Ratings_icons METHODIST STAY A NIGHTMARE - NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE

I was hospitalized for 3 weeks due to a sprained back. It was the most horrible experience I have ever had at a hospital. My opinion prior to that was that Methodist was the only hospital I would ever go to and had several prior surgeries there. I was in for a rude awakening. All except 2 or 3 nurses were extremely rude and had an attitude. I was totally bedridden and was kept on a regular schedule of pain injections but 80% of the time I got no relief when I got the injections. I was in excruciating pain and helpless (I'll never be alone in a hospital again). I began to notice that when certain nurses (including the nursing supervisor) gave me the injections I got no relief and a couple of others (2) that gave me injections and I ALWAYS felt relief. When I would complain that it didn't feel like I had received any pain medicine the nurses would just mumble that they had given me the medicine and walk out. I asked to speak to the nursing supervisor & the patient coordinator supervisor and they were nice enough but refused to do anything. Finally, I asked to speak to the pharmacist and she arranged it so the nurses would have to come into my room to inject me with a sealed vial and fill the syringe in front of me. After that I got pain relief with each injection. This was proof to me that they were taking my pain medication and injecting me with either saline or ? They were all angry with me for speaking to the pharmacist and I was pretty much ignored. Another bad experience while I was in there was that I was injected with a drug called Seroquel that caused a violent reaction in me causing me to not be able to sleep, tremors, excessive sweating, rapid heartbeat and felt as if I was going to die. I related this to the dr and he didn't believe me even though the nurses had witnessed what happened. Still, I was injected with this drug two more times even after I told them what happened but the nurses came into my room in the middle of the night while I was asleep and injected me before I could wake up. I had two more violent reactions which would last for 24 hours. When I was admitted I told them I was allergic to morphine but I found out days later (after excessive, constant itching) that they were injecting me with it. Instead of switching me to another form of pain medication that I am not allergic to, they injected me with Benedryl to help with the itching. I will NEVER go to Methodist again and I have told my friends, family co-workers and neighbors about my horrible experience there. It is NOT the hospital it used to be.

My father had cardiovascular surgery by Dr. Lowrie and I was very impressed by the care he received. Dr. Lowrie, his P.A., Janine and all of the nursing staff were extremely professional, attentive and humane. From the day he entered until admission, my father was in excellent hands. Thank you all so very much!

I only had outpatient surgery and I was treated just as any overnight patient would have been. I was put into a regular private room. Nice and clean. Friendly and attentive nurses and all other staff. I even had nurses entertaining me when my Dr. was delayed. Would not hesitate to use Methodist again.

PROS: Very friendly nurses and staff
CONS: Valet parking was full when we got there. Rooms could use a bit of updating

I had heard such wonderful things about Methodist that I thought it would be an outstanding hospital. A friend of mine was having surgery and asked if I would stay the night with her. I thought it an odd request, but of course agreed to. Then I found out why she wanted someone there. The nurses were totally inattentive after her surgery. My friend was taken to the room and no one came by for about 4 hours. I was stunned as I have spent a lot of time with my husband in a couple of hospitals and it was rare to ever go 4 hours without someone stopping by, much less immediately following a major surgery. The doctors were nice enough, when they came by. The room was very nice and everything seemed clean. I just expected more attention to be paid to someone after major surgery.

I had surgery at this hospital. Post-op, I was in a private room that was fairly large. Their was no extra charge for the private room, and my husband could have easily stayed with me if I needed him. The nursing staff was excellent; very attentive and kind. I would choose this hospital over most of the others in the area.

I was not that pleased with the patient care I saw at this hospital. My uncle was admitted and the nurses were always not around when he was calling them. Some of the nurses there were very rude. Some area of the hospital, you could see was very dirty. I went to one of the bathrooms on the 2nd floor and it was filty. I THINK this hospital needs a little training or some effort to make the patients feel a little better. I was not impressed with this hospital.
