I love Fantasy Cakes. Both the cake and icing are delicious. The cake is dense, moist and just the right flavor. The icing is amazing-the best buttercream icing that my family has ever tasted, and we've tasted alot! Buttercream icing is our favorite! The decorating is lovely. The owner and other employees are gracious and want to design and provide just what the customer is looking for. I rate this business as a five star bakery.

We purchased our daughter's wedding cake at Fantasy Cakes and could not have been happier with the result, including the quality of the cake and the service we received. They went out of their way to make our special day even more special. I can't thank them enough for everything they did for our family. I highly recommend this fine bakery to anyone seeking the best and nothing but the best in product and service.

I have ordered cakes from Fantasy Cakes for most of my kids birthdays and I must say that not only are they very creative but their cakes are also delicious. They have designed anything from Belle's castle to Dora's house all in 3 dimensional shape. In the past 7 years I have never had a bad customer experience so without another thought, I give 5 stars to Fantasy Cakes!!!

I'm sure their cakes taste delicious, however, their customer services is terrible. I found them extremeley rude and not very helpful. The store is located in a strip mall with non-descript signage. When trying to find their location, I called 3 seperate times with the line busy all 3 times. Due to not being able to find the store nor being able to get through on their line, I arrived 8 minute late for a cake tasting I was told to sit and wait; I waited over 25 minutes (there was no one in the store). When I told them I would just come back another time, the owner came out with her hands on her hips and said "You were lat, I'm very busy and I'm having troubles with our phone lines." Nice. They would never have my business with that attitude.

I have used them many times and have always been pleased. The staff is helpful and the bakers are talented. They can copy from Wilton's Cake Decorating magazines or given a free hand are very creative. One of my sons is a real monkey and we gave him a Cypress Valley Canopy Tour for his birthday. They created a colorful jungle scene out of tasty icing: monkeys with bananas swinging on vines through treetops. It garnered many Ooohs and Aaahs. I have also seen equally creative cakes other people have picked up. While the cakes are moist & good, they are basically box cakes. Their genius is in the decorating. The price is reasonable, but their reputation is getting around and they need more advanced notice than other bakeries, so allow for plenty of lead time when scheduling.

Fantasy Cakes came as quite a surprise to me. I work at a nearby elementary school and when someone recommended them, I figured it was because it was nearby (its in a little strip mall and doesn't look impressive at all from outside.)
But I was wrong... they recommended them because their cakes are REALLY good! Whenever we have a faculty celebration, we get a great big cake from them. Not only is there plenty to serve us all, but they are beautifully decorated and really yummy! :)

PROS: NIce designs, great fresh taste, good prices
CONS:

This place is awesome! I went in looking for a birthday cake for my sister recently and the selection was amazing. I was able to find the perfect cake (with buttercream icing, her favorite), the staff was ready to help and very professional. I'll be going back, they know how to treat people and that's an important factor when I'm spending my money. Oh, and the cake was the best I've ever had.

PROS: Helpful, great selection, best cakes around!
CONS: none

I am so sad to say that a good tasting cake is about all this bakery offers. Unfortunately, when I paid a lot of money for a professional cake with a great presentation, you can imagine how shocked I was to receive a damaged cake.

I went to pick up the cake for my sister's 40th birthday and the cake had cracks running all through the icing. I was completely shocked. When I asked about the cracks, the manager was called from the back, but all she could offer was an explanation of how the butter cream frosting works when it dries...it cracks!!! As I stood there in amazement thinking 'is this really happening?' I, also, was thinking that there's obviously a disconnect...'I am not communicating clearly.' So, again, I calmly and professionally brought up that the cake was damaged with cracks all over it. The manager, once again, explained that the icing cracks. Hello....I thought I was getting a professional cake. For some reason, the manager thought that the cake was acceptable with the obvious cracks all over it. Getting absolutely no where, she never offered me a reimbursement of any amount for my damaged prepaid cake and her only solutions were to add more decorations to cover the cracks or leave it.

With all that said, this is not a professional level of quality bakery. They have no problem providing a cake with obvious flaws.

On the bright side, the cake did taste good. After a few drinks, the jokes were flying about the cracks in the cake. But when I pay for a professional job, I expect it. I can no longer purchase any more cakes from this bakery.

Pros: tasted really fresh and good

Cons: cake had cracks all over the icing; not professional

I cannot find words for my reaction when I saw the wedding cake Fantasy Cakes created for my wedding. The scrollwork was amazing, and the green hydrangea was stunning on both the bride and the groom cakes. I could never have imagined how glorious the color and design would look with the interior of the main room at Laguna Gloria (and I thought it would look great). But the best part was that it was utterly, utterly delicious. The frosting was so decadent. The cake itself was freshly baked and perfectly moist.

So many of our guests made a point of telling my husband, my mother, and me how much they loved the cakes, especially the bride's cake. In fact, the cakes were so good, no one really mentioned the dinner, which the caterer and I had spent a lot of time planning. Julie and Heike were delightful to work with. They made me two sample cakes when I first met with them, and when I asked her for a fork for "the road," Julie advised me to wait until I got home to relax and taste them. Well, I got to the exit to their parking lot before I had stuck my fingers into the sample bride's cake and was eating it out of my hand like a raccoon would. Delicious.

After the wedding, the groom and I took the six huge boxes of leftover food from dinner and gave them to a homeless man on a bench on S. Congress on our way back to our hotel, but we refused to share the cake. We took the top (which we were supposed to put in the freezer and save for a year, I think) of the cake into our honeymoon suite and ate half of it. With our hands. Classy, right?

Pros: amazing wedding cake says it all

Cons: none

As soon as I got home, the fondant bow was all cracked and falling apart. I called the bakery but it was closed. No wonder they had me come in at closing time to pick up the cake. As I picked up my cake, something did not seem right with the bow. But a lady by the name of Eloise said it was perfect. Stupid me took her word and since it was nicely wrapped in a box with saranwrap and tape, I didn't want to take it apart. Well I should have and maybe the problem would have been taken care of. Now I have to show up to my daughter's birthday party with a destroyed cake. Never again will I buy another cake from such place and I will make sure to let the word out.

Pros: None whatsoever!!

Cons: Their decorating was extremely poor!

The shop used to be hidden in a small strip mall way down Sam Bass.
Clients wrote in reviews the shop is hard to find. After several attempts to get the address corrected on City Search it still shows the wrong address. NEW ADDRESS: 1100 Sam Bass, STE 102, Round Rock.
The shop has moved and is now right off I35 on Sam Bass in the Sam Bass Market Center. Just over the train tracks heading West on Sam Bass. If you check the Fantasy Cakes profile on Bigdaysmallworld or Austinbirthdays you will find the correct address to map it. FC have their own guestbook on Fantasycakesroundrock as well. Enjoy their cakes, made with real eggs and baked fresh.

Pros: Close to I35 now after the move

Cons: Parking is in the back of shop but their staff happily assists

We don't normally recommend places but Fantasy Cakes really came through for us at our daughter's recent wedding. Their staff helped us so much and we just wanted to thank them publicly. The quality of the two cakes we ordered could not have been better! We highly recommend Fantasy Cakes if you want the very best.. We will not go anywhere else for our deserts.

Pros: 2 Thumbs UP

Cons: None

I just recently found oyt that fantasy cakes is not owned by Robin and Shelby any more. It is under new owner ship. i highly recommend not using fantasy cakes. They are the rudest people you will ever meet they dont care about the customer at all. the cakes look horrible and the disgusting. The new owner is very rude herself and does not know how to run a business. You might as well go to a grocery store if you want that type of cake. I will never use fantasy cakes again. it is just not the same since Shelby and Robin left. And i would advise you to not it either. Why would you wanna spend a lot of money on something that look and taste bad and then have to put up with a bunch of rude people that act like they dont care what you want and act like it is a big deal if you want a original its what they are in business for..is to make the cakes that people want not just a cake that looks like its from a grocery store. I would highly advise not to use them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pros: Nothing at all

Cons: whats not wrong with them

This place does have great cakes. It is also prime time graduation and wedding season for them. I have ordered from Fantasy Cakes for many years and understand that is a very busy time for them. I called and could not get a cake either, but it was due to lack of prior planning on my part. Does not mean that it is a bad place, and I will go back.

As in everyday world, things change and in peak season of cakes, deadlines do also.

Pros: Great cakes- I have had great adivce and suggestions from the staff.

Cons: Book early so you have spot, they book up quick!

I refused to EVER go back to Fantasy Cakes. However, I got a little behind on my daughter's birthday and knew I could go into Fantasy w/a few days notice. I was dreading it. I walked in and was pleasantly surprised by a young, sweet girl. She was so friendly. They are usually so rude, I couldn't stand it. I gave a picture of how I wanted the cake to look for my daughter's spa birthday party. It did have some fondant flowers and a bow. They typically would argue with me a little...no arguing today. When I went in to pick up my cake, I was so pleasantly surprised with the results. It looked JUST like the pic. It was beautiful. The lady that handed me the cake was so sweet. Now, keep in mind, it had been over a year and a half since I had been in Fantasy. So I asked the lady, "are you under new ownership?" Something just felt different about the whole atmosphere. She said yes, they were. They are also in a new really nice location. To top it off, the cake was WONERFUL!!! I would HIGHLY recommend them. We will be back for all of our cakes!!! Thanks Fantasy!!!

Pros: Great customer service, beautiful cakes, taste great

Cons: None

Julie, the owner, requested a photo of the pirate ship birthday cake our granddaughter wanted. When
we picked up the cake, 3-14-08, it was exactly like the photo. The cake was chocolate and vanilla layers;
wonderfully moist, and the frosting was not too sweet. After the birthday party, only a tiny square was
left! We highly recommend Fantasy Cakes.

Pros: Fantastic cakes, friendly service, great value

Cons: Difficult to find

I have bought cakes twice at Fantasy Cakes. Each time the cakes were moist and delicious. We were amazed at how they were able to recreate our design in such an artistic way. The customer service was friendly and helpful. The cakes were also very reasonably priced. I will definetly continue to buy cakes there in the future. I highly recommended this cake store.

Pros: Delicious cakes, excellent designs

August 28, 2007

Let me start by saying that Fantasy Cakes makes really moist and delicious cakes. Which is why it is so unfortunate that they don't care about their customers. Not once, but twice, I have received the WORST customer service of my life at this place. I was hoping it was just a fluke, or an off day, but the second time just confirmed that they really don't know the first thing about customers. The first time, they completely messed up the flavors and filling of the cake even though it was clearly printed on the order form and I had called to double check before the cake was made. When I called them to let them know they had made a mistake, they told me that I had ordered exactly what I made! I had the copy of the order form that they wrote and they still refused to acknowledge that they had made a mistake or refund any money! Against my better judgement we ordered cupcakes from them for a party. They made me go and buy my own sprinkles to put on the cupcakes and then they only used about two sprinkles per cupcake. When I went to pick them up and I opened the box, they looked horrible. I guess they don't color their frosting, they airbrush and whomever had airbrushed my cupcakes basically went over them once, so they barely had any color and it was more colored on one side than the other. When I told them that they were not exactly what I had in mind, they just looked at me like they could have cared less. The owner refused to come out, so this poor girl at the counter, who looked to be about 12 just stood there. You have to prepay, so I couldn't really do anything except take these cupcakes. We ended up throwing them away because not only did they look awful, but they were very dry and stale. That was the last time I even thought about ordering from them. When they get things right, their cakes are very good, BUT when they get things wrong, they will blame you and then hide in the back of the store. So beware!!!!!

Pros: Tasty cakes when they get it right

Cons: horrible customer service

Based off of web reviews, I decided to check out Fantasy Cakes. I purchased a chocolate cake with buttercream icing for my son's first birthday back in March. We had a certain design in mind and it came out beautifully! We had to get the cake an extra day in advance and I followed their handling directions and it was like the cake had been baked that day! It was moist, great flavor and the buttercream icing held up wonderfully. The dye in the icing maintained it's color which doesn't always happen when you have to refrigerate a cake. I will go to them for cakes for as long as they are in business. What makes this such a great experience is that it's a family run operation and you get the BEST customer service. Fantasy Cakes is rockin' in Round Rock!

I tried Fastasy Cakes because of the reviews on this site. The reviews were on the money! I ordered the marble cake with chocolate buttercream icing two weeks ago and I'm still getting e-mails and phone calls from friends asking where I got the cake. The cake was beautiful, delicious and reasonably priced.

May 16, 2006

I can not even tell you how many times we have bought cakes here. We have gotten Birthday Cakes, Baby Shower Cakes, you name it. Everytime I describe how I would like the design to look (whether it is from a party napkin, plate, or whatever) and they get it exactly right or even better!! Our favorite flavor is the marble cake. And their prices are so much better than other "specialty" cake shops. Yea-grocery stores may be cheaper, but you don't get the fabulous decoration work, or the buttercream frosting!! YUM!!

Pros: Friendly, Great Decorations, Great Service

Cons: Call ahead of time, b/c they stay busy

October 08, 2005

We went to Fantasy Cakes for my son's birthday cake, because none of the grocery stores carry his theme. Great job, well worth the money, and the size fed exactly the number of people that they said it would. While we were in there we saw a dragon cake that was phenomenal - the cake was actually in the shape of a dragon and it was beautiful.

Pros: Great Selection, Incredible Cakes

Cons: Pricy but competetive

June 06, 2002

Fantasy Cakes has the best cakes I have ever tasted. The art work they put on the cakes is out of this world. Everytime I think they can't do it again they have something better then the last and more original then the time before. I think these ladies can do anything!!! If you have sometning special in mind give them a call they have probably already did it or know what you want....

Pros: Great taste, any design, Value !Value! Value!!
