Visited this restaurant last night and I was ill after it. I ordered the Calamari (starter) as my main course. I knew the shrimp was not fresh - but I did not want to say anything. Such a pity because the hostess was lovely, our waiter was extremely nice - but I think it is probably best to stick with something that has to be cooked from order - play safe.
I know that River Oaks as a certain love for the off beat, but when I go to a restaurant that is a chain I have a certain expectation that I will be able to get some of the same favorites as another in that chain. Not at this Carrabba's.
Carrabba's is an Italian Restaurant, but this one does not have Caesar Dressing, no really I LOVE Carrabba's Caesar dressing. I normally get their Caesar Salad, so imagine my disappointment when I could not get it there at all.
Now I did get another item and it was good, but their menu is completely different from that of a normal Carrabba's restaurant. The food was good, but not Carrabba's.
Moral of the story...if you want good somewhat Italian food, it is good. If you want Carrabba's Italian food, this location is not for you.
Cons: Not the Same as Other Carrabba's
The atmosphere was family friendly. We had reservations so we were seated right away. Our waiter, Mr. Carrabba himself was very helpful and knowledgeable. The food was so so exquisite. I rate the service to be A+.
Although the other locations are not as good as this particular location. I recommend 3115 Kirby Carrabba's only.
Pros: Food was delicious
The food is great. Period. The service was bungling a bit, drinks a little slow, wrong salads, wrong drinks.
All taken care of pretty quick. Only reason I mention it was because it was so many times.
Our table was near the kitchen and so we were nearly shouting to be heard a couple of times. The restaurant was very busy so I attribute it to that. An affable waiter that was a bit distracted. In spite of that he did his job and we did tip in the 20% range.
First time there and was impressed with the taste and quantity of our food choices.
Would recommend to anybody.
Pros: Great food!
Cons: Loud atmosphere, hard to talk
This was my second trip to Carrabba's. I went a couple of years ago and was greatly disappointed; however, after receiving a gift card...I decided to give them one more try. Unfortunately, nothing has changed. The food is just as bad as it was a couple of years ago. I don't understand why so many people flock there...I'm assuming it's because of habit, it definitely can not be because of the food. If you want good pasta, go to LaStrada. Everything I have tried there is excellent and the prices are comparable to Carrabba's. You won't be disappointed and feel like you have gotten ripped off.
Pros: Good service, friendly staff
Cons: The food
Awful. We went here specifically to get the Italian wedding cake, which we like. They didn't have it, but we went ahead and had dinner anyway. However, the chicken bryan wasn't cooked at all and so we had to ask them to take it back and cook it some more. We over looked this and went back the next night because I was craving the Carrabas wedding cake. Again, they didn't have it, but what I did get was very sick from their meat sauce and sausage pasta! 3 days later I stll have fever and I am throwing up. I hate to pay 60 plus 10 dollar tip for two people and then have them give me some old awful food that we had to throw before even getting home because of the stench in the car. Really peeved about this. Missing work and contemplating going to the hospital.
I've been dining at THIS Carrabba's (Kirby) for 20+ years, and it has NEVER failed to impress!! Yes, there is always a wait. Yes, it's crowded and noisy. But THIS Carrabba's is one of the things that gives Houston it's charm. The food is ALWAYS delicious, the service is ALWAYS terrific, and the atmosphere is ALWAYS fun and lively. Tonight, I tried somthing different, based on a recommendation: pappaderelle pasta with sausage & peppers. Oh.My.GOSH. Delicious!!! And the house salad....no, it's not a traditional Caesar. It's 1000 times better!! The bread and the olive oil mix, the wine list, I could go on...in short, Carrabba's Kirby is hands-down, one of my top 5 favorite all-time Houston restaurants!!
Pros: Food, service, peach bellinis, open kitchen
I routinely eat at the Carrabba's at Woodway and Voss. One of the two restaurants owned by the originial creators. I haven't been to the one on Kirby yet. I absolutely love this restaurant!! Everything I try is wonderful, though I most often choose the salad with goat cheese and grilled eggplant and add grilled chicken. My favorite salad bar none. Everytime I take a business associate to lunch, this is the place I choose. This location is never crowded and you don't have to wait for a table. The prices are a teensy bit high, but the taste is worth it. One of the Carrabba's sons is usually around working in the restaurant and if you're lucky, so is Mama Carrabba!!
I think that EVERY other Carrabba's in America is better than this one. A real Carrabba's has an amazing Caesar salad, which isn't even on the menu here. My wife ordered one without looking at the menu, and the waiter brought out a house salad, perhaps thinking she woudln't notice. We were charged for it, too. I say, "Shenannegans!" I also noticed that the prices are a few dollars higher. It may be worth the drive to ANY other Carrabba's. It's a shame that this IMPOSTER is so close to my home. And don't give me that nonsense about this being the first Carrabba's. I don't care if it is. Should I feel privileged to order from a limited menu and pay more just because this restaurant spawned restaurants with the same name that are actually pleasant?
Went to Carrabba's a couple of Sundays ago with my 16 yr old daughter. We waited about 20 minutes to be seated. Once we got to the table we shared calamari for the appetizer. For entrees, we had fettucine alfredo and osso buco.
I have been coming to the Kirby locstion since it first opened, and had a great time as always. Only complaint is that the everything keeps getting spicier as the years go by, sort of like Molina's. I mean don't fix what ain't broke.
Cons: getting a little spicy
I recently visited for lunch and sitting outside on the patio in Mid October reminds me why Houston is great this time of year. Try to get their early for lunch. By the time we left, the place was packed. They do offer complimentary parking or there is a lot across the street. I had the chicken special which came with a salad. The lettuce was so crisp and it was a unique flavor which I was trying to pinpoint the taste. It may have been apple or something sweet but it was so tasty. They have a chicken dish with goat cheese and sundried tomatoes which was so delicious. Even if it was lunch, I had to order their cappuccino and a piece of Tiramisu which melted in your mouth! I highly recommend Carrabba's.
I recommend this Carrabbas. It is a perfect place to bring your boyfriend or girlfriend, a very good romantic atmosphere. I ate at this restaurant on a Saturday evening after attending the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Carnival, and it was very crowded. Plenty of people. I waited about 10 minutes for a table of 3. but It was worth the wait. Excellent service. Perfect for large parties of people. The food is the best Italian food I have ever tasted. IT is very highly recommended. So attend!
Pros: Food, Service, Value
Cons: Not seated promptly
If you are a late nighter and want something to eat at. then come here where the staff are kind and have a sense of humor. The price is really cheap and they serve things that you proberly havent even heard of yet
The original and the best. Fun atmosphere, excellent service and phenominal food. The Chicken Bryan Texas is my norm and is hard to get away from. Tasty calamari for starters and desserts that melt in your mouth.
Carrabba's is a great restaurant for Italian food. The service is swift and everything I've had on the menu is excellent (even the pizzas). Sometimes it's crowded, but you can always find a seat at the bar and enjoy a cocktail first. One time, I saw Mario Lopez (AC Slater from "Saved by the Bell") sitting at the table next to us. That was neat !
This is my third review of Carrabba's, and each time I write one, the previous comments get deleted. But, as a regular customer, I continue to write about this place because I love the food and service. Just about every item on the menu is fabulous. Johnny Rocco salad, the fish, veal, and all of the pasta dishes are tops. But even better than the food is the service---From the valet guy who always wears a big smile, to Kim and company greeting you at the door, to the outstanding bar service from Dan and Shannon, and to the multitude of experienced and friendly servers. The food alone does not keep this place consisently packing 'em in. It's the employees who really make this place sparkle.
Pros: skilled and charming bartenders (Dan/Shannon), variety of parking options, excellent food, reliable wait staff, Kim
My husband and I arrived at 7:20PM on Saturday evening (July 22). We were told there would be a one hour wait. We grabbed a couple of Peroni's from the bar and moved out to the patio. An hour 10 minutes later my husband checked with the hostess and received an apology and told it would be another 20 minutes. We grabbed two more beers from the bar and waited. Another 30 minutes and other parties being called that arrived later than us prompted me to check with the hostess again. She said another hostess called our name (NOT True) and promised we would get the next table. We'd already been lied to three times and decided to finally go elsewhere. We will never return.
Well city search readers, this one really is worth making a trip. The pesto and complementary bread is really tasty and delicious. As for their traditional Italian dishes like spaghetti and their pasta carraba (fettuccine) it really has a great simple and perfect taste. The baked pasta is also really good, so try it. So in conclusion, this place is worth. . . bottom line.
Pros: Pasta carraba, marinara, calamari
Cons: The place is a little pricy
This place is not for serious eaters.
The waiters don't know the menu and don't even try to find out the answers to your important questions about the food and drinks. The food is nothing special.
The minestrone is horrible! Sorry I ordered that twice.
I do recommend the Antipasto Misto appetizer though - love the eggplant number on that dish.
BUT still I ask WHY DO PEOPLE WAIT more than 30 mins to eat here?
Pros: good antipasto
Cons: bad minestrone, uninformed waiters, mediocre italian
Waht is the rave all about??? it's just an average italian eaterie. it's more like a gathering place than anything else. The drinks are terrible, the food is average, the prices are way too high, the service depends sometimes good, sometimes bad. Too crowded with people who just want to be seen. It will be a while before i recommend this place again (a long while)
Cons: expensive, crowded, snobby hostesses, average waitstaff
Wonderful service, great staff....and FOOD....to Die for...My family loves Carraba's on
KIRBY....Can't speak for the others...A+++++ all the way
Bad service, okay food, not up to the standards they think they are.
They have the best grilled pork chops and shrimp osiel (off the menu item). They also have a great staff and management who will follow up with you if a problem occurs.
I highly recommend Carrabba's
Found everything very mediocre. Server was snooty, as though we were somewhere other than a chain restaurant. Food was slow arriving and overly salted. Prices were too high for the quality.
I have been to several locations; the worst by far being the Kirby location. The food is OK, but would probably taste just a little better if you did not have to contend with rude, inept, condesending and just plain BAD service. The Hostess greets you with an attitude of the worst sort. The wait staff is equally off putting and on one occasion when I made an attempt to bring this to the attention of the management...... well, needless to say they were no better than the people they had working for them. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR. GO SOMEPLACE ELSE.
Cons: Terrible service, Snotty, rude hostess, inattentive managemen
Carraba's has got to be one of the worst Italian restaurants in the U.S. Their dishes are "ordinary" at best. Their deserts are less than ordinary, and their service is unacceptable. Being a full-blooded Italian (1/2 Sicilian) from the Chicago Area, I can tell you that if Houstonians think Carraba's is the best in Houston, then they certainly have a very limited appreciation of what GOOD Italian food is.
The Carrabba's in Webster in my opinion is the best. The one on Kirby is just a little stuck on themselves. Daniel and his troops do a wonderful job. Food is fantastic and the service can not be beat. I'm from Galveston and eat here often enough to know most of the wait staff and cooks by name. This place is better than sliced bread!
Pros: inexpensive, plenty of parking, friendly
Rude hostess, rude bartender, rude waiter, food out of a can with too much oregano.
The Carrabba's on Kirby is the best Italian food Restaurant in Houston and deserves all the awards it recieves. What place can you go to to get great food, great service and be in a great Atmosphere.
I was'nt big on Italian cusine but Carabas changed that Excellent grilled porkchops!!
Pros: Priced perfectly, lwrge tables
Cons: not enough parking
I love absolutely everything I've ever eaten at Carrabba's! The house salad is awesome, and I would recommend the Pork-chops Marsala or the Chicken Bryan Texas. The sampler appetizer (can't remember what they call it) is fun and yummy too!
Good place to eat OK food, but best Italian? Please. Try another Carrabba/Mandola dynasty restaurant...La Mora! You can find real Italian food of Tuscany here in a romantic setting.
Carrabba's is by for the best Italian Restaurant in town. I am very big into the way a place makes you feel, and the atmoshere at Carrabba's is un matched. And the food is as well. I can't explain it, you just have to go see and taste for yourself. You'll never want to go to a different Italian restaurant again. It is the best!!!!!
I used to be impressed with Carraba's, but that was before I knew what good Italian food was. The only reason it got high marks here, is because Carraba's caters to the usual crowd that thinks it's discriminating. No real Italian food connoisseur would eat here.
Pros: olive oil fixings
Cons: need better dishes, "el dante"
Don't get me wrong. Carrabba's is not bad, but this review is in response to its victory over all other Italian restaurants. Carrabbas has a great house salad, the calamari is delicious, and the Chicken Kickerillo is not even on the menu, but what most people have come to expect from Carrabbas is the same exact, somewhat bland, and uninventive cuisine. I will continue to run to Carrabbas when forced, but I have long ago learned that on Thursday evening, you are not going for the quality of food, but to watch the bar scene.
We have been there several times both for business and family dinners. Foods were always mediocre at best, though not bad either. Most dishes we tried were just too greasy. Looks quite popular for some reason. We were once asked to wait 2 hours, and I said we just leave. The hostess immediately showed a unhappy look.
I have not eaten in an Italian restaurant anywhere that was comparable to Carrabba's.
Pros: Good friendly service, Excellent food
Cons: Too loud, Crowded at peak hrs
The fumes from your pick up trucks and too much sun must have gotten to you fools who rated this place #1. While not terrible, this is a chain restaurant. The food is average, but no better than any other chain such as an Olive Garden.
My husband and I absolutely love Carrabba's. We have visited several in the Houston area and each one gets a thumb up. We have yet to find another Italian restaurant that compares. We've tried many of the well known restaurants in Houston and they all seem to come up short.
I can't believe this restaurant won best Italian restaurant over Damian's and Arcodoro. There is no comparison. Damian's should have placed first and Arcodoro second.
Doesn't deserve a number one rating! Our location in The Woodlands is one of the worst Carraba's I have been to. The menu needs some serious changes. They have had the same items for over 10 years. Boring.
My wife, kids and I have been enjoying Carrabba's Katy FRWY location fo years and have yet to be dissappointed. We think that that location has the mussels in the world (including Franc, Italy and Kirby location). Recently Johnny himself held sway for an evening and was every bit as charming and cordial as he is on TV. My wife told him how good the mussels were here and how much more attractive he is in person. He responded, " now you sound like my grandmother!" Great restaurant!! Good people!!
Pros: good food, great waiters, great take-out
outstanding food, we have never been sorry for eating there, good service, best Italian in town
Pros: excellent food, good service
Cons: some what expensive
Great casual place, but certainly not best of Houston. I recommend it for a reasonable meal, but don't go on a weekend if you're in a hurry.
Pros: Good food, Great for the price
Carrabba's on Kirby has great chicken dishes (Mama Rosa's) and fantastic Lentle soup. The atmosphere is so "up" You feel good when you are there and the service has always been good.
Cons: no reservations
Excellent value for price. All the food was served promtly, with the service being very prompt.
There is so much hype surrounding Carrabba's and it's not justified. The food is not bad, but it does not justify all of this hype. Suffice to say that the "sheep" mentality of the average Houstonite is still going strong. I have been there a few times and have been disappointed time and time again. Case in point? Order the pork chop and you get a poor cut of pork (the T-Bone! how stupid!).. Now, let me explain.. a GOOD resturant would never use that cut of meat for a pork chop.... BECAUSE there is a HUGE T-bone in the middle of it.. That's what I call a "Ghetto Pork Chop".. Im not shelling out $18 for a "Ghetto" cut of meat that I can get off of a sunday morning barbeque pit. This place is a joke, over-rated and their chefs use a T-Bone cut for a pork chop..
Pros: Good Service
Cons: Expensive, Bad Cooking
