In 1998 I bought my first embroidery machine from Bernina. It was just a small beginner machine, which I learned quickly and also attended a class Bernina offered. In less than a year I was ready for a bigger machine. A lady I met at Bernina suggested I go to Arlington Sewing Machine Supply in Arlington and look at a Brother. I went to ASM and meet Billie Teeter, bought an 8500 and loved it, then moved on to an ULT02. Last December 08, I moved up again to an Innovis 4500D and I love it. You cannot learn everything in one class, you have to experiment on your own and if anyone didn't learn in their classes, they need to ask for help and they'll get it. To me ASM is the only place I would ever shop. We have since retired and moved away, but I still manage to get to the shop occasionally. Plus they will mail you supplies and help you all they can by phone. I give this shop 5 stars!!

I purchased a sewing machine from Arlington Sewing Machine that was on sale and paid over $3000 - quite a lot for me!!! The reason
I bought from ASM was mainly because they told me the machine came with classes and they did not just leave you to "figure" it out!
I have been to my classes and the girls were really nice and there were all sorts of machines in the class. Therefore, it was "just remember to clean the bobbin case after so many hours of use - and you all should have a brush. Well I do...and I don't have a clue what to brush - do I flick it in the bobbin case like the lady said or do I take the area apart like the lady at the Jo-Ann location did on the Viking I watched her show another lady that was complaining about her "classes". I find it hard to believe that everyone LOVES their experience when I happened to be at Jo-Anne's and the only other customer there was complaining also.
I would never recommend ASM to anyone. The classes were geared to selling thread and needles and other supplies-
I have struggled to teach myself by having to read my book that is not that great. After the classes, I still have presser foots still in plastic wrap and even in the case that I don't have a clue how to use. I have a $3000 machine that for all I know what to do with it
I could have bought a $150 Singer at Walmart-

I have bought several machines from Arlington Sewing Machine Supply Company. They have always done the service on all my machines except once. Can not say enough good about them. I now live in New Hampshire but in my travels back to Texas I take my machines in for service at least one a year. If I have problems I call them and they will walk me through it. I tried to have my machines serviced at a dealer in New Hampshire and it was a disaster. Thanks for all the good work!

I take all three of my sewing machines here yearly for maintenance and they always come back sewing like new. Recently my sister gave me an embroidery machine that she had and that her husband tried to repair. When I got it it worked but there were obviously problems with it. I took it i to Arlington Sewing Machine Supply Company for general servicing. I got it back this morning. I am so excited, I've been stitching lace designs all morning without any tension or thread breakage problems. It's like a new machine!! I cannot recommend this shop enough. They are awesome and their prices are very reasonable.

I have a 30 yr old Singer and they keep it running in tip top condition. When it came time for me to buy a new serger, they steered me to one that I would be happy with. Free lessons on how to use the machine were included and the teacher was great!

PROS: good old fashion service
CONS: none

I always have trouble finding needles for my sewing machine until I found Arligton Sewing Supply. They have everything sewing machine. I find all my threads, attachments ,etc there and they are one of the only places that still work on sewing machines. They carry embroidery machines and very expensive sewing machines as well as those very affordable sewing machines. If you are looking for sewing supplies- give them a try!

This is a great store your getting all your sewing supplies. They offer sales, classes repairs, top name brand sewing machines, and free estimates. They even have interest free financing available. Plus they sell software too. They are even opened 6 days a week. The location isnt the greatest due to it is downtown but it is worth it.

PROS: Affordable, Friendly, Classes, Many Name Brands
CONS: Location is not the greatest

Message from Arlington Sewing Machine Supply

ARLINGTON SEWING MACHINE SUPPLY COMPANY

A family-owned and operated business for the past 22 years.

David Plant, bought the small sewing machine business at 308. W. Main St. in Arlington back in 1976 in what was by then a five-store building complex, his store being the smallest of the five. He was only 20 at the time.

Arlington Sewing Machine did so well that whenever another tenant in the complex moved out, the sewing machine company took over the space. Today the company occupies all of the space in the aging building with the exception of a small cobbler company that is in itself an Arlington institution.

??I think that every time more space here becomes available we ask ourselves if we should really take it,? said Larry Plant, the general manager of the store and also Carla Plant??s brother-in-law ?? it??s a family business in a family where several other brothers and sisters also own sewing machine operations in other cities. ??So far we??ve always taken the expansion route, though we never want to leave our downtown location.?

Arlington Sewing Machine has 16 employees, including a near-legend in the sewing machine industry, 85-year-old Billie Teeter, the first-ever female store manager in the Singer chain. She??s the company??s top sales woman and works every day the store is open.

Other employees express similar dedication. ??I don??t have a life. This is it,? Larry Plant said with a laugh and a wave at the interior of the store. ??We offer expertise in an industry in which expertise is increasingly difficult to find.?.

At the same time one tearful customer might be working with a repairman in an effort to salvage the ancient sewing machine ??that mother used,? while another customer ponders the potential purchase of a $5,000 computerized, video screened machine that receives its programming wirelessly. The old Singer brand is still around but these days the business is dominated by Japanese, Swedish and German engineering ?? names like Brother, Sharp, Janome, Viking and Pfaff.

??Your typical customer these days is more interested in sewing as a craft or even art form than in saving money by sewing their own things,? Larry Plant said.

Sewing machine buffs these days lean toward computerized models and scanner technology. It??s not your grandma??s sewing machine anymore. In fact the big buzz in the industry involves sewing machines that combine computer and video technology. Sewers or embroiders view their work through a magnified screen, enabling highly precise designs.

Arlington Sewing Machine has two small classrooms in its store, but frequently has to find larger accommodations for special events like the store??s two-day ??Embroidery Party? featuring embroidery design digitizer Steve Wilson, whose clients include companies like Disney and the NFL. The next such event is coming up Oct. 24-25.

??We??ll typically have 150 people or so sign up for that, so we have to rent facilities like the Johnny High auditorium,? Carla Plant said.

Meanwhile, Arlington Sewing Machine conducts an ongoing series of smaller classes, some for beginners, some for quilters, some for embroidery enthusiasts and with some courses designed for owners of specific brand machines.
