Traditional and comtemporary Mexican Cocina Tradicional Mexicana Pico's is ideal for satisfying those Mexican food cravings with its innovative regional Mex-Mex cuisine. Enjoy dishes like fresh seafood or spinach enchiladas, pollo pibil (marinated baked chicken wrapped in banana leaves), or camarones adobados (bacon wrapped jumbo gulf shrimp basted with adobo sauce). A great selection of margaritas can be enjoyed under the palapa-covered patio. Strolling musicians add to the lively atmosphere. Discover Pico's Mex-Mex Restaurant, it's sure to please. Quotes:"Arnaldo Richards of Pico's Mex-Mex restaurant is Mexico's interior cuisine pioneer." --Gourmet Magazine

The Scene
The dining room, a fairly modest affair, is a bit garish but doesn't succumb to franchise cuteness. A thatched patio out front, complete with a gurgling fountain, is perfect for groups and people who don't mind things a bit loud. Unobtrusive mariachis perform most nights.

The Food
Dubbing its fare "Mex-Mex," Pico's offers traditional and relatively exotic dishes not found at typical fajitas-and-frijoles joints. An achiote-seasoned snapper, wrapped in banana leaves, is broiled to perfection. Mancha manteles--pork stew with plantains, pineapple and raisins--is a succulent surprise. Dark, smoky mole sauce turns common enchiladas into a treat. And the stuffed poblano chili, awash in walnut-flavored cream and pomegranates qualifies for fine-dining credentials.

Key Points

  • Innovative Mex-Mex Cuisine
  • Famous Shaker Margaritas
  • Houston's BEST Soft Shell Crab

The Inside Scoop

  1. Where to Sit - For a more casual dining experience, take a seat in the palapa-covered outdoor patio.
  2. The Extras - Make your next party a fajita feast. Pico's fajita buffet feeds 30 or more and includes tables, service pieces and paper plates. Call for info.

I have yet to have a bad (or even sub-standard) meal at this place. Me and my friends trek from Sugar Land at least once a week to eat here. Every meal has been fantastic. The service is also great. I am dismayed that people confuse Pico's with Tex-Mex. This is REAL Mexican food, People! If you can't figure out what Mex-Mex means, keep driving to Pappasito's or Gringo's and leave the good stuff for us! THANK YOU PICO'S!!!!!

Pico's is a crowded and noisy place and not for most dates, this is for EATING!! They have the good Mex-Mex and great 'ritas. Good service, good food and good 'ritas. The price for 2 people having 2 Grande ritas or maybe 3 between them, some good supper, and a tip will run about $35. AND it's a deal, if you can't eat all of it, they fix it to take with you.

Pros: Good Food, Good margurietas, good service

Cons: sort of noisy

Pico's was a pleasant surprise. I'm so glad we stopped in and even gladder that I tried the MUCHO GRANDE Margarita. It was incredibly delicious and the price was very reasonable.

Ratings_icons BEST MARGARITAS

julep

Pico's has the best Mex-Mex in town, and really and truly, the largest, freshest, strongest, and purest tasting margaritas I've ever had. It's consistently good. My only complaint is that the wait can be pretty long on a weekend night!

Ratings_icons Awful!!

this has to be the worst tex-mex food i've had in a long time!! the rice was dry, the so-called burrito (nothing more than a rolled up soft taco) was hard to cut. the tortilla was not soft at all. it was drenched in sour cream. the over plate was barely luke warm. their green salsa was bad too. my guest had cheese enchiladas that need alot of spices. the prices were over rated for this type of "fast food". the waiter asked me three times was type of burrito i wanted.

The bar tender makes the best drinks. Especially their Long Island Ice Tea!!!! And if you never had Enchiladas de Fajita...you better try them.

But most of all the Waiters and the contents of menu reminds me so much of Acapulco. For those who dont know were Acapulco is. It is on the far southwest coast of Mexico. The only thing I would suggest is to add a variety of mixed drinks on the menu.

Edmund

Pros: inexpensive, good parking, best drinks

Ratings_icons As good as Mexican food gets

albertnurick

We think Pico's is one of the best Mexican restaurants in the country... not just in Houston. Don't be afraid to stray from the Tex-Mex standards; the more adventurous dishes will reward those savvy enough to order them.

If you like margaritas, you won't be disappointed; Pico's serves 'em big and strong. Bring a designated driver.

Pros: Food, Margaritas

Best Mararitas.....Best Mexican food.........Best value..........bar none. Desserts are weak, restrooms are small, traffic can be bad in the area....but the food? The food is marvelous! Have a 48oz 'Rita' and some seafood and relax......the world is good, no!

Chuys Mexican? GIVE ME A BREAK!!! Who is voting. It must be a bunch of Cancun lovers :)

For true Mexican food Pico's is one of the few on the listing that serves true Mexican cuisine.

Don't get me wrong, I like Tex-Mex food so I will vote for Lupe's Tortillas on best Tex-Mex.

Pros: Original Mexican cuis, inexpensive

Cons: Location, ambiance

Ratings_icons Fajitas, Fajitas & more Fajitas

2brothers

40 years of eating fajitas around Houston and this is the only place I can remember worth remembering. Do the fajitas, they are to die for. Want regular Mexican fair food (taco, enchiladas, etc.) go somewhere else it will be cheaper and possibly better. Want Yucatan food? I can say one way or the other because We ALWAYS ORDER THE BEEF FAJITAS.... When you have found the best, why try the rest and the salsa not bad either.

Pros: Great Fajitas, Service, Very good table Salsa

Cons: Location, Pricey tacos, Busy

Ratings_icons Best Yucatan in Town.

johnadani

There are many great Mexican restaurants in Houston, but none are like Picos. There are all the standard dishes, and they are good here too. But, what makes Picos a cut above all other Mexican restaurants in town are the entrees that are from the Yucatan region of Mexico. The banana-wrapped pork or chicken is tasty and unique. Wonderful food.
