Love this restaurant--great food. They have a great flatbread appetizer that changes daily. Food portions are generous, so we have been known to split an entree and salad. Be sure to order the Maguire Salad.

Nightmare dinner experience
by Irina V.
Last Saturday night, Aug. 30th, we went to Maguire's to celebrate my brother in law birthday. It was a small party of 8. Our troubles started after we placed orders. Where do I start?
1. Ordered white vine and got served red. I accepted it, even though I was offered to be brought white. No hearts broken so far. I did not even have him change it.
2. Salads were great!
3. My husband specifically asked to have a sauce on a side instead of the steak. He got his steak served soaked in sauce. No worries, this is a minor thing and they brought another plate in a minute.
4. Majority of our food was brought out by waiters who had no clue who order what and they were just shoving plates in front of random guests in our party.
5. My sister, who hosted the party, is allergic to shellfish. The waiter was told about her not allowed to have shrimp at least five times. Her sea bass entre arrived topped with shrimp and was immediately sent back. Two minutes later the waiter returned with a different sea bass plate stating that there was a mix up and my sisters shrimpless plate was taken to someone else by mistake. After a closer look at this different plate, still had a shrimp buried on a side. The kitchen staff has not even bothered to wipe the side of the plate after scooping the shrimp off it. This was not only a blatant lie, but a very dangerous practice where my sister could have gotten hospitalized after consuming shrimp sauce that penetrated her fish.
6. The birthday boy, my brother in law, and I ordered Bouillabaisse. It looked very good until I took a whiff of the aroma. It smelled and tasted of a 5 day old seafood. I know bouillabaisse should have a strong smelling and tasting fish broth, but it should not be fishy. I asked several party members to taste it too, since they also considered ordering it. Everyone agreed it was appalling, so the two platters were sent back.
A manager stopped by in 2 minutes asking what was wrong with the bouillabaisse He has not asked anything, nor apologized to my sister about her food. When I suggested he tastes it, he told me the bouillabaisses taste and smell come from saffron. I am a foodie and a good cook. I bought my first saffron in Spain and I know its flavor. After I nicely explained this to the manager, he stopped arguing and offered that we order something else. My brother in law had chosen a stake entre that was liked by other in the party. Unfortunately, my appetite was spoiled to try anything else. My sister too could not eat anything after her adventure with shrimp. We both were close to being sick to our stomaches from the bouillabaisse aroma and wait staff's attitude.
7. When the waiter brought a small birthday cake, he asked if any of us wanted coffee, cappuccino or any other drink. My husband asked for espresso. We finished the cake, were brought a check, but still had no espresso. At this point, all everyone in the party wanted to do was to leave, but my sister asked the waiter what happened to espresso. The reply was, that it was never ordered.
8. We were not charged for food we sent back. It was appalling we were presented with a check at all.
Good: Salads & Steaks
Bad: Manager, waiter, customer service and taste
Ruined evening and birthday.
Incidentally, this was not our first visit of the restaurant. The service and food in our prior visits was what brought us back, but something changed since.
I cannot recommend Maguire's after this dinner.

The food is delicious here. Of course I've only tried the Cajun Chicken Penne from their entree selections. It is way too good to pass up and even has a spicy kick to it. My bf likes to have the salmon.
Their salads are delicious and so are the few daily flat breads I've tried. The Texas wedge is nice and of course Texas portioned with lots of cheese, bacon and ranch. The grand marnier chocolate mousse cake or whatever it is is just divine. If you're a chocolate lover go for that. Their tea is a delicious fruity tea that's not that fake syrup flavoring.
Overall it's always good. The decor's different and nice for a date. It's not cheap here though, but you do get quality food. Never been disappointed.

Maguires has awesome food period. Every entree I have had there was delicious...even the meatloaf! Try the appetizers, those are also just as tasty, especially the flat bread pizza. Atmosphere and service are delightful and this place is an A+!

Really good food, with an upscale sports bar atmosphere. It is also open late for lunch, which makes it the only place in the area to have a nice lunch between 2:00pm and 4:00pm. Next door to Perry's.
PROS: Appetizers, Salads and Steaks

EXCEPTIONAL!!!
by Foody Guy
We've been dozens of times, and we'll go dozens more. They have done a really wonderful job with this restaurant. The fresh new look and the new menu are extremely enjoyable. Very happy to see some of the menu's best items have stayed, while the new additions are equally delicious! I've had almost everything on the menu, and without exception, all are worth recommending. The halibut and Maguire's Salad are a MUST! Kudos to the staff and owners at Maguire's! Their passionate devotion to exceptional food, service and astmosphere keep us coming back for more!
Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere!
Cons: Distance . . . we need a Maguire's in Austin!

Great Food, Great Atmosphere
by mustang93
My wife and I ate at Maguire's last Friday for the first time since they remodeled. The food was as good as ever, and the update looks great. My wife had the fish special, and I had the beef. Both were excellent. Like everyone else in town, they had taken tomatoes off of the menu, so we tried the bbq chicken flat-bread for the first time (we've gotten the southwest flat-bread before). It was outstanding, too. The service was attentive without being intrusive, and we had a wonderful time. We will be returning soon. Highly recommended in all regards.
Pros: Food quality, service, atmosphere
Cons: None

WOW--LOVE the remodel!
by tinkerbellbarbie
Maguires has long been a family favorite, and we have always loved the decor, but the remodel really rocks! The whole look is stunning from the floor-length drapes to the very chic new dining chairs...awesome! We were happy to see that all of our faves were still on the menu, though...especially the meatloaf and the maple-ginger glazed salmon, among others. We had the fish special with some amazing couscous and it blew us away. Still have a kickin wine list...and our server told us that there will be new stuff added to the menu soon, so we will definitely be back in the next few weeks to see what awaits our taste buds! Definitely put it on your summer to-do list!

Terrible Steaks
by quake4
The steaks were terrible, I had the center cut prime ribeye and my wife had the cracked peppercorn new york strip. Mine was cooked correctly but the steak was chewy and my wife's was overcooked and tough as well. The table behind us also complained about their food, I don't know what they had. We ordered desserts, my lava cake was ok to good but the rum bread pudding of my wife's was terrible. It was tasteless, the rum sauce was terrible, no taste of rum, and just seemed that it was simply placed in the microwave oven because it was warm and cold throughout and not even, hot spots and cold spots like microwaved food. Seems that people are not going there, very few on a friday night and the ones that were there was a group that was simply rude and innapropriate. They were never told to be mindful of other patrons. We will not be going back. The service was good but the food was subpar at best considering for 2 people the bill was 124.00 dollars. For that price of steaks I expect a whole lot more. better to pay another 10 to 20 dollars and go to a true steak house like III forks, Ruth's Chris, or Silver Fox. Those beat Maguire's hands down and their bread pudding is to die for. Hope this helps, wish some of these other reviews were true, would have saved us a terrible food dining experience and money, well we would have gone to one of the other one's.
Pros: None really
Cons: Terrible food for the price, even if it were cheaper, on the level of chili's

Always GOOD. NEVER diasppointed.

This restaurant is one of the better ones around! The food is always good, service is always there, and the price is right! Such fair pricing, I love it! Never fails! Always a great pick!

WOW!!!! Great great great!!!!!
by wendyyork
You really have to try this place, from the salmon to the steaks and the entree salads, this place is a two thumbs up! The lounge is a great place to meet and greet as well, nice sized booths and a bar stool seating that is not overcrowded and lound like most places that are this great. My favorite dish is the rib eye!!! Call for a reservation.... they fill up fast!
Pros: The brunch is amazing!!!! I love the rib eye for dinner too!
Cons: fills up fast, so make a reservation.

Ok food that is overpriced
by lizparham
The food is rarly consistent here and just barely above average. For the price that is not good enough. I felt the meals and the wine list was overpriced for the quality. Once I had a great special, a trout with a lemon butter sauce, excellent. But the next time I got salmon thinking it would be as good and it was kind of greasy with way too much butter.
Good time to go is happy hour, great drink speacials and the bar food is pretty good.
Pros: Convenient, good happy hour drinks
Cons: over priced, the fabrics they picked make it feel like a vegas casino

Good food in a comfortable, yet upscale atmosphere.
by hooked96
Maguires is a place where you can dress up or down and feel right at ease. The atmosphere is good and the food is wonderful. They always have amazing daily specials that are a great value. I've been to this place no less than 20 times, ordering something different each time, and I've never been disappointed. Good value for a great experience.

Maguire's is a great value. The staff is very helpful and informative. The bar is a great place to unwind and have an appetizer or a full meal. We have been going here for years and have never had a bad experience either with the food or the service!! It is a great place for a first date or a "girl's night" Half price wine on Sunday is amazing!! The barstaff is EXTREMELY helpful and will steer you in the right direction as to what will complement your meal the best!! A++++
Pros: Great staff...Great food!!
Cons: Haven't seen one!!!

Four star dining at affordable prices
by mwittie
We've been eating at Maguire's since it opened. Every time we eat somewhere else, we're disappointed with the service or the food or the value. The quality of the food is consistently excellent here. The menu has something for everyone. My favorites are the Cajun Penne Pasta and the Beef Bourginon and any of the salads. The filet is perhaps the best steak value in town. It rivals the big steak houses in taste, but it's not a la carte like at Bob's, Del Frisco or Ruth's. The service staff is friendly and efficient. The management goes out of their way to make sure you are satisfied with your experience. You can't beat it for overall value and atmosphere.
Pros: Food, service, quick seating
Cons: None

Great All-around!
by burgerbabe
We live in the neighborhood but never went in because we thought it was a "fancy" steak place - looks are very deceiving here. What a great "neighborhood spot" as there slogan says. Really friendly and fairly knowledgeable staff, good wine list (very reasonable prices) great food - pork chops, Maple Salmon & crab shooters all "best ever" for us. Everything else was excellent as well. We'll bring our friends back for sure!
Pros: price to value, service, atmosphere
Cons: none that we saw!

Too much hype
by jlubbbbs
I took some friends visiting Dallas for the weekend to Maguire's because of all the great reviews. Our food was very average, and our service was poor--our server messed up one order three times. I won't be going back.

Neighborhood Gem
by yankeeintx
It sure is nice to find a place where you can go regularly and get great 'cheffy' food, knowledgable, polished (but not snooty) service and a very comfortable atmosphere. I agree with bertelsen's review that you will be comfortable here no matter the occasion....the best part - other than the Chocolate Lava Cake - is that they are very reasonably priced. I had a salmon entree at another restaurant that wasn't nearly as good and it was $6.00 more than Maguire's!#*!# I have recently discovered their Sunday night 1/2 priced wine special - I got a bottle of Far Niente Chard for $49.00 - it's over $100 in every other restaurant I've been to!
Pros: very affordable, nice staff, consistency

We've been eating here since it opened and it's continued to deserve its four stars for both food and service. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and not the least bit stuffy. One can dine there in shorts or in mink! The service is excellent tho' unobtrusive and the food is wonderful with a varied menu to fit almost any taste. My favorite is the halibut, but I must say, I've never had a bad meal there. Hats off to the chef and the owners

BEST VALUE IN DALLAS!!!
by wine_o4pinot
I've been a regular at Maguire's for the last 3 years. I am almost hesitant to write this because I have always thought that Maguire's was Dallas' best kept secret. But I've gotten to know Mr. Maguire over the years and ther is nobody more deserving than he & his staff. I have been dining out 3+times/wk for the last 15 years and have yet to find a restaurant as consistent with high quality food & service anywhere - I honestly have NEVER had a bad experience of any kind. The wine list is quality and extremely well priced. Their menu is diverse and creative and by far the best value in Dallas! I don't know how they can offer such great dishes at prices lower than even Houston's!...and their Maguire's meatloaf is so good I usually order one to go for the next day!
Pros: GREAT VALUE, great staff, consistent food
Cons: too far from my house, parking at lunch

Excellent food, wonderful atmosphere
by jduffm
I'm a frequent diner at Maguire's. The food is fantastic, never a bad meal - great proportions and the Maguire's salad is the best. The Wednesday lunch special - enchiladas are delicious. The wait staff is prompt and knowlegable, the food is wonderful and the mural is beautiful - We will continue coming back to experiencs all that Maguire's is best at!
