Genghis Grill-The Mongolian Stir Fry is a build your own bowl, casual Asian stir-fry. The atmosphere is colorful, lively and a lot of fun! It's actually not a cuisine, but an INTERACIVE style of exhibition cooking modeled after a centuries old legend. According to legend, 12th century Mongol warrios, led by the mighty warrior, Genghis Khan, heated their shields over open fires to grill food in the fields of battle. Choose your meats, spies and sauces and our Grill Masters will stir-fry the food with long wooden sticks, churning the ingredients until cooked to perfection. Genghis Khan & His Troops Ate Well...Very Well!

Genghis Grill- needs to have a FLOWER MOUND location!

by Mark R.

Genghis Grill is a wonderful, super healthy place which seems consistent in every location. There are similar family-owned "Mongolian Grills" in DFW, but Genghis has a much wider selection of meats, vegetables, and sauces than competitors.

In case you are not familiar, the Genghis Grill forms a cafeteria-like line where you fill a small metal bowl with your choices of foods. First comes meat choices, then spices, and then vegetables and veggie mixes. At the end of the line, you choose and combine a number of sauces to your tastes - from sweet to sour, from mild to flaming hot. The final bowl is presented to the cooking staff, where you choose a starch (or, tell them you are a diabetic and lay off the starch). The resulting mix is thrown onto a super hot, large round cooking service with multiple people tending to the cooking and mixing of your ingredients. This is where Genghis is different than the Ma and Pop operations - Genghis uses dividers to insure your meal is yours alone. Other places, you always get a mix of your neighbor's selections with your food choices. The result is brought to your table steaming hot and very fresh. It might take a trip or two to determine your favorite mix of spices, sauces and ingredients - a little goes a long way! I cannot stress enough how fresh and healthy the food is...completely amazing.

This is THE place to bring a hungry family. We found that if possible, come early on weekends to avoid long lines and jam-packed seating. There are tiny high tables that seat 2 people with high chairs, or church-pew style booths that run the length of the room. This would be our only gripe - normal tables and booths would be nice, unless you cherish knocking elbows with strangers while you eat.

One thing we have noticed on multiple trips to both Fort Worth and Dallas locations is that there is never the same staff twice. Why this is, we do not know. All over the walls are invitations to start your own (franchised) location. We looked into it because Flower Mound/Highland Village would be an ideal location for this chain to plant a restaurant. But, we found the startup costs to be prohibitive for most people in the current economy. And that's a shame, because the fresh, healthy food, and the concept of each person choosing ingredients to taste, would be very appealing in upscale North Texas suburbs (hint hint - FLOWER MOUND). But as it is - it is truly worth the drive to Dallas or Fort Worth locations. The food is reasonably priced, extremely healthy (they even have a "heart healthy menu) and so tasty that you want to return again and again to try new combinations. This is a chain that really got it right - so some of you billionaires look into getting your own franchise shop set up. You will not be disappointed.

This place was great. My first time the staff explained how it worked and were very friendly to us. After we selected our food we enjoyed a nice atmosphere and then got our food very quickly. Tasted great. Fantastic. We will definitely go back and suggest this place to all our friends.

Great Mongolian Food

by Lisa S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,431

This is an excellent place to eat. It's very unique... you get to choose what items you'd liked cooked - buffet style. Including the meat, vegetables, spices and sauces. They have recommendations on recipe cards close to the buffet selections but you can create your own. Once you've made your selections they cook it in front of you while you wait. Because you can go back as many times as you'd like they don't allow to go boxes unfortunately.

Fun Restaurant

by Jana F. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,116

Genghis Grill is a unique restaurant. It's sort of a do it yourself place, except for the cooking part. It is set up so that you take a bowl and go along a buffet type of line and fill your bowl with the things you want the chefs to cook for you. You start with your meats, then add veggies, then add spices..etc.
They have recipe cards that tell you the things to add for a particular meal, or you can just make it up as you go along.
When you get as much as you can possibly fit into the bowl, you let the cooks know what type of rice or noodles you want and then you watch them cook it for you. It's fun.

Eh.

by missbethany

First off, I had heard from people(the same people that like places like Pancho's I'm guessing) that this place was great. So lucky me, I get a buy one get one coupon in the mail and decide to try it out. If you actually like Mongolian and have been somewhere that's actually good, I don't recommend going here. It's the Burger King or ugly red headed step child of Mongolian Grills and it's definitely not even worth what I paid with the coupon. It wasn't awful, I did finish my food...which is better than some places, and I held it down all night! So hurrah Genghis grill for not making me hurl. The bowls are small and no matter what combination of their pre-mixed (which I also did not like) spices you add to your dish, it always comes out tasting like ketchup with a dash of some generic "oriental/teryiaki" spice. I give it below average because it was clean and it didn't make my tummy regret my walking in there, which really, is far from laudable.

Pros: It was clean, and the service was great.

Cons: Food wasn't worth the price.
