I went to see River Oaks Automotive Center to see if they'd screw a passenger side mirror back on my car for me. They said there was no way to fix it, I'd have to spend $200 to buy a new one and then pay them to put it on my car for me. While the mirror was supposedly out being painted, a friend of mine (he just works on his own cars) fixed my original mirror with some tools he had lying around in his van.
I told this to River Oaks Automotive Center and was told there was no way they'd refund the $200 for the new mirror even though I didn't need it because it'd been painted. So I have no new mirror and I'm out $200 even though mine was fixable in less than 10 minutes with no special tools by a non-mechanic.
Not only that, my new mechanic (who does repairs and replacements to mirrors) told me that the mirrors come out of the box at the manufacturer's place already painted. Since River Oaks lied to get me to buy the mirror in the first place, I tend to put my faith in my new mechanic.
It was a lesson hard learned but through it I learned to look up businesses on Citysearch and, ultimately, came away with a mechanic who had over 20 5-star recommendations on their site. Ultimately worth the $200 I wasted at River Oaks Automotive Center.
Pros: It was a little bit closer to my house.
Cons: Integrity questionable at best.
