Good Time

by james b.

This place still rocks - great for before a mavs or stars game. I had the crawfish-poboy and loved it. My wife had the nachos. We sat on the rooftop.

This place is just FUN! From the rooftop-like appearance to the atomsphere and food. It is fun.. Great Texas food, family oriented environment. They want everyone who enters this restaurant to have fun and they make sure that you do! Very reasonably priced.

Still hanging on

by Jenny S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,800

Unfortunately for Gator's the location is no longer a happening spot but you can still go down on the dart rail and have some fantastic frozen drinks. Be careful they pack a punch with alcohol. It is still a great spot to watch sports and they have some of the best queso.

Cool, just far

by Veronica L. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 850

Gators used to have a crazy night-life back when West End was big, but now it's one of the few things left down there. It's a rowdy college style bar, with lots of imaginative and them drinks.

nice place

by thefoodeater

My fiance and I were in the west end for a mavs game on tuesday and we decided to go to gators cause we heard about a free shuttle to the game.We get there a little late so we were in a rush. The atmosphere was pretty cool although I was skeptical. The place was clean, servers were nice and the food was to die for-we ordered fried pickles as apps, alligater and crawfish evrything was fabulous.good seasoning, big portions, fresh taste! I was surprised-plesantly!My better half is hooked-she talked to the manager about having our wedding parties there and she is stoked-needless to say we had a great time and we told the manager we'd post a review for the great time-even the shuttle guy rocked.

Pros: dart-train access

Cons: finding shuttle after game

Unique

by sogaloo

We went here before a stars game a few days ago and it was awesome. Incredible food - and service. The best thing was that everything is very unique - very "non" chain but good stuff. It was pretty busy but we were in and out in about 35-40 minutes and took their free shuttle to the game.....will be back

Pros: Food/Service

Cons: Pay to park

Sports fan loves this place

by pappanos

Every weekend my buddies and I look for a place to watch games, drink beer and enjoy some good game-watching food. THIS IS THE PLACE. Our group ordered burgers and half a dozen appetizers, and everything was good, good, good. We also "sampled" most of the frozen drinks and watched games all day. Our waitress was spot-on with the service, too. We have found our permanent place to watch games!

Family friendly, fantastic food, lots of FUN!

by bearsbandsdrinks

I have 3 kids, and they always beg to go to Gator's! The place is so much fun, and the staff is always very accommodating to the kiddos. PLUS, my husband and I love it - the menu has a lot of variety, the drinks are strong, and we love the TVs to watch games!!

Great stuff!!!!!

by cacomm13

Let me start by saying that the place is one of a kind. As soon as you walk in you understand its not your typical bar and grill. My friends and I all had different food and everything was very good. I had the mike's sandwich and i have to say i don't have a clue how to make it but its very good. We went over to the bar and Castro help us pick our frozen drinks off the wall, and he didn't steer us wrong. The prices are good the food and drinks are great and our waitress, Jesica or Yesi (something like that), was the best!!!

Pros: Great food, drinks, staff and live music! WAT MORE DO YOU NEED FOR A GOOD TIME!

Cons: Tried to tell the manager how good the place was and he blew me off. Young, slim, hispanic felow.

by thedalduh

My boyfriend and I stumbled into this place by accident. We LOVED it! The frozen drinks are awesome, and the food was great too. I think there had to have been 3 or 4 bachelorette parties going that night and the atmosphere was GREAT!!! All the servers were fun, outgoing, and very personable! I will def. be going back!!!

I don't think so !!! :)

by calgal4u2

Who ever wrote the last review must be thinking of another place. I went to Gators Yesterday and had this huge platter of fish, gator and fired shrimp and it was fantastic! On the service I would say he must have been outside or something because I was getting almost too much attention. They filled my ice tea so often I think I drank 4 glasses in an hour and a half, not sure, I lost count! The prices were fair and yes it is great for tourists:) I live here but play tourist because I find them a little more fun than the regular Dallas crowd on occasion. If you are looking for fun frozen drinks, great variety of shrimp, burgers, fish, yes alagator dishes and poor boy like sandwiches it's a great place! Bring your smile and leave your attitude at home, because these waiters are the hardest workers I have seen in a long time and very nice! Two thumbs up from a 'local' tourist :)

Pros: Great fun, food and service.

Cons: none

AVOID AT ALL COST

by cgood85

I just moved to Dallas and went to Gator's and it made me want to never eat there again. The food and service were terrible. This is the definition of a tourist trap! Our bill was almost $100 and was completely incorrect and the waitress wouldn't reimburse us for her mistakes.

Awesome Restaurant/Bar

by kwalshintx

Gators ROCKS! I visited Gators with some out of town guests on Saturday afternoon and we had the best service, the food was great, the margaritas with chips and queso were awesome! Our server was very nice, helpful (especially with our three young kids) The atmosphere was fun, great music and the staff was so nice (which is hard to find at most restaurants). I highly recommend Gators if you're looking for a fun place with great food. Oh, and the location is great too...West End near the aquarium and JFK Museum.

Pros: Great food, location and FUN staff

Food has no flavor

by asmith507

I visited Dallas this past weekend and we stumbled upon this place and it looked like it would be a nice place. really clean and neat decor but that's where it stopped. There were two guys standing outside of the place to greet us but once inside we saw no waiters or waitresses whatsoever. We sat ourselves. Finally, got served. I was excited about trying the red beans and rice which were listed in the menu as "The Best in Dallas." Sorry folks! No flavor, too much pepper and it may have had about a half of a cup of rice mixed in the "soup" that they brought me. The "cajun chicken" that was supposed to be added to it was simply a chicken breast cubed and thrown on top. I mean at least try and make it look as it goes in the dish anad not just an afterthought you threw on top. And on top of all of that it was cold. My husband ordered the macho nachos and was equally disappointed. I would not recommend this place for anything more than a place to have a beer. It's hard to mess that up.

Pros: neat decor, clean inside

Cons: no flavor in the food...just pepper! Cold food

Food and Service were great

by troy0888

We took the whole family to Gator's on 3/2/2008. We were greeted by a friendly waitress at the front door and headed up to the rooftop patio. Our waiter was on top of it and had our drinks to us VERY quick (lethal weapon was real good!!) Food came out soon after - had the crawfish nachos - very tasty and unique. The reason why I wrote a review is because they took GREAT care of our kids - we have a 2 yearwold - 3 year old and a 7 year old. Everyone knows if the kids are happy - mom and dad can relax - and our waiter - and even the manager made sure of that! Will be back soon!!!!!!!!!!

Pros: rootop - food - drinks

Terrible service

by UnhappyCustomer08

We sat upstairs on the outdoor patio. Two of the four ordered food, two were there for drinks. We were told that our food would be arriving soon, then 15 minutes later, we were told that again. The waitress brought the wrong order (french fries when I ordered salad) and she said that she had to take my plate away. I asked why...are you going to serve the fries to someone else ? I was flabbergasted when she said yes ! The waitress was rude, slow to serve, rolled her eyes, and couldn't give us information about the menu. When we asked what took so long to get our dinner, the waitress responded that they had gotten a rush on food downstairs. I suppose happy hour food takes precedent at this establishment. I asked to speak to the manager but he never came upstairs. When we finally got the bill, the waitress walked by us 3 times even though we clearly wanted to pay the bill. We walked downstairs and asked to speak to the manager. He made excuses for the poor service and clearly didn't care that we were unsatisfied with our experience. I absolutely would NOT return to Gator's. This totally explains why there are 5 other poor reviews about them on this site.

Pros: Walking distance from most hotels in the area

Cons: Loud, poor service and attitude by wait staff and manager

Avoid this place like the plague

by dwood128

This is the first review I've ever written, but service was so bad I felt I have to warn other people away from this place. (I would rate it with negative stars if I could.) We went to eat there before the hockey game, and knowing that West End restaurants could get crowded we intentionally arrived VERY early to leave plenty of time for dinner. The waitress was very slow taking our order and bringing drinks, and then we sat over 40 minutes waiting for food before the waitress told us it would be ANOTHER 40 minutes before we would get anything. She claimed the kitchen was backed up, but I don't know if it was that or just an incompetent server that forgot to put our order in. Either way, we knew we'd be in jeopardy of being late for the game, so our group opted to cancel our order and eat hot dogs at the arena instead. I normally don't look for free stuff, but she should've at least comped our drinks (which didn't happen). It was a COMPLETE waste of time to go to this place. In hindsight, we should've complained to the manager, but at the time everyone just wanted to get out of there.

It was obvious we were going to the game and were planning to catch the shuttle, so if the kitchen was that backed up, we should've been warned before being seated. There is NO EXCUSE for the poor service we received. Since we never got to eat, I can't rate the food, but if it's even half as bad as the service, then don't bother.

Pros: Nothing pro about this place

Cons: Very poor service

BEST FROZEN DRINKS ANYWHERE. FOOD IS SUPERB. FUN FUN FUN

by hollycooksey

The is the GREATEST place. Atmosphere is so FUN!! The staff are friendly, and the food is AWESOME. A must visit when you are in the West End or Downtown Dallas. The red beans and rice are out of this world. And the DRINKS- oh my gosh!!!! The wall of frozen drinks is just what the doctor ordered. Worth a few trips to try them all. Highly recommended.

Pros: Service food and atmosphere are perfect

Cons: NOTHING

Worst experience ever

by hankmc

I should have know when the waitress said it would be slow service we were in for trouble. We ordered and none of the orders were right. My wife order a salad with her cheese steak and got cold fries. Her cheese steak was mostly onions. My daughter order a plain cheese burger and got it with everything. I order a crab cake sanwich and it came on two pieces of cold soggy toast, and all with cold fries and no catchup. We would have sent it back but there was no one around to send it back with. I spoke with the manager and he took about 30% off the bill but I cannot belive I paid anything for that meal. It was the worst experience I have ever had in my life. The outside tables were dirty. Just the worst ever.

Fun place to be with friends!!

by leepera

I have been a Gator's fan since 1989! Gator's is one of the best hot spots in downtown Dallas! The atmosphere is relaxed and fun with great food and awesome drinks! The service there is top notch and it is easy to tell that the waiters/waitresses love what they do! They have definitely established themselves as THE place to be when visiting the Dallas area!

No Service

by ftworthtiger

We sat down and waited for the band to start. We had to seat ourselves, then we watched a waitress walk back and forth 5 times and we had to flag her down when she was 1 foot away. It then took another 24 min to get the drinks. She then took another 20 min to bring food. We then realized that we had no silverware. I just got up and got my own. I really did enjoy the band, but the overall expieriance was horrible. It is time for a change with managers. NO customer service skills from the top down.

Pros: good music

Cons: wait staff , management, expensive cover

Poor facilities and customer management

by gltbiter

Arrived at 5:55 left at 6:55 food was never served. I blame management. Excuses do not work. I came to eat before a Stars Game. I am a season ticket holder so I eat often in WE before games. First time at Gators. Waitress should have asked if it was first time and briefed us about the shuttle and any problems with the kitchen. I would think catering to Stars fans on game night could be a profit center. Spent all their staff catering to partiers upstairs that probably had no idea what time it was. Walked to AAC and was 10 min late for game. Starved. At junk food at game. Awful night. Stars won though.

Pros: Location, Frozen drinks, Happy hour

Cons: kitchen management, customer service

Horrible!!!!!!!!

by lasquisha

I called ahead of time and was told addmission was free till 9:00, we got there at 8:30 and they told us that they just changed the free addmission time to 8:30. We sat for an hour before they brought the drinks and we had to ask twice. The drinks were wrong and small. By the time we got our food it was cold. I told them to take it back and warm it up and also to give us a basket of warm fries, since they taste bad after reheating. They took it back and warmed it slightly. When the bills came they were wrong and he had charged us for the fries. I talked to the manager and told him we deserved a discount all they would do was take off the fries.
The only good thing was the Piano Guy.

Pros: Piano Bar

Cons: Service, Food, Wait
