The Ice at the Parks "Learn to Skate" program is cheap. Don't be goaded into paying for private sessions. They tout that their trainers skated in "shows". They don't tell you those shows are seasonal Ice at the Park skits. They say their "trainers" competed internationally and nationally. What they don't say is that out of fields of 11 they placed 11th. One Ice at the Parks "skaters" partnered with a skilled skater. The latter dumped him going on to place 1st. Another young lady dumped an IP skater placed 1st; her performance televised. The director offers lessons; appears to need a walker to keep up. The Zamboni operator couldn't shave ice for a sno-cone. Skates are ruined during sharpening to get you to buy new ones from them. Any successful skaters that have had anything to do with Ice at the Parks "skaters" have long since kicked them to the curb. Their loaner skates are dull so that you'll continually fall and buy their skates. Finally, anything more advanced than "Learn to Skate" get a real trainer. The exception to this is a Russian trainer named Natasha. Remeber, the "trainers" job duties alternate between the rink and the 2nd floor carousel. Do I hear Carnival or Carney?

The instructional hockey progams offer good instruction, good people, and great prices for ice time. Sure the ice is terrible in the summer and just passable the rest of the year but ice time is ice time. The coach and the other players there make up for the wet ice and bad zamboni jobs. Just dont let them sharpen your skates! They butchered mine because they dont have good equipment.

I love to take my grandkids to the rink. They have the best time out there, but I NEVER, EVER leave them for a moment. They cannot leave the ice without me and we all go together. I have not had a problem with the restrooms and I am fussy about such things.

We use our Star-Telegram Press Pass and get in for $3 each plus skate rental is free with the pass. What a deal!

I suggest that any and everyone visiting Ice at the Parks in Arlington exercise optimum caution. Arlington is not the placid bedroom community it once was. The mall and the rink are trouble and in trouble. All the lies, coverups, advertising and artificial hype can not hide the fact. True, adverse pu blicity would only add to the problem so many occurrences do not make the six o'clock news nor the newspapers. But, real danger does lurk there, from parking lot to the lobby. and all places in between. The rink is not a safe place to "leave the kids". Before you decide to let your guard down to indulge in a leisurely day of spending, look about. How many police do you notice, how many stores are closed, how many edgy shop clerks, how many menancing teens, any dubious loiterer , who's watching your car. who's watching you, how many pimps with their working girls did you spot, did another ambulance pull up at the rink? A word to the wise.

Nicely situated in the heart of the entertainment wing at the Parks Mall in Arlington, one would take in the smells of the upper-level restaurants, Capuccino wafting in from the near-by Starbucks and the smell of urine and feces assaulting you as you make your way into Ice @the Parks restrooms. Unsanitary public restrooms, locker room restrooms and sticky toilet area, and ice surface is why I call IceDookie @ the Parks. To a new or one-time visitor one might shrug it off as a one time-occurrence but being a regular of 3 years, I can tell you it is not. The janitorial staff consists of 15-19 year old hockey and clueless figure skaters with very minimal supplies and cleaners ( windex and paper towels). Faulty or missing sink/plumbing in locker rooms and bathrooms are just retarded. I can not say much about the ice just ... watch out and wear a mouth guard. In 3 years, I have personally witness the rink management check the level of the ice 4 times.Once was to paint the hockey lines because the Zamboni driver had shaved off the last layers of ice taking the paint off with it!! Lack of skate guards or inattentive skate guards is not cool ... I've seen children pick holes in the ice and seen adults and children flying right into them .. either knocking out teeth or being carried off in a stretcher. Bloody noses and mouths abound!! Sometimes accidents were due to ridges left in the ice after a Zam or when the "experienced" staff cut the ice...downward sloping into the walls. This sloping caused skaters to fall flat on their backs ..reminiscent of the " Home Alone" falls..
This is not a rink for serious minded and competitive skaters be it figure or hockey. This rink only serves for recreational purposes at best. Any skaters (invaders) who hope to compete in the upper strata of US figure skating and who would like to consider this rink will not be welcomed here by staff or regulars unless you are under the watchful eye of a qualified trainer ( from somewhere else for on the ice protection - bodyguard).Go spend your money elsewhere for a qualified trainer. If a trainer does not boast gold/silver medals in any USFSA events or international competition, Olympic medals, championship gold or silver on their brochure...no matter what nationality they are beware!!! Feel free to question a coach's resume. If they can not explain or get antsy... walk away...If they did not do well for themselves they will not do well by you.
The best time to skate is usually on Mondays... all day. Tue, Wed, Thur 9AM-2PM, Fri 1-2pm....From 2PM Mon-Wed on ???....forgettaboutit!!! - If you happen to get there around 3:30 -5:00 just get a bag of popcorn from the AMC sit down and watch the ice show as Arlington's most untalented and unwanted will vie for your attention... it is indeed the best show around, shamefully funny and absolutely free! Evening freestyle sessions feature adult-themed music and practicewear! The learn to skate classes are a hoot!! Show time is 5:15 PM Tuesdays and Thursdays : LTS Three Ringed Circus Saturday mornings 7AM-11AM. People ages 50-95 and those with serious health problems are urged to check with a physician before viewing .

I give Dookie@the Parks 5 stars based on entertainment value!

This is a great value ice skating rink. They have classes and hockey, plus sometimes they do shows and competitions. It is fun to skate and sometimes they offer all day skating at great prices. It is fun for the family or just shop while your kids enjoy the ice.

The Ice at the Parks is an ice ring in the Parks Mall in Arlington. It is a full size hockey sized rink. They have hockey practice and figure skating lessons there at times and it is fun to watch. But they also have free skate hours where anyone can go out and skate for a fee. You can rent skates or brings yours from home. There are all skill levels on the ice at once so you have to be careful. If you are a beginner, I would not go on a weekend night or saturday afternoon because that is when they are most crowded.

the closest and one of the best ice rinks is located inside the Parks mall. A great place for the kids and grown ups to skate whenever they want. They also have hockey practice and also teachers teaching how to skate and do figureskating like moves. one of the funnest attractions at the mall. overall great place to go if you love to ice skate but its not cold enough in texas for a frozen lake.

If i wasn't so bad at ice skating, I might go more. Other than that I can at least enjoy watching hockey at night when they practice. the price was pretty reasonable.
