Helga's Pet Grooming Plus

We have being going to Helgas for 4 years. Not sure what happened with the one star reviews. As stated in one of those reviews, Helgas is always busy. That is because they do an outstanding job for outstanding prices. If the customers who left one star reviews were unhappy with the services that they received, they should have said something at the time. Helgas would have made it right or probably not charged them at all.

Mike, Helga, and their crew are top notch. They truly care for all of the dogs that they groom. Our 9 year old Lab had patches of hair falling out with itchy skin when we moved here to San Antonio 4 years ago due to new found San Antonio allergies. The vet was charging us for visits and steroids. They also told us that we could try medicated baths. We took him to Helgas, and they knew just what to do. Weve taken him there every week since for his medicated bath, which is very reasonably priced for all of the work that they do. His coat looks better than ever, no vet steroids needed. He also loves to go to Helgas. We say, You want to go to the groomer? and he gets very excited and runs to the door to leave.

We recently adopted a foster dog that we had taken in from Animal Care Services in San Antonio. He had large, deep gashes on his legs and was matted, dirty, and very scared. Helgas groomed him for free and even helped to clean out his wounds. Helgas will groom a shelter or city dog or cat for free within 6 weeks of adoption. These are people that truly care about animals. Our new dog came out looking wonderful. Both dogs now happily go for regular baths nearly every week.

Helga herself took my husband on a tour of the facility, showing him everything and explaining how they completely sanitize everything, even the temporary holding crates, every night before they close. She said they do that to make sure that animals dont catch anything from each other, such as conditions like mange. She said that she would feel awful if something like that happened. Like I said, these people really care about your animals this way. Ask about the sanitary procedures at other groomers. You will find them to be very variable.

Helgas is one of the best independent businesses weve ever found. Please give them a try. You will be happy. If you are not happy, tell them. They will make it right.

I took my new dog there, expecting hidden charges, fees, etc. I picked up my dog later in the day, he was bathed, groomed and there were no hidden charges. DO NOT USE! We adopted a toy poodle from ACS and received a free grooming from Helga's. I dropped her off at 8:00am on Wednesday morning and she wasn't done until 5:00pm. They did say they would be fitting her in between their scheduled

I took my three dogs in, one just for a bath at 9:30 am. I didn't get them back until nearly 7:30 pm. They said they tried to call, but nothing came up on my cell phone from them. One of the dogs still smells although they did a good job grooming them but it was much more expensive for the dog (10 lbs) who just had the bath than listed on their website, $9, and then charged me $28 for him. They said he was "difficult," and tried to bite them, which I told them he might try, but since they ended up bathing him I don't know how difficult he could have been. I even offered to come get him and they said no. They charged me $48 each for my other two dogs although they were standard grooming and no problem at all according to them, so why wasn't I only charged $38 for each of them. When I asked about the higher charge, Helga informed me they like to take their time with each animal. Quite frankly I feel like I was overcharged because they overbooked for the day and my dogs were last in and last out and they had to stay past closing time to groom them. Over the course of many years I have taken my dogs to several different groomers in various cities as well as here in San Antonio. Without question the entire staff at Helga's Pet Grooming is the best of the lot. Helga and her two sons go out of their way to put the needs of the animals and their owners at ease. YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST.

I first became aware of Helga's through my girlfriend. Before her Poodle passed on, I used to accompany her to pick up the little pooch. I always noticed how Helga's staff would beautifully groom the pooch during scheduled visits. The staff was always very friendly and courteous to me, even though I wasn't a dog owner.
January 2010 I bought a 3 mo old purebred Springer Spaniel. When my Springer, Max, reached 5 months, I decided to take him to Helga's for his first grooming. Wow!! Helga's staff showered him with attention and treated him like a king. He looked absolutely gorgeous after that first visit. We've been returning for regular visits since then and I can report that Helga provides CONSISTENT quality grooming and courteous service. I asked Chris for a special cut for Max earlier this year and sure enough, Chris made Max look like a true AKC Champ show dog.
Heck, I even won a free grooming from them at my last visit.
Helga's is very professional and they will LISTEN and respond if you have any concerns. I live 10 miles away and have groomers within 1 mile of my home, but gladly drive the extra distance for Helga's services.

I took my Chow mix for the first time yesterday. Both he and I were treated wonderfully! They seemed to want to work with the customers and make sure they could help everyone that entered their doors no matter how late in the day it is. When I went to check on my baby just to see how he was being treated I saw he was being treated as if he was their own pet. I was very impressed. I've been to other groomers in the past and they just seemed to get the dogs in and out as quickly as possible. Helga's pet grooming has earned my continuous business. I will be going back for all my animals grooming needs. To the staff, Thank you!!

Told him how this is what we didn't want before, that they cut it down way too much. He explained he would try not to cut him down as much this time.
When I picked up my dog, he didn't have "ANY HAIR". Before this, when I called, the clerk said they didn't have to cut him down as much as they thought. This obviously wasn't the case.
I'm going elsewhere next time--this is the second time they basically "butchered" my dog's hair. It's embarrassing--I wouldn't recommend--I feel I will need to get t-shirt now for hiim just to cover him up and restore some of his dignity.
I plan on going elsewhere next time.

Helga's is great! The staff treats my yorkie with such love & care, that I feel perfectly comfortable leaving him there for his "spa day." Tucker is always calm & happy when I pick him (even though he's excited to come home), and looks great every time. Thanks!!

SIMPLY AMAZING!! My poor shih tzu Roxie had been neglected with grooming for almost 7 months due to her being pregnant. I was some what apprehensive about what the staff at Helga's could do with my poor girl, (not because I didn't believe in the staff, but Roxie was surely a mess). So I took Roxie and her mate Samson to Helga's and my darling babies couldn't look more precious!! Not only that Robert made me feel sooo welcomed!! He took time with them and learned their personalites and approached them with such gentleness and love. I LOVE THIS PLACE AND WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO ANY AND EVERYONE!!

I have been taking my dog there since she was a pup, great prices, great care. Emma does not seem to be as scared as when I took her to the "bigger" stores for grooming. Comes out looking happy and very cute!

I just wanted to say that I think Helga's pet grooming is one of the best in town. After having some issues with a previous groomer, my husband and I were looking for a new one so we asked our vet for a recommendation and they told us about Helga's. I have taken my 2 shih tzu dogs there twice and both times they have come back looking adorable! The workers are all very friendly and ready to answer any questions you may have and Helga is a sweetie! I even asked about nail clipping and found out that they will do it in between groomings at no additional charge to me. Too bad I found that out after paying 11 dollars at the vet for just one dog! I highly recommend Helga's to anyone in the San Antonio or surrounding areas that is looking for a groomer. I promise you won't regret it!

They do a wonderful job on pets here at helgas, my dog always comes back with a nice hair cut, clean and happy. They point out any problems with my pet and tell me if i need to get it checked with my vet. From the looks of the other pets going out they do a great job on all the different breeds too. They also do nail trimming and ear cleaning which is always hard for me to do at home.
