ritter Fixer Pet Hospital has great vets and HORRIBLE

by L S.

I took my cat to critterfixer and was told she probably had feline lukemia so they ran $300 worth of tests and sent me home- finally they called and said nope no problem there- come back and we will check her again- took her back and she had almost endstage diabetes - another $200. fortunatley she is doing well now. Dr Rogers is a bit gruff but a good vet and Dr Penny is GREAT. HOWEVER the teenagers at the place havent got a clue.. Last time I was there checking my cats blood sugar level- just a few days ago- some real fat tech girl with a horrible attitude came up to me in the lobby and made me get on my hands and knees and drag my upset diabetic cat out of the pet taxi as she was asking me questions- I always previously went to a room and they weighed her and checked her temp. Please note I am 62 yrds old with bad knees but this stupid teenager made me get on the floor and drag her out of the cage. she ran to the back with her and came out and DEMANDED a deposit. I have never failed to pay my bill or pick up my cat or dogs from reatment at critterfixer. Dr penny is great and very kind and considerate. Dr Rogers needs to fire everyone of the teenagers at the front desk and in the back and hire some ADULTS with some snap and experience. I will most likely change vets when I need to take my diabetic cat back for a blood sugar check. I have 4 little dogs and my married daughter has 5 dogs that critterfixer takes care of and has had the same issues with the teenagers. we both agree we will most likely find another vets office with some mature educated Techs on staff. we have both spent tons of money with critterfixer in the last everal years taking care of our animals but cant any longer justify the rude, inexperienced, untrained teenagers that seem to "run" the place.

Critter Fixer Pet Hospital is AMAZING!

by Kim O.

This is a clinic run on the philosophy that your pets care is more important than the almighty dollar. A philosophy established by Dr. Rogers. I agree, he may not have the most outstanding bedside manner but he does have your animals best interest at heart. All of my dogs (currently 3) are rescues and he has helped me in numerous ways to make sure I was able to provide them with the care they needed. They do not perform unnecessary procedures like so many other vets to inflate costs and make more money. And when my newest foster recently swallowed a corn cob and needed surgery to remove it, I was faced with the horrifying prospect that I may have to put her down as I could not afford the surgery. They did everything they could to bring it into a range I could afford (including a bunch of x-rays and tests I was not charged for) and she is doing wonderfully today and gets her staples out this week. Keep in mind when you complain about the prices, this is a business, not a charity. Medications and things are expensive, and it is not the vets setting the majority of the price but the manufacturers.

Critter Fixer Pet Hospital is EXPENSIVE

by Ken L.

Not cheap, but they do process hundreds of pets rather quickly. I think most vets are overpriced. They really make a killing on heartworm preventatives.

Not impressed.

by Jean K.

I recently took my pet to Dr. Rogers--diagnosis: pancreatitis. I was charged $43 for the phone call he made to give me the lab results in addition to the $710 for 2 days of IV and the lab test. I never saw the vet again over those 2 days only the "technicians" translated...kids who give you conflicting information about your pet's care. When we went back for the initial IV, the technicians put the line in and told me to put her on the exam table and keep her calm for the next 4 hours. She was of course trying to jump off the table and pull the line out. I said, "You've got to be kidding. You expect me to stand here for 4 hours like this." The reply from the tech was, "It depends on your dog." I could go on with similar stories of our 2 day ordeal but I think you get the picture. Upon checking out, we were told to start rice and chicken 2 days later but you would think with a potential life treatening disease, we would have gotten specific information about what to do after starting that. Not so. Bottom line...I won't go back nor will I recommend Critter Fixer to anyone. My suggestion is to find a different vet!

Critter Fixer Pet Hospital is Great without Dr. Rogers

by Amber E.

I would only recommend this clinic if you ask to have your pet seen by any Vet but Dr. Rogers. All the staff is great but he is not. Dr. Pinney is awesome and all the other vets there!

Prayer is part of the practice

by Pam G.

I have used Dr. Pinney for several years as my vet at Critter Fixer. He does a great job and uses good judgement in his care protocols for pets. My beloved cocker "The Criminal" was killed while I was out of town. Her corpse was taken to Critter Fixer and Dr. Pinney ensured that she was well taken care of and arranged for the cremation. Since I could not be with my beloved furry family member I asked Dr. Pinney if he would have Gale pray for my dog. I knew Gale was a believer with a kind heart for my dog. They cleaned up my dog before my friend had a chance to come into the room and then Gale prayed with my friend for the Criminal. Those prayers meant everything to me. I am so thankful that they took time out of their busy schedule to pray for my deceased dog since I could not be there with her. I highly recommend Dr. Pinney and am very thankful for both him and Gale.

Great care for 10+ years

by Vicki A.

I first took my 2 rabbits to see Dr. Bob over 10 years ago. When my 2nd rabbit passed away, he did so at Dr. Bob's home, in his wife Vicki's arms. I am a huge animal lover and since my bunnies passing, have taken in many animals. I currently have 3 dogs and 3 cats. I have found most just wandering the streets, no tags and sick. Dr. Bob has, out of the kindness of his heart, spayed or neutered several of the animals I have brought in for free. These were animals that I fostered until I could find good homes for them. Once I had 2 puppies who were brought in to Petsmart, only 3 weeks old and very sick. The vet there wanted to put them down. Dr. Bob was crucial in helping me nurse these babies back to health. One was adopted into a loving home and I still have one of them. I do find the low cost vaccinations to be a good deal. When you have 6, you have to be price conscious. I have and will continue to recommend Critter Fixer. Dr. Bob and his staff are very dedicated to animals!

Great Staff and Great Service

by Jennifer F.

Critter Fixer Pet Hospital is the best place to take your pets, hands down.this particular website does not allow the ability to respond directly to other peoples' comments, so I will do so in my own review.
Anna -- Dr. Rogers may not be the best "people person", but that's why he's a veterinarian. Not an MD. You think he ENJOYS sticking his finger down your dog's throat and smelling it? I think its pretty awesome that he had that level of dedication to your pet.
Joel -- the "high school students" you referred to are not the people who GAVE your pet vaccines, they simply wrote down your information on the vaccine forms. Don't be silly :-) How long after the first seizure did you wait before you decided to take her into the vet? weeks as you report... Secondly, brain tumors can only be diagnosed definitively by an MRI. The closest MRI to Spring is at Texas A&M. Brown discharge from your dog's nipples does NOT mean breast cancer. It could either be normal early lactating, or an infection. Only time would tell. Which is why Dr. Rogers said to look out for a possible litter. Oh and by the way, any unspayed female dog is susceptible to mammary tumors, infected uterus, etc. Any half-brained pet owner knows that.
Kathy -- I'm sorry you had a bad experience there. It sounds like there was just some honest confusion. The vaccination exam is only $16, whereas a normal doctor's exam is about $43. So that's saving you $27 right there. As far as you saying that Critter Fixer overcharges you on the medication by more than $20, that just isn't true at all. I'm not sure why you would think that, but it just is not factual. I can assure you that Critter Fixer is the FIRST place that will make sure that your pet does not get vaccinations it does not need.
I could go on and on.
But to everyone who has any problems, if you just let someone know that you had a bad experience (instead of venting about it anonymously on the Internet), someone at Critter Fixer would be more than happy to make it right. I have been to a lot of different vet clinics, and Critter Fixer is going to be the first place to save your pets from things they don't need. Dr. Rogers is going to be the FIRST vet to do free services for a family in need. He may not be the best crowd pleaser, but he loves animals. The staff has a passion for your pets. That's why they work there. Its not for the money, and its not for the long hours.

Does Dr. Rogers want to be a Vet?

by Anna S.

Dr. Rogers sucks. He is arrogant to the point of carelessness and rude to both clients and his staff in equal measure. He is unpredictable and does nothing to support his self-acclaimed status as an animal advocate. He is rude, yes, but more worrisome is the fact that he does not examine the pets he deals with, (mine included), is arbitrary in his diagnostic evaluation of pets (he stuck his finger down my dog's throat and smelled it!) and generally seems to dislike his chosen career. Look elsewhere for good medicine, because you certainly won't find it with Dr. Rogers.

Worth my time and money!

by Liz B.

I have taken my pets to see Dr. Pinney at Critter Fixer for many years and I appreciate the care. Dr Rogers is the owner of the practice, but is losing his touch. He is very passionate about not over vaccinating or using over the counter products. They are only sold over the counter for a reason. Most of the flea prevenitives are toxic to animals! And heartworms are deadly, thats why they need heartworm prevenitive! For those who are complaining about product prices, dont have pets if you cant afford them. The "KIDS" people rudely speak of on the reviews are young adults that train on saturdays because their passion is animal care. They dont treat the pets, they just take your information and educate you on vaccines and heartworm preventive, etc. So why is their age a consern for you? For those who are hurting on monday they specialize in a low cost clinic every saturday. I wouldnt bring my pet to any other clinic or doctor (Dr. Pinney). Not only do they treat the pets as if they were their own but they educate you as well so you DONT over vaccinate or spending money you shouldnt be!!

I Will Not Go To Any Other Vet

by Barbara D.

I made a terrible mistake taking my kitten to Banfield at Petsmart. The Banfield vets are not equipped to diagnose and treat any serious medical condition. I lost precious time and ended up at the Emergency Vet Clinic 610 and S. Post Oak. The vet there was an ogre, and only wanted to gouge me with a $600. "treatment plan". They didn't treat my kitten correctly, and his condition worsened quickly. This ver never intorduced himself, and would never look me in the eye. He could have cared less about the kitten.
I took the kitten to Dr Rogers who could not have been more considerate and caring. He did everything in his power to save my kitten, even offering to take him home with him to care for him through the night. He did this knowing the seriousness of the kitten's condition. The staff were all so compassionate and caring. I have heard that Dr Roger's can be a "character", so maybe it is worth the effort to solicit his support-because he knows how to treat and care for your pet better than any other vet, besides Dr. Penny who is on staff at Critter Fixers as well.

Depends on the Vet you see!

by Anonymous

I have taken my babies to Critter Fixer for a few years now. I have to honestly tell you that my rating of very good is if you do not see Dr. Rogers. The other vets and staff are very caring and gentle with your pets. Dr. Rogers, while an "advocate" for the pet in terms of vaccination protocol...could improve his bedside manner. He is rude and quite frankly not compassionate towards owners who are concerned for their pets. My dog was attacked by another dog and had a deep puncture wound. The first vet we saw was great! When we came in for the follow-up just a couple of days later, we saw Dr. Rogers. He was much less optimistic about the outcome for our precious dachshund. Happily, she survived and went on to have a growth removed from her neck. Again, Dr. Rogers was just plain rude. If it wasn't for the other vets and staff, I would not continue to go there. In January, we had to put to sleep our little 17 year old girl. I am thankful Dr. Rogers was not in clinic that day. The vet and tech that took care of us were very kind and compassionate. They took good care of me and my little angel. My advice...always ask to see the other vets on staff! Overall, the clinic prices are a bit high in my opinion.

DON'T TAKE YOUR PET HERE!!!!

by Trish W.

I took my beloved 13 yr old silky terrier,Chrissy to be put to sleep. It was the worst mistake of my life!!!! They put us in a room to say goodbye and do all the paperwork. A young girl came in with the paperwork and I filled them out stating that I wanted Chrissy cremated and her ashes returned. Paid the amount for the cremation & assumed that it was going to be OK. Dr. Rogers finally came in and proceded to put the needle in Chrissy's leg and push the stuff in and she started to YELP OUT IN PAIN!!! He pulled it out and left the room for a min. she was still yelping. By the time he got back she had almost passed but he proceded to put a needle in the other leg and she stopped breathing. I left her wrapped in her blanket with the people in the back. After 2 or 3 weeks of not hearing from them I called. The people up front said they would call back but didn't. After 1 week I called back & finally got Dr. Rogers on the phone after 2 others wouldn't tell me & he said that she was mass cremated & they spread her ashes there. He returned my money. I sued in but lost. Dr. Rogers was actually pissed off because he had to show up in court. HE IS A HORRIBLE VET & I WOULDN'T TAKE AN ANIMAL I LOVE TO HIM!!! I really don't think he deserves 1 star he should get negative 100 stars!!!

Mammary cancer in dogs and diabetes in cats

by Joel T.

I brought my 5 year old, unspayed dog, Nikki, to Critter Fixer for her annual shots, which she received from the high school students that Dr. Rogers employs there. I had noticed that her teets had been secreting a brown, milky fluid over the past couple of months, and knowing that there must be something wrong, I mentioned it to them. They informed Dr. Rogers, who told us to watch out for puppies. Within the next year, Nikki started having grand mal seizures every week or so, and smaller seizures throughout the day. She no longer showed that she recognized my family and I, so we took her to Louetta Animal Hospital, right down the street (due to my next story). There, we were informed that Nikki had massive brain tumors, and that the cancer had spread from her mammary glands. Any half-brained vet should recognize that brown discharge from a nipple means breast cancer.
We also had a slightly older female cat at the time who had been squatting and urinating small amounts of blood. When we brought her to Critter Fixer, Dr. Bob injected her with insulin, telling us that she clearly had feline diabetes. Before we brought her in, she was eating and drinking fine, and had no weight loss. Her only symptom was the bloody urine. After receiving her insulin shot, she steadily lost weight, would not eat, and hardly drank or moved. When we brought her back to Dr. Rogers a few days later, he accused us of animal cruelty and told us that he would report us to the officials before putting my kitty down.
If you ask me, this man cares nothing about your pets-- only your money. I will never, ever take my pets to him again, nor would I ever recommend him to ANYONE.

No Discount at all! Unknowledgeable & Rude Staff

by Kathy J.

We took our dog to Critter Fixer's today for a heartworm and flea check. They advertise a discount on Saturdays if you are willing to wait in line. What we found out was that they discount the office visit by $20 but overcharge on the medication needed by more than $20. When I complained, the very young women who seemed to be in charge said; "We were welcome to take our business else where". Next time... We will! We had waited over an hour or we would have walked out today. The KIDS working there seemed not to know what to do. They were trying to give our dog a rabies shot and various other treatments that he didn't need. We got our dog from the SPCA two years ago and I carried in a copy of his records including the rabies shots for verification. When they looked at his records, they had nothing on him and almost refused to treat him. I will NOT GO BACK and will make sure I let others know that Critter Fixer's is not interested in what is best for you and your pet! The vet was right out of school and was the only vet there on a busy Saturday. To her credit she was nice. Apparently Dr. Rogers makes enough money on the medication not to worry about staffing his practice appropriately. We will not return! Would not recommend them to anyone!

You love your pets and so does Dr. Bob!

by D. H.

I have always had great service from Dr. Bob (rogers) and his staff. Yes if you want to save a few bucks, the lines can be long on Saturdays, but so is Wal Mart!

I took Sam, my heinze 57 dog up there for his heartworm test and the discoved a slight cough and found out we were catching a raging pneumonia infection just in time. If it had gone on much longer, they said he would have taken moths to get over it. Thankfully, they got it cleared up in a matter of weeks.

I have worked in the animal industry for many years. It is hard to care for our animals the way they deserve, buti if we cannot afford to take care of their health just like we would a child, we

Horrible.

by Charlie B.

My dog, a black lab, started having problems with her legs (limping, crying when she walked, ect.). I took her into the examination room, there the nurse examiner looked at her and checked her out, and said, "Well its definately not her ears." Then Dr. Rogers came in and very sternly set down a heart- worm infested dog's heart and said, "DO YOU WANT YOUR DOGS HEART TO LOOK LIKE THIS???" I replied, "No sir." He responded, "THEN WHY DONT YOU HAVE HER ON HEARTWORM MEDICATION?". "Because i can't afford it at the moment." After telling me that the flea collar i had on her was horrid, and he would never let a dog wear one of those, he ROUGHLY examined my dog, and was quite rude the rest of the time. He merely glanced at her ears and said that she had a raging ear infection, and gave me a bill for $175.00 for medicine, and left. The nurse examiner came back in and said that he needed to look at her ears again and told me that he just does not see how her ears are infected. A week later after no improvement, i returned, requesting a different doctor, who actually took good care of my dog. he gently examined her, and talked to her sweetly. He then X-rayed her, and said her ears were never infected, but the cause of her pain was from a fractured disc in her neck. i then had to hold her while they put my baby to sleep. THANKS ALOT DR. ROGERS!!!! i would never recommend this place, unless u ask for Dr. Penny.

Kind, compassionate care

by Susan R. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 6,644

The veterinarians and employees at Critter Fixer are kind and compassionate with animals. They helped us immensely when our two German Shepherds became very ill and had to be let go, we appreciated their kindness. They take good care of our cat, too. Their business is clean and sanitary, unlike some vets were you get the definite vet "odor". Definitely recommend them for your critters.

Discounted Shots - In what way is it discounted?

by MJ M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,253

I have taken my cat and dog(s) to get their shots on Saturday mornings to Critter Fixer. The line is long and the staff (I guess) try to work with each customer. I am not too impressed with the quality of service they perform. Once I overhead the owner raising his voice at one of his staff. He was complaining that the staff (mostly young adults) assisting the customers , were not "pushing" the products offered by the clinic. I feel sometimes that this "herding like cattle" approach is not the best service to offer customers. The discounted prices are not so discounted. I will still give the store a 3-star only because of the convenience of not having to make an appointment on Saturday morning.

Nice people, great for pets

by Linda B. | insider Insider | Rank: 28,398

The staff at Critter Fixer is very nice and helpful. They attend to customers needs and will try very hard to provide answers to out of the ordinary questions.

The practice philosophy at Critter Fixer is wonderful for pets. Dr. Rogers and staff really believe that they need to act in the best interest of the pets, and if this means going against what is commonly done. Many vets will vaccinate according to what has always been done, but the staff at Critter Fixer firmly believes that the evidence against over vaccinating animals is much more important than making money off of giving pets unnecessary, and sometimes harmful, vaccines.

I think it is great what they do and that they are willing to go against the grain to protect animals.
