If you're tired of the ultra hip, modern and stuffy salons, look no further than Doug's Barber Shop. Located in the Heights, this an old fashion barber shop complete with barber pole and neighborhood charm. Coming here doesn't necessarily mean you're going to get an old fashioned hair cut though, these guys are very experienced and can cut it as hip as you like. There services don't stop at hair cuts...here you can also enjoy a straight razor shave - old world style ( if you haven't had one you're in for a treat ) or a deep shine on your shoes! This place is very affordable and great for kids too. Insider info: This was the barber used as "Bert's" barber shop in the movie Rushmore! Come check it out for a great experience.

Inconsistent Attitudes  1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

I was just in this barber shop yesterday (8/01/08) and was treated un-professionally. Doug is usually the one to cut my hair, but as usual he was on a two week vacation. (seems to be gone alot) The others are not as friendly as Doug. Yesterday as I went into the shop and asked if Doug was available, I was told very short abruptly that he was on vacation. I told Richard I would wait for him and in a mean tone of voice said he was leaving for the day in thirty minutes. It was only 3:25pm at that time. The only customers in the place was a small kid in Richard's chair and one man in Sean's chair and no one else. What has happened to good customer service? I will find another barber that appreciates my business.

NOT baby friendly  2 Star Rating - Wouldn't recommend

I took my son there for his 1st haircut b/c I had heard it was a good place. They were pretty unfriendly and I felt unwelcomed. Sean cut his hair and did a good job, but made it clear he didnt like doing it. My son behaved really well too, but I guess he just doesnt want to deal with babies. So, take your kids elsewhere.

A cherished memory. 5 Star Rating - World class

This place is something out of a Norman Rockwell painting. That is until you walk in the joint! I don't think anything in the place was made after 1952! Every nook and cranny is stuffed with with some americana relic.

The staff is eclectic as the decor! My favorite is the brooding giant in the second chair with pechant for punk rock and social justice issues! Out of the 15 times or so I've been there he's never uttered a word to me! he just yells at the television as he cuts my hair. aside from his anti-social personality he's top notch! and you'll be lucky if it takes him more than 10 minutes to finish the job.

Pros: Great looking cuts
Cons: Don't think he likes his job

Perhaps the best $10 you will ever spend 5 Star Rating - World class

Like many people I am not finicky about my hair, however I am by no means apathetic. A good haircut to me is crafted in such a way that it will continue to look good until such a time as I need another. And a great haircut means I will return to get one just like it. Doug's is the new home to this routine. This place has every bit of charm to legitimize it as a great barber shop. Plus, the second you sit down, you know you are in skilled hands. I can't remember the last time I had a haircut for $10, especially one that looked this great. The neighborhood is friendly and a welcome change from the garish salons that you might normally have to endure to get a simple haircut from a highly competent cutter.

Pros: Price, location, staff, atmosphere, history
Cons: None whatsoever

"The" barber shop of Houston's Heights 5 Star Rating - World class

Welcome to you new bi-monthly or weekly stop for a proper haircut. The old world charm coupled with experienced barbers make this establishment the best place for a haircut anywhere in Houston. The staff were friendly and while I was having my hair cut by an older gentleman that clearly takes immense pride in his work, two sets of little boys with their Mothers came in for what looked like their first Summer haircut. Yes, they had several toys to play with while they waited for their spin in the chair. With Mother's eye trained on every cut the barber made, even the seasoned professional would have shivering in their pants, but not these guys. They are top notch and pardon the pun, "a cut above the rest".

So if you're in the Heights and you need a good place to get a great haircut, swing by Doug's Barber Shop for what is sure to be your new barber for many years to come. - Alex Miller

Old Fashion Barber Shop 5 Star Rating - World class

Very good place, located in the heights it has the old neighborhood feel. Very quick and good quality. Highly reccommend. They are open a little bit later for individuals getting off work and are reasonably priced at 10$/haircut. The atmosphere looks like it has been around for 50 years.

Pros: Quick, Price, People, walk-in service
