Never again

by Roni C.

I moved here from NJ and asked them for a "Brooklyn", but ended up with a "Round-Rocklyn" (bad....very bad!!!). The haircuts are inexpensive, but if they don't know what a fade is, they shouldn't say they can do it. Don't go here unless you really just want an army-issued buzz-cut.

Great cut!!

by James H.

A friend of mine recommended this place for me. The place was clean and everyone was friendly. I got a haircut and they talked me into a manicure (weird cause I'm a guy). The haircut went off without a hitch. They took a while, but what do you expect, it's a school and the girls are learning. The instructor was right there the whole time. Very professional. The manicure was really cool, too. All that for ten bucks!! I'll definitely be back.

Amazing!!!

by Nichole G.

I've been there 2 or 3 times. I like my hair a little crazy some times and its hard to find someone up to the task, but they've done a fantastic job for me. Its cheap too, so that's even better.

Horrible haircut

by Phillip M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 11,669

I thought I'd give this place a try after a friend of mine recommended it. BIG MISTAKE! They did a terrible job on my hair, and my haircut is very easy normally. It took the girl over an hour to completely butcher my hair, even with an instructor there with her. It was a very bad experience.

Yikes they cut all my hair off - Thank Goodness I'm a guy!

by Albert W. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,310

My wife suggested I go to the beauty college for a cheap haircut and give it a try. What the heck, it's right down the street. Ok, never again! The girl wasn't paying attention to "alittle off the top" and low and behold I have 1/2" of hair on my head. Gonna have to wear a hat for awhile but I learn from my mistakes. Sorry Dear!

PROS: Right down the street
CONS: Don't have a clue how to cut hair even with the instructor there!

Hair Cuts at Beauty School

by Nan K. | insider Insider | Rank: 23,715

Great place to get inexpensive hair cuts for children through senior citizens. Walk-ins accepted. Only senior students used and double checked by the teacher. NIce and clean and rapid service.

Great hair for a great price by great students

by smiling08

It seems that "asianflav" thought she was in a New York upscale hair salon. This is a low-price beauty college...what were you expecting? I have gone there at least 5-6 times to get a haircut and colored. I have never been dissapointed. The only downside is you have to allow plenty of time because it does take a long time, as they are still learning and trying to get it right! I get my hair done at a higher price salon most of the time but when I am strapped for money and have time I won't hesitate to stop by the college. Great job ladies...good luck!

Pros: Great price!

Cons: The hours

Great low-cost haircuts and highlights

by mandeo

I have been to the CTBC three times now, and have been impressed with all three visits. Each time I had a haircut (around $5, I think), and 2 of those I also had highlights (around $35-40?). Very professional work. They take their time to get it right (translate to give this experience twice as long as you would if you were to go to a full-running salon!), but remember they ARE students! The first time, they did mess up the color on my bags a little, but it was "cover-up"able).
I especially like going here because I am somewhat particular about my hairstyles, and like to have the final word, whereas going to a salon or veteran hairstylist, most of the time they think they know better, and end up doing what they want anyways!
I will continue to use the CTBC for their great value hair services. With 4 children, good deals are crucial to find!!!
On a side note, I haven't used their other services (waxing, facials, perms) except once got a nail fill there. That wasn't the best experience, but I typically only get solar nails/fills, and they only did acrylic. So, they lasted only about a week since I am so hard on my nails. But, if you are just looking for acrylics for a special event and don't care if they last a long time, then this is a good option for a small price! (I think it was like $8).
The students and instructors were all very nice and accomodating!

Pros: GREAT value!!

Cons: Give yourself lots of time to be there.

Shouldn't even be allowed to call itself a SCHOOL

by asianflav

This school is a joke. If you want someone that speaks english, go somewhere else. Not to mention the completely ridiculous lady that is supposedly the director of the school. Nothing is nicer than having her SCREAM accross the very large room at the students while they are doing your hair because she is obviously too lazy to get out of her tiny office. And even though you are paying for your service, They are all way to cheap to allow the students to use any product on you. I have seen them add water to the lotions. Gross. If you want a cheap haircut/mani/pedi or even hair color from a student that has great potential but has to run around for about ten minutes trying to find a teacher that may or may not help much, then go there. If you want to save money, buy a box of Loreal and save yourself some gas.

Pros: Great education opportunities for Low income minorities

Cons: Pic one

AS THE CLIENT

by jkinard

I went to another school in another school in Austin for a trim and was disappointed with the experience. The girl who timmed my hair did an okay job but the girl next to her had to translate for her. This week I took my 2 daughters in to CTBC and was very happy with the entire visit. Both girls had cuts and I had a wax. All 3 students did wonderful jobs. If you are on a budget this is a great way to save a few $$'s
