for their reputation and location. The fact that they don't let you swap rice with naan is obnoxious, given the stature this place claims to have.
Overall, I still feel that their buffet gives you a lot of variety and is worth a visit.

Pros: Quality of food is good, good location and ambience

Cons: Poor Service, Westernised Indian food

price has gone up ... pretty good Indian food

by teknodogg

first read review online saying weekday lunch for 7.95 then citysearch says it's 8.95 and after lunch I found out it's now 9.95/person for lunch buffet

upon entering...we were greeted by a cute hostess but sadly she sat us down at the 1st table which was next to the door =/ I usually prefer to sit in the middle of the action but whatever it gave us a good exercise between plates, the server was nice but didn't come back to check on us and gave us water without any ice (again not a big deal)

onto the buffet table...they had the yellow safran rice, 1 beef dish I forgot the name, chicken tandor and chicken masala, some fried brockley(kind of weird), chick peas, some cheese/spanich dish, and okra with onion dish and some mixed meat/veget dumpling meatball looking thing with cream sauce on top and your fruits and desserts and tomato soup w/ coconut flacks

over all it was a good experience, the place was bigger than what I pictured, pretty cool deco, food was pretty good too but I wish the price was lower and maybe add a curry dish or 2 into the mix.....it's called indian palace after all

Pros: big spacious dining room, good quality of food not cold or burnt, nice deco.

Cons: price, hard to find parking, lacks curry dishes

Lunch buffet average

by ILuvFood82

The lunch buffet is just average and the choices they have are at times very few. I have had other Indian Buffets that were far better than India Palace. I still don't understand what everyone is raving about. There are plenty of other Indian restaurants in the Dallas that far exceed this place. Maybe try Chat caffe, Our Place Indian Cuisine or even Masala.

Pros: lunch buffet

Cons: food is not that great

NOT Good Indian Food! Rather generic and blah

by MommynDallas

Did someone really say this was the best in Dallas? This was our first time trying India Palace after just moving to the Dallas area recently. I was really disappointed. The sauces were thin and lacking any depth of flavor. We had Chicken Tikka Masala = little more than chicken in tomato cream sauce. It was really quite bland and the sauce was so runny. The chicken was dried out too on both this dish and the other. We also ordered Chicken Vindaloo. While this was certainly hot enough to break a sweat, that was pretty much all it had to offer. Normally we love Indian for the complexity of the spices but this was just not to be found for us at India Palace.

The mint chutney was good, as was the Naan. I simply don't recommend this place.

The other reviews were misleading and worries me that this is all Dallas has to offer.

My View

by mobiledude

I had been to this restaurant for weekend buffet recently, but was disappointed by the food and contents. The buffet was very bad with just 1 chicken and 1 beef dish....chicken tandoor not coooked properly..overall not worth paying $11.85.
Moreover the restaurant was full of american customers..so food was NOT spicy, but very bland as americans like it.....if you need spicy good food this is not the restaurant to go.

Pros: None

Cons: , Not spicy, Very Expensive

Good food, nice ambience

by dma14

I've eaten here several times over the years and the food has always been very tasty. My husband especially likes the lamb. The service is good and the ambience is better than many Indian restaurants -- somewhat upscale and even romantic in the evenings. The only thing that makes India Palace my second-favorite Indian restaurant in Dallas is the high prices and small portions. For good food at lower prices, try the full dinner (thali) at Mayuri in Las Colinas.

Pros: Good food, atmosphere, service

Cons: High prices, small portions
