On April 28th, after having a new tire put on my car,Keith brought me the keys and warned me that my car was in gear because the emergency brake release button was stuck down inside the emergency brake arm. I had no idea what he was talking about since it was working fine when I got there. I drive a standard transmission car.
So I went out and looked and not only was the emergency brake release button lodged deep down inside the brake arm, the leather boot was pulled half way out of the console. I pulled the brake on, and had to put my finger down inside the arm to release the button which no longer works to release the brake. I had to manually lower the brake arm down flush with the console. I ripped my finger nail trying to get into the arm mechanism to push the button and my finger was bleeding. Basically, the brake is now broken.
I went back into the store, found Keith and took him outside to show him the damage. All he would say is that if they were responsible for the damage then they would pay for it. He kept saying this over and over again. So I left the store.
Today April 29th, I called the store and asked for the manager and Al said he is the manager. I told him what happened yesterday, he said to bring the car by today so that he could estimate the damages and was very supportive on what happened. I was impressed that Discount Tire would stand by their customers and do the right thing.
When I arrived there after work, I saw Al and he said to give him a few minutes. The next thing I know, here's Keith again from yesterday. I told him that I'm waiting to talk to Al, the manager. Keith said I am Al's boss. So its hard to know who is in charge at that store, impossible really. Keith continued the same chant over and over again, if we did the damage we would pay for it.
Saying that their staff is highly trained and they all know how to operate manual transmission cars.
Until I finally got it, he was actually saying that my emergency brake was broken when I got there. So basically, he was say that I'm lying about it, it was broken when I got there and I'm just trying to get them to pay for the repair.
It just took a while to sink in what he was trying to say. I work on the International Space Station project for Johnson Space Ctr., (11059 Space Ctr. Blvd.)but it took me two days to figure out that they are calling me a liar. A lot of people I work with know what happened to me at this Discount Tire store yesterday and know that I was going back there today to give them an second opportunity to make things right. So they will be interested in hearing the outcome tomarrow at work.
I've gone to this location for 3 years and am beside myself at what happened there this time. At least I gave them an opportunity to make things right but instead their calling me a liar. I pay my bills, but they broke my car and now refuse to fix it. So that's why I am writing this review. I'm driving to the mountains next week so was getting tires ready for that now I don't have the ability to set the emergency brake in the mountains..Thanks.
Pros: Cheap tires
Cons: Being called a liar
