Reviews for Roula's Nail Spa

Ratings_icons Roula's Nail Spa is great, but could juice up the customer service.

que s.

Roula's Nail Spa is quite nice! First off, this is not my usual spa, however I was on this side of town and walked in. I got a basic mani and pedi which was more expensive than my usual spa, however; the results were great. The customer service was okay, could have been better, but I would certainly recommend this business to another fine young lady. Thanks

Ratings_icons Roula's Nail Spa is clean but their front desk staff are rude

vrm m.

Well-the place is the cleanest and most sanitary I have ever been to. However, I completely agree with other reader's comments about the arrogance of the front desk staff. In addition, the phone system is a pain. I continue to go due to the cleanliness and I just put up with the front desk staff.

Nowhere in Houston will you find such great service and cleanliness!!! They emphasize on sanitation and customer service. The price is well worth the piece of mind. Everyone was extremely friendly and thoughtful from the time I walked in the door and made sure that I was comfortable the entire time, I even got a complimentary cocktail ;). You must visit Roula's, or you do not know what you are missing.

I've never had a mani/pedi here (only because I go to a place a little less expensive in River Oaks), but I have been booking appointments at Roula's for about 2 years for brows and brazilians. Fari is GREAT at what she does. She is professional, sweet, and never rushes through her work. I highly recommend her!

As for the cons - the girls at the front desk are a little rude and sometimes clueless. Most I have seen are young - maybe that's why they act the way they do. Like they are high school-ers who feel cool bc they work the desk at a "spa". Anyway, I'm not there to see them, so I can tolerate it. I'll still award Roula's 5 stars. :)

Pros: clean, professional

Cons: girls at the front desk

Ratings_icons Why is the place rated so well?

JanetKaplan23

I can't understand what all the hype is about. I went there a few months ago with my friends for a few hours of relaxation. None of us were impressed. The girl working the counter was rude and the place was noisy. I got a french manicure and, honestly, they botched the work. I don't think a french manicure is very difficult. My friends and I found the place too expensive for what you get.

Cons: Terrible service - Not worth the price

Ratings_icons if you like being robbed and lied to, this is the place for you!!

midtowner145

My wife was supposed to have a manicure and pedicure. After she had a manicure, the lights went out. She never got the pedicure, so they rang her up for the manicure for $35. She tipped 20% ($7), bringing the total to $42. The next day, when we checked our account, we saw that they charged us $87.

After several calls and one visit over the period of almost a week to Roula's, somebody finally called and said they would offer us 15% of her next treatment. They said nothing about refunding our money for overcharging us.

Naturally, we were insulted by their idiotic offer, so we stated our case again. This time, after waiting over a week for a phone call that was guaranteed to be made but never cam, we called back. now they said they would refund the difference. As unprofessional and idiotic as they have behaved, we were prepared to take it and just to be done with this fraud committing and cowardly woman. After waiting a full week, we have yet to receive the refund we were promised. which doesn't really surprise us, considering the lack of attention, accountability, and service we've received up to this point.

So, if you feel like being robbed, lied to, disrespected, and avoided....this is the place for you!

Ratings_icons The Best Nail Salon in Houston - Hands Down

msveronica

I've been to several salons over the years and have been searching for the best mani/pedi & found it at Roula's. I've read over other reviews "from doctors" stating that Roula's promotion of their sterilization is overrated, etc. and I find those comments rather disturbing. I recently had an infection from a "nice salon" located in the Los Cuco's shopping centre on Memorial near Westcott and after that experience, no price is too much for sanitation and my health. Is paying $20 - $30 bucks over regular price not worth your health? Roula's is a mini-nail oasis with a professional and friendly staff who are not your average nail techs. You are greeted in a friendly open atmosphere and the nail techs, depending on what type of mani/pedi you select, take time & care to complete the service; you keep the polish you use for touch ups; no one other than the customers say a word while the service is being performed; every tool used is sanitized & disinfected. At other salons, have you ever noticed the familiar popsicle stick sitting on top of the wax machine? Or how about having a nail technician (while on her cell phone) bring over the hot parrafin wax dish for you to put your hands AND feet in; the same dish of wax that others used? Yes, that would be a violation of the TDLR - definitely not the case at Roula's. Taking that into consideration & after the horrible experiences I have had in the past, this is the best nail salon by far in Houston & they have a customer for life.

Pros: Professional; great service; CLEAN CLEAN

Ratings_icons Great pedicures, a little pricey, but well worth every penny

medstudent08

As a maid-of-honor, I booked pedicures at Roula's in March 2008 for a small bachelorette celebration (3 girls). None of us had ever been there before. The entire experience: foot soak, aromatherapy, iced tea, massage, etc. was exceptional. They had the 3 of us sitting together in a row so we could chat while getting our pedicures. Everything was immaculate; they even clean their instruments in a medical-grade autoclave (impressive to the 3 of us who are infection-wary physicians/surgeons). We got to choose our own shade of nail polish (I picked Sao Paulo, a beautiful dark color), and they sent us home with the rest of the bottle. The cost was $50 per person, not including tip. Before choosing Roula's, I called around town and found that the average price for a pedicure at a nice salon is about $30-40. Roula's is significantly more expensive, but for a special occasion and for the service you get, it's worth every penny. It's now been more than a month, and my pedicure is only just beginning to fade. I would recommend Roula's to anyone planning a girls' day/night out.

Pros: Professional, Relaxing, CLEAN

Cons: Expensive

Ratings_icons Nothing compares.

ams1234

I've never had a better manicure/pedicure experience than my experiences at Roula's- it's the most santiary, the most relaxing, and the most luxurious- and that's not just in Houston. I love that you get to keep the bottle of polish for touch-ups, that you can have a drink while you have your treatment- even the music is amusing and relaxing, without being intrusive. It's a bit pricey for regular visits, but I wouldn't call it over-priced, by any means. Just wonderful- a gift certificate here would make a wonderful gift.

Pros: Beverage service, dental grade sterilization

Cons: more expensive than your average mani/pedi

Ratings_icons Great Ambience & Service!

brit527

You'll often find Roula, the owner, working behind the counter of her nail spa. She's happy to spend time telling new customers about the services offered or the extensive measures taken to keep the salon instruments sanitized. After having a nice, relaxing manicure and a chat with Roula, I decided to make this my regular place. I really appreciate when service industry proprietors pay such close attention to detail. For instance, the salon is decorated very beautifully, there is always great music playing, and you get a commplementary drink menu as soon as you arrive. My favorite treatment is the spa manacure with the Ginger & White Tea sent - fabulous!!

Pros: Great Service and Ambience, Open Until 7PM on Weeknights

Cons: Popular place, need to call for an appointment!

Ratings_icons THE SAFEST MANI/PEDI, & THE BEST & OFFERS THE PEACE OF MIND

mwnmwn

FRANKLY SPEAKING, I FIND IT RISKY TO GO ANY WHERE ELSE FOR A MANI/PEDI. I NEVER THOUGHT OF THE HAZARDS THAT MAY OCCUR IN A NORMAL MANI/PEDI SALON, BUT AFTER KNOWING THE SERVICES RENDERED IN ROULA'S NAIL SPA, & THE SCIENCE BEHIND EVERY STEP FOLLOWED IN THE TREATMENT, I FEEL MUCH SAFER, BECAUSE THE PROCEDURES FOLLOWED PREVENT TRANSMISSION OF OR CONTAMINATION WITH THE MOST FEARFUL VIRUSES. I WILL NEVER HAVE A MANI/PEDI EXCEPT AT ROULA'S NAIL SPA. I WONDER HOW OTHER SALONS ARE ALLOWED TO OPERATE. THEY DON'T COMPARE. & IF YOU GO TO ROULA'S NAIL SPA, ASK FOR A WALKTHRU - YOU WILL THEN UNDERSTAND WHY I AM SAYING THIS.

From the moment I walked in I was greeted by a courteous staff who immediately made me feel comfortable and relaxed. I've visited many nail salons but this was by far the best experience. The salon is clean and luxurious and their work is impeccable. If you want a divine experience and a perfect manicure, you must visit Roula's!!!

Pros: clean, comfortable, great manicures, friendly

Ratings_icons both good and bad

I started going here after a friend recommended it, based on the cleanliness.....which is awesome, as they have this "sanitation station" and they give you your own nail file that was used on you to take home along with a mini bottle of the nail color used as well.....also roula, the owner, is very friendly and customer oriented.....however, the workers don't seem to be very professional for a higher end place.....as they continue to speak vietnamese amongst themselves and do a rush job with no attention to detail......also, on one particular occasion, one of them cut the skin off my toe to the point i was bleeding!! roula was very kind and didn't charge me for that particular pedicure, but that was besides the point!! and what bothered me more was that the lady who cut me, put the styptic on with the tip of the applicator right against the broken, bloody skin!!! that was a huge disappointment, considering sanitation is what they stress here......all things said, roula herself was absolutely wonderful and caring....she saw to it that the styptic bottle was thrown out......and she even went so far as to call me several times after the fact to follow-up on the cut i had which was greatly appreciated.....this place could work, but perhaps roula needs to screen her nail technicians a little more in depth for skill, quality, and professionalism.....i would still continue to go, so long as service improves...

Ratings_icons Where is the quality work?

sorgirl76

I tried this place because my regular tech moved away. I don't really care about pricing because it is the quality of work that matters. The place was clean, but the quality of work was horrible. The woman rushed through my pedicure and paid no attention to detail. She left me for 10 mins with mask on my legs and came back to briefly massage lotion on me. Not relaxng at all for a spa pedicure. Definitely will not come back.

Pros: clean

Cons: skills, poor polish selection

Ratings_icons Clean, professional and luxurious pampering

seamrippstress

I booked a mani/ pedicure here last week and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. When I pay more than the street corner nail "salon" I expect better service and treatment and that is exactly what I got. The staff was warm, professional extremely accomodating since I booked at the last minute. I was relaxed and made to feel like a queen for the day which was just what I needed. The spa is spotless and very sanitary and they even gave me free nail polish to go! I will certainly be back!

Pros: Soothing Atmosphere, superior service

Cons: Cost more than the street corner nail stop but well worth it!

I enjoyed every moment, from the second I walked in to the dreaded moment that I had to leave. "Pampered" doesn't begin to describe the way I felt. Great location, friendly staff, and peace of mind that everything is sanitized. I have tried several different services like, massage, facial and mani/pedi. The staff is experienced and the atmosphere is relaxing without being over the top. Products are great... and you get to take home a little bottle of nail polish every visit (perfect for touch ups on your mani/pedi)!

Pros: Sanitization process, staff, location, variety of services

Roula's Nail Spa has spoiled me for all other spas! It's hard to find a place with such a clean environment, filled with amazing scents (aromatherapy) and great service! I was even greeted by the owner when I arrived for my fabulous signature hand & foot treatment. Definitely get what you pay for...my personal favs are the warm milk and honey, rose petal, and gerranium sage & peppermint treatments! Relaxed in my massage chair with a cocktail and enjoyed the experience!

Pros: Unique "Menu of Experiences" to choose services from. Sterilization center - SAFE mani/pedis!

I called to make an appt for a pedicure and being a first time client, they asked for my credit card number. I think this is very rude....I haven't even made it in yet and they are already trying to take my money!! They had a small color selection....the actual pedicure was o.k. Yes, the place is clean but it did not have any warmth....I felt like just another number.

I am quite surprised to see any negative reviews at all. We had a birthday party for a friend at the nail spa and they were very nice to accommodate us on a Sunday, plus they allowed us to bring all of our own food as well as wine, etc. They also had a lovely spa menu with all type of delicious drinks and we were pleasantly surprised to discover that drinks are complimentary (even fun drinks like margaritas)!

The spa was very clean and Roula could not have been any more accommodating to our party. She even gave the birthday girl a nice parting gift. I will most certainly visit again and I would recommend this spa to all of my friends.

Pros: excellent staff, very clean, free rinks!!!

I have to say I was dissapointed with this place it ranks high in cleanliness but poor in workmanship. Workers here don't take enough pride in their work and services. I can get the same service from a $20 dollar nail shop. And don't get me started with the front desk because all I can say is Rude and unprofessional.

Ratings_icons The Insider Scoop

I've recently moved back to Houston to find that my favorite nail spa has had a facelift! The spa now has more pedicure stations, an expanded staff and they even expanded their menu of signature hand and foot treatments which if you don't know includes a massage, scrub and parafin wax that make your hands and feet super soft. I was also happy to find out that Roula has expanded her nail polish line, which is the BEST LITTLE SECRET IN TOWN!!!! It lasts longer than any other nail polish hands down (you also get to take it home with you for touch ups)! My manicure can go two weeks at times with the Roula polish. I tried the new color "Souk El Garb" which is a stunning blueish red that is to die for. If you go, check out their fabulous drink menu, which also got a facelit, and their new herbal neck wrap. I indulged in this while getting my white tea and ginger mani-pedi and it was so therapeutic. Since returning to Houston, I've researched other mani-pedi places and spas to see what else is out there in the three years I've been away and after being gone three years, Roula's Nail Spa is still the best in town.

Pros: Nail polish, Therapeutic, Consistency, Cleanliness, Service

Cons: None

way too expensive, too expensive for what it is. snobbish, prissy, hiding under the "clean" umbrella. clean is great of course, but what about reasonable pricing, good skills, outstanding service. You're just another expensive salon. It's where all the rich and preppy people meet just to be seen and to see whose there. I've had better for cheaper.

Finally, a spa whose main concern is cleanliness. I got tired of travelling with my own mani-pedi instruments. At Roula's, I have complete peace of mind that they are actually USING their sterilization equipment. Also, it is very refereshing to finally step into a nail spa where you are not being analyzed in a different language by the nail technicians as soon as you walk through the door. I know we have all experienced that rude scenario!

I had an incredible manicure/pedicure at Roula's. Their sterilization techniques for any reuseable tools are medical/dental grade. The decor is beautiful and new. The sink at the end of the corridor is a beautiful work of art. The chairs for the pedicures are the softest and most comfortable imaginable. I especially enjoy taking home the small bottle of matching nail polish which is used on your nails and then given to you to take home, hence, if it were dried out there is no way one could have gotten a manicure or pedicure in the first place. In addtion to the bottle of polish, you take home the emery board and buff that is used since those can't be sterilized. It was by far one of the most pleasant manicure/pedicures I have had, it reminded me of a trip to the Spa at the Oriental Hotel in Bangkok. Julie Soldano
