Best School in Katy

by Jenna K.

I love the British Private Prep School. My daughter entered as a preschooler and went on to the Pre-K class 3 days a week. The staff was really supportive and encouraged our family greatly. My daughter would ask every day if it was a school day. I appreciated the owner's commitment to excellence and it really showed up in what she and her friends learned. My daughter entered kindergarten reading among other things and I have to give credit to the school. She now asks frequently to go back to British Private Prep School because she misses it. The classrooms are far nicer than most classes I've seen at Katy ISD. I thought it was really clever the way they rotated to different classrooms. I also liked that the children were asked to behave and that the classes seemed to be having fun but were in order. At a lot of other schools all they seem to do is have free play. It's refreshing that there is a school that has expectations of the students who go there.

British Private Prep School is very international

by Richard S.

This schools playground considering its size is equipped more than adequately with, 11 tricycles/scooters and circular path, large play unit with slide, 2 park benches, picnic table, basketball court and balls. On the playground children are served iced water from a water bottle without touching it to their mouths. No store bought curriculum here, like the Abeka or Higher Reach. Not all, but some staff have degrees. What would child care cost if they all had degrees? Staff are pleasant, Directors have many years of experience. They more than welcome feedback from anyone, it can't be fixed unless they are aware. This school is nearly full with over 180 enrolled and is 98% referral generated.

Poor Facility

by Anonymous H.

Upon touring the British Private Prep School I observed several faults with the facility and staff. The one thing that truly stood out was the poor playground facility. There is minimal equipment an the children where receiving water from a squirt bottle due to no water on the playground. This is very unsanitary and can spread germs quickly. Most of the staff was pleasant, however the young lady that gave the tour was very short and unprofessional. I would not recommend this school to anyone! I chose Child's Reflection, a more adequate school that has a great staff and facility.

VERY POOR FACILITY

by Mario C.

It is a very poor facility. Assistants and helpers are rude, uneducated and careless towards children. Poor supervision.
Management is unorganized. Communication is sporadic. They probably listen to your concerns, but on the long run you realize that they don`t take it into consideration, as nothing change or improve. Your money is just truly welcome!!!
You will find more academics in their curriculum than in most of the preschools in Katy. But, it is inconsistent teaching, and no child psychology is involved at all!!!

All about the money AND control

by Betsy M.

I have had a child at this school. The school itself is clean and organized. The Management/Owners are nice people overall in general. But they are very "annul" about how the school is run. Too much micro-management. The other reviewer commented that it's all about money with them (BPPS). That is very true. They need to relax a little and don't be caught up with the "proper" way to do everything. Let the children experience more that one way ("the proper way!") of doing things. It's a little tooooo British for our family.

Update to "New To Katy" Review (Oct 2008)

by Vanessa H.

I would like to update my review of last October (2008) by saying that in the last three months my daughter has had a very positive experience with her pre-k teacher who is tremendously kind and nurturing and has devoted much time to improving the children's letter recognition, writing and reading of sight-words. I have since October spent a little time in the classroom helping with reading stories and assisting with a Christmas project and have been impressed with the way she keeps the children focused in a busy environment with lots of distractions. The administrative staff are always super friendly and the Director level is interested in parental feedback as a means to identify areas for growth.

Not The Best in Katy

by New To katy T.

My child has been attending the British Prep for a few months on a part-time basis in their Pre-K program. To date, I would describe this school as adequate. The plus points are: a clean and inviting indoor space with a non-institutional feel (unlike some of the other day cares in Katy). The school also offers the standard extras like ballet, gymnastics and Spanish and there are seasonal parties throughout the year as well as field trips. The school falls short in the following areas: whilst the curriculum is impressive on paper, it is not delivered as well as it could be. The staff are not always experienced at teaching their particular level/age and the objectives and output are not paced as thoughtfully and appropriately as they should be. The quality of work that comes home in the back pack is poor and the standard of music and art in the classroom is extremely low. There is also too much reliance upon young and inexperienced teaching assistants who are unusually surly and disinterested in the children. Whilst the indoor facility is pleasing, the outdoor recreational area is limited, consisting only of a small sandy enclosure with a climbing frame and a few ride-on toys. The part-time program is expensive for what it offers compared to somewhere like CrossPoint or Grace Fellowship. This is an average facility.

Great School

by Happy M.

My children have attended British Private Prep school for more than five years now. The classrooms are very bright and well kept. The staff to student ratio is one of the best in Katy. The staff is also caring but structured, firm, and fair. Exactly what I want for my children. The children do not stay in the same room all day which is a big plus for me. My eldest came out ready to excel in the Katy ISD schools and my youngest is on his way to reading success. My kids go in smiling and sometimes I have to tear them away from all their friends.

Ok but very much about the money

by Anonymous

This "school" was kept clean and staff were nice and helpful. They only wanted to serve skim-milk and my preemie 20% percentile child should be having whole- To be able to bring him some from home I had to speak with the director. This should not have been that big of a deal. Also early on I once brought him in on the wrong day and was called two hours later to pick him which I promptly did- however they charged me $38 dollars. This may be their policy but it seemed very nit picky to me. When I asked about this the management started to tell me that I brought him in on the wrong day and I told her I understood that was my fault and I was not HER pupil. I just wanted to let her know that $38 dollars was a little bit too much and that maybe they should cut some slack. As far as learning is concerned- my child hasn't been there long but he seemed to have learned more at gymboree.

good day care; rigid instruction

by Ruth S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 10,891

This is a very good day care. It is clean and has caring staff. It has a typical British approach, more rigid than what most Americans would like, so it is not for everyone. Another mother was upset, though, because they were serving her toddler 2% milk instead of whole, even though doctors in America recommend whole. She had to bring in the whole milk every day for them to give it to her child.
