Allen Veterinary Hospital is A GREAT choice
by Rebecca R.
Dr. Overton is one of the most caring vets I've ever met. When my dog was dying from cancer, he did all he could... With an attitude that he wanted to fight for her life. When it came time for her to pass on, he made sure she was comfy.., let me hold her... And let me stay in the room as long as I wanted. We take all our cats and dogs here. They are always nice and helpful.., and no one is pretentious or rude. Sometimes that's hard to find in the Dallas area!

Allen Veterinary Hospital is having some problems.
by Arden H.
I am new to Texas. We picked Dr.Overton because he is close to where we live. I have had nothing but bad experiences there. The place is too busy and disorganized to make me feel comfortable. My first appointment I waited 45 minutes past my appointment and was getting up to leave when they finally saw me. The staff is rude and unhelpful. With all the Vets in Allen I would chose another. (I have!)

What a wonderful place!
by Patricia V.
As a kid, Mom always took our dogs to Dr. Overton. Now that I am grown and a dog owner myself, I take them to Dr. Overton. You won't find a better deal in town, and you can tell he really loves the animals!

The Best Vet Around!!!!!
by Patty A.
Several months ago I moved to Austin from Allen. Due to the economy I lost my job. My dog got sick and I needed help to get a prescription refilled. Most vets care more about the money than the animals...or so it seems.
I called Allen Vet Clinic and Dr. Overton rose to the occasion without question and called my pharmacy here in Austin to help me out. What a stellar act! In this fast moving crazy society, it is refreshing to find an "old school" attitude of care and concern.
Thank you Dr. Overton and your staff. My sweet old dog is better and it's because of you! You are true blessing to me in a dark time.

Not What They Used To Be
by Philip G.
I, also, have noticed a significant decrease in performance at this clinic. We have been customers for over 30 years. Several weeks ago, our kitten broke her leg. We took her into the clinic at about 8:00am on a Saturday for emergency treatment. They placed her in a cage in the back room (the main cage area was full) and assured us that someone would see her and give us a call. When we had not heard anything by noon, we called back but could not get anyone (the office closes at noon on Saturday). We finally got in touch with the vet at home. He told us that nobody told him the kitten was there but he would go back to the clinic and let us know. We finally received a call about 5:00pm. The vet said the leg was broken and he was conferring with another vet and would set the leg that night. The clinic was closed on Sunday. We called Monday and were told that the vet would operate later that day. In mid-afternoon, 56 hours after bringing in the kitten for an emergency, we received a call that the kitten had passed away.
Previously, in May we had brought another cat to the clinic for a digestive ailment. This cat, also, passed away at the clinic from unknown causes.
Two times in one year seems more than coincidental.

I Have to unfortunately give a bad review.
by Cindy B.
I have also been going to Dr. Overton for 20 years. I don't know what is going on but over the last 2 or 3 years I've seen their practice decline. I did not make my mind up until several visits. There were complications when my dog went into labor and she had a C-section. Everyone had their hands all over the puppies. I was called to the back where they keep all the animals, do surgery, clean dogs teeth, keep other sick animals, board healthy animals, etc...all in one area. It was so filthy I could not believe it. The staff carried an extremely sick dog in on a stretcher, (big dog), and had their hands on this sick dog and others. When Dr. Overton called for assistance they did not even sanitize their hands before assisting with my dog and puppies. This happened more than once. Yet another time, someone else had a sick dog. When they left the examining room, no one cleaned the table. I held on to my healthy dog and when the vet came in and asked me to put my dog on the table, he did not clean or put a towel down. I asked him to do so. He seemed a little put out. I witnessed them take a dirty towel out of another cage and put it into a crate with another incoming little dog. I said something to the girl and she said it was clean. I can mention other situations about the cleanliness of this clinic but I think anyone can grasp the picture. I have always taken my animals to this clinic since I moved to Texas. It is unfortunate that it has gone down hill. I hope they will address these issues and turn it back around. If you go just make sure you ask them to wear gloves and sanitize before letting your precious pet sit on anything. I realize so many people have used them over the years but, look in the back room and go with your dog or cat if they are taken in there.

You will never go to another vet again!
by Jessica R.
I have been going to Dr. Overton since I was a child with every kind of animal you can think of and he has always treated my animals with the kind of love and care I would give them. He is a wonderful doctor and person, he helped our family afford medical care for our animals when times were very hard for us and we have always been so grateful.
The only time I have ever seen another vet was when I moved out of state, and boy did I wish I could get back to Dr. Overton! Since moving back to Texas I have moved around the Dallas metroplex but I never switched vets, even when it was a 45min drive to get to the office! Dr. Overton and Dr. Coffman are worth it.
The entire staff is so great with people and animals, always so warm and friendly. Dr Coffman is a great addition to the practice, he has the same way with animals and people as Dr. Overton always has and I feel confident that he will do a great job with my animals for years to come.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the entire staff of Allen Veterinary Hospital! You guys are Awesome!

Your dog will love you forever if you take him to Dr. Overton's.....
by Jordan S.
My girlfriend was the first to tell me about Dr. Overton's office. I decided to check some online reviews to see what others had to say. After taking my dog to him a couple times over the last month, I must say that he has even exceeded my expectations.
For my first visit, I saw Dr. Coffman and he treated my dog for tapeworm. He game me a wormer and a week's worth of antibiotics to firm my dog's stools. The office visit, wormer, and antibiotics were $68.
A couple weeks later I noticed my log was losing quite a bit of hair around his legs. I feared that he might have mange so I took him back to the vet's office. This time I got to see Dr. Overton himself.
He took some skin samples from his ears. After looking at his skin under a micrscope, he thought there was a good chance my dog had allergies. Since he wasn't completely sure with the diagnosis, he decided to prescribe a week's worth of allergy medication for my dog.
After he learned I had a second dog with itching problems, he threw in another week's worth of antibiotics for free. He also gave me a 30 day flea pill for both dogs. As I was leaving, he mentioned that he could also treat my dog for scabies (one form of mange). He gave my dog and a shot and told the receptionist to mark my dog's records but *not* to charge me for the shot as well. I ended up paying $27.
If this isn't a testament to the heart of this office, I don't know what is. Dr. Overton cares about your animals and will see to it that your dogs receive the best possible care for a very reasonable price.
I highly recommend you take your animals there. You won't regret it

This is a great veterinary clinic. All the doctors are very friendly and knowledgeable. They wont impose on you any unnecessary tests and do not have inflated fees. Dr. Overton is the sweetest and very down to earth.

Good 'ol Boy Dr. Overton!
by Heather T.
We've been taking our pets to Dr. Overton for years, and we love him! Once, we had a female Golden Retriever that got very sick, and she ended up being at the AVH for 5 nights and had surgery, and it only cost $150!! We were blown away by the low cost, excellent service that they provided. We'll never go anywhere else! We will continue to recommend AVH to all of our friends.

Our go-to surgery vet
by HotMommy T.
We live in Richardson, but don't mind driving to Allen when our dogs need surgery. I completely trust they'll do what's best for my doggies and on top of that, the price is SO affordable! For our vaccinations we go to a vet around the corner from our house (a convenience thing), but I consider our dogs going to Dr. Overton similar to me going to see a specialist if I needed surgery.

OMG!!! This place is superb!!
by Nicole B.
Took my very sick 10 yr old cat; stayed overnight and had antibiotics and IV fluids; thought it would be a fortune....less than $200 bucks. Then, labrador retriever began to have seizures (again) and took her to put her on Phenobarbital. Once again, thought it would be a fortune. Ended up less than $50.
I love this office. It is fun, all staff are great, docs LOVE animals (you can tell) and all for way less than anywhere I have found.
You know, sometimes its not ALWAYS about the money. Its about the reputation you create for being loving and caring towards the animals AND their owners. Will recommend HIGHLY to anyone who asks.

Blessing from God
by Ann S.
In October 2007, my dog got out of the fence at our home. He was hot my a car and it broke my dog's front leg completely. My son's are the one's that found Bo and we rushed him to the emergency clinic. Fearing the worst, we didn't know quite what to expect. Bo stayed overnight at the clinic and the next morning we were told about Allen Veterinary Hospital and how awesome the doctors there are. I took Bo in right away the next morning and they treated me and Bo with such compassion. I immediately knew that Dr. Coffman would do everything he could to fix Bo's leg. Dr. Coffman, worked with me financially and althought it took three surgeries and 6 months. Bo is healed and back to his playful self. I absolutely love AVH and all the doctors and staff. They are wonderful and a Blessing from God.

Allen Veterinary - the best Vets I've ever found.
by Shannen K.
I walked into AVH in Jan, knowing that would be the last day I would see my dog alive. It was also the first day I met the staff at AVH. I was seen by Dr. Coffman, who treated us as though he'd know my dog from a puppy and as we were family. I was astounded to find someone so genuinely and deeply compassionate to a complete stranger. The staff was extremely considerate and comforting as I sat there and bawled of my baby's body. Ive had dogs and cats my whole life, and never met a vet like this. As a side note, I now take all my animals there, and they have the lowest prices that I've ever found. I took a puppy in that I adopted recently. After two wormers, shots and three pills, I walked out paying LESS than what I adopted the dog for.
Highly and enthusiastically recommended.

He's the greatest!
by Rhonda H.
I work in cat rescue and we had 2 kittens that came into the local shelter with leg deformities. Dr. Overton and his staff were able to treat them and even found loving homes for them saving our rescue group time and money. We were profoundly grateful and touched by the care there.
Recently, my son's dog had was in a mild accident and hurt his throat. My son called his vet and other area vets, and everyone was closed as it was New Year's Eve day. I asked him to call Dr. Overton and his office was open and we got the dog right in and he was treated and stayed overnight. I will always recommend Dr. Overton to anyone needing a new vet.

Wonderful experience!!
by Jennifer L.
My fiance` and I recently acquired two mid-aged cats, priced many vets in the White Rock Lake area specifically for dental cleaning. All the vet offices that I have contacted have quoted $250.00 and up for one cat, not including blood work usually required for older cats to check vitals before being put asleep. Those prices weren't settling well with me especially when the office I previously made an appointment with couldn't even spend enough time on the phone to answer questions I found important. At this point I began my search to find a caring vet that would spent time answering my questions and concerns.
I had my first visit at Allen Veterinary Hospital today, have to say the reason I choose this office was because of the reviews from others on this site. Dr. Coffman was wonderful and treated my cats as his own. Getting an appointment was very easy, got in the same week called!
Very reasonable pricing these vets are not in the business strictly for the all mighty dollar, but for their love of animals. When your pet gets their annual vaccinations there's no office visit charged! They only charge $90 for one cat's dental cleaning and only $35 for pre-dental blood work- thats truly amazing! I will recommend this vet office to anyone and everyone I know.
I will have no problem driving from White Rock Lake area to Allen to benefit from a dedicated vet office that takes the time to answer my questions. I highly recommend them to cat and dog owners alike. I promise you WON"T leave with questions unanswered or feeling like your pocketbook has been robed. Two thumbs Way up!!

The Best.
by Anonymous
Dr Overton and Dr. Coffman have taken care of my pets for several years and I feel fortunate to have such a caring place that I can fully trust their judgement regarding my dogs and cats.
My cat (who is a diabetic) has been under their care for many years - loves to go see the staff and doctors, which is most unusual
for a cat.
We truly feel fortunate to have found such a fine clinic.

Absolutely The Best

Steadfast devotion and exemplary care. Dr Overton sets the example for all others to strive to attain. We are more than blessed to have found such an attentive and informed, selfless caregiver for our dogs and cats.
Pros: Somehow he's managed to retain a small town atmosphere in which everyone is friendly and sociable. Great bedside manner and a genuine interest in the care and treatment of your pets.
Cons: The real drawback is that there aren't more veterinarians like him.

APBT friendly!
by Jerad B.
I have always gone to Allen Animal Clinic b/c we have livestock, but have never felt comfortable with my pit bulls there. A lot of old country veteranarians like livestock and don't care for dogs... This was the case and my dogs sensed and it made me very uncomfortable with how edgey they were while being looked at. Not at Dr. Overton's! All of the 5 or 6 employees I came across on my visit were not scared of Junior even though he is an ear-cropped, muscle bound, little 60 lb. ball of fur. At least 3-4 employees got right down at eye level and talked with him, even though he'd been in an unfortunate tussle with his Daddy and looked a little disturbing, to say the least. My good little boy was so at ease, he let everyone who came by inspect any of his wounds with no objections. There were no disapproving looks from anyone inside, or the usual 4 steps backward "Is that a pitbull?" dance. I have absolutely found my new vet after over 20 years of going right down the street. Two thumbs WAY up!!!

I wouldn't take my pets to anyone else. Dr. Overton and his staff are a class act. I've taken my pets to his offices since 1981...when I first moved to Allen.
PROS: Class act all the way
CONS: The bird in the waiting room laughs at me...

I had the good fortune to find Allen Vet Hospital after leaving another veterinarian that I wasn't happy with. You can tell that Dr Overton really cares about the animals he takes care of. He is very friendly, in fact, sometimes he can get side-tracked when he is talking to you. His charges are very reasonable compared to the other vets in this area. He and his staff took such good care of our dog when he was sick and even sent me a card that they all signed after he died.

My first visit with Dr. Overton came about when my dwarf hamster scratched her eyes on some bedding, and Dr. Overton was the only vet that I spoke to who wanted to deal with a "pocket pet". Dr. Overton took such great care of my hamster and even did an eye surgery free of charge. About 6 months later, my hamster became very ill and had to be euthanized. Dr. Overton comforted me during the procedure and never once made me feel like my hamster's death was insignificant. After that, I began to take my 2 cat in as well and was always pleased with our visits. The only downside to Dr. Overton's friendly, chatty nature is that you may sometimes have to wait a little longer, but I think that he is definitely worth the wait.

Dr. Overton - Excellent Vet
by Elizabeth P.
We bought our dog as a puppy in 2002. We didn't ask around as we didn't know many pet owners at that time. We picked up the phone book and called Allen Vet. Dr Overton welcomed us into the family. the care was excellent. You can truly see that this man loves animals as well as ALL of their staff. One time while we were there Dr Overton even sat on the floor to play with our then 2 year old dog letting him lick his face. Not many people, unless a true lover, will let a strangers dog lick their face.

VERY reasonable price for a first time visit. Usually you have to pay for first time visits with most Vet's or Dr's you go too, not this one! WONDERFUL VET, he didn't break my wallet when I went to pay! LOL
