Be Wary of aggressive Sales Staff!

by Upaasna K.

This gym has a lot of good equipment. But their staff is awful. After I called asking for quotes on membership they hounded me several times to get me to come in. I told the sales woman that I was only going to be in town for the summer so wanted something short term. She instead convinces me that it will be cheaper to get a year long membership and then cancel it when I left. About 3 week Later I noted a sign outside advertising a substantially cheaper summer student discount.
Regardless, the biggest issue I encountered was when i attempted to cancel my membership at the end of the summer. When I called to cancel their staff was rude, inattentive and difficult with me. I finally decided to go into the location in person. The woman at the desk was the same, she spent 10 minutes chatting on the phone before attending to me, and when I told her what I needed she was immediately less friendly. She gave me the number of their bill processing company who again gave me the run around. Meanwhile they continued to Bill me.

Very disappointed.

Wide Variety of Equipment / Decent Gym

by Kurt Z.

Pros: Plenty of equipment for any level of workouts, normally not crowded during off-peak hours, gym members cover the entire spectrum so high comfort level for anybody from muscleheads to first-timers. Lots of classes offered. Price very reasonable. I joined before it officially opened a few years ago and only pay $26 a month (just raised from $21). Not sure of current rates.

Cons: During peak hours (5-7 pm, for example) not enough of the basic machines, some wait time--typical of any well-attended gym, however. Agree with other reviews on the staff. Don't expect much help on workout programs, advice, etc. beyond an initial orientation (if you can get that). It's much like the customer service at the discount stores. Class instructors work hard, but rest of staff is either focused on selling memberships, or standing up front in a group socializing. A prefunctory hello and goodbye is about all you can expect.

Overall, has everything you need to get in shape and the atmosphere is comfortable and not intimidating for the beginner or "casual' exerciser. Men's locker room is fine, equipment can get a bit sweaty but hell, it's a gym!

Workout Franchise Comes to Conroe

by Brandy B. | insider Insider | Rank: 24,752

I have been a member of Gold's Gym in Conroe before it opened in its new spacious building. The gym offers a variety of machines and classes to satisfy muscleheads and those trying to get and/or stay in shape. In addition to cardio, freeweight, and weight machine stations, the gym also offers a ladies only weight room and a group room where a myriad of classes are offered. The gym also comes equipped with full service bathrooms and a sauna. The only drawbacks to the gym is that the staff is semi-friendly (except for the ones who have been there since its inception), and I am still waiting to recieve some perks I was promised when I joined such as a traveling card and a free consultation with a personal trainer.

PROS: ladies only weight room, various group classes, multitude of machines
CONS: semi-friendly staff
