The Grand Lux has a very big menu. Everything from fried chicken to steaks to some wonderful sandwiches and salads. It's a lot like the Cheesecake Factory. The cool thing about this place is you can get made to order deserts.

Great decor, a vast selection of items on the menu. However, the seating is cramped, If you do not get a booth, you are seated at a table that is very close to the neighboring table. Nonetheless, the service is wonderful. I would recommend their potato spring rolls (appetizer); it is a spring roll filled with potatoes that are in a mashed-like consistency, and topped w/ sour cream, green onion, bacon, and cheese. It's GREAT.

PROS: Parking isn't usually too bad.
CONS: Seating.

This has become one of our favorite restaurants! We never come out of there without doggie bags- so if you want a ton of food for a great price- this is the place to go!. They are always crowded when we go, so be sure to have time (they will usually give you a beeper). We have never been disappointed in their food- everything I have tried has been excellent- esp. the avacado eggrolls. The service is ususlly very quick considering how busy they are. While there you have to save room to try one of their cheesecakes for dessert. They have a WIDE variety and ALL of them are delicious- we've almost made our way down the whole list. Great restaurant, but it is a family place so it's pretty loud, so if it's a quiet dinner you're looking for, don't go.

PROS: Great food at a great price and lots of it!
CONS: Usually a wait time and loud

Absolutely beautiful atmosphere and great food. All the times I have gone whether with friends or alone its always great. Great service great ambiance and great food.

June 24, 2010

It was almost as bad as SW Airlines. We were rushed to order then rushed to leave, leaving my friend and myself to feel like cattle. I'm wondering why I left a good tip. The food was removed from the table before we were through eating without questions of whether we were ready to leave. At least the waitress offered to package the generous leftovers for take-out but she was in such a rush we didn't get to ask her for our bread. Maybe the rush was because we were a party of two women and she wanted better tipper potential. It's no wonder that women are notably bad tippers if the service doesn't deserve a good tip.

Pros: Nice menu selection

Cons: Rushed through

With Eatzi's being gone, the second best place to get to-go desserts that will wow guests is Grand Lux Cafe.

?The Best? a carrot cake w citrus cream cheese icing and the Deep Dark Fudge Cake are good enough to serve at weddings...rich and gorgeous. They also do inscriptions with a thin cookie on the top. These tall, layered cakes serve about 12.

They have these artistic, tall, peaked meringue pies that I have been tempted to try, but when I go to Grand Lux, I am there on a mission.

They will run you about $40 and you will need to call a day ahead to ensure that they have enough. I have called the day of and lucked out though. They thaw them out too. Make sure you inspect the cake when opening the box.

Pros: Desserts

Cons: Expensive

Cons: Loud; parking kinda difficult

December 17, 2009

My first visit to Grand Lux was today and we started ordering right before five in the afternoon. It is a little early for dinner, but my friends and I were hungry so we decided to just eat then. Upon entering, we didn't have to eat and sat at a table immediately. The waiter was very informative and even recommended us on a few menu items before we started looking through it. The prices at Grand Lux are quite pricey for certain dishes, but I think it is a pretty good deal when you eat there during their lunchtime (ends at 5 P.M.). The crab cake was delicious, and my Yellow Tomato Pasta Pomodoro was pretty good. I ordered it with their homemade chicken meatballs, but the meat was too dense and garlicky. Nonetheless, the pasta itself was well-seasoned though. Overall, it was a good experience at Grand Lux for my first time.

Pros: Spacious interior,booth seats,attentive service

Cons: A little pricey

June 25, 2009

I chose this place for my birthday celebration with a very close group of friends. Service was a little slow, but we got our table just fine (best to make reservations if over 4 people). Our waitress was extremely pleasant. My mojito was spot on, everyone loved their drink orders. The portions were definitely impressive. Most of the food was very good. Grand Lux really should work on the Weinersnitzel. My veal was a little tough, the red cabbage was too sweet with the mashed sweet potatoes (maybe I should have kept the regular mashed potatoes). But all in all, we would come back. A little pricey for the fare.

Pros: Good portions

Cons: All dishes not equal

March 30, 2009

Went here for lunch on Valentine's Day. Upon leaving, our server provided us with coupons (4 actually) for a free dessert with our next $30 purchase. We returned this past weekend for those free beignets...On our first visit I had to flag down a MANAGER to request drinks. Our server showed up just as her manager was bringing our sodas to the table. The food is excellent - gigantic selection and portions just like Cheesecake Factory - I think it is the same company? Our recent return had the same result - took forever for a server to address us, we were never provided a bread basket, and then once our order was submitted, it took forever (30 minutes at least) to get our food, which had mistakes (hash browns instead of fries). Our server was nice enough, but left us with an overall feeling of "service definitely needs improvement". But this is a big chain, with good food, so I am sure their business is fine. Beignets are EXCELLENT.

Pros: Beignets, Happy Hour specials

Cons: Service is slow every time

January 24, 2009

We sampled a late night dinner here with good friends of ours. However, we waited a very, very, VERY long time for a table. After finally being seated, the service was slow and lethargic; almost dreadfully unattentive. While the salads, drinks and desserts were good, they were far from memorable. It's a shame really, because the restaurant is quite nice-looking inside. But it was overshadowed and horribly dulled by the almost non-existent service. Maybe we showed up on an "off" night, but it would be hard to justify trying it again.

Pros: NIce ambiance, varied menu

Cons: Very slow service

December 28, 2008

Me and my fiance are extremely impressed with this place. We ate there yesterday and we are still talking about how great the food was and we even ate left overs today from yesterday. Huge portions. Next time we are splitting an meal. Staff is very pleasant and nice. We had ordered our meal and we were informed that the burger was going to have to be redone since it was overcooked and the manager offered complementary salad or soup while we waited. We didn't even end up waiting long for the order to be brought out. After we ate and about to ask for our check, manager comes back to say it was on him for having to wait on my fiance's order. We really didn't think it was necessary and not a big deal but he really insisted that we didn't to pay. What a lucky day for us! That was too generous of him. We had a waitress named Jackie, super friendly and despite their busy crowd, she was very attentive. We are definitely going back and checking out their desserts. Highly recommended. Yummy food.

Pros: A lot of food for one person!

Cons: None

December 23, 2008

My friend and I went here for dinner the other night. My friend had the margherita pizza and I had the chopped salad. I do not recommend either. I am sure the pizza comes frozen and is then heated. The crust was thick, when margherita pizza should be on thin crust. The chopped salad was downright horrible. It consisted of HUGE chunks of lettuce, chicken, and tomato, ALL of which were WARM (even the vegetables). I would never order either entree again. HOWEVER, the desserts were amazing. I had the Creme Brulee Duo and my friend had the Fudge Cake Collision. We both loved our HUGE desserts and took the leftovers home. The Creme Brulee Duo really was perfection. The service was terrible (we had about 5 different servers that all kept disappearing) and I was a little irritated that iced tea or soda is $3 a piece. This is a great place to go for dessert (and the cocktails at other tables looked fabulous), but the main courses are a dissapointment. Honestly, The Cheesecake Factory is cheaper AND better.

December 22, 2008

What a great place! How could you not have a good time here? Right in the bustling Uptown area, the atmosphere is incredible and hard to describe. It is a huge place with crazy decor, a cross between a luxury hotel lobby, a train station, and an eclectic lounge. You feel very good being in here. The food is really good tasting with large portions and quality ingredients. The menu is one of those varied mixes of different styles and fusions; American classics to Asian dishes and French desserts. The menu is deceptively modest, if you order a french dip you are going to be delighted with a deliscious meal. I love the sandwhiches, miso salmon, duck potstickers, steaks, great coffees. They have really great drinks too. The food delivers beyond the expectations set forth by the menu, but matches the expectations set by the ambience. Yes it is similar to Cheescake Factory and P.F. Changs, way better service than any CF though. Besides they have CF and PF everywhere, the Lux is more unique.

Pros: ambience, food

September 20, 2008

To echo the previous reviewer: mediocre is the word! And to all who compare this place to the Cheesecake Factory...you are right! Grand Lux is actually owned by the same people. Because they wanted another restaurant in the same area, but too close to the Cheesecake Factory, they started Grand Lux (actually this started in Las Vegas, with the opening of Grand Lux in the Venetian). Anyway, I've tried this place about 6 times. Each time, I find the food and service to be extremely....mediocre. I know, I've run out of vocabulary words, but that's the best way to describe it. Desserts are delicious though, and although I'm not a cheesecake lover, they do have some awesome chocolate cakes. I do love the decor, and the fast-paced feel of the place. But I've never had anything there that I'd want to order the next time. So I've tried different food each time, and each time has disappointed. By the way, I love the Cheesecake Factory and go there often. I found this same discrepancy in Las Vegas: The CF was great, but GL was always....mediocre. Too bad.

Pros: parking, ambience, location, desserts

Cons: Bland food, slow service

July 13, 2008

Grand Lux boasts a cavernous interior and Asian fusion dishes, but lacks in both service and taste. Though their portions are large, the food tastes as if it has been drenched in salt and soy sauce. In addition, the service is painfully slow. The food is edible, but with so many other delectable eateries in Houston, there really is no reason to waste time here except to glance at the decor and grab a bite of dessert.

Pros: Ambience, dessert

Cons: Over-salted food, slow service

May 09, 2008

I've been here several times and each time been impressed. It's hard to describe this place because on one hand it's very upscale with fancy decorations and lighting, very nice dishes, high-level service, etc. but each time I've been there, I did not have a reservation and was seated within 15 minutes. The prices are also very reasonable considering the type of place this is.

It's not a $100 a plate type of place where they shine your shoes and come sing for you so if you really are having a big night - ie. getting ready to propose to someone, meeting up with a supermodel etc. you might want to find a fancier place. On the other hand if you're out for a nice evening and want a break from the Chili's, TGI-Fridays of the world, this is your place and will make both you and your guest(s) happy.

Pros: plenty of parking, great atmospehere

Cons: not the cheapest place but then this isn't an everyday place

July 24, 2007

I have been to Grand Lux about 3 times now. Whether it's lunch, desert, or breakfast service is fairly good. Waitstaff was attentive. Ambiance seems to impress guests although I am not a big fan of the art-deco interior. The look of the restaurant reminds me alot of the Cheesecake Factory. The food is good and the drinks are better - my wife loved her mojito cosmo (I think that's what is was). Good for slightly larger groups, like 4-7. Oh, and we went on off-peak hours. I am not sure about the wait during rush hour - I would bet it's packed though :)

Pros: Satisfying portions

Cons: Gigantic restaurant - not intimate

January 24, 2007

My husband and I chose to dine here on our one year anniversary. After looking at the place from the front, and seeing what we could on the inside, we thought it would be a great place for our one year anniversary. Were we ever wrong! The moment we walked in I didn't feel right at all since the hostess appeared snooty to me. Then we get our waiter, and he was shady as ever. As soon as he sat us down, another waiter appeared! Weird. This waiter was nice to us. So far he was the nicest person there that we dealt with, so we liked that. Prices were a bit high, but I guess that was expected. We had ordered the spinach artichoke dip and were very disappointed. We were told that the liquid on top was butter. Indeed not. It was grease! It was so disgusting. We kept trying to stir it in the dip, since we thought that's what we were to do, it didn't help. So we poured out the said grease on a little plate. Our dishes arrived, and from what we thought, we thought they tasted ok. Until we got home and a couple days later we were both sick to our stomachs. Apparently this place cooks with a ton of grease! The only thing that was good, was the cheesecake. And even then, we were so full we didn't really enjoy it that much. We learned that we won't come here anymore. The food nor the service left much to want to experience again.

Pros: Pretty decor, good dessert

Cons: Service leaves many to think that the restaurant is great, but isn't, high prices, food isn't all that great

January 17, 2007

The food is ok, but great service. The best molten chocolate cake in town. I have tried their curry rice about two years ago and a mango salad. But these items disappeared from the new menu. Their shrimp pasta is good. I always order the pasta every time I dine there.

November 22, 2006

i haven't actually eaten a real meal here ... i only come here for their fabulous desserts~! they have their own "dessert bar" that also serves as a mini bakery/pastry shop ... but the bar is the absolute best place to experience these lovely assortment of goodies. i love how they treat the dessert list as a real meal ... setting up a 3-4 course meal, starting from an appetizer to the main course. the beignets are probably the best you'll ever have in houston, with 3 different dips to soak them in. a fabulous dessert dining experience~! bring a date here!*

Pros: dessert!, ambience

Cons: there are none!

November 20, 2006

Good food, but service is consistently slow. Doesn't matter what day of the week, or how many at your table that orders - it's slow. Unless you have 2 hours for lunch - it's not enough time for the lunch hour! You need to go somewhere that can serve you quicker. BUT - the food is usually good, and the desserts....wonderful.

Pros: good food, big desserts

Cons: service

November 17, 2006

between grand lux and its sister restaurant, cheesecake, i prefer grand lux. you get pretty much the same environment and food but the menu has several more selections, including a better variety of healthier dishes. but for those that don't care much about the calories, make sure you order the molten chocolate cake at the beginning of the meal...it needs time to prepare. sizziling beef is awesome and love the strawberry lemonade.

November 16, 2006

I think the salad portions for lunch are soooooo big that I didn't even make a dent in it. The miso fish was very very good. The lettuce wraps are generous. The desserts are fabulous....I really don't have anything bad to say about this place. I have been there several times and have not been disappointed. No this isn't sophisticated dining but it is good casual fare for the money. Service is very good too.

Pros: Good food, Good value for food, great service and great ambience!

Cons: Noisy, long waits without reservations.

November 05, 2006

This restaurant is great for take out orders. Just call in when leaving the office, choose from their huge menu, and pick up at the front counter.

November 04, 2006

I ate here last night with my girlfriend. The only bad thing about our experience was that we forgot to mention that we didn't want to sit in the bar area...the noise level went up and down. We had the Caesar Salad for an appetizer, I had a Margherita Pizza, and my girlfriend had the Chicken Madeira. All of the food tasted excellent and we ended up trying the Roasted Pineapple Upside Down Cake (served with vanilla ice cream and macadamia nuts) - my girlfriend loves it.

Pros: Great food with generous portions

Cons: Don't sit in the bar for your meal

November 04, 2006

Great place to go with friends or that special someone. Menu has largest selection in Galleria. Great Dessert!

November 01, 2006

Oddly this place has some really good mojitos, not too strong and not too sweet. Their beignets are also really good.

October 27, 2006

The food at Grand Lux is similar to the Cheesecake Factory. Large portions and pretty good. However, the desserts really make this place special. I love the rustic apple pie and the molten chocolate cake. The restaurant is beautiful but can be loud at times. I have always enjoyed dining here.

Pros: desserts!

Cons: parking

October 27, 2006

I felt like I was in Las Vegas when I entered this restaurant. The scenery was definitely NOT lacking. We had a great waiter who was attentive to our needs throughout the whole meal -- not just at the end, before we filled in the tip. The food was great, and so were the mixed drinks. This is a great place to go with another couple or a group of friends.

Pros: atmosphere, location, food

July 11, 2006

Great service, food, atmosphere.. very similar to cheesecake factory. Great place to stop and have lunch after shopping at the Galleria.

June 21, 2006

Having been to the Houston and Vegas GL in the Venetian. I have to say, this one is LAVISH! The interior is even louder and more Vegas-esque than the Vegas branch! Everything from the muraled ceiling vault to the marbled bathroom sinks is top-notch but still maintains an air of casual fun! We've been here seven times so far and the quality is consistent. Although the service is somewhat slow, even when the restaurant is not crowded (and it usually is very crowded). The staff here seems indifferent and unattentive in comparision to the Vegas restuarant - even though the Vegas GL one is much higher volume and is open 24hrs.

THE FOOD - Of course the food is pretty much the same with the slight edge going to the Vegas restuarant. There are a variety of fusion items on the menu, our favorites being the Buffalo chicken rolls and the ahi tuna items. The entrees are gigantic, the salads never-ending, the pastas rich and creamy...yes you get the idea...this is a two-meals-for-one place and its a good idea to share unless you are doing seafood!

Pros: Lively decor full of various curiosities & detail, excellent food & galleria location

Cons: Subpar service, distant and gloomy wait-staff

June 15, 2006

Bread and butter I remember was so good. I went with a friend of mine who is a vegetarian and there is only one item that is meatless and it is not all that. So avoid it if you are.

Pros: ?

Cons: lot of unnecessary hype

May 25, 2006

Slightly more upscale - menus aren't spiral bound - and I agree that the taste of the food is average, but the portions are still generous. The fresh-baked apple pie/tart was wunderbar! It's a bit noisy, so I wouldn't consider it a romantic date place. I had a very nice waiter, so my experience overall is pretty satisfactory.

Pros: Portions, Service, Parking

April 07, 2006

Great atmosphere, great selection of food, will always have something you're in the mood for, great desserts

Pros: variety, atmosphere, food

December 03, 2005

We had a party of 17 and it took us 5 hours, 7:30 pm - 12:30 am, to be seated served and given our check. The hostess told me that it would take between 45 minutes to an hour to get a table, and it actually took 2.5 hrs!!! (I called the day before and asked if I could make a reservation, and they said no) On top of that, the food was not very good and came out cold. Also, they ran out of two dishes we ordered (sea bass and duck) and we had select new entrees. I will NEVER go back to this resteraunt again.

Pros: Ambiance

Cons: Time, Food, Service

December 02, 2005

I have eaten here on several occasions and have left pleased. The food (a-la Cheesecake Factory) has always been tastey and the desserts are A+. Very unique design and clean restrooms create a plush enviroment and the bar area is nicely tucked away from the dining area so that you are not having to deal with cigarette smoke.

Pros: Good Menu, Layout and Design, Valet Parking

Cons: Ingress/Egress, Crowded, Menu $$$

October 21, 2005

This is an excellent eatery where I have dined multiple times. I would reccomend making reservations unless you like waiting over an hour for a table. They are very accomodating to large groups. Thai pizza is excellent and don't skip the freshly baked desserts. CHOCOLATE MOLTEN CAKE is to die for. Expect crowds and the service is not all that quick, but they do give you bread to munch on while you wait for your meal.

Pros: Great Food

Cons: Crowded

September 26, 2005

This place has a huge menu and everything I've had so far has been amazing. Their drinks are also very creative and very good. Can get pretty busy which makes the service not as attentive as I would like but that just gives you more time to admire the architecture inside.

Pros: Great Food Selection, Great Food, Great Drinks

Cons: Service is okay

August 20, 2005

They start you off with purified water and bread & butter. For appetizers I had the duck pot stickers and buffalo chicken. Both interesting and good. Once I had the Wiener Schnitzel. An absolut disaster. Although they give you 3 nice pieces of breaded pork, mashed potatoes and red cabbage, you can definetly taste the frying grease. It was not repulsive but they were drenched in it. The pot roast was ok. A little cold, but the mashed potatoes were incredible, especially with the Halibut. I know its a $22 entree and you get a dirt dwelling fish but it was delicious and probably the only entree I recommend. Salads are generous and ok. Deserts you have to order 30 min ahead of time. I recommend the banana forrester. 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream with sauteed bananas and liquor. A nice treat but you have to eat it fast.

August 02, 2005

The portions are very generous & the waitstaff is helpful & friendly, BUT the quality of the food is only above average for the sophisticated diner. The dishes visual aesethics do not satisfy blind taste buds; World Class selection without the world-class quality.
In the Appetizer sampler with the Ahi Tuna upgrade, tiny dipping convex-bottomed saucers were too small to dip the oversized appetizers; No traditional ginger & wasabi. The seared tuna was cold and uninteresting.

The seating is horrible if you dont get a booth. I felt like I was in an elementary school cafeteria! Make sure you make reservations for a booth for some privacy.

I agree with user marychristmas that the hostesses are flat out snot-nose guttersnipes trying to pass off as the queen of sheba; very rude.

Pros: atmosphere, large portions, waitstaff

Cons: seating, pricey low quality, rude hostesses

July 31, 2005

17 people in party & worst comment: the pork chop was too thick. Service excellent.
Attentive, but no intrusive. Even did separate checks for each couple. Pot Pie more than you can eat. Order a salad to start and you won't be able to eat your entree. Spinach lasagna not heavy: light but filling. For desserts, check out the apple pie (fresh apples) and the creampuff !

Pros: Service, Good value, excellent food

Cons: Too good. Ate too muc

July 25, 2005

Once we got past the snotty hostess, the waitstaff were terrific. Portions are large and the food is quite rich. Similar ambiance and quality of their sister property, The Cheesecake Factory, located at the Galleria across the street. The staff took great care of our party of 10. My beverage was never more than half-empty before a cheerful server refilled it. Save room for dessert, or order it fresh baked to go!

Pros: Atmosphere, Quality of food, Service

Cons: Pricey for everyday, Can get loud

July 17, 2005

This place is wonderful the food, the service the ambience. You can go there and enjoy just about any type of food you like. Also a great for people watching. The drinks are enjoyable and the desserts good. A great place to have a drink with your friends or enjoy a good meal.

Pros: good food, good service, group dining

Cons: crowded

July 10, 2005

This restaurant is a joke! It smells of smoke the second you hit the door. Customer service is non-existant. And you must stand and wait to be seated like a herd of cattle.
Oh, and don't even THINK about sitting at the desert bar to wait--even if there isn't a single body in sight......"The Manager doesn't allow it!"..... And you can obviously wear anything---even tank tops. You always want to see men in tank tops while you're eating......Such a dissapointment before we even got seated, we left! Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

Pros: NON!

Cons: Everything!

July 09, 2005

I enjoyed the food, strawberry lemonade was to die for. Huge fresh baked cookies(dozen) for a small price

Pros: good food, atmosphere, good price

Cons: parking, parking, parking

May 03, 2005

Incredible porion size.
Lemon chicken picata was my dish - tasted excellent, but could have used more sauce.

The real kicker was desert. Deep dark fudge cake - was the most amazing desert i have ever had in my entire life. I generally eat healthy, but this was worth breaking the diet for. Best cake i have ever had!!!! ever!
I will go back just for the cake alone

Pros: deep dark fudge cake, portion size

Cons: wait to be seated

April 29, 2005

Our server was initially attentive in giving us a short orientation to the overacheiving menu, but was almost nowhere to be seen after taking our food order. The ahi appetizer was good, not great. The entrees were Texas size, but bland. Drinks were embarassingly weak and watered down by the melted ice by the time they finally hit the table.

If the same amount of attention were given to the flavor of the menu items as the interior design, this place would excel. Maybe that was the intent...divert attention away from your food with the decor, so you don't notice it as much.

A very average dining experience in a city with plentiful dining options. Grand Lux fails where it tries to succeed (by trying to be all menus to all people).

Pros: Vegas-style decor, Valet parking

Cons: Average food, Spotty service

April 20, 2005

3 of us had dinner here last Wednesday and everything from the service to the food was excellent. This is a really unique restaurant in Houston. It's very open and airy and you don't feel rushed to leave. Our waiter Steven gave some fabulous recommendations, was always attentive and we will defininitley be back here.
Their menu is fantastic and they have everything you'd want. The Sour Apple Margaritas were wonderful! Def Recommend

Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere
