New Owner
by Narguess A.
I think they're under new ownership now. I've taken my car there twice, as a second opinion for what the dealership todl me,a nd both times their quotes were less than what the dealer quoted me (I have an '04 Jeep) and they've done all the work in a timely manner. The new oener (as of a few months ago), Cyrus, really does a great job and I would recommend them to anyone!

Go Somewhere Else
by LaDawn B.
My ex-husband used to take our vehicles to Montrose Car Care and he always got great service and good prices. It was wonderful to have them in the neighborhood. I'm the daughter of a mechanic...so I know my way around a car and wasn't too worried when I needed to have my brakes replaced.
I dropped the car off to have it checked out. I stopped by a couple of hours later and they told me that all four of my brakes needed to be replaced AND all four rotors were damaged and it would take them a couple of days. I knew that wasn't the case, but before I left, I had to pay $40 for an oil change that would have cost me $25 at Jiffy Lube.
I took my car to my old mechanic way out in the burbs...guess what? My back breaks needed to be changed, the front had some wear, and the rotors were perfectly fine...and he had it all done in less than an hour. That little drive out to the burbs saved me $1000 and two days without my car.
They pulled a similar thing with a friend of mine....unfortunately she didn't go get a second opinion.

montrose car care gypsies! beware
by REED C.
these are not nice guys. i took my truck in because i live down the street. i had jury duty and could leave my vehicle for a few days. i told them to do whatever work within a few guidelines under $500 and to call my office if more was needed.
they kept my truck up on hydraulic jack for three days without doing anything. when i went to pick up my truck they had a laundry list of things that were not even needed. they said i needed over 1200 in work just to pass my smog test!!!! wrong! i complained and was told i couldn't get my truck for another half hour...i went home and called another mechanic whom eventually fixed my vehicle for $384. WORST YET....WHILE I WAS WAITING TO GO PICK UP MY VEHICLE, THEY DRAINED MY OIL AND STRIPPED MY OIL-PAN CAP AS SABOTAGE! REALLY, NO EXAGGERATION! BEWARE! ask your friends and neighbors...i did after the fact and thats when i was told these guys are the montrose gypsies! good luck and god bless! r

OVERCHARGED ME. I came in their to fix some work on the bottom of my car..noises and broken parts. Anyways, I came back there to explain it wasn't fixed right. They had the nerve to say more cost is associated to repair it. Though, I was promised this would take care of everything. LIARS HERE.

I recently took my volkswagen passat to the dealership, because i had a check engine light on----after a number of days and wasted time, they installed a engine for me and cleared the light. Weeks later the light came back on and i returned to dealership, only to have them clear light and tell me every thing was ok. well the light came back on---on a referal, i took my car to montrose car care and told them my problem. Wow what a difference, i was greeted promptly and my car was taken in for diagnosis. i cannot say how much i was impressed with the people here, very proffessional and courteous. awhile later, they came and told me that there was a problem with a check valve and they replaced it,cleared the code and light and i was quiclkly on my way and the light has not come back on-----------all my praise and thanks to everyone at montrose car care-------------------------------------------------------

Tried to take advantage of me
Took my car here two months ago for a transmission fluid change since they are AAA approved and I thought I could trust them. I asked for it to be drained (much safer for the transmission), rather than flushed, but they said they would do flush only since it's quicker. I went ahead and agreed to a flush and got that done for under $100, which is the average price for the job.
Then the mechanic informs me that the head gasket is leaking and needs replacing. Now how much would that cost? An extra 500 or so dollars. Of course, I didn't agree to get it done. Since then, I've had two other mechanics look at it, and they've said it does NOT need to be replaced. I am a female and probably look like I know nothing about cars, but I do know quite a bit and if I went along, I could've been swindled into something that didn't need replacing.
Absolutely would not go back here again, although they did a satisfactory job w/ the tranny flush. But as far as being honest mechanics go, I wouldn't say I'd recommend them.

do **NOT** take your car here unless you know ALLOT about cars

They would have ripped me off for OVER HALF A GRAND!!! I recently took my car there for repairs, and they came up with a list of "needed" repairs totalling over $1300. I went somewhere else for a second opinion, and only paid $720. Even worse, the repairs I needed were caused by a broken waterpump, a waterpump that Montrose Car Care had installed only 2 years ago! A waterpump should not need to be replaced after only 2 years.
Unless you know enough about cars to know exactly what needs to be fixed on your car, I would ****strongly**** recommend that you do not take your car to Montrose Car Care Center. I could not believe that they felt no shame in knowingly ripping off a financially struggling student. I had taken my car there several times before, so there is no telling the total amount that I have wasted with them in the past either.

This place has been around for a while and was recomended to me by a couple of friends. I am a seemingly easy target as a young female, but I didn't feel like I was being talked down to or taken advantage of. My car was ready when they said it would be, and the cost was reasonable compared to other repair shops.

Avoid it All together
by NYNikkie
I know about cars. I've owned about 6-7 used cars, and 1 new one. I've had everything from 2 dropped Transmissions to rotor wear and tear. i can change my own oil, air filter, etc. I know what i'm doing. I was having difficulty with my truck when i first move dto texas. It wasn't getting enough pick up and I thought there was possibly a small leak somewhere, or that maybe i just needed a transmission flush since I had driven it from California to Texas in August. little did I know what would happen. I had it towed in after it died SOLELY due to the fact that i was new in town and it was down the street from my new apartment.
then they told me it was my Fuel Filter and my Carburator. Then I picked it up and 3 times after that I had to have it brought back for the SAME issue. They claimed it was fine and my fault. I knew something was wrong but being new to the Area and their AAA rating i thought maybe, just maybe things were legit. turns out the Whole thing was going to cost me $1,100!!!! then when they finally *fixed* the problem turns out my timing belt was off so they apparently re-adjusted it. twice. then i miraculously needed that done.
All in all i got taken for a $1,900 ride and it wasn't very fun. Fortunetly i was assertive when i needed and got them to pay for 4 out of the 5 rental cars i needed from Enterprise, and then when there was still a balance owed to Enterprise they called me and told me i was to pay. I informed them i paid the shop for it, but lo and behold they somehow got my Credit Card number (a new one not given at the time of rental) and they charged me for it.
My advice is to just stay away. the mechanics are shady at best and the only reason i kept going to the place was because they actually let me pay in installments. I almost didn't make the last payment to them and was going to take them to small claims, but decided to pay and just be done with them.
Pros: nothing
Cons: Everything

DISHONEST.
by bastauff
This place is completely dishonest and targets women. They use David, their front counter man, to befriend the customer by throwing in "freebies" like coolant and oil changes and then completely rip you off. I took my car there after a bad experience with an oil change at JiffyLube, an admitted mistake on my part, and they replaced a valve cover which I'm now learning from my new mechanic was done improperly and has stripped the part. I then got them to fix the carbon canister in my gas tank and magically, the next day my breaks completely went out and needed new roders. The mechanic told me it was because women push too hard on the breaks. The day after they fixed the front breaks, my front right wheel became so loose while driving down the street that it almost fell off and I had to get towed to the shop where they explained, "We took it off and put it on tighter". This seemed like an extremely clumsy mistake to me. Now that I'm experiencing other problems with my car, I've taken it to a new shop where they are having trouble getting to certain areas because of the shoddy mechanic work done at Montrose Car Care. Please beware.
