I brought my cat thursday sept. 09, at 10 am in an emergency due to high fever

the vet treated her with steroids, fluid and antibiotic injections
the day after my cat was panting, unable to breathe and I brought her back to them friday sept. 10 at 10 am

after two hours of meaningless exams, they were unable to see her distress and that she had fluids in her lungs!

dr coleman was more worried about charging me whatever she could charge me

at 6 pm I brought her to the emergency clinic in round rock for her to have oxygen therapy

around 9pm the vet called me to say the diagnosis changed, she had fluids in her lungs, not a asthma attack

they called me around 11:30 pm to tell me that my cat had stop breathing

my cat died a horrible, painful death because of central texas animal hospital

the fluids in her lungs is the result of the thursday's injections and they're not even able to see their screw up

The building is lovely and the vet techs are friendly and helpful. I have only met Dr. Julien, but I will never let my dog see him again. I knew my dog was having some balance problems, but I needed to get him in to a vet for an exam and to pick up a heartworm med. prescription. Dr. Julien decided without consulting me (or telling me the price!) to draw blood samples for a distemper test. He then did not even so much as listen to my dog's heartbeat or look in his eyes and nose, instead he told me that he was sure my dog had distemper and I would need to figure out what to do about it. And then they charged me for an exam, in addition to the very expensive bloodwork! My neighbor warned me that Dr. Julien was awful, and she was absolutely right. Maybe other doctors at this location are better, but if I ever go back to that clinic, I know I'll never have him see my pets again.

I moved here eight years ago and looked for a clinic near my house. I feel very fortunate that it was CTAH. They have not only administered routine checks but also gave me expert advice on seeing a specialist in caring for surgical emergencies. I wish finding a doctor for my two legged family members was as easy. Drs. Banks and Modak are extremely competent and the staff are truly supportive and friendly. Can't wait for building completion.

I recently took my 12-year old dog in to the vet because her ears have been really itchy since we moved here. It was the 1st time I'd been there - we're new to the area - and I was greeted cheerfully by the receptionists up front. They fussed over my Ginger, really made us feel welcomed. I'm a little late getting her shots (with the move and all) and was dreading a guilt trip at the vet. But - no one made me feel bad. (My vet in California would have really jumped my case!) The doctor did Ginger's exam - he seemed very thorough and put her (and me) at ease! He cleaned out her ears and prescribed some medicine. The doctor's assistant showed me how to do the medicine and asked if I had any questions. Everyone that I encountered there was so professional and helpful. They even called me a few days later to see how Ginger's ears were doing. I will definitely be bringing my other dog and cat there when they need to see a doctor. I recommend Central Texas Animal Hospital - they are reasonably priced and are caring and professional.

Modak is misdiagnosed my dog a few years ago. Said she was incontinent. The dog was only four years old. Wanted me to put her on pills the rest of her life. (Money grab) The problem cleared up on its own in a couple of weeks. Julian is just as bad. Said my dog whos is nine now has kidney problems and needs KD Science diet. $44 for a 20lbs bag. He said she needed her teeth cleaned. The bactiera in her mouth was part of the kidney problem? Charged me for $370 total for it! I have owned several dogs in my life and they all lived past 12 years of age without a teeth cleaning. What a ripoff. Female doctor there tried to tell me to buy their joint health food. Said it might help my dogs allergies too? Give me a break. They will tell you anything to keep the money train coming. I am done with them.

We had to take our little dachshund down to them for weekend care that our regular vet couldn't provide. He was in the hospital, recovering from a teeth cleaning that had started to develop into pancreatitis. (He's an older dog). Anyway, our regular vet couldn't quite get the diagnosis down. The doc's at Central were able to correctly diagnose and treat him so that instead of taking him back to our regular vet on Monday, like we thought we were going to have to do, we were able to take him home! The only issue we had with our experience was that the billing was a little deceptive in the way it was presented. It was not clearly explained and I still think we were charged twice for two procedures, however, we are very grateful for the care that our dog received. They know what they are doing for your pet...the paperwork, not so much. Make sure you double-check your bill!

In my experience, the Doctors and staff at CTAH deliver "world class" care! I've been taking my cats there for 7 years and have always had great experiences. Even when my Callie had to be put to sleep, the entire staff showed such compassion. I recommend this hospital to my friends because I know that they'll be treated right.
I also LOVE the groomer, Janice. She takes great care of my babies!

My review is 2 thumbs down for sure. My 3 yr. old cat was diagnosed by Dr. Modak and Dr. Julian wrong. They at first (Dr.Modak) even told me that sometimes our pets tend to act more hurt than they were in company with the owner. Couldnt find anything visible wrong but agreed she had trauma to her left front shoulder. Gave me pain meds for her. I was the one who found punture wounds on her a block away from the vets office and went back. No one had shaved her to really look at her until I went back. Modack was already gone and Dr. Julian said it looked like she was bit by a dog. gave me antibiotics to go along with the pain meds given a few minutes ago.To make this long painful story short < Trinket was bitten by a rattlesnake. By the time anyone figured this out by the next day and I rushed her to the emergency for the antivenin it was too late. The one bottle that they administered to her along with blood they were fixing to give her was just too late. My Trinket died because I believe Dr Modak was in too big a hurry to get home or whatever that day (Friday 5/16/08) to really check her out like he should have. The next day even asked me if there were any spiders around my house , like brown reclouse's when I took her back desperatly trying to get help for her. He should have done more in his examination of her. At least shaved her hair where he believed her trauma was , maybe he would have given her the right diagnoses then, maybe not. I will never take anyone back there again ever. She was in so much pain , so much. I still hear her crying to me for help. Can't get it out of my mind.Dr.Modak you are suppose to be the doctor and know this kind of stuff , who am I ? bill was 275.00 with 2 x rays that I had requested.

I was referred to Central Texas Animal Hospital by my neighbor. She said that she has taken her pets there for about 8 years. From the initial phone call, I was impressed. They were so nice when I called, telling me which days they have discounts and making sure that I knew how to get there. They fussed over my "Roofie" - a 9 year-old hound mix. Each person that we encountered was so nice and professional. The doctor that we saw was young, but caring and personable. The prices were reasonable - less than my vet in Round Rock. I would highly recommend this clinic!

I have been using CTAH for over 20 years. They have seen me through the death of 2 dogs with compassion and understanding, helping the surviving dog deal with the adjustment. We now have 2 other dogs and continue to go see them even after moving to the Round Rock area. They truly care about their patience and do their best to make them as comfortable as possible.

Although I found Dr. Coleman to be very compassionate and informative about my 12 yr old dog's diagnosis, I was very dissatisfied with the clinic manager's attitude and the way she handled payment. It was taking an usually long time to drain fluid from my dog's abdomen and after I had paid the invoice, Michelle stated ""We didn't charge you enough. It's taking too long and too many staff members to get this done so we'll have to charge more next time."". My dog is in the end stages of liver failure. The last thing a grieving pet owner needs from the staff at a clinic is a crappy attitude and someone making them feel bad because it taking longer than normal to perform a procedure. It was past closing time on a Saturday and I felt as if she was being nasty to me because she couldnt close for the day. We have been patrons of CTAH for years and after our sweet lab passes away, we'll be looking for a new clinic. It's not always about the bottom dollar CTAH... It's about making your clients feel at ease and well taken care of, especially in times of grief.

My cat was skin and bones after his best friend, another cat had died. Dr. Modok understood cat behavior, gave an internal injection of fluids under the skin and sent us home...all for a reasonable cost. I doubted the treatment, but followed his instructions for at home care. Day by day my cat's health improved. The staff there was very knowledgeable about animals and compassionate. From front desk staff to the techs...they knew their stuff. I hope they keep up the good work. They have cared for our pets since 2002.

We've been using CTAH since moving to P'ville 15 years ago. They have been attentive to all our pet's needs and very professional. The records they keep help us to remember what is needed. I have recommended to numerous friends and recommend to all that are reading this review.

I have 7 doggies and love the attention of the staff of the hospital. Everyone is always friendly and we are treated like family here. They GIVE back to the community by sponsoring many activities helping senior pets and rescues. I have been a client for over 3 years and would not take my babies anywhere else.

I have taken my dog to CTAH for 6 years. She gets excellent care, I have never been unhappy. I like that they have weekend hours since I work. I also board my pet when I travel and they call me if there is ever any problems. The reception staff has been there long term, is very knowledgeable
the prices are a bit on the high side in comparison to some of the other vets in Austin, but not as high as others. For major surgery it might be best to shop around

I only had my dog groomed there one time and it was one time too many. my poor dog came back covered in nicks and cuts, . This is a sign of dull blades and a careless groomer. I will never take my pet back for grooming. no animal should be tortured by that groomer!

If you read nothing else about this review, take from this that you should NEVER take your cat to be groomed at Central Texas Animal Hospital.\r
\r
I should start off by saying that I have been getting my cat groomed, with a lion cut, two times a summer for the past four years. Having moved to Texas this year, I needed to find a new groomer. I used citysearch and decided on Central Texas Animal Hospital based on all of the outstanding reviews. I have never received such poor quality of service for my cat. \r
\r
First off, he was terrified when I got him home (he has NEVER been like that after grooming). Secondly, his hair looked horrid. Truly horrible. The groomer, Janice, had cut-crookedly- all the way up to his head, leaving no fur for the mane (he now looks like a bobble head). His legs were all cut crooked with chunks of fur missing. There were also 15-20 nicks, where Janice had hit his skin with the shaver, along his back. His back legs were shaved down to the sensitive bones of his feet and he has had a hard time laying down even a day later. There were also chunks of fur all along his body that had been missed in the cut.\r
\r
I called and spoke to Janice the following day, and related all of this information to her. Her response was that she knew she had given him a bad cut, but it was also my cat's fault for getting upset. To quote her, ""you want a refund even though its not all my fault,? 'cause your cat is partly to blame."" Really? Now I don't know how old Janice is, but I assume she is a grown woman. An adult should not, in my opinion, blame her inability to do her job on a cat. I also called my cat's previous groomers who said that they would be willing to send a letter to the Central Texas Animal Hospital with my cat's perfect record of behavior on the multiple occasions that he was groomed at their facility. Janice only offered a 20 dollar refund of the 50 dollars I paid. So dissapointing. Meanwhile my cat looks like he cut his own hair and/or is diseased. NEVER take your cat here if you value your cash or the dignity and safety of your animal.

Everyone at CTAH is great! They're all caring and compassionate and really care about animals. I'm there often since I have 10 animals. I've been to all of the doctors, and they're all excellent. One unsung hero at CTAH is Janice, their groomer. She's worked there a long time and is very good at her job. My dog was groomed last week, and it made me stop to think that she needs a thank you. Her job can't be easy, dealing with dirty, stinky, matted (and some that absolutely don't want to be there) dogs and cats. Yet she does her job professionally and better than other groomers I've been to. I've taken a couple of my cats, long-haired and matted, for her to groom for the summer, sure they'd have to be sedated for her to shave. But no, she's done them without sedation and says she'd do them again, which I guess means they didn't go ballistic. And my little dog smelled so good and looked so beautiful when I picked him up last week. Thanks, Janice. Thanks to everyone at CTAH. You guys are like my second family.

Pros: Best animal hospital in town!

CTAH is the best! I've brought my pet's there for years and I'm amazed at how I and my pets are ALWAYS given the ROYAL treatment. Every person I see working there is pleasant and professional and it's nice that they've all been around for so long (they've watched my son grow up.) They seem to love what they do and that makes all the difference in the world.\r
\r
They are busy, but can usually get us in when we call. I've been in the office when the waiting area is totally full and the staff keeps humming along - it's amazing. \r
\r
I (or my pets!) have seen each of the vets there and they've all been great. I was impressed after our most recent visit when the Dr's tech called me at home to see if ""Angel"" was improving and if I was able to give her pills without too much trouble. \r
\r
It's my pleasure to recommend Central Texas Animal Hospital to anyone looking for great vets for their furry friends!\r

I (or my pets!) have seen each of the vets there and they've all been great. I was impressed after our most recent visit when the Dr's tech called me at home to see if ""Angel"" was improving and if I was able to give her pills without too much trouble. \r

It's my pleasure to recommend Central Texas Animal Hospital to anyone looking for great vets for their furry friends!\r

I recently went to this vet clinic on the recommendation of a colleague. My family recently moved here and have several pets. \r
My older cat had been sick for a while and we'd been taking him to our vet in Dallas for kidney problems. He went downhill fast after our move. My wife and I knew that it was time to have him put to sleep. I've never had to do this before, so I wasn't sure how to go about it. I made the call to Central Texas Animal Hospital and the lady on the phone was so helpful - really professional and caring. She explained our options (cremation, etc) and scheduled our appointment. \r
My wife and I met with Dr. Modak and he was so great with our cat. After examining him, he explained what would happen and assured us that we were doing the right thing. The receptionist had us fill out a form and let us pay our bill in the exam room (my wife was quite upset) so we didn't have to stand up front with other people coming and going. She also gave us some pointers to help our kids deal with the loss of their pet and offered to loan us some children's books.\r
Everyone up there helped to make this unpleasant experience a little more bearable. I will definitely be bringing the rest of my pets there and I will recommend them to others. -David\r

Rest assured, there will always be someone who has a different opinion. However based on 19 years of experience with Dr. Neans, he is THE best. He has the amazing ability to accurately diagnose a problem with my dog in less than a minute without testing. His experience makes him superior. The staff: Cathy, Vicki, Michelle, to name a few, are also high caliber. It?s true the building is small and somewhat outdated. But if it?s the care of your animal that is the concern, this clinic is the best by any standard. I read a review complaining about the price of care involving Dr. Banks and her advise of continued care. Keep in mind, there are 2 sides to every story. Through the years I have spent many thousands of dollars at CTAH as I have multiple dogs, all rescued and with health issues. However, having said that, the usual cost of exam and any associated lab fees is by far less than any other vet. Since I moved out of Pflugerville I briefly researched going to a facility closer to my home. This idea was dismissed when I came to my senses! Admittedly though, I did compare prices and CTAH is approx. 20-25% less than others in terms of vaccinations, exams, lab, Xrays and dentals. These people care about animals and are competent which, in my opinion, trumps all. I will be really sad when the day comes that Dr Neans retires, however he has set the expectation on the care delivered at his clinic. ?Debbie H

Being a senior citizen on a fixed income, I called several vets to get their charges on vaccinations for my two little dogs. I chose this clinic because they appeared to be reasonable in their charges. However, when I went in to pick up my dogs, the charges were double the amount quoted to me on the phone. They added additional services that was not quoted on the telephone when I called them for prices on standard vaccinations. What choice did I have but to pay the bill and take my babies home. I had also requested estimates on teeth cleaning and cherry eye surgery and I found the estimate to be way out of my price range. I will not use this clinic again because they did not give me the correct quotes and I found their prices to high for me to pay.

my dog was ill, so I took her into the vet and DR BANKS saw her and said that it was an infected tooth, and gave her some pain meds and antibiotics to hold her over until we can get her tooth fix, we had brought in our own xrays of my dog so she could see them, and she suggested that we pay $60 to have a radiologist review them to see if there is anything she was missing. so then I realize that she only gave me 4 days worth of pain pills for my dog, I thought this was a mistake so I call up there and was told I need to buy 4 more pills at $22 ( and they are only 1/2 pills, so 2 full pills $22, crazy, but I paid it) so then I set her for her blod work and teeth cleaning on Monday, I can see that her tooth is really bothering her so I try to get her in on Friday, but they could not do it, but they could do her blod work , I said I was going to try to find a vet that could do both at the same day because my dog gets very stresses going to the vet. So I did find a dr that could do both, and i take her in for her blod work,(which all came back normal) and they could not do her teeth until later in the afternoon, so I brought my dog home until she could be seen so she was not stressed out. So then the vet that could see my dog calls CENTRAL TEXAS ANIMAL HOSPITAL to get the records from DR BANKS. And DR BANKS tells the new vet that NO she recommends that I go see a specialists and not to do my dogs teeth. KEEP IN MIND DR BANKS HAD ALREADY SET AN APP FOR MY DOGS TEETH TO GET DONE BY HER THE SAME MORNING!!! so now its Fri. afternoon, my dog is still in pain because DR BANKS is so greedy that she would rather my dog go untreated then to a different vet!! NEVER AGAIN WILL I GO TO THIS DR!!!!
