Ron and his team provided exceptional customer service with honesty and integrity including great mechanic work. I was quite surprised how genuine Ron was. He and his team were very thorough and kept me informed every step of the way. There were no surprise costs. An honest mechanic does not come around to often; I highly recommend this shop.
I have taken several of my automobiles to Ron at the Gene Brown on Grissom Rd. Since I personally rebuilt my car, I am very meticulous about who I take it to, and what is done to the car. Ron and his staff not only took pride in their work, but they took great care of my 1968 Chevelle and treated it like it was their own.\r

Thanks to the honest, timely and fairly priced work Gene Brown performs, I feel like I have a local automotive shop to call on when I have a problem that I cannot fix myself. \r

I would and have recommended Gene Brown to several of my friends, and you can trust Ron and his crew as well.\r
I have been coming to Gene Brown for quite some time now. I have several cars that I bring here. I typically hate going to auto-repair shops. I always feel like I get cheated by savvy mechanics who know more than I do about cars. However, when I came to Gene Brown, I felt like I was respected. They really appreciated my business. The mechanics took care of my every need. They showed me prices and encouraged me to research on my own so that I could get the best deal. While I was waiting, I even met the owner of the business. He was a very genuine man. He asked me about my car and ensured that I was receiving the best possible prices and service!
I hate having car problems, so I can't say that I hope I come back soon, but when I do have car problems, I'm coming to Gene Brown again!
Also, beware of comments in all caps. They might think they're making everyone notice how important their comment is, but everyone just reads: I AM TROLLZZZ
I have been using Gene Brown Automotive for over 2 years. I have always experienced exceptional service. Ron has always to accomidate me and make sure my care is ready ontime....I have referred my friends and co-workers to him.
Recently had a work vehicle repaired here. Installed a new motor, transmission, struts, etc... Price was fair. Great customer service. I would recommend Gene Brown anytime. Thanks!!!
THIS SHOP IS A FRAUD. THEY HAVE PROBLEMS PROVIDING YOU WITH INVOICES TO NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY THEY DO ON YOUR VEHICLE. I TOOK MY VEHICLE HERE 3 DIFFERENT TIMES TO HAVE THEM CORRECT A PROBLEM ON MY OVERHAUL AND ON THE THIRD VISIT, THEY TOOK MY INVOICE AWAY AND ASSAULTED ME AND MY HUSBAND. THEY DO NOT HONOR THEIR WORK. THEY CHARGE SO MUCH MONEY BECAUSE ""PARTS"" ARE SO EXPENSIVE, BUT THEY FAIL TO PUT IN THE ""NEW"" PARTS IN. THEY PAINT OR REPLACE WITH USED PARTS. IF THEY CAN'T FIND YOUR PARTS USED, THEN THEY JUST PAIN YOUR OWN FACTORY PARTS AND SINCE YOU ARE NOT GOING TO OPEN UP YOUR OWN TRANSMISSION, THEY GET AWAY WITH IT. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, DON'T GO HERE. RON GUTIERREZ IS A FRAUD.
I took my civic in before to get the a/c recharge and was treated very friendly by the staff. Not only does A/C work great, I asked them about rotating my tires and they did it for free! Definitely will bring my car back in for further repairs!
In October of 2010 my car would not start to save my life...lol...i called around and got some prices and the price at Gene Brown was a little bit higher and didnt include towing. He said I will beat their price and include towing. So I went with them. In the end they fixed my problem in 1 day and I used them again for some problems this year. Unfortunately they dont know it yet but I am going to need to fix my ac on my honda civic next week. lol...I would not take my car to anyone else. The thing I like about Ron is that he spoke to my dad who is a mechanic for our county hwy dept all the way in Indiana to explain what the problem was and what he was fixing before he did it. So thanks to Gene Brown!! :)
My experience at this shop was really good. I called in the morning, he said that he's be able to get me in right away and guaranteed the best price in town. Which he did, he was already the lowest price, I called about 3 other shops and they were going to charge me about 100 dollars more then this place. I took my car in at 10am and got my car back the same day at 3pm. The work was excellent, very well done. I am very pleased. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. I would recommend this place for anyone who is experience car troubles.
I had been looking for an honest affordable price and finally found what I was looking for at Gene Brown on Grissom. Ron and his crew went above and beyond to make sure I got great service and more. My car is running beautifully now and I paid $350 less than the dealership. Check this place out before you get screwd by other mechanics. Good to know that I live up the street to an honest mechanic shop. Hey thanks Ron and thank your crew as well....you guys are awsome!!!\r
Run, Don't Walk!!!
Hands down the best experience Ive ever had with car repairs. No one likes it when there care breaks down or needs to be serviced, but I literally rest easier knowing that when it does happen I have the perfect place to go. I have always been treated fairly and honestly be Gene Brown Transmission.
The first thing I seen when I walked in, was corvette everything. Chairs neon lights and two corvettes outside owned by the owner. These people knew about corvettes. After going to so many garages to have my clutch installed. To be called back an told (I didnt know corvettes had shafts like that). In the begaining I was leery. But when I went to pick my car up I was amazed at what they did. They just didnt install my clutch. They cleaned every part to look like new. There wasnt a spot of grease on my tranny or bell housing. My vette wont go anywhere else.
Very professional, courteous, and patient to explain necessary repairs on my car. Never tried to upsale and encourage unnecessary services. Total comfort level working with Ron. $ saved through Gene Brown versus Mercedes dealership is phenomenal; would highly recommend to any/everyone! Personal service provided is so rare in a city this big--can't speak highly enough :)

Ron Gutierrez, owner of Gene Brown has kept my familys cars running for many, many years. I keep my cars for a long time. I just replaced 1997 Maxima that I owned for 11 years. Ron gave the car a complete inspection before I purchased it. Thanks to Ron, I was able to keep it running well with only standard maintenance; no major repairs. You can bet I got Rons input before purchasing my new car. As a single parent and raised two children to adulthood. They went through many cars and needed lots of repairs. Ron always came through for us. Ron is responsive and trustworthy, does quality work in a timely manner at a fair price. And, in any business transaction, thats all you can ask for.
Very good experience at this shop. Spoke to Ron himself and explained what was going on and the problem was fixed within 30 minutes. You never have to worry about these guys selling you any parts you don't need. This shop is very reliable and I highly recommend it!
Pros: Very reliable!
Great experience hands down. The staff was polite and professional. My vehicle was in and out in no time, and i felt confident with the work done. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend my friends and family.
Pros: Fast and Courteous
The people at Gene Brown's are fantastic. They are very respectful, while listening to your problems. They will go that extra mile if you need help getting your car to them. No high ball prices, the price they say, is the the price you pay, unless it's less. We will always take our cars and trucks to Gene Brown's Transmissions.
Pros: honset, fare pricing, respectful, timely
Cons: Havn't found any
I have had numerous excellent experiences with Gene Brown Transmission. They have truly helped me with my vehicle in my times of need. The owner Ron is friendly, approachable, and easy to work with. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful as well. My car had a major manufacturer malfunction and when I called Gene Brown, they towed my car same day, no questions asked. They called me with the problem and had it fixed and back to me in no time! I really appreciate this company's customer service and professional attitude. I would recommend them anyday. Thanks again Gene Brown Transmission and staff!!
Pros: Friendly Staff, Very Professional, Good Rates!
I own a 1992 Jeep Cherokee that I inherited when my Grandfather passed a few years ago. Because my grandfather barely drove the thing, it was in pretty good shape for an 18 year old vehicle. I believe it only had about 80K miles on it when I took ownership. So, I received a great vehicle with a great deal of sentimental value.
Well, about a month ago, I was driving it to work and I noticed that the transmission in my dear old deceased grandfather's Cherokee wasn't shifting properly. It seemed to ""hard"" shift through the gears but only at high RPM's and would no longer go into 4th gear at all.
I called a few transmission shops and ultimately took it to a shop on the Northwest side which I will not name. The were quite helpful and even arranged for a rental car which they would even pay for after I picked up my Cherokee. Two days later, they called me and said they needed to ""open up my transmission"". They gave me a pre-repair estimate of $1900.
Well, me being on a very tight budget, I wasn't able to afford the repair. I was forced to pay them a $224 ""diagnostic"" fee and because they didn't repair my Cherokee, I also had to pay $104 for my rental car. So, I had no choice, I dropped another $60 bucks and had my Cherokee towed to my apartment off Bandera. My total bill so far... $384 and transmission not any different from when I dropped it off for repair.
A few days passed and I started thinking that I might wanna get a second opinion. I opened up the phone book and called the closest shop to my apt. Gene Brown Transmission on Grissom. I described the problem as best I could to the person and he seemed to have heard of my problem before and from what he thought, might be an easy fix.
I hobbled my ol' Cherokee over to Gene Brown and while I waited, one of the tech's jumped on my car. In about 20 minutes, the tech came up front and stated that it was just something called a ""Throttle Position Sensor"" and it just needed to be replaced..
They ordered this part from Jeep... about $80 bucks and they promptly replaced it.. Well, to my sheer amazement, the truck shifted perfectly!! I couldn't believe I was almost scammed by the other transmission shop and was thanking my pathetic bank account for not having the 2 grand those crooks over at the other shop wanted to fix a $150 problem.
I can't say enough good things about these guys, they promptly fixed my dear old grandfather's Cherokee and were completely honest and straight about the solution..
Thanks again guys!!!
Pros: Honesty in a business known for taking advantage of people
Cons: I didn't find them first....
I was taking a long drive into San Antonio and planning on a Thursday afternoon arrival. My final destination would be the Drury Inn, on 1604 and Stoneoak. Shortly after arriving into San Antonio, at the Marbach exit on 1604 my car had traveled as far as it would take me. I had no way of knowing what company would take care of my situation, so on my phone I simply looked up automotive shops. I was lucky enough to pick the right one. The gentleman on the phone was so personable and understanding. I knew instantly that I would be taken care of immediately. I explained my location and where I needed to be. He located me at an HEB and drove me to his shop with the tow truck following behind. When we arrived at his shop, he tried to explained all the necessary procedures needed to fix my car and lent me a vehicle while he took care of mine. Wow, what service! As a woman, these situations tend to always make me nervous, and it didn't help that I was out of town. I was in town on business so my mind was not always on my vehicle, but that's O.K because he kept me updated and allowed me to make the necessary decisions for my vehicle. He kept my vehicle long enough to fix it just right and shocked me with such a reasonable price. The gentleman's name is Ron and I' m so thankful that he did such a remarkable job taking care of me and my vehicle. I often take this trip to San Antonio and only hope that this situation does not occur again. But if it does, Ron from Gene Brown is the one to call.
Pros: Dependable, Reliable and oh so Trustworthy
Cons: Absolutely none!
Normally, I don't write reviews but these guys deserve kudos for a wonderful experience with a bad situtation. I went to a ford dealership for regular maintence for my Expedition. When the ford employee brought the truck he informed me that the transmission just went out! After I paid for the maintence work they wanted to fix my transmission....Now keep in mind I had no transmission problems when I dropped off the truck. I told Ford no!!! I called Gene Brown Transmission. I spoke to a guy name Ron and he told me that they would pick up my truck at the ford dealership. Once we got to there location....they gave me a ride home! Talk about service. Needless to say I did have a transmission problem and Gene Brown did the repair. Today, my truck is running great! I take my truck there for all services!! Kudos to the guys at Gene Brown transmission.
Pros: Great customer service!
I am new to this city and I find the people here very mean. My 1999 Honda Accord broke down at 1604 and bandera at night. I contacted Gene Brown Transmission and they had my vehicle towed in 20 minutes. Ron the manager had a driver pick me up the next morning to take me to work. I had an estimate by that afternoon. When I picked up my vehicle Ron took me on a test drive detailing each repair. The mechanic had my old parts in a box. I am grateful that I contacted Gene Brown Transmission the night my vehicle broke down.
Pros: available 24/7
My expierence was quite different. I am new to this city and I find the people here very mean. My 1999 Honda Accord broke down on 1604 and bandera at night. I contacted Gene Brown Transmission and they had my vehicle towed with in 20 minutes.. Ron the manager had a driver pick me up in the next morning to take me to work. I had an estimate by that afternoon. My transmission was not shifting properly and my starter had failed. When I picked up my vehicle Ron took me on a test drive detailing each repair. The mechanic had my old parts in a box. I am very grateful that I contacted them the night my vehicle broke down.
Pros: Towing service 24/7
Save yourself a lot of agrivation and avoid Gene Brown's. After my car's tranny went out I called around. The owner was very nice with a lot of yes sir no sir. As soon as he got my car his demeanor changed. My car took over a week and I could not get an invoice on exactly what work was done. To top it off the car would not downshift when I left the shop! So they had to keep it longer. Two months later my tranny began to leak and shudder. I took it back and they wanted to argue that the warranty was void. They ""fixed"" it again and within a week it was leaking again. I took it to a real mechanic who pointed out five things they had screwed up. That mechanic fixed it and it's working fine. These guys are scam artists. Stay away!
Pros: Several locations
Cons: Deceptive business practices / poor work
