Christmas Shoppe

My daughter and I visited the Christmas shop in mid- December. This is her first Christmas with her husband so she wanted to get some new ornaments. Once inside the store which is very small and very crowded we began to browse. This was the third store we'd been in that morning on the main street. Upon entering all the other stores we were greeted warmly...not in this store..in fact the women behind the counter didn't even look up when we commented on all the beautiful ornaments!

While my daughter was looking towards the back of the store I began looking at some ornaments that were shaped like houses. We just bought a new house and I wanted one to reflect our new home. Standing next to me was an older lady who had several ornaments in her hand. I was holding an ornament I was considering buying when the elderly lady bumped into me causing me to drop the ornament I was holding. When it hit the floor and broke off a piece at the back I scooped it up immediately. The nice lady, of course apologized profusely to me..I assured her it was an accident and not to think anything of it. I took the broken ornament to the desk to explain the situation with the lady by my side. After explaining the woman behind the desk said "Well its broken and has to be paid for" The lady who bumped me offered to pay for it but I said absolutely no way. I told the woman I would pay their cost when I decided what else I wanted. Although after her remark I wanted to grab my daughter and leave immediately.

When my daughter came to the counter with her ornaments the woman asked if she was paying for the broken ornament to which I said of course not I'll pay for it.

I paid for the ornaments for my daughter and told her to add the broken ornament with that total reiterating that I would pay only what it cost the store.

I paid the bill and we left the store. I told my daughter what had happened and she was just livid..she wanted to return the ornaments I'd bought for her immediately but I said no, just let it be. We did decide that we would never return to that store and would tell all of our friends about the poor treatment we received. Word of mouth means a lot especially in a small close knit town.

Imagine my shock when we arrived home and realized that I'd been charged the full amount for the ornament $13.99!!!!

I know the ornament was broken. It was an accident and in my opinion should have been treated as such. I owned my own business for years and would never have done what this woman did to me.

So, if you're looking at the Christmas Shoppe for ornaments be sure not to bump into anymore (good luck with that considering how small the store is and how things are hanging!) because it will cost you.

At least it was when we visited this place. They have lots and lots of ornaments - some Texas theme for tourist types like me. The store was just full of these ornaments hanging on the walls and the trees. Their prices were what I've seen in other toursit areas in other towns.

The Christmas Shoppe, located on Main, has Christmas all year round to browse through. While they are a small shop, they do have a large selection of ornaments, trees, villages, and stockings. You can always find that one of a kind, unusual ornament for someone here. The shop is decorated beautifully, but sometimes it gets very crowded and is hard to look through.
