It was my first time getting a haircut at Catena's hair studio and having my experience there had me walking out relaxed. My hair stylist name was Amado, he helped me come together exactly what haircut I wanted. I loved smelling the aromas and I enjoyed every bit of massage from head to shoulder . I recommend anyone to come here for their first time and relax. Thank you Amado

Ok, so my skin wasn't that bad but the massage that Heather gave was amazing. My skin had a glow to it for days AND I didn't breakout afterward.Heather also gave me the lashes I should have been born with! Loooong, but still natural! The kit that comes with the full set of extensions really helps to maintain the life of my lashes!

I have been going to Catenas now for well over 4 years, and I love it. I have consistently seen Suzanne Fasano, and she is wonderful. She has a great personality and she is fun to talk to.

The staff at Catenas has always been nothing but professional and helpful.

The salon offers a wide array of service, and it's almost like a small World Market in there with all the neat items they have for sale!

I would highly recommend going there.

I wanted to say thanks, again, to Amado for doing such a great job on my hair / body wave. I had asked about products that have fewer toxic chemicals, and he went out of his way to get me a product with no ammonia or thio. At least I assume the "Chi" brand is free of those nasty things (I forgot to look at the bottles/ingredients).

I welcome the next opportunity for Amado to help me with my hair care needs, as he was also a pleasure to be around.

RE: my "cons": the owner of the salon said they would be more conscious of the fumes in the future.

All in all, I appreciate their staff, their location and their prices- which are comparable to others around town.

Pros: Cool guy, and I got great service.

Cons: Fumes inside were bad, but they said they'd address it.

Finding someone who could cut curly hair and not push product has been an on-going quest my entire life. I have always embraced my curls and my natural hair color. I found my holy grail in Senon. He gives a GREAT haircut. I can't even count how many compliments I get about my hair from colleagues and friends. The bonus to all of this is how he does not push product. If I ask him what he used, he tells me. If I am interested in buying, he sells it to me. No pressure. He is charming, personable, funny and really cares about his clients.

I lost a ton of weight through lap-band surgery last year. With all the hormonal changes, my straightish hair turned curly and I haven't known what on earth to do with it. I met with Amado?a new stylist to Catena's?and he walked me through what I should do on a daily basis. (Like, skip the shampoo half the time--who knew?!) Then he added a gorgeous, rich reddish brown and covered up my horns of grey at the front of my head. For the cut, he chunked it up and thinned out my Ronald McDonald effect.

I've waited a few weeks to post b/c I wanted to see how it played out in real life. I'm loving it and getting loads of compliments. All-around, he made it fun and bouncy, and it takes me about 5 minutes to do in the morning. I'll be back soon and feel thrilled to find someone who knows what the heck they're doing!

P.S. His shampoos are to die for! Make sure you request the full monty!!

I've been going to Catena's for close to 10 years and highly recommend it. As soon as you walk through the door of the charming old home that has been converted into a salon and spa you are greeted and made to feel welcome. While you're there you are surrounded by friendly professionals who obviously care not only about their clients and the service they provide but also about each other. You can't go wrong - give them a try!

I have been to a lot of salons in Austin and have to say that Bill at Catena's was exceptional! The salon is very cute and everyone is so nice. I had blondish brown hair with highlights with dark black roots and he did an amazing job touching up the roots and freshening up the highlights. He also cut my hair exactly how I wanted. I didn't want too much taken off and he said that he just cuts a little bit at first because it's easier to cut more if needed, but you can't sew it back on if you cut too much off! He is a very warm and friendly man with a down to earth small town personality! Welcome to Austin and thanks for the great service!

Before I went to Catena's I was getting average haircuts, cut the same old way. I went to Mary Ann and told her I wanted something easy and cute, she cut it, flipped my head upside down and went to work with the diffuser, and when I flipped back up, I had gorgeous curls. Best, I can do it at home on my own. Mary Ann calls them "savage" curls, and I can tell you, that's the first time I've been called "savage"! I love Mary Ann, she makes me smile.
Heather painstakingly and sweetly removed the largest heel callous known to man and made my hands and feet so soft, a miracle.

Pros: They listen to what you want, and then do it beautifully.

I?m talking about the testimonials and positive feedback that I was scanning through before my trip to Catena?s Hair Studio & Day Spa. I seriously thought that they were fake entries entered by the employees? and their family and friends, because they were waaaaay too positive. Not the norm, at least as I was accustomed to.

Quick background: I have wandered and searched for years, literally years, trying to find a salon in which I felt comfortable and wanted to return. A salon in which I, the customer, am valued (beyond my pocketbook), treated with respect, listened to and where my ideas are actually taken into consideration, to give me the look I would like.

Today, I found it.

My hair is long, curly, thick, and a bit coarse; challenging to manage to say the least. I was long overdue for a haircut and recently made the transition from flat-ironing it straight, to wearing it naturally curly every day. I found out real quick that I needed a good, quality cut and shaping, besides, I wanted movement and overall versatility.

In steps Bill.

Short story: Bill is absolutely wonderful!! Bill LISTENED to all of my concerns about my hair and paid attention to the description of what I?d like my hair to be able to do and look like. He asked questions and methodically and meticulously shaped my curls.

Part of my leeriness of salons is from having sat in the chair of too many ?scissor-happy? stylists with a vision of how THEY want my hair to look. More than once a ?trim? has turned into me losing 5-8 inches of length.)

I had to actually ask Bill to cut more off, but I felt safe, as if I could trust him with my locks and my hair turned out absolutely bee-utiful!!! And?I still had my length!

Other huge pluses: The owner came over, introduced herself and actually conversed with me. None of that pretentious stuff here either. (You can tell when people are faking it.) Ms. MaryAnn is so kind and her spirit exudes her love of people and a commitment to serving them, well.

Overall, the atmosphere at Catena's is service oriented, super friendly and welcoming. D?cor is nice and it just smells great in the salon! Michelle, the first face to welcome you, offers you a drink and other stylists acknowledge your presence and speak, even though you are in someone else?s chair. Details matter to me and I take note of everything.

So, believe me, ALL of the reviews are real, and they actually don?t do Catena?s Hair Studio & Day Spa justice.

They offer so much more.

Today Bill colored and cut my hair.
Sounds pretty average, right? It was anything but. You see, I have a serious sensitivity to some chemicals found in hair color products. And I wanted to take my naturally strawberry blonde hair to nearly black.

Bill listened to my experience. He consulted other members of the team. And together we created a plan to use as many precautions as possible to avoid getting chemicals on my scalp or ears.

As humans we all have a need to feel heard and listened to, if you are lacking that with your current stylist I highly recommend that you call Bill.

Oh, and my hair color and cut is great. Better than what I had ever expected.

As a college student, I have to be careful about how much money I'm spending, so the priciness of the studio is a con if you're after something more economical. Getting a quality job done on color and a great cut, however, is worth every penny spent. The salon itself is adorable, with quirky antique furniture and a chic eclectic feel. The hospitality is great, with comfortable chairs to wait in and free beverages if you're thirsty. All of that small stuff is just a tiny part of why I'm giving Catena an emphatic 5 stars. Shelley followed my directions perfectly in regards to the cut, taking off just the right amount and styling it expertly. The great cut and style served to showcase the AWESOME job she did on color. It's like she read my mind. Honestly. If you're looking for a stylist who can translate the rambling, vague color requests of a non-professional and turn them into a magazine-esque masterpiece, just give Shelley a call. I'm sure she'll fix you right up.

I have been several times to see Shelley for my hair and Heather for my eyebrows and facials. For me to repeat several times is a rarity. I haven't found anywhere else where I have felt so at ease and had such great results. I don't have easy hair, and Shelley has made me so proud of my blonde locks.

If you need to relax, get a facial with Heather. Do it now! So very restoring and your skin will glow.

If these ladies moved out of town, I'd be tempted to follow!

Catena's is a wonderful salon. I recently had a cut and color by Shelley and she is phenomenal. I love my hair! The cut was just what I needed to get my hair looking healthy and the color made such a difference. I feel great about my hair. Shelley really listened to what I wanted and it came out great. My entire experience with Catena's was so uplifting. Everyone was friendly and it all felt very comfortable. I have finally found my salon! Catena's and Shelley are a perfect fit.

I can honestly say that Shelley is a Hairstylist Extraordinaire! She listened to every concern and answered every question this nearly 50 year old woman had regarding an update of a current "do" and a complete change in color. While she was open to all my suggestions, she was careful not to let obsessive compulsive me go overboard and make a drastic change in one step. I really appreciated all her tips about hair care and choosing hair styles and the time she took in teaching me some styling tricks for my new cut. As a colorist, all I can say about Shelley is "Wow!" She took what I had in some pictures from a magazine and transformed it onto my hair and made the mark EXACTLY. Now that's talent! Kudos, Miss Shelley, I am SO pleased. Look forward to working with you in the future!

I was in need of a repair. I had a bad experience at a salon in Round Rock. I thought my color was suppose to be dark brown with a touch of red, though by the time my appnt was over I had orange hair.. I was referred to Mary Ann by a friend that I work with. I am forever in her debt. My experience at Catena's was abosolutely fabulous. Everyone was very polite, professional and personable. Mary Ann was great. She is very upbeat and took time to listen to my ideas and the pictures that I had. My color turned out perfect and the style was so cute. You won't be disappointed!

My story...
I have never really been to get my hair cut, its always been long and straight and I would trim it myself. Whenever I did try out a style or trim at a salon it was always miserable and uncomfortable. But I needed a change of pace and decide to do Locks of Love and cut most of it off. After reading some great reviews on Catena?s I decided to take the plunge. Shelley was/IS my stylist, and I love her! She was so sweet and friendly and made me feel so comfortable as soon as I sat in that once dreaded chair. We cut off 20? of hair to be donated to Locks for Love, it was thrilling for both of us. I had brought in a picture of Katie Holmes?s chin length bob with side swiping bangs and we discussed the cut on me and my needs (I?m LAZY, and don?t like to do much work on my hair). She listened to everything I said and was very careful about the length...and then... after a lovely chat, some snipping here and shaving there, I had just the cut and style I wanted. Shelley did such an amazing job, my hair fell perfectly with her styling, making my life so easy. I have had so many complements on my hair and now both my mom and sister are patrons of Catena?s.

Update...
I have been back once more to Catena?s since my first cut and Shelley did just as an amazing job as the first go around!

I'm new to Austin and as most college students, had to find a place to get my hair cut well. I did some digging online and read rave reviews of the people at Catena's that convinced me to go. The women I met lived up to all the praise about how warm, hospitable, professional, and kind Catena's was. My hair was cut by Shelley and she was great. A sweet, cool, loving girl...talked to me like I was not a client but a new acquaintance. I talked to the owner briefly and she was charming. It may not seem it, but this is all very important. Life is beautiful and spending it with people who are exuding that idea is worth every penny. Those are the people I want to support with my time and business.

My haircut was great! I enjoyed it and it looks fantastic. I was going in and took a reference picture for Shelley to see how I wanted my layers, she pretty much captured the type of cut I wanted. With a smile, conversation, and lots of compliments.

Great place. I'll be going back. It's a little pricey for me, but hey...gotta water the flowers if you want them to keep growing.

Everyone here is very friendly and professional. Shelley was my stylist and she is very sweet. My only negative feedback is that I wish she had listened to me a little more closely about what I wanted. I said I didn't want my shortest layer to be too short because I often wear my hair back and didn't want it falling in my face. Unfortunately she did cut it much shorter than I wanted and 6 weeks later, it's still constantly in my face. I know Shelley guarantees her work and I'm sure if I went back to her she'd try to correct it, but at this point, my hair just needs to grow out. I think she's very talented, but wish she'd just listened to what I wanted a bit more closely. Other than that, a very nice salon with sweet, personable staff.

Wow! I had the most magnificent experience from beginning to end. I just moved here and even drove 15 miles to go to a place I had never heard of or seen before other than the extensive research I had done online. I lived in South Texas for 20 years, and I was so afraid of being able to find a truly experienced, knowledgable hair stylist! Thank God for Catena's! The phone conversation to set up the appt. to leaving the salon was delightful! Very courteous, pleasant and kind staff! I felt like I had been going there for a long time! Very inviting! Shelli did exactly what I wanted with my hair, and she listened first to what I had and what I wanted. We discussed it, and she did a magnificent job on my hair! She is #1 in my book! I am ultra picky about my hair, and all of my concerns were heard and alleviated as evidenced by the final product! This is truly the place I will recommend to all that I come to know and meet! Other services are provided as well, and each person is a professional and very knowledgable in their field. Heather also did a magnificent job waxing the areas I needed and brought my eyelashes to a whole new level! THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO FOR ANY/ALL HAIR, FACIAL NEEDS! The owner greeted me, spoke with me during my visit and thanked me on my way out. NOW THAT'S PROFESSIONALISM, DEDICATION AND COURTESY! I was a part of a bridal party that Catena's kindly hosted for a day. Shelley styled my hair and I decided to make an appointment for the next day to get color. I was so impressed with the way she colored and styled my hair I knew immediately I'd be returning to the salon. I live in Florida... I will definitely stop into Catena's studio every time I visit Austin even if it's to just say hi to the staff. Thank you guys for such a wonderful experience!

Catena's provided the hair and make up services for our wedding day and made every detail special. The salon coordinator Michelle made sure everything was scheduled and set up for us to make the day run smoothly and stress free. Since we had a group of about 10 getting our hair and make up done they set up a special private room compete with a ice bucket and flowers that we were able to have food and drinks in while waiting between everyones services. We had 3 different stylist and everyone's hair and make up turned out Amazing! Shelley did my hair and make up and spent extra special time to make sure that every inch of my hair and make up was done to my satisfaction and that I was comfortable. Mary Ann the owner is one of the nicest people I have met and was involved in the entire thing making sure that we felt like we were at home! Thank you Shelley and Catena's!!!

Having moved to the area I was looking for a hair stylist I could rely on. Shelley is great with getting the color and cut the way I like it. I even brought in a photo for the cut and she had no problem with this. She has good recommendations whenever I have a new thought. It's also a really enjoyable place to spend a few hours.

I recently moved to Austin and needed to find a local hairdresser since my former stylist is 5 hours away. I went to Catena's on a friend's recommendation and Shelley did my hair. Let me tell you, she is awesome! Young, hip and completely talented. I'm sure all the other stylists are great too, but I'm definitely going back to Shelley. She cut my hair exactly the way I wanted it and it looks great. The salon is located just south of MLK and is very close to the Guadalupe (the drag) area around UT. It's quaint and homey and easy to find. Parking is not the issue that it usually is in the UT/downtown area.

Pros: Great stylists, great salon, fair price.

Cons: Too far from my North Austin apartment.

From 1986 to 2006 Luchyne was my hair dresser extraordinaire. I first met Luchyne around 1986 when she donated her beautician talents to the local chapter of Reach to Recovery, a support program for survivors of breast cancer. The American Cancer Society hosted a style show with all models being Austin-area survivors of breast cancer. Prior to the style show, Luchyne invited me to come to her shop for a pre-show hair styling. When I walked in, she was so friendly and gave me a big hug. My hair is fine, has no natural curl, and I was a "bottle" blonde. I never had to worry that whatever condition my hair, Luchyne could put life and sheen back into it. Even when I decided I wanted to change my hair color to auburn red, she took a deep breath and agreed to do so. It looked beautiful. The next week when I came back and told her I wanted to go back to blonde, her face went serious and her eyes became overly large and round for her small stature as she explained the uncertainties of the results. Nevertheless, I knew she and Paula could do anything......and they did. I went home a happy blonde.

Today I opened Catena's website and scanned down the familiar faces still working at Catena's Hair Salon. Thoughts came to mind when I had my last appointment with Luchyne in early 2006. I had just learned that after 25 years of being cancer free, I again had breast cancer. I told Luchyne, Paula and Mary Ann about my second time around with the Big C. They asked me if they could pray for me. We went into a small room where Mary Ann prayed the most beautiful prayer on my behalf. It was such an amazing day. Today, when I looked at their photos, I said to myself, "I REALLY MISS THEM." They all have such big hearts and they really care about their clients; aren't we lucky to have found them! It shouldn't have taken me so long to write a review for this place! Shelley has been coloring my hair for a few months now and I won't ever go to anyone else. She knows what she's doing and I always get outstanding results! This girl was born to do hair and you can tell she really loves it. Catena's has great charm and the whole staff is sweet as can be. I've been to other shops in Austin and I won't ever waste my time or money again, Catena's is where it's at. Treat yourself to Shelley's talent :)

.... when you walk out of Catenas! Walking into Mary Ann's salon is like walking into a warm embrace - the antiques, the hardwood floors, the unusual jewelry on display is the first thing you notice... but it all pales compared to the genuine warmth that exudes from Mary Ann and her staff. It's not just about getting a haircut, it's about being totally fed - body, mind and spirit.

Mary Ann has shown me so many different ways to style my hair - knows exactly what I'm talking about even when I don't. And always goes the extra mile to show how much she loves her customers. I called at Thanksgiving to make an appointment and wasn't surprised that she was booked for the holidays. I was put on a waiting list and 3 days later was sitting in a chair for a cut and color.

As products change, Mary Ann changes her products. She is committed to staying on top of current styles, color processes, products and style methods. She's awesome with color and just as awesome fixing other people's mistakes with color.

With the additions of nail care, facials and massage, there's no reason to go anywhere else!

Luchyne Collins is a great hair stylist. She does a great job at giving the right cut for your type of hair. Luchyne listens to what you want and then works with your hair to give you the best cut and style. She and everyone at Catena's are very warm and friendly and you leave with a smile and beautiful hair.

I've been too a few different salons here in town trying to find a good fit and as of last week I have! The staff is so friendly and genuine. A warm t-shirt and smock is offered when you arrive (I've never tried it before so it sounded weird but it was very cozy). The hair consult before we started was easy going and Shelley was great at understanding what I wanted and also suggesting what could be good or poor choices. She had a little extra time at the end and went beyond what I expected. I had mentioned during the cut that I like to curl my hair and she wowed me with a flat iron curl technique that left my hair bouncing and loving it! :) On my way out the stylists were very complimentary and I left feeling beautiful and great about the entire experience. They also offer massages, facials, manicures, pedicures and make-up application all at great prices and I can't wait to give them a try. Thank you ladies! I will be singing your praises to anyone I can. Thanks again Shelley you are fabulous!

The style and atmosphere of this place is just awesome, and the experience there is definitely enjoyable. They know what they are doing and are all very easy to talk with. Super friendly. Also very patient and specific at consultation before the haircut. Erica St. Clair is awesome. I'm very happy with the haircut I got and will definitely be going back to Catena's.

My experience at Catena's was the most special of all my salon experiences. Shelley was a joyful surprise and made the visit unforgettable. She colored and styled my gray, thin, fine hair.. the best it's ever looked.
I have had many, many compliments... never happened to me before.
The salon is precious. The people treated me like a "diva". I loved it !
I will be going there from now on.

I've had about 8 haircuts in my life that had a style to them, and they all ended in a pony tail because they were not manageable. The owner actually figured out what would look great and work, and the first time I went to dry it myself - I got dismayed but she had shown me what to do, I persisted and after 3 more attempts I had it mastered more or less. This is the first time I'm happy in 30 years.
I would have given 5 stars, but I'm waiting to see how the coloring will go, and whether they will continue to be as supportive and wonderful as they were the first time. They even suggested some creams to help my frizzy hair look smooth and for once this stuff actually worked! I'll be back to let you know about the coloring.

I consider myself a qualified critic for the industry because I grew up in it. I'm 36 yrs & my father is one of the #1 barbers and owner / operator of one of the most profitable salon / spas in Lubbock. He's been an owner operator for 45 yrs and has opened & managed other salons & colleges during that time. When I moved from home I knew I was ruined when it came to haircuts. Nothing would ever be as good. Thru the years I found some good ones & bad ones. All left me holding out until I could see my dad.

I visited Catena's for the 1st time almost 2 yrs ago. On my 1st visit I examined and evaluated every detail of the studio. I can't help it...its just in my DNA. Every associate was friendly and professional with a sense of pride and ownership in their workplace. I was referred to Erica StClair by a mutual friend in the industry. I decided to give Erica a shot at earning my devotion and took a chance. Normally, I would have had a little anxiety when visiting a new stylist, but I trusted my friend's recommendation and Erica was certainly easy to warm up to. I felt very peaceful and had a semi-VIP experience. I thoroughly was impressed. Sometimes it takes a stylist a few visits to get to know the head and hair of a new client. It can even take a few tries to get the likes and most importantly the 'dislikes" down. But, Erica dove right in with confidence and I walked out with confidence. The compliments that followed sent me back to Erica many more times.

A few months later I moved to a small town in East, TX. (about 3 hrs from Austin) I live on a lake out in the country. I'm about 40 miles from Tyler and about 75 miles from Dallas. I'm pretty sure I can find a stylist worthy in Dallas and possibly Tyler, but my experience tells me that I'll go through many disappointing candidates in the process. The way I see it....I found a jewel named Erica and a place in Austin that feels like home. 16 mnths later, I still drive 3 hours for the best.

Pros: Located close to a Starbucks (but if u dont have time to stop, they have comp. coffee)

Cons: Give yourself some extra time to get there, if you have an appointment on UT game day. HOOK EM HORNS

I have been going to Heather for 1.5 years to get my eye lashes dyed. She does a wonderful job and is super friendly. She is by far the best! My eyelashes are naturally very very blonde and she makes them black and beautiful.

Shelley recently cut and highlighted my hair and I couldn't be happier. She stuck to what was comfortable for me, yet still gave my look a lot of flare. I am so confident with my style and am glad to have found a hair place to call "home". Walk in to wood floors, vintage charm, and amazing people. Get treated like a friend and let these artists go to work!

This place is great! All of the stylists have many years of experience. They do a great job at making your hairstyle match your personal style. My hair looks good whether I choose to style it or just let it go natural. I couldn't be happier with the results.

I have looked for a salon to stick with for years, and I have finally found it! Over 20 years in Austin, and who knew it was just around the corner... this cozy and adorable salon is not only a great location - close to downtown and the UT campus area - but it features anything from cut and color to nails and waxing in one stop! What's more, I followed the lovely Shelley, hair connoisseur, to Catena's Spa after several years now as my stylist. She just fits in perfectly there, complimenting the outgoing and friendly personalities with an incredible energy and passion for her work. She has proved to take the mistakes I've imparted onto my hair - bad cuts and poor home coloring decisions - and make my look a masterpiece every time. I don't hesitate a bit to recommend this little sanctuary to any and everyone looking for a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere with caring faces at your service for spa comfort, salon revival, or to your rescue for pristine makeovers!

Pros: Incredible atmosphere with experienced and dedicated (and adorable) stylists

Cons: I have yet to find any, and don't believe I will!

Ok so my Family has been going to Catena's for a couple of years now and they always praise Mary Ann's work. I had really bad highlights added to my hair at another salon and decided to try Catena's. I went in with my Aunt while she was having her hair done by Mary Ann and asked her what I should do she helped me and scheduled an appointment with Shelley. She did such an amazing job and even styled it the way I liked at the end I was very impressed. My hair looked better than it has in a long time. They are all so sincere and make you feel as if you are apart of their family. Shelley was so much fun to talk to she is very hip and knows whats in style.

I've been a client of Heather's at her old establishment for several years, and I wouldn't go to anyone else for manicures, pedicures, and/or bikini waxing (I've never had the pleasure of partaking in one of her facials, but not bec. of a lack of interest.). I was willing to travel the extra distance from my home in Cedar Park even w/ gas prices as high as they are. She is & has always been incredibly detailed & meticulous, but she is also ALL ABOUT the overall experience. She's extremely good at making sure you get what you came for by asking what's been going on in your life and looking at the area she's going to work on. CATENA'S is top-notch! I was greeted immediately by not only 1, but 2 employees at the front desk. You feel like you're in your own home when you walk through the door. The atmosphere was very relaxed & happy, yet professional. I felt like my friend had invited me over to her house and we were doing each other's nails, but I didn't have to go to the trouble of doing hers. When we walked upstairs to Heather's private one-room "apartment" complete w/ her own kitchen sink (literally!), I felt like I'd just stepped into a suite on vacation. The manicure & polish change on my toes were of usual spectacular quality, and Heather treated me like a queen! Afterwards, Heather made it a point to introduce me to Catena's owner Mary Ann (spelling?). She gave me complete & total eye contact, and was sincerely concerned w/ my overall experience as well as the shop's convenience & my ability to find it w/out any trouble (I didn't get the impression that she was just interested in the good things I had to say, although they were plentiful.). I would go to a salon like this one (CATENA'S!!!/CATENA'S!!!) at the drop of a hat due to the ENVIRONMENT alone! Everyone is obviously very happy, and this rubs off on the clientele as well. Thanks to Catena's & Mary Ann for providing such a great atmosphere for Heather to work in & for me to enjoy! I'm HOME!

Pros: What's not to like?--welcoming, prompt, good parking for DT loc, quality prods & svc, etc

Cons: Tried hard to think of something, but couldn't come up w/ anything (location for me???).

I moved to Austin 3 years ago, went to Mary Ann within my first few months and haven't gone anywhere else since!!! I often change my style, but every hair cut I get from her results in many compliments from people I don't even know! She is very talented, kind, and caring. The first time I got my hair cut there, she actually called me two days later to see how I liked it. Very impressive.

I received a facial from heather today, and was very impressed with her attention to detail. not only did she question me about my history, and what condition I thought my skin was in. She then made sure I was completely comfortable and examined my face extensively. She then tailored my facial procedure and products to meet my needs. After one and a half hours of total pampering and a arm ,neck ,feet ,and leg massage to boot ,I was completely relaxed. I have had some wonderful facials in my time BUT NEVER as good as heathers. Thank You Heather for a job excellently done,My skin feels as smooth as a baby's face. What a great addition to catenas .

This is the first time i went to Catena's and let me tell you, they are totally awesome! Being 22 yrs old, i'm always changing my hair and am never sure quite what i want. As soon as i sat down in Mary Ann's chair, she knew exactly what to do. I didnt even have to tell her. We were completely on the same wave length. Now thats a real stylist- never having to go off some picture in a magazine. She has extreme talent and knows what will look best with your personality and facial structure. If youre feeling slightly nervous about going to a new stylist, then go to Catena's. Not only do they do an absolutely freakin' fabulous job, they are super duper nice too. I didnt once feel like i wasnt welcome, they all treat you like youre their best friend. Pretty hard to find now-a-days. I just have to say one more time......... these guys ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a piano player and singer based here in Austin and I had an important and expensive photo shoot yesterday, and I went to Catena's Hair Studio in the morning to have my hair styled. The studio, conveniently located on San Antonio Street, is very comfortable and unpretensious, not like a lot of the glassy or institutional ones I have been to in the past.
The owner, Mary Ann Catena, was my stylist; a lovely, animated and congenial woman. She took me under her wing immediately and together we worked to find the right style for me.
I have to tell you this: I have had my hair cut or styled in probably all fifty states and in many different countries around the world and Mary Ann is absolutely the best I have ever had the luck to find.
As she is working she continues to draw you out in a conversational fashion until she (and you) are dead on with respect to what you really want. What I had envisioned and what I ended up with were not absolutely the same, but I had learned during the process to listen to the professional (and boy Is She!), and when I walked out of Catena's I was extremely satisfied and knew that Mary Ann had really done her best. The photo shoot went great and from what I was able to see on the digital proofs late yesterday afternoon my hair looked fantastic!
Mary Ann's Studio is Top Shelf, the Staff is gracious and helpful, and Mary Ann is the best hair stylist I have ever had!!

Pros: Everything was "Thumbs Up"

I have just returned home from this little piece of heaven, and I don't even know where to begin. Two weeks ago I went to a new stylist at another Salon and left with my hair being horribly overprocessed and the wrong color for my skin. I have been miserable. No matter how I tried to style it, it was so dry it would not respond. I called Catena's upon typing in, "integrity" in searching for a hair salon, and up they came. I was given a consultation with Mary-Ann for the next day, today. From the moment I walked in the door, there was not a soul who did not take that one second to recognize me, incredible these days! Then came the angel, Mary-Ann. WOW does not even describe her. She listened first and foremost. Then she encouraged me and then, gave me her opinion and suggestions. Never "trying" to sell me on anything. Then she took the extra time she had beween her client to give me two treatments and blow-dried my hair and I left behind, that person I came in looking like, but more than that, the person I felt like inside. Oh, I know you girls know what I mean when your hair is ruined! And on top of it all, the best was the tender, warm embrace I received as Mary-Ann wrapped her arms around me and my heart. I am hooked on this generous, loving, kind and spirited woman. You can not go wrong....with anyone there. I met the massage therapist and the wonderfully knowledgable and helpful esthetician, Maria. So if you are looking for a wonderful family to be a part of, please come join us. I will be celebrating with you in heart.

Although I have lived in Florida for over 10 years, I still come back to Shanna about twice a year to "fix" the cuts that I've gotten elsewhere - I feel lucky that she still fits me in when I come to town. My hair is naturally curly and frizzes in humid climates (like Florida). I trust Shanna to create a style that fits my personality, face and hair. She understands my desire for an easy to manage style and she always has the products to deal with the challenges. I'm continuing to look for a local stylist that can help me, but I haven't come close yet.
