In Short
Cream-colored tablecloths offset mahogany walls in an homage to restraint. Exposed brick, gas lamps and displays of cognac and cigars add to the substantial ambience. Whipped garlic butter melts onto pieces of crusty, hot sourdough. The Atkins Sampler offers filet mignon, Kobe sirloin and rib eye, along with broccoli bearnaise. Honey-glazed pork chops come with an onion reduction so sweet, it's almost applesauce. The white chocolate-macadamia nut bread pudding is a popular dessert.

Key Points

  • "D-Best" in D Mag since 1998.
  • DFWs Highest rated Independent
  • Nationally Recognized

The Inside Scoop

  1. Save Money - Splurge on the meat and split the salads--they're huge and delicious.
  2. Where to Sit - Cigar aficionados will love the bar, which offers 18 fine cigars, or the private cigar room.

Chamberlain's Steak and Chop House

by Vicky C. | insider Insider | Rank: 21,168

This has always been one of our all time favorite steak houses, and we have never been disappointed with the quality of the food and the excellent staff. Steaks are perfection and sooo tasty. Don't leave without ordering the Creme Brulee for dessert.

Very Excellent Service and Really Good Food

by Paulla J. | insider Insider | Rank: 13,874

A holiday dinner for 24 at Chamberlains. Everything was near-perfect. The menu, the food, the service was really very nice for a group that large and demanding. I ate there again recently and had another excellent meal.

Chamberlain's - the perfect restaurant for two - or a group

by Paula J. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 431

Chamberlain's is a great place to have a nice steak dinner whether it is a romantic dinner for two or a fun evening out with a group. They are very consistant with high quality food and service. Makes it a delight to visit time after time after time. The steaks are great - and their cream spinach is the best there is!

Great Stak House

by Bill H. | top100 Top100 | Rank: 92

Chamberlains can compete with the best of them as far as a good steak goes. for a special night out on the town you can't go wrong coming here. The food is presented nicely, cooked to order and sufficient. A bit pricey but once in a while its a nice to splurge.

Great Food and Service

by Tim B. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,086

This is one of the finest steakhouses in Dallas (comparable to 3 forks, Del Friscos, etc.). The service is very good, and the steaks and other options are great. The have a fantastic wine list. The prices are moderatly expensive, but are in line with the other top end steakhouses. My wife and I go there often, and we recommend this place.

Great Birthday Treat - Fabulous Steakhouse

by Dallasite

My boyfriend and I dined here to celebrate his birthday last evening. I chose this place after reading many reviews of other similarly priced "it" steakhouses in our area. We were not disappointed with this choice. Other than the rude, unwelcoming hostess, about whom I can only assume was having a bad night prior to our arrival, the experience was phenomenal - the crab cake and slaw were a perfect beginning, the steak was juicy and well-cooked, the tuna was rare and fresh, the mashed potatoes and green beans were simply "done right," and the creme brulee our fabulous waiter brought us as a special birthday treat was a great way to end the night. The ambiance was wonderful - we never felt rushed and simply relaxed - and the other patrons in the restaurant obviously had similar experiences as many were there before we arrived and were still there dining and drinking as we left. This is a great, romantic place for special evening.

Pros: Knowledgeable Waitstaff, Fresh Meat, Wonderful Atmosphere

Cons: The hostess was incredibly rude - she was the only "con."

Best Steakhouse in DFW

by dudekgirl01

Every server we've had has been wonderful, the crab cakes are EXQUISITE. The creamed corn with bacon is a little pricey, but a side worth ordering. And I HIGHLY recommend going any time they offer a special menu for restaurant week, or some other unique occasion, because the specials they introduce are out of this world!!

I CANNOT say enough wonderful things about this place: food and service is WELL worth the price!!

Pros: Excellent service, stellar food

Cons: None! This place is perfection!!

Great Steak! Great Service! Great Night!

by bbowner

Our reservation noted that it was our anniversary and our first time to Chamberlains, and the staff knew it upon our arrival. We were escorted to a corner quiet booth with complimentary champagne to make our anniverary even more special. Our goat cheese & spinach salad and BLT salad were fresh with well seasoned dressing, and the bread is to die for served with garlic butter! Wine by the glass is very reasonable, and our server was attentive and made wonderful suggestions. The T-Bone and bone-in ribeye were the best steaks that we have had in a long time. Huge portions, cooked to perfection, and rich flavor! Both manager and owners came by to wish us a happy anniversary and to make sure we did not want for anything! Best dining experience in years!

Pros: Attention to Detail - Food & Service!

Cons: No Room left for Dessert

very fatty steak

by oj08

We visited Chamberlain's with another couple on a Friday night. The atmosphere was nice very upscale. We decided to go to dinner here after seeing them on citysearch and with all of the good reviews thought they were worth a visit. How dissapointed we were. They were very pricy which I have no problem paying if the food is right. We got two crabcakes which were not very tasty for the crazy price they were. I ordered a meal that had a little of 3 different types of meat sirloin, filet and ribeye. Mine was not that bad but my boyfriend ordered the ribeye and had asked it to be cooked med well. When it came out it was very undercooked so he had asked the waitress to have it cooked more. When she brought it back it still was very bloody and it had so much grizzle on it --it was disgusting. He tried a few bites and could not even eat it. I believe it was $30 and we could have made a better ribeye at home. I understand a ribeye has grizzle but this was over the top. I do have to say that the waitress did try to make it better by surprising us with a dessert tray that was worth $40 that was very tasty. But we would not go back since it just was not worth the money. Saltgrass has a better steak than this place.

Pros: nice atmosphere

Cons: not worth the money

Best Steak!!

by BethG01

My husband and I just recently dined at Chamberlain's and I am not much of a steak eater but I decided to try the "peppered filet". WOW! It was amazing - the BEST steak I have ever had and they cooked it just perfect! I can not wait to go back and I am going to order the exact same thing! I would definitely recommend Chamberlain's to all of my friends and family. It is an upscale restaurant where you feel relaxed and comfortable and the staff is so gracious and welcoming. Chamberlain?s is my new FAVORITE restaurant!

Pros: Food & Service

Simply Fabulous

by RandiRQ

My husband and I have been coming here since 1995 - we love the combination of yummy food, caring (but not overly-friendly) waitstaff, and elegant, masculine surroundings. The first time I ordered my ribeye almost raw, Chef Chamberlain checked on me himself to be sure I was really happy with my order, and his thoughtfulness brought us back. My husband also loves the lamb and pork chops here - big portions, very tender and flavorful. I'm just a red meat girl and adore the filets - even almost raw, they melt in my mouth. The Caesar salad has a delicious dressing that has just enough garlic and anchovy without overpowering. Chef's homemade worchestershire sauce - spicy, a little hot, complex, yummy - is perfect with grilled, meaty portabella mushrooms - one of my alltime favorite appetizers. Colossal shrimp are huge and always fresh - the homemade remoulade is a must - so good I lick my fingers! Love, love, love this place!!

Pros: Food, Service, Ambience, Valet, Clean Ladies Room

Cons: None

Great steaks, great ambience

by Nickylette

My husband took me to this restuarant on my birthday. The ambience was cozy with chatter from other patrons who clearly seemed to be enjoying their meals too. My steak, a filet mignon, was cooked perfectly as ordered. The sides complemented the entrees well and were well presented. My overall experience was superb. I have a workmate whose boss took him and his whole team there and he just could not stop talking about his prime rib. He had never been to a place like that and just told anyone who would listen about this great steakhouse. Way to go!

Pros: Food quality, ambience and service

Cons: Parking (wasn't a problem when I went, but could potentially be a problem)

I can only imagine it better if it could be served on a platter on the sea on a 100 ft yacht! Really, this is a must try steak house for locals and tourists alike. A true steak house in all catagories for the white cloth taste. I love the atmosphere, the choice of meat cuts and the srevice is always supurb!

Pros: Fantastic service in a southern steak house with style

Great Place for Fantastic Food and Service!

by lucy1980

My colleagues and I looked into several of the local steak houses when in town for business this week. The decision was made due to the outstanding customer service on the phone. They were very accomodating and we were told they would love to have us dine with them! Once we arrived, we were promptly greeted. They acted as though they knew us! Our server came to our table immediately. A nice surprise since the place was packed! All the food we ordered was perfectly prepared and incredible! We especially loved the Bone In Prime Filet. The server suggested a wine perfectly suited to the steak. It was the best meal we had all week long and will definitely be back when in town!

Pros: Great food and service

Cons: Not One!!

Great service and food!!!!!

by duece2

I took my wife to Chamberlain's Steak and Chop house last night and it was just perfect! We started with the appetizer combination. It was very cool! It had the largest shrimp I have ever seen, kobe beef dumplings and perfectly prepared ahi tuna. Then we took the waiters recommendation and ordered the Spinach salad with warm goat cheese. It was amazing and what a great combination of flavors. For our entrees I had the New York strip and my wife had the Sole. Her fish was really really good as I understand Chamberlains has the best seafood restaurant in the Dallas area just down the street. My steak was cooked to the perfect medium rare that I had ordered. The waiter had suggested a nice pinot noir to go with our food and it was a dead on match. The food was all great, but what really made the night special was how nice and efficient the staff was. From the person that took our reservation, to the hostess that met at the door and then our server was increadible. They all were just the best. That kind of customer service is hard to find these days. One of the owners even came by to make sure everything perfect for us as we were eating. I am going to make reservations to take my brother there next week when he comes to visit. I can't wait.

Pros: Best service and food in Dallas

Cons: none

Best All Around

by Sara008

My new fiance and I just celebrated our engagement dinner at Chamberlain's Steak House and it was just perfect! I loved how romantic and cozy I felt there. If you are looking for a nice restaurant for a special occasion, this is just the place! First, the service was the best I've ever had. Our appetizer- kobe beef potstickers - was an excellent way to start. The salads were nothing short of fantastic as well. I had the goat cheese & spinach salad, my new favorite! As for entrees, the salmon was great because it was covered in a jumbo lump crabmeat sauce, and a huge portion also. The filet mignon came out cooked to perfection. It was extremely flavorful and juicy! For a great finish, we ordered the heavenly bread pudding. This was a great dinner and we can't wait to go back!

Pros: Everything

Cons: none!

Very Busy but Fantastic

by Lance1992

I did not expect so much business on a monday night. The hostess greeted and took us to our table on arriving. To our suprise, the server arrived about one minute later with fresh hot bread and an herb garlic butter. We ordered a nice bottle of Quintessa and loved the large wine glasses it was served in. After trying the largest shrimp cocktail I have ever seen, we enjoyed a bone in filet mignon and rib eye that were nicely charred on the outside and rosy red on the inside. The seasoning was perfect. Chef Chamberlain himself came by and ask how our food was. It was a Great experience. We will be back soon.

Pros: great food and service

Cons: none

Beware of the waitstaff and defensive management team

by David724

Chamberlain's puts out a great steak, but keep a cautious eye out for sales-pitchy waitstaff and potential dishonesty. I ordered one of the specials and negotiated with the waiter against the top priced Kobe steak.
Moreover, I was encouraged to order a bottle of the Chateau St. Jean 2004 Meritage for a nice price over a glass of Cab when I was offered to take the rest of the bottle home. After the wine had been recanted into the bottle for me to take home, it had changed in nature from a well structured Cab blend to features typical of a by-the-glass ethanolic red wine. I am not a wine critic, but either Chateau St. Jean's highly touted Cinq Cepages falls apart within 2 hours, or something fishy was going on.
If you want great steak, especially in Texas, I am sure there are many alternatives. The selection of rare steak cuts is definitely the reason to stop by Chamberlain's, but keep a mental note about what you really want from the experience, particularly if you are passing through on business, or just trust the Citysearch Editor's pick instead.

Pros: steak

Cons: service, management

Best Steakhouse in Dallas and beyond

by bethhuch

I feel so welcome everytime I walk into Chamberlain's with Richard Chamberlain very often being one of the first to visit my table. I get the same steak everytime I go and I always look forward to it like I looked forward to my birthday when I was a little girl. The apps rock as well. I do change my mind on those each visit. You can't go wrong at Chamberlains.

One of the Best Steakhouses in All of Texas

by m3initaly

What a memorable experience! It's a comfortable but high class restaurant with friendly service and outstanding food. The food is over-the-top good. I had a bone-in filet that was to die for. The potstickers were also a crowd-pleaser. They have an extensive wine list and great mixed drinks. After your meal, stop by the bar for more drinks and cigars. My favorite thing about this restaurant is that it's unique to Dallas, so I feel like I had an original experience that I couldn't have had in any other city.

Pros: Fabulous food. An original experience that you can't have in any other city

Great neighborhhod steak place

by cheers2norm

Doesn't feel like some of the Dallas steakhouses that cater to the convention guys. Very warm and wlecoming. Their steaks are always incredibly tender, flavorful and perfectly cooked. Serviec is always exceptionallly attentive and knowledgable. Like most steak places the wine list is a bit overpriced, but there are at least several moderately priced selections

Pros: service, consistently high quality beef

Cons: winelist overpriced

Great Service

by vacationmomma

Took our family for dinner last Sunday. What a great meal! From appetizers to dessert. Everything was fabulous. We ordered 3 desserts to share and they came on one very large platter decorated with all kinds of berries and sauces. Creme brulee in the middle. Key Lime Pie to die for.
Steaks to die for to. Cooked to perfection. My only complaint is that the servers removed plates as diners finish, rather than waiting until the table is done.
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal, but also wonderful personalized service.

Overwhelmed

by somerr03

My Fiance and I went to Chamberlian's for his company's anual Christmas party. We had a great time. The food was wonderful. I had the Kobe steak and would highly recommend trying it at least once. I would definately return to this location again...maybe in a more private setting. The mashed potatoes were not very good, they were sort of bland. If you go I would recommend trying another side besides the potatoes.

Pros: Food, ambiance

Cons: parking

Great steaks and service!

by florida_lany

Very good value for the food. Also, excellent service - my dining companion and I both ordered bailey's and coffee. He ordered his together, with whipped cream, while I opted for bailey's on the side. When his came out looking fantastic and the waiter noticed me eyeing it, he insisted that he take mine back and do it the same way! Great dining experience.

Keep Me Mooin'

by brianmillichamp

Gotta admit, I'm not the biggest red meat fan, but I've had plenty, and this place is excellent. Service was great (like that they don't bug you too much, and food delivery is timed to when you're ready), and a after-visit postcard was a nice touch. Garlic potatoes were a little too salty. Wine menu average. Steak was tender, tasty, and the temp that I requested!
