A nice zoo
The houston zoo is located nicely in one corner of the herman park near the museum distict in houston. It is a pretty small zoo compared to the more famous ones in other cities. They have quite a good collection of animals from all around the world, but I think they can do better in terms of landscaping to suit the habitat of the animals. They do have special events during holidays, and while they're fun, parking is a huge problem at those times.

A great Family place
The zoo here is wonderful! The admission prices are great. The exhibits are clean and well kept and the animals are the number 1 priority. Very educational and just a fun and safe place to take the family.

Wonderful Experience
I don't think there is anything bad you could say about this place. The childrens part of the zoo is a lot of fun and the kids really love that. Esp. the petting zoo.

Wonderful Family Place
This place is so much fun for the family. They did raise the price this summer, but is well worth it. The train is wonderful too. I think that was my son's favorite part.

Really a great zoo
I have been to lots of zoos around the country. Houston has one of the best. First, it is huge! It will take you most of the day to get through it and see most of what you want to see. They have great habitats for the animals. this zoo is very economical. Good fair prices. Also on several days a year you can get in for free, I think martin luther king day is one of the "free" days. You can check their web site for more information.

Wonderful
I have family all around, so i have seen lots of zoos. None compare to the Houston Zoo. I take my children there at least 8 times a year. They even send announcements when a baby is born there! they take the time to show my kids how animals are, different demonstrations, etc. It's such a wonderful family place, and the price is perfect for a big family on a budget!
PROS: everything
CONS: nothing

A place for everyone!!
this is such a wonderful place, with so many activities, there are things to do for everyone. Lots to learn and enjoy. Kids have special areas for fun and everything is kept neat and clean. They also have a gift shop and as always everything is a bit expensive there. Also during festival season they have wonderful celebrations for kids and it is so much fun

Nice place to spend the day.
It's no San Diego Zoo, but a very nice place just the same. They are making some nice improvements there, including the addition of a "Natural Encouters" exhibit which lets you see the animals in a little bit more natural setting. Every employee that I have encountered there has been excpetionally frinedly and ready to provide assistance of answer questions. They also have people out with animals that the kids can touch or at lest see up really close on a fairly regular basis.
Avoid it in May, the end of the school year, when there seem to be a greater than usual number of field trips planned, resulting in a very crowded zoo.
PROS: Very friendly and helpful staff.
CONS: Can get crowded when there are lots of field trips.

Great Zoo!
This is an excellent zoo. The animals are in something similar to their natural habitat, and it is evident that they are well-cared for. It is split into different regions by animal groups, and there is even a children's zoo area. The children's area has a petting zoo, and many more exhibits that are hands on for children.

I love the monkeys and turtles
Sadly the bear did not want to show up the day I went. I love going to the zoo to see the cute animals. My favorite animals there are the turtles and the monkeys. The place smells but what do you expect from a zoo. I wish they could lower the prices of their food but again, what do you expect from an amusement park. Again i could state that I wish they lowered the prices of the gift shop, but then again, it's an amusement park. Fun time though!

Awesome Zoo
This is one of the best zoos I have been in. You can go indoors to the different habitats when it is hot. the animals live in very realistic habitats inside and out. Sometimes that makes it hard to see the animals, but it made me feel like they were being treated humanely.
The children's zoo is awesome. There are animals who are native to Texas for the kids to see and pet. They also have some shaded areas for the kids to play in.
The price is reasonable for a huge zoo and actually less than other smaller zoos.

Nice Zoo!
This zoo is pretty nice. It is quite large and they have a wide variety of animals to look at. I would not recommend coming here on a hit summer day because most of the animals will be under their cool caves and you will end up with blisters and a crying baby. There is also a nice lake located right by the zoo!

A swell time to be had
The Houston Zoo.. a fun place, an animal place. A place for the kids, a place for the adults, a place to take your husband or your wife, or your animal-loving teenager, the Houston Zoo can offer fun and a day of "oooh's" and "awww's" for anyone with an appreciation for God's little friends. There are critters in all shapes and sizes here, from slithering reptiles to sunbathing bears to jumpin little monkeys, you and the whole family can enjoy a day well spent at Houston's Zoo Incorporated. Theres even a miniature train to take you on a short tour of the grounds. Yeehaw, its zoo adventure time!
PROS: More family fun in the Texas sun!
CONS: A pain to get to if you don't live in the city of Houston.

The perfect place to take your family...
The Zoo has changed a lot since I was a child, but it has only gotten better with it's new renovations. Signs clearly point out exhibits and other amenities.
Best to go early to get decent parking near the zoo. Take bread and feed the ducks at the lake by the train station. There are also picnic facilities available nearby if you want to make a day of it.
Take some cash. The gift shop has a lot of cool items, but they are pricey. Food prices are reminiscent of theme park prices. You might want to pack a lunch if you are on a budget.
PROS: Huge; Can spend a day outdoors with the family; Cool exhibits
CONS: Some exhibits are closed at certain times of day or year; Limited parking

Great Outing
We have had great times at the Houston Zoo. There are so many animals to see. I like the acquarium most. Kids enjoy the monkeys. It is a lot of walking around. They have a play area for the kids and many places to have lunch.

very good but a little pricey
The admission fees just went up recently but I believe it is due to all the renovations they have done. I like that there is a nice park to have a picnic afterwards with the kids and ride the pedal boats and train.

Kids and adults will love this place!
The Houston Zoo has came full circle and is enjoyable again! If you haven't been to the Houston Zoo in awhile nows the time to go! We took a break from going due to the lack of animals available for the kids to see. It was always a downer, no animals to view, they were easily bored!
We have since gave it another try and this experience was fabulous. The kids had a great time! They have added a few more exhibits and really cleaned the place up. My kids really enjoyed the bald eagle presentation.Make it a point to see that! Recommend that you wear tennis shoes as this zoo is really spread out. Parking can be a challenge once the main lot fills up, so go early AM when all the animals are up feeding, thats a plus. Also you can beat the TX heat!
Prices are a lot higher than I recalled, but the improvements make it worth it.

Houston Zoo
My son loves to go to the Houston Zoo every year with his grandparents. When you can go on a day that it is not that hot, it is perfect. The exihibits, displays, and animals are all very interesting. They love to spend all day and the take their time and just enjoy it.

Large Zoo, lots of animals
The actual zoo was big and had lots of things to see. It was very clean, and I loved the underground tunnel that let you see the lions close up (they were probably less than a foot from the glass!) Unfortunately, if it's a hot day, you won't have much fun (I got heat exhaustion). In the kiddie zoo, they have a fan with water spraying in front of it so you can get misted and not feel as hot, but it's not much compensation.
It would be much better to go to the zoo on a cool day, with lots of shade.

For Children
Here is a great place for the entire family to enjoy. I know my kids enjoyed when we went. They have many animals to view and great aquariums. It is a very clean environment. The price is kinda high, but well worth it. They have areas to rest and stop and buy snacks. They have very clean bathrooms as well. They have where you can buy souvenirs.

Great Family Time
It's a great place to take the family for the whole day. At that price for the whole day it's really worth it. My child loves the childrens section of the zoo!!! Graet place to spend family time.

OK
It's always nice to visit a zoo. In Houston we have the disadvantage of terrible weather a lot of the time (it's either scorching hot or raining), so outdoor activities can be difficult. The animal exhibits were nice and we enjoyed walking around and seeing the critters. The aquarium was indoors and very nicely featured. The entrance price was inexpensive. Outside of the zoo is a park where they have a little train kids and adults can ride around on. It's a decent, fun zoo.

Houston Zoo
The Houston Zoo has a wide variety of animals for you to view. They have dolphin shows. There are nice places to eat. Plenty off different varieties of drink. Strollers that you can rent. And toys that you can buy for the kids. It is a great place to have a good time.

I hated this place.
When I got the idea to go here, I thought I would be spending a great afternoon here. Instead, I was bitterly disappointed when I got there. Not only did the place smell horrible and the heat was blistering, but the animals were a disappointment as well. I guess I was supposed to be entertained by them, but I ended up feeling sorry for them. They were dirty, tired-looking, and non-energetic. I am not an animal rights activist by any means, but the animals there are in a horrible condition. Here's some advice...save your time and money.
PROS: nothing
CONS: everything is overpriced

Inexpensive family fun
The Houston zoo is such a fun place to visit! It is fairly inexpensive and the exhibits are appropriate for kids (and parents) of all ages.
They have a water area for the kids, along with a petting zoo. The petting zoo is always our favorite because you can get a brush at the door and brush the goats.
Every time I've gone, they've had all of their animals out.
They also rent strollers for a small fee in case your little one can't handle the walking.

Love it
We love our zoo. I think the prices are great. We have exhibits that no one else in the country has. The packages and deals to join the zoo are fabulous. It is always clean and the animals are always so much fun. We try to go at least five or six times a year and many times go more!
