In Short
Glittering chandeliers, gold and burgundy upholstered high backed chairs and tasteful decor makes this a popular venue for a traditional Chinese wedding banquet. Expect hour-long waits on weekends at this dim sum institution. Broad selection of dim sum dishes include shrimp dumplings, sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf, and mini custard egg tarts. Shark's fin soup, Peking duck, and crispy roasted squab are some of the delicacies served during dinner. Service is westerner friendly.

Key Points

  • Great For Large Groups
  • Authentic Chinese Favorites
  • Dim Sum in the True Tradition

The Inside Scoop

  1. What to Drink - Hot chrysanthemum flower tea (sugar optional) is refreshing and pairs well with the dim sum.
  2. Parking - Towing is rampant in this area. Be extra careful not to park in front of other businesses.
  3. When to Go - Weekdays are less busy for dim sum.

Used to be better.

by S S.

We used to drive from North Plano to come to Kirin Court for the DimSum and dinners.
My husband would take business clients there for lunch about 3 times a month. Over the past few months, the quality has gone downhill. Instead of having reliable workers making the food, it is inconsistent and flavorless.
It is disappointing. If you complain, the servers will shrug and say 'yeah, we have new people in the back'. When I asked if they'd been trained in Chinese cooking, they said "no, they're Mexican!". I have nothing against that, but perhaps they could take a look at their declining numbers and decide to train their cooks better or hire some new ones. The staff are always attentive and the restaurant is generally clean, but the food isn't good.

Fabulous!

by courtney h. | insider Insider | Rank: 15,774

I agree with the reviewer below though - GET HERE EARLY or your wait till be tiring!

It's the American version of a buffet, only with Chinese food and rolling carts full of deliciousness! Go with someone who's been before so they can help with what everything is, as most of the waitstaff knows very little English. That's okay though!! The food is outstanding, always fresh, and you leave very satisfied and ready for a nap!! :o)

Dim Sum

by Jason H. | insider Insider | Rank: 31,706

Definition : Dim sum (literally meaning "touch the heart") is the name for a Chinese cuisine which involves a wide range of light dishes served alongside Chinese tea. Okay, this is considered one of the best dim sum restaurants in Texas. The food is fresh (very important) and tasteful. You can try out many different dishes depending on your mood of the day. :) The ideal number of group for dim sum is four because the serving of each dish is usually 4, but if you have big group, just make two orders. It's a very busy place on Sunday, so waiting for a table can be a patient test. Overall, it's a very good place to have authentic Chinese food and an unique experience if you have not tried it yet.

by Leah B. | insider Insider | Rank: 18,387

get here early or wait a long time. 11-1130 is the prime time.
they have a lot of selections.
i reccommend going with friends so you can try a selection of items.
this is a dirt cheap deal starting at $1.50 to $2.00 a plate.

Not worth the money and terrible service!!!

by SnMagnifique

My husband and I wanted to try a new dim sum restaurant since we've been to many around North Texas. Maxim and Kirin's Court have terrible wait lines. Kowloon in Arlington is by far the best Dim Sum restaurant with good service. Arc En Cel was too but they closed down in Garland. But this one was amazingly terrible and the service was even worst. Being of Asian descent, Dim Sum is one of our favorite past times for weekend brunches... and to tell you that this was a terrible experience and restaurant does not even put into words what it was like. Some of the food were cold, the cart waiters/waitresses just passes on through out table to other tables not even looking at us at all. It was true that you have to beg for food and especially for more water. It was a terrible experience and a waste of my $30.00. Now for the people saying that the Dim Sum was cheap? Uhm NO! The prices ranged from $3.50- 6.00. That's not cheap Dim Sum like other reviews here say. Food was okay and the dishes were overpriced. I still think Kowloon in Arlington is better. I wish Arc en Cel was still open.

Anyways, don't waste money here.
Spend it else where that gives great food and service!!

Cons: Service was horrendous! Wait time was long.

Thee worst treatment I have ever experienced!

by LoCo68

We were practically ignored from the moment we walked in the door. An adjacent table felt sorry for us and started sending carts to our table. I felt like I had to beg everytime I wanted anything, even the check. On the way out I saw a dim sum menu with pictures, which would have made our life much easier. I picked it up to see what we had missed out on and one of the wait staff started yelling at me and accusing me of leaving with it. The food was good, but not good enough to endure that again! I understand and appreciate cultural differences but this was unadulterated rudeness!

Pros: Decent Food

Cons: Horrendous Service

EXCELLET DIM SUM

by iheartarkansas

Busy on Sunday afternoon. It was a 30 minute wait outside in the cold, but we were served hot tea. My favorite were the fried chicken and shrimp dumplings!!! Service was great. I will return again!

Dim Sum-alicious

by pigmama

We got there just after they opened on Sunday and were seated immediately. When we left, there was a line around the building. The food was incredible! Reminded me of the great Chinese food I have come to love in L.A. (choices included: shrimpballs, fresh veggies, custard cup, chicken feet, soup, etc). The price was more than acceptable for all we ate. Not only was there a contstant stream of carts with tons of choices, they also had a table with people making hot items per each customer's order. Yum! The service was fine and employees were polite. They also let us take home our leftovers. I can't wait to go back this weekend and stuff my face.

Pros: Plenty of choices

Cons: plastic table cloths

Best dim sum! but poor service!

by msinban

This is the best dim sum place I've had in Dallas or elsewhere. However, the service is bad! The waiter was rude to us, and the manager doesn't care about it either. The restaurant was packed on weekends, and people would wait for 30 minutes or more to eat. Because the waiting area was jammed, we waited around the vacant tables, and the waiter told us to go wait outside. We said well, we're here first, and if you make us wait outside, you'll have to make other people wait outside, too. He said rudely said, "Go wait outside!" He said it in such very rude manner and that clearly states our business doesn't mean anything to them. It was the most horrible experience customer service I've seen ever!! You get better treatments from Taco Bell or McDonalds. And you would have to look eager and desperate to ask for utensils or drink refills from the waiter or waitresses! This is the only place where I feel like we have to be begging to eat!! And this is a restaurant in America! After we were done eating, we paid with our credit card, and we waited and waited for 15 minutes for our credit card. We had to walk up to the front to talk to the manager in order to locate our credit card. They said, they don't remember who it belonged too. They seriously need to place value on their customer service and fire the manager. It's been such a bad customer experience, I'm not sure if I'm ready to go back there to eat eventhough I miss eating their dim sum.

Pros: Best dim sum in Dallas!

Cons: Poor service!

Manager is AWFUL

by JosieReviews

I am Chinese from Mainland living in Dallas. I eat at restaurants serving authentic Chinese food at least twice a week. The only times I've been to Kirin Court is during dim sum on the Sundays. Recently, I went for dinner on a Friday night with some friends and experienced perhaps the WORST kind of bad service imaginable in a "service" industry. After we had finished our meal (which was rather average), my friends and I split the check in half, handing the waiter TWO credit cards. After a long delay of 10 minutes, he comes back to the table with ONE credit card. We ask him where the other card was and he seemed confused. Yes, they had "misplaced" it. With us looking on, the waiter and the manager looked around for it, including in OTHER GUESTS' TABS. After 10 minutes of obviously fruitless searching, we are getting extremely frustrated. I go up to the front and wait for them to find it. Finally, the waiter finds it ON THE FLOOR. A customer's credit card is on the floor. I am obviously not happy that they nearly lost our card and the manager seemed absolutely unphased by this. I make a comment about how riduculous it is that they simply lose someone's credit card and we should be compensated for their error. In hindsight, I merely said it out of frustration. However, the manager's reaction to it made me absolutely LIVID. He said that he was a business, not charity, that we ate the food, meaning service is not a factor, and that I was DRIVING HIM CRAZY. To add the proverbial cherry on top, he proceeded to SLAM our credit cards, receipts, and a pen on the counter, yes, SLAM. The NERVE! I will never again give my business to a restaurant where obviously service is not valued and the customer is never right. There are too many excellent Chinese restaurants around for that sort of behavior to be acceptable. I hope everyone will use this to make a point to Asian business owners; unfortunately, service is a large part of what makes a good meal.

Pros: Tasty Food

Cons: Service especially management
