Star Furniture Custom Drapery Failure
by Joe B.
I purchased custom window treatments from the San Antonio Store. I put over $6000 down and was to have delivery within a few weeks. This was in May. After a few weeks had gone by with no word, I went to the store. The designer told me my fabric was on back order and to give it another week or so. This was just the beginning.... Over the next 8 or 9 months I received the following excuses for the delay: 1. I'm busy with another project 2. I need more measurements 3. I need to recheck my measurements 4. I need to make templates 5 My installer is out of town 6. My installer is sick 7. My installer's mother is sick 8. My installer's mother died 9. The manufacturer lost your order 10. I have to do another template etc. etc. etc. She would call, make an appointment and then not show up or call. When it got to the point I was going to complain she produced 1/2 of the order. She still didn't have an installer so she had the seamstress' husband do the installing. I was told the second 1/2 of my order would be in before christmas, which of course it wasn't. When it did come in didn't fit correctly.
I made sure management knew what she was doing. A year later she is still working there. If you are looking for custom window treatments DO NOT USE STAR FURNITURE!!!

Total Incompetence
by Joe S.
Star Furniture = overpriced furniture carelessly delivered to your home incomplete, broken, marred, smashed, dented AND/OR scratched over an unacceptably period of time. The store manager won't care when you complain about their incompetence--he realizes he is not capable of making the necessary procedural changes to fix Star's unacceptable deliveries. He will blame the damages on everyone from the Chinese who built the furniture to the people in Houston who unpack and assemble the furniture and ultimately deliver it to the San Antonio store. His Houston boss will only pretend he cares. Warren Buffett, the billionaire owner of Star Furniture, will be more interested in promoting his car insurance company with a green gecko than addressing the problems of his furniture company. As a successful businessman, Mr. Buffett realizes that all furniture stores in San Antonio are equally incompetent delivering goods and, in light of a lack of choices, people will shop in his store no matter what (otherwise, he would have dumped Star Furniture already).
IF YOU MUST SHOP AT STAR FURNITURE: 1) Do not pay anything until your selected furniture arrives at the store. 2) Go to the store and inspect the furniture. If unacceptable, REJECT IT and leave the store. If OK, pay for it if you must and WARN them that if anything gets damaged on its way to your home, your will REJECT the delivery on the spot and demand your money back. Tell them you will not allow second chances or a detailer who may fill dents and scratches with putty and paint over them with magic markers. Get the name of the employee who agrees to your condition. 3) At home, reject the entire delivery if damaged. Go back to the store and demand your money back. 4) Refuse giving them a second chance--they WILL screw up again as many times as you ALLOW them.

Didn't keep a promise
by Jennifer T.
I fell in love with a blue sofa in their clearance center. I was told that I could buy the piece separately. I go back the next day to purchase it and am told that I have to buy two chairs with it - raising the cost to $1600. I am very upset that they couldn't keep their promise. I just moved to San Antonio and I will never step foot in there again. Ever. And will tell my friends to do the same.

Whats With all the Customer Bashing?
by John R.
Just look at the argumentive banter going back and forth here. If a customer complains, then there is generally an underlying reason for it. Don't be looking to shift the blame elsewhere, see what you can to to keep the next guy from feeling the same way. Jeez, read the rebuttal comments of an obvious "annonymous" employee..."pissy customers," "bitchy customers," "Karmas a ..." Great attitude from the sales staff that tends to reinforce perceptions and comments of rude treatment. I don't need to be exposed to this kind of irrational behavior. I'll just go look somewhere else. Thanks for the insight into what kind of business this is...

Let's Let the Sales Consultant Speak!!
by S. S.
There are some pretty harsh words being said about Star Furniture, I find it hard to believe, but each person has a view. We are trained at Star to value every person that walks through the door as we would a member of our family. The theory being treat people the way you want to be treated and to be as helpful and as knowledgeable as possible then your "guest" will come back again. Yes "guest" we are all trained to believe the customer is not just a warm body walking in the door to get the "hard sell" but the "guest" you get to know not for only one sell but many visits whether they buy or not. After reading the terrible reviews "my store" received I was floored. Star spends weeks and months training and schooling their consultants and trust me a Sales Manager would never allow any of those shenanigans on the floor. For the furniture to be shown as one quality and received as another is ridiculous. The Sales Representatives for the furniture manufacturers could not stay in business if that were true. The respectable furniture manufacturers including THOMASVILLE made in North Carolina, LA-Z-BOY RECLINERS & BROYHILL could never stay in business if they substituted furniture. I'm not sure what store you were in but if you come to San Antonio you will get the Star treatment. Hope to see you soon.

The truth about Star Furniture
by Anonymous
Now I'm writing with as much of 6 years of experience at Star Furniture. First off, Star does not MAKE the furniture, it comes from over seas and sales people have NO control over that! Second, furniture has to be stacked because of pissy customers who |3itch that they want their furniture TODAY or TOMORROW, so Star will do whatever it takes to make customers happy and get it delivered as soon as possible.(BTW, you do not get free delivery just because you spent $1000 or $100,000 on furniture from there, gas and labor are not free!) Another reason why your furniture will be scratched is because if you decide to cancel it THE DAY BEFORE delivery, it has to go in the truck anyway, so your stuff will be flopping around in the truck. Then that's the same furniture you will get when you finally decide on an actual delivery date that you want and you have to have it right away and then you get mad because it's damaged. Third, if you ever have bad experience with your sales consultant like attitude or rudeness, blow them off and go to someone else or a manager and let them know. Managers have no problem hearing about that. Fourth, it's not that sales people don't care about you, it's just when you call and start bitching at them about your furniture or whatever, they don't really want to hear it because it's not their fault and all they can do is call customer service. Trust me, the sales people ALWAYS go to a manager when they have an upset customer, they try to satisfy their customer as much as possible and get managers approval as to how far they can go with making their customer satisfied. It's not a perfect world so things may not go perfectly the way you want it with Star or anywhere else, so DEAL with it! It's just FURNITURE, there are FAR more worse things to worry about! Fifth, Star does not take care of their employees as much as they'd like so that "carelessness" you think you're experiencing carries on to the sales. Finally, Sales people have nothing to do with the way the furniture is made, delivered, the quality of it, or anything else. They help you with your questions and concerns, give their expert advice of the furniture to your taste, and write it up. Sales have to do EVERYTHING and don't get paid a whole lot for it (you'd be surprised at how much they have to do and it's totally not worth it AND having to hear customers |3itch at them for something that they have no contol of). Lastly, take it from me, when you are pissed off about your purchase and you take it out on the first person who answers the phone (office associates) THEY don't really care what you're bitching about or if you cancel, THEY could careless because they're not getting commission off of it and they're still getting a paycheck and don't get paid enough TO care! Yes they will be as professional as possible, but they MAY or MAY NOT pass the message along if you're rude to them for something they have no control of either. But if you are pleasant and understanding and patient with them, they will go farther into what they can do to help and go an extra step to satisfy you just because you were nice. Trust me, kindness goes a long way! Just treat people the way you want to be treated... because karma's a |3itch!

Star = SCAM
by Anonymous
Star Furniture in SA is completely UNSATISFACTORY...Let me explain: I'm writing as i had MUCH experience with STAR as a formal salesmen for Star for almost 1 year and I have a few pieces(which are completely worthless now). First: The sales people are completely rude and can care less about you once you sign your name on the contract and put your money on the counter...After that, prepare for hell... The stores look very 'grand' and exciting once you enter, but you'll notice ALL the pieces of furniture are completely OVER PRICED. The quality of the furniture looks good in the showroom, but once you receive your pieces 2-10 weeks later you'll notice the quality is NOT what you wanted...the showroom pieces have more more quality then the actual product, believe me. Next: Delivery takes on average 1-2 weeks, and up to 10 weeks. The delivery trucks are loaded up by big black guys being bossed around in Houston, ive seen it, the furniture is thrown onto the trucks and STACKED on top of each other in order to save gas. Mirrors are cracked, dressers are chipped, leather/fabric are ripped...ALL because they love to stack furniture in order to save gas/trips and ensure 'fast delivery' - Yea right. Because everything is stacked your experience at Star will be HORRIBLE. You will struggle getting your DAMAGED FURNITURE replaced constantly on the phone with troubled customer service. Which goes to CUSTOMER SERVICE: At purchase you will be given two numbers to call to report problems. The office in SA will transfer all your problems to houston, then houston will give the MOST PROBLEMS EVER. First they will arrange a 'tech' to 'inspect' the damaged pieces in about 1 week. He will go to your home and try to repair your furniture by COLORING IN chipped pieces or trying to PATCH UP the EXPENSIVE furniture. This is UNSATISFACTORY. Save your time and take your business elsewhere!!!

Salespeople are Rude

I have twice been in this store and both times I have found their salespeople to be rude. I haven't purchased anything here yet because of it. They have a huge selection but not really anything that I couldn't get anywhere else and cheaper. The last time I tried to shop here, I was looking for a sofa and loveseat. The salesperson stopped me at the door, asked me what I was looking for and then said. We do n't have anything like that - turned around and walked away. I asked him if I could look through the store - he pointed to the back of the store and said "the couches are that a way". I was so shocked that when I walked into Haverty's and was warmly greated, I made a comment that it was such a difference from the last store I was in and they said "you must have just gone to Star - we hear that all the time" Sad........ I won't try them a third time.

Star Furniture DOESN'T Care About QUALITY !
by John H.
I special ordered 3 chairs from Star Furniture and the chairs were delivered about three weeks late. That is number one, they took much longer to make than promised.
The MAIN Problem...The Quality of the chairs I bought is not as good as what was in the store. I was promised one thing and given another. I expected the same quality in the chairs ordered as what I had sat on in the store. Well, they are not even close! A salesperson said..."Maybe it was made on Friday".
They offered to do " N O T H I N G " for me. The chairs are not comfortable like the ones in the store. One of them had a Tear on part of it, so they took it and when brought back is nothing like the chair that was takn. My whole experience with them is a $2400.00 WASTE of time!
I spent good money for POOR QUALITY. They have my money and NOW they Will NOTdo ANYTHING for me. I should not have pre-paid, but they insisted on cash BEFORE the chairs could be made.
The salespeople are a JOKE at the store. They pretend to care about what you want or need in your home and then after the sale....They could care LESS!
PROS: NICE LOOKING STORE....SEEMS HONEST....BUT JUST PAY AND SEE
CONS: P L E N T Y OF CONS....INCLUDING SALESPEOPLE

I like to go in here to just look around whether I am buying or not. They always have some very unique furniture and they are priced to sell. The sales people can find a way to get the financing that you need! I'm not real good at putting things together but the sales people are! They pieced together a very nice beedroom for me things that I never would have thought to put together, the results were amazing. I will continue to go back everytime I need to buy new furniture!
PROS: Great selection
CONS: none
