The Humane Society took a puppy I took to them to put up for adoption and turned it over to the ACS/SAPA/PetHarbor/Certain Death, to be put down just because it was chipped from their location. Also providing misinformation on the dogs location for weeks and still putting her up on your website as late as 07/06. I could have saved her if I was provided correct information the first time I called. I will be sharing this on every pet rescue blog, FB, website, etc, Sienna pet id#16455245. Was told yesterday she should. be in the pet pavilion, only to confirm they gave her to SAPA/ASC June 14th., the same day they took her from me and was assured she would get a good home and would call me if her circumstances changed. How many other dogs have you done this same thing to? No Kill? You mean you don't do your own killing! She was a 6 month old beautiful adoptable German Shepard puppy. Shame on you and same on SAPA/ACS!

Executive Director Kathryn Bice of the Humane Society of San Antonio resigned or was removed Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011 without notice after allegations of misuse of funds and false reporting.

In 2009 the shelter lost $1,955,573 according to the 990 for that year. However, their annual report for 2009 does not mention the loss

Additionally, payroll increases spanning four years totaled $786,212. The Humane Society??s 990 report for 2010 lists payroll at $1,681,559 for only 37 full-time and 15 part-time employees at the nonprofit organization.

Regular hourly employees earn only $7.50 to $8.00 per hour. It is extremely questionable as to where the money is going. Nonprofit managers may be paid no more than reasonable wages.

The shelter was selling donated dog food to employees. Science Diet Dog Food was restricted by the company to be given to those adopting pets. Pet items that were donated by individuals were also being sold. Using restricted items or funds for uses other than intended is a violation of tax exempt charities 501(c)(3) rules.

Information provided by the Humane Society to the media and public is often not reliable. In reports of a recent distemper outbreak Director of Communication Cathy McCoy gave different accounts to two TV stations. At first only a few animals were exposed and none were euthanized. But the next day reported that 40 animals contracted the disease and several were euthanized. The situation had been ongoing for more than one month, and as a manager it is extremely unlikely that McCoy had first reported without knowledge.

This organization is in need of a complete independent investigation of records covering the past 3 years.

hi
My name is Joe Fraire II I love animals I have rescued strays from the streets I'd rather take care of them then seeing them on the road dead. I even had a ball python I found I found on the street. A ferret I got from some trailer trash who were just going to let him go anywhere. I love helping animals my goal is to one day be a wild life game warden.

We adopted a a Beagle/Basset after looking at several at several other shelters in San Antonio. The staff was well educated on the animals in the shelter and if they did not have the answers they would find one. They were very well staffed and did not lack in staff. The grounds were well maintained along with the kennels. Their adoption prices are not the least expensive but well worth the cost. The care of their animals come first and it shows. The wait is longer than other shelters to adopt but only because they want the animals to go to the BEST homes. Take a look at the larger dogs - they are so sweet and make great pets and are already trained.

We adopted our puppy there. We didn't have a certain breed in mind but knew we would know our new addition when we saw it. We looked at all ages of dogs and it took us 3 months before we finally found her. The staff was very helpful. Our first choice was going to be too big for us, not to fear they showed us every dog they had in our size range. If you decide you like a dog or cat, be quick. Several we were looking at were adopted before we had a chance to pet them! The price is a little steep, BUT they come fixed, shots current, micro chipped and have insurance. Plus, they run off the adoption donations. We went to other shelters as well who were rude and treated us like we should take what we could get, not what we wanted. I will be adopting from this humane society again.

I adopted a very old and sick little dachshund mix from the Humane Society. The adoption counselor was very attached to this sweet little dog. The facility is exceptional for a shelter. It is probably one of the finest in South Texas. There is a wide variety of dogs and cats to choose from. The counselors will work with you to make sure that you select the pet that is best for your situation. There are a lot of people there so it seems like it takes forever sometimes but it is worth it in the end.

PROS: Convenient, exceptional facility, excellent selection
CONS: lots of paperwork (but is necessary)

The Humane Society has large and small dogs and cats of all breeds. The facility is relatively new and kept very clean. They have different buildings for large and small animals and even a place for animals with special needs. The people who work there are great with the animals and they are very helpful to the people shopping. The price for adoption is not bad.

I know they are doing a good thing...but I have had several serious issues with this humane society. First off, their prices to adopt an animal are too high. I'm surprised they didnt require a blood sample to adopt. Further, when I did sucessfully adopt a kitten, within a week all my other cats were sick. One of my cats got so sick I ended up having to have her put to sleep the DAY I was in the hospital delivering my second child. I would not recommend adopting from this shelter as it possibly could cost you even more money in the long run due to sick animals.

PROS: They're trying to help animals
CONS: Pricey, too many "rules" and their animals are sick!

The Humane society takes in pets in need and places them into homes wanting pets. They make sure pets are spayed or neutered and are started on there vaccinations and deworming. They work off of donations and take as many pets and they have space for. They dont always do a perfect job but all in all they do a great job. The number of pets saved by them is super, hope they keep up the great job.

The humane society is a nice facility to adopt a dog or cat. The place is relatively new and is kept very clean. The workers are extremely friendly and caring for the animals. They let you take the animals out of the cages and show them attention and affection. If you are thinking about adopting an animal this would be a great place to go. The price is reasonable.

I understand them being shorthanded but if the managers stop being mean to the volunteers by treating them like scum of the earth, maybe more people would volunteer there.
