To all my Allen area friends. NEVER, EVER, take your pet to The ALLEN VETERINARY HOSPITAL. We took our beautiful, strong, 5 month old Lab to get her spayed on 11/1. I dropped her off in the morning and was to pick her up that afternoon. A few hours later we receive a call that she's dead. My opinion is they apparently gave her too much anesthetic and/or did not monitor her properly after the surgery. They claim "it just happens sometimes". We have used that Vet office many, many years but since Dr. Overton retired they cannot be trusted. That is unless you need your pet put down.......they seem to be good at that. They were however kind enough to say "sorry"

I think this is the top of the line in veterinary care. A loving, caring, and skilled vet who cares enough to care for your pet first and then see how you can take care of him yourself. I hope other people think I run my business with this much skill and caring too.

Dr. Coffman treated my Sadie like she was his own dog. He was kind, gentle and took the time to listen to me and answer my questions. He definitely made me and Sadie feel comfortable and special.

This vet hospital is awesome. No they dont do pointless tests or procedures if they feel it isnt necessary. If that is what your looking for go somewhere else. The doctors are great people who truly care about their clients. And the receptionists are awesome, they are to the point and dont put up with bs. No they dont care about money if you want proof you can ask the couple thousand clients who have bills they dont pay. Yes its a little dirty maybe thats because its a vet clinic thats been around since the 70s. They do their best to keep it clean but seeing as animals are constantly coming through there is going to be some hair and dust. It is not shiny and sparkly clean but does that really matter?? The prices are fair and you won't find better doctors anywhere in Texas.

I have read just about all the reviews about this hospital.... Some were helpful, some were sad, some were awesome and others just plain hateful and rude. There is a sense of class that one must have to come on here and talk trash and be rude...I however will tell you the truth. Just the plain, honest to God's TRUTH. The place is not spotless. But is that really important? There is a little dog hair here and there. Isn't that why they call it "fur"niture though? ;o) If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture. The front desk staff isn't full of sunshine and smiles. But they get the job done. What it all boils down to, is that your dog will be taken care of. They will be loved and cared for. There is a reason that this vets office has been around since I was little. (over 20 yrs ago) It's not because it's spotless or world class, it's simply because they get the job done and they do it all at a price that you can actually afford. I adopted a puppy in early Nov 2010. A few weeks ago he came down with something. It turned out to be Parvo. He in turn gave it to our other family dog. When they both had to be hospitalized, I was told that they may not make it. I of course was devastated. The puppy was a present to my girls (3&6) for Christmas. You see, my husband had just been transferred to another state to work. (It was either that, or loose his job.) And just 3 months prior, I suffered a miscarriage at 12wks. My girls had their entire world turned upside down... I now had to go home and tell my girls, not only had they "lost" their Daddy and their baby sister. Now they might loose both of their dogs. Both of our dogs spent over a week at Dr Overton's office and you know what....not just one of them....BOTH OF THEM...they made it. Not because the place was spotless, or the front desk staff was a ray of sunshine. But because they did the job they are there to do. Care for my dogs. Not clean the waiting area or give classes on the attitude adjustments that some of their front desk personnel is well in need off. They instead chose to take care of my dogs. Which is what they are REALLY there to do. They took care of both of my boys and they are ALIVE. I got to take both of them home. NOTHING can compare to the smile's on my girls faces. Smiles that they deserved to have. So it isn't about the front desk staff, the cleanliness or if they accidentally overcharged you and it took 2wks to get a refund. It's about the love you have for your pet and the love THEY have for your pet. The place isn't always full because they are awful. They are full because they care. It's not about the $. It's about the animals. And isn't that all that matters in the first place? To you, they are animals, to me, they are my babies and my family, who are hairy, walk on all fours & don't talk rudely or hateful. Something a few of you should think about yourselves. THIS VET ROCKS! End of story?..

I have had three expieriences with this clinic, and I have moved to a much better clinic!
1: My boyfriend's family recently adopted a dog from the Allen Animal Shelter, and tested heartworm positive. For treatment, we went to the Allen Veterinary Hospital, because of their cheap prices. I had spoken to another vet about the procedure, and was concerned for this dog's health, because we had had him for a few days. When I asked to run a simple CBC test before the treatment, I was scoffed at by the receptionist with tattoos covering her forearms, and told that it was unneccesary. When I insisted, I asked to be called with the results BEFORE treatment had begun. I called up to the clinic a few hours later, and was told that the treatment had gone well, and I must have missed the call.
The American Heartworm Society's standard procedure requires a urinalysis, x-rays, extensive bloodwork, and monitoring for several days. The Allen Veterinary Hospital DOES NOT FOLLOW THIS PROTOCOL. When I asked Dr. Coffman how many animals pull through this treatment, he said that any that didn't make it died of complications from heatworms accumulating in the lungs, something that COULD BE PREVENTED with diagnostic x-rays. Not to mention, that when we dropped the dog off, and I asked the tattooed receptionist to call with the results, Little Miss Sunshine said very loud and quite rudely, "Are you afraid your dog isn't going to make it?" I bit my tongue and didn't reply that yes, I was afraid of that, because he was having a poison injected into him.

2. I took my rabbit to Dr. Coffman for an inflamed eye. What does running a urinalysis have to do with an ulcer on a rabbit's cornea? NOTHING. Dr. Coffman took Chester, my rabbit, to the back room, and came back about ten minutes later with Chester wrapped in a towel, completely limp. They had put him under anesthesia to draw urine straight from his bladder, and I noticed Chester wasn't breathing. I yelled for the doctor, and Dr. Coffman stared at him with his jaw on the floor while the tech revived him.

3. I took a pet mouse to see Dr. Overton, and even though I insisted on seeing Overton, not wanting to deal with Coffman again, I wound up seeing none other than Dr. Coffman. I brought the mouse in because of three seperate issuses, and after resolving one, he began to show me the door. After I told him that we were not finished, he looked at his watch, and told me we didn't have time.

ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE! If you LOVE your pets, as I do, don't risk their lives!

I have moved on to a better vet, the Animal Hospital of Collin County. Dr. Wilson and Dr. Paine have been amazing in caring for my beloved pets.

Took my kitten in for some shots yesterday and also needed to make an apt for him to be neutered. Vet asked if i would like him to be neutered overnight. Picked up my kitten this morning and he is doing wonderful. Price was much lower than I expected. Great service!!

I have been taking our cat to AVH for 5 years. The quality of care is consistently great. It's unfortunate that others have had a bad experience. My family is in the process of relocating to another city, and I have had to board our kitty many times during the transition. The care and love she has received is exceptional.

Okay so I read some of the unfavorable reviews and I agree they need to remodel and things are a little worn out...But, That is not the important thing to them. Coffman and Overton are the most kind and compassionate vets you will ever meet. With their 1970's prices, their practice is so busy they work all the time. They are always there when you need them day or night and it is not just about the money with them. We love them and owe them both a debt of gratitude for everything they have done for our pets. Mistakes can happen and things can get overlooked but after all they are human and happen to think our pets are human too!

My husband and I have taken our personal pets to Dr. Overton and Dr. Coffman since the mid 90's. Their "bed side" approach and common sense way of thinking is among the best we have ever experienced. You are not just a number, they take time to talk with you, educate and help reach informed decisions about providing the best pet healthcare. A couple years ago I begn doing rescue work and bring all my rescued fosters to Dr. Overton, Dr. Coffman and Dr. Shiplov. I would highly recommend them as does my rescue group!

My husband & I have been taking our dogs to Dr. Overton for 22 years.
He is the BEST!! Dr. Coffman & Dr. Shiplov are in the practice now. They are a perfect fit. All the vets here care for your animals like they were their own. If you want caring, compassionate treatment, there is NO other practice like this.

I have been taking my pets to Dr. Overton and Dr. Coffman for many years now and will never go anywhere else. I am actively involved in both rescue and Therapy Dog work so I have numerous fur balls, not to mention 2 Field Trial Champs. The doctors are caring, patient and listen to your questions and concerns. The staff is always available to help and make sure I have everything I need. When my 18 year old Nickii became very sick with kidney failure, Dr. Coffman was the most compassionate, understanding vet a pet owner could ask for. I could not have went through the devastating loss without him. I recommend them to all my fosters and all my friends and would be lost with out them.

I was so surprised to see the negative reviews of Allen Vet Hospital that I felt a need to share my experiences. I have had nothing but good experiences with this vet. In fact, I drive 20 miles to bring my animals because the people are friendly, the vets are great, and the pricing is phenomenal. I won't take my animals anywhere else.

This place is filthy! I took my cat in to be declawed~ and when i picked him up~ after waiting more than 20 minutes for them to go to the back and get him~he was brought out with a choke leash around his neck and he was covered in his own feces.I was told they had problems removing him from his cage in the back~ so they had to put the leash around his neck to get him out, and they didnt clean him because the tech assistant was "new" afraid he might get bit. One of his bandages was removed ~ but the others were left on for me to take care of when i got home~i was told they could not remove the others because the cat was too aggitated. I was given metacam for his pain and told to give him .5cc a day, then reduce down to .05cc~ the dropper they gave me wasnt cc's, it was for dogs and measured by the pound~20lb, 40lb, etc.. (too much of this medicine could cause renal failure in cats). I had to call the office...and get an estimate of how many drops to use. After a couple days I noticed part of his right paw was missing 1/2 of the front pad~ cut right off. He now is suffering from signs of an upper respitory infection. I have made another appointment at a different vet. I will never step foot in this place again. The worst experience I have ever had with a Vet!

I have appreciated Dr. Overton's giving attitude with caring for our family's pets over the years. It has never been about how much to charge us, or how much he makes off of us. On the other hand, the "hospital" is dirty, and unorganized. His staff acts like they are doing you a favor by giving you a bill. Dr. Overton though doesn't make it a huge bill, which is appreciated. I just wonder why can't his love for the animals transfer to his staff and the way they care for the environment. I do remember the time though that we brought our dog in for x-rays to confirm whether or not our dog had puppies. She was supposed to be fixed from the SPC, wasn't and got pregnant. Because Dr. Overton said there were no puppies we went home. Only later to take her to the SPC, where she gave birth to 10 puppies. Why didn't it show up on the x-ray. Besides that one issue years ago, Dr. Overton has always been a wonderful caring doc to our dogs.
A makeover staff or office in general is definitely in order though.

I love Allen Veterinary Hospital and Dr. Overton. My entire family have brought our pets to Dr. O for years and we have always been very happy with not only the quality of care but the warm family hospitality that we feel and they show to our pets.
I would recommend Dr. O and staff to everyone.

I had a horrible experience at Allen vet. I saw Dr Coffman for a skin cancer spot on my cat. He gave him a 'depo' (steriod shot) to try to reduce the size of it. This depo shot triggered diabetes in my cat. I have had 2 vets tell me that he should have known better. My cat is an older, overweight male - this depo shot will almost ALWAYS trigger diabetes - especially in a cat like mine. If he had told me there was a chance this would cause diabetes I wouldn't have allowed him to give my cat the shot. I had been told by 3 vets that he is prone to diabetes (due to his size, weight). My cat has been so ill and we have spent countless dollars trying to help him. Please - for your pet's sake do not take them to this vet. This was my first visit and before I knew he had given him diabetes I had decided not to take him back because the place is a filthy mess!! They are cheap but you get what you pay for!!!!!!

I unfortunately have a bad review for Dr. Overton as well. We have 4 dogs and relocated to this area about 4 years ago. After searching the internet and reading wonderful reviews about Dr. Overton we booked an appointment and were extremely pleased?that was 3 years ago ?in the past year Dr. Overton??s office has gone down hill very quickly. Every visit with each of our pets has caused more stress and more concern about the care we are getting. I totally agree with the previous review that the waiting room, the rooms for exam are extremely dirty and the back always looks very disorganized and filthy. We currently have a puppy who is not yet a year old and 2 or our 3 visits with him I have left the office in tears. One of the last visits with our new puppy was with Dr. Overton and Dr. Overton ended up pushing my puppy over the side of the table and the only reason he didn??t hit the floor was I caught him and the bench beside the table stabled me. Dr. Overton??s response ??see what you did?, speaking to my puppy. This caused my puppy to be cautious of Dr. Overton and the next time Dr. Overton went to touch him my puppy turned his head quickly, not barking, snapping or growling. Whoever his new female assistant was at the time grabbed my puppy by the snout very roughly and said ??that??s enough?. I was not impressed with this at all. Our third visit with our puppy was due to a skin issue which had arisen and when Dr. Overton walked into the room our puppy now almost 70 lbs turned and barked at him?after not barking at anyone else we had come into contact with; which leads me to wonder if now he is scared of him due to the other visit. Dr. Overton immediately starting saying ??its fleas, its got to be fleas.? He said to me ??what flea prevention are you using?? I responded to HIS question ??nothing, because my dogs don??t have fleas.? Dr. Overton put his hand over his forehead, sighed heavily at me and said in a condescending manner ??how do you know? You know they are very small.? I said again, ??my dogs, none of my dogs have fleas, they just don??t, they never have.? He put his hand back over his face and in a very loud voice, almost yelling at me said ??I??m not going to argue with you about this, but this is probably due to fleas.? All 4 of my dogs sleep in my bed, live inside my house and swim in our pool all the time, I??m not a new dog owner who isn??t sure if my dogs have fleas or not. He then began to lecture me on fleas as he, without my consent started spraying my puppy down in flea spray to the point we couldn??t breathe in the room. I left so angry I didn??t hear anything else he said and the only reason I did not argue with him is I was so shocked at his behavior I felt it best for me to simply leave without another word. His male assistant knew we were upset and even stated in a nice, shy manner, ??yea" the good ole?? flea speech.? I??m very saddened about this decline and have commented several times wonder if Dr. Overton doesn??t need a vacation, a new set of staff and a new cleaning crew.

Dr. Overton is one of the most caring vets I've ever met. When my dog was dying from cancer, he did all he could... With an attitude that he wanted to fight for her life. When it came time for her to pass on, he made sure she was comfy.., let me hold her... And let me stay in the room as long as I wanted. We take all our cats and dogs here. They are always nice and helpful.., and no one is pretentious or rude. Sometimes that's hard to find in the Dallas area!

I am new to Texas. We picked Dr.Overton because he is close to where we live. I have had nothing but bad experiences there. The place is too busy and disorganized to make me feel comfortable. My first appointment I waited 45 minutes past my appointment and was getting up to leave when they finally saw me. The staff is rude and unhelpful. With all the Vets in Allen I would chose another. (I have!)

As a kid, Mom always took our dogs to Dr. Overton. Now that I am grown and a dog owner myself, I take them to Dr. Overton. You won't find a better deal in town, and you can tell he really loves the animals!

Several months ago I moved to Austin from Allen. Due to the economy I lost my job. My dog got sick and I needed help to get a prescription refilled. Most vets care more about the money than the animals...or so it seems.

I called Allen Vet Clinic and Dr. Overton rose to the occasion without question and called my pharmacy here in Austin to help me out. What a stellar act! In this fast moving crazy society, it is refreshing to find an "old school" attitude of care and concern.

Thank you Dr. Overton and your staff. My sweet old dog is better and it's because of you! You are true blessing to me in a dark time.

I, also, have noticed a significant decrease in performance at this clinic. We have been customers for over 30 years. Several weeks ago, our kitten broke her leg. We took her into the clinic at about 8:00am on a Saturday for emergency treatment. They placed her in a cage in the back room (the main cage area was full) and assured us that someone would see her and give us a call. When we had not heard anything by noon, we called back but could not get anyone (the office closes at noon on Saturday). We finally got in touch with the vet at home. He told us that nobody told him the kitten was there but he would go back to the clinic and let us know. We finally received a call about 5:00pm. The vet said the leg was broken and he was conferring with another vet and would set the leg that night. The clinic was closed on Sunday. We called Monday and were told that the vet would operate later that day. In mid-afternoon, 56 hours after bringing in the kitten for an emergency, we received a call that the kitten had passed away.

Previously, in May we had brought another cat to the clinic for a digestive ailment. This cat, also, passed away at the clinic from unknown causes.

Two times in one year seems more than coincidental.

I have also been going to Dr. Overton for 20 years. I don't know what is going on but over the last 2 or 3 years I've seen their practice decline. I did not make my mind up until several visits. There were complications when my dog went into labor and she had a C-section. Everyone had their hands all over the puppies. I was called to the back where they keep all the animals, do surgery, clean dogs teeth, keep other sick animals, board healthy animals, etc...all in one area. It was so filthy I could not believe it. The staff carried an extremely sick dog in on a stretcher, (big dog), and had their hands on this sick dog and others. When Dr. Overton called for assistance they did not even sanitize their hands before assisting with my dog and puppies. This happened more than once. Yet another time, someone else had a sick dog. When they left the examining room, no one cleaned the table. I held on to my healthy dog and when the vet came in and asked me to put my dog on the table, he did not clean or put a towel down. I asked him to do so. He seemed a little put out. I witnessed them take a dirty towel out of another cage and put it into a crate with another incoming little dog. I said something to the girl and she said it was clean. I can mention other situations about the cleanliness of this clinic but I think anyone can grasp the picture. I have always taken my animals to this clinic since I moved to Texas. It is unfortunate that it has gone down hill. I hope they will address these issues and turn it back around. If you go just make sure you ask them to wear gloves and sanitize before letting your precious pet sit on anything. I realize so many people have used them over the years but, look in the back room and go with your dog or cat if they are taken in there.

I have been going to Dr. Overton since I was a child with every kind of animal you can think of and he has always treated my animals with the kind of love and care I would give them. He is a wonderful doctor and person, he helped our family afford medical care for our animals when times were very hard for us and we have always been so grateful.

The only time I have ever seen another vet was when I moved out of state, and boy did I wish I could get back to Dr. Overton! Since moving back to Texas I have moved around the Dallas metroplex but I never switched vets, even when it was a 45min drive to get to the office! Dr. Overton and Dr. Coffman are worth it.

The entire staff is so great with people and animals, always so warm and friendly. Dr Coffman is a great addition to the practice, he has the same way with animals and people as Dr. Overton always has and I feel confident that he will do a great job with my animals for years to come.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the entire staff of Allen Veterinary Hospital! You guys are Awesome!

My girlfriend was the first to tell me about Dr. Overton's office. I decided to check some online reviews to see what others had to say. After taking my dog to him a couple times over the last month, I must say that he has even exceeded my expectations.

For my first visit, I saw Dr. Coffman and he treated my dog for tapeworm. He game me a wormer and a week's worth of antibiotics to firm my dog's stools. The office visit, wormer, and antibiotics were $68.

A couple weeks later I noticed my log was losing quite a bit of hair around his legs. I feared that he might have mange so I took him back to the vet's office. This time I got to see Dr. Overton himself.

He took some skin samples from his ears. After looking at his skin under a micrscope, he thought there was a good chance my dog had allergies. Since he wasn't completely sure with the diagnosis, he decided to prescribe a week's worth of allergy medication for my dog.

After he learned I had a second dog with itching problems, he threw in another week's worth of antibiotics for free. He also gave me a 30 day flea pill for both dogs. As I was leaving, he mentioned that he could also treat my dog for scabies (one form of mange). He gave my dog and a shot and told the receptionist to mark my dog's records but *not* to charge me for the shot as well. I ended up paying $27.

If this isn't a testament to the heart of this office, I don't know what is. Dr. Overton cares about your animals and will see to it that your dogs receive the best possible care for a very reasonable price.

I highly recommend you take your animals there. You won't regret it

This is a great veterinary clinic. All the doctors are very friendly and knowledgeable. They wont impose on you any unnecessary tests and do not have inflated fees. Dr. Overton is the sweetest and very down to earth.

We've been taking our pets to Dr. Overton for years, and we love him! Once, we had a female Golden Retriever that got very sick, and she ended up being at the AVH for 5 nights and had surgery, and it only cost $150!! We were blown away by the low cost, excellent service that they provided. We'll never go anywhere else! We will continue to recommend AVH to all of our friends.

We live in Richardson, but don't mind driving to Allen when our dogs need surgery. I completely trust they'll do what's best for my doggies and on top of that, the price is SO affordable! For our vaccinations we go to a vet around the corner from our house (a convenience thing), but I consider our dogs going to Dr. Overton similar to me going to see a specialist if I needed surgery.

Took my very sick 10 yr old cat; stayed overnight and had antibiotics and IV fluids; thought it would be a fortune....less than $200 bucks. Then, labrador retriever began to have seizures (again) and took her to put her on Phenobarbital. Once again, thought it would be a fortune. Ended up less than $50.
I love this office. It is fun, all staff are great, docs LOVE animals (you can tell) and all for way less than anywhere I have found.
You know, sometimes its not ALWAYS about the money. Its about the reputation you create for being loving and caring towards the animals AND their owners. Will recommend HIGHLY to anyone who asks.

In October 2007, my dog got out of the fence at our home. He was hot my a car and it broke my dog's front leg completely. My son's are the one's that found Bo and we rushed him to the emergency clinic. Fearing the worst, we didn't know quite what to expect. Bo stayed overnight at the clinic and the next morning we were told about Allen Veterinary Hospital and how awesome the doctors there are. I took Bo in right away the next morning and they treated me and Bo with such compassion. I immediately knew that Dr. Coffman would do everything he could to fix Bo's leg. Dr. Coffman, worked with me financially and althought it took three surgeries and 6 months. Bo is healed and back to his playful self. I absolutely love AVH and all the doctors and staff. They are wonderful and a Blessing from God.

I do rescue, out of my pocket. I guess that's why I tolerate the staff and the layers of grime everywhere, the permeating urine smell, and the exam rooms being dirtier than the parking lot.
(I've seen a dog mark the counter, and it was cleaned up with plain paper towels. nothing else.)
I found this vet two years ago, when I had to put my dog down. Dr. Coffman treated me like family, when we had just moved there and walked in off the street.
The Doctors are still great, but everything else is terrible!
It's very very hard to get anyone to A) Answer the phones, B) give you information of any kind, C) book an appointment any time this month. I've resorted to walking in at 5:30. We get in within 30 minutes. The last time I was there, a man and his wife had a 4:00 appt. They still hadn't been seen at 5:30. At the same time, another patient was forgotten inside an exam room. Dirty and unorganized doesn't begin to describe it.
Oh, yeah, they are very cheap.

I work in cat rescue and we had 2 kittens that came into the local shelter with leg deformities. Dr. Overton and his staff were able to treat them and even found loving homes for them saving our rescue group time and money. We were profoundly grateful and touched by the care there.

Recently, my son's dog had was in a mild accident and hurt his throat. My son called his vet and other area vets, and everyone was closed as it was New Year's Eve day. I asked him to call Dr. Overton and his office was open and we got the dog right in and he was treated and stayed overnight. I will always recommend Dr. Overton to anyone needing a new vet.

My fiance` and I recently acquired two mid-aged cats, priced many vets in the White Rock Lake area specifically for dental cleaning. All the vet offices that I have contacted have quoted $250.00 and up for one cat, not including blood work usually required for older cats to check vitals before being put asleep. Those prices weren't settling well with me especially when the office I previously made an appointment with couldn't even spend enough time on the phone to answer questions I found important. At this point I began my search to find a caring vet that would spent time answering my questions and concerns.

I had my first visit at Allen Veterinary Hospital today, have to say the reason I choose this office was because of the reviews from others on this site. Dr. Coffman was wonderful and treated my cats as his own. Getting an appointment was very easy, got in the same week called!
Very reasonable pricing these vets are not in the business strictly for the all mighty dollar, but for their love of animals. When your pet gets their annual vaccinations there's no office visit charged! They only charge $90 for one cat's dental cleaning and only $35 for pre-dental blood work- thats truly amazing! I will recommend this vet office to anyone and everyone I know.

I will have no problem driving from White Rock Lake area to Allen to benefit from a dedicated vet office that takes the time to answer my questions. I highly recommend them to cat and dog owners alike. I promise you WON"T leave with questions unanswered or feeling like your pocketbook has been robed. Two thumbs Way up!!

Dr. Overton and his staff are by far the best in Allen and possibly in Texas. They love animals and it shows. I would highly recommend them to anyone for any kind of pet.

Dr Overton and Dr. Coffman have taken care of my pets for several years and I feel fortunate to have such a caring place that I can fully trust their judgement regarding my dogs and cats.
My cat (who is a diabetic) has been under their care for many years - loves to go see the staff and doctors, which is most unusual
for a cat.
We truly feel fortunate to have found such a fine clinic.

Steadfast devotion and exemplary care. Dr Overton sets the example for all others to strive to attain. We are more than blessed to have found such an attentive and informed, selfless caregiver for our dogs and cats.

Pros: Somehow he's managed to retain a small town atmosphere in which everyone is friendly and sociable. Great bedside manner and a genuine interest in the care and treatment of your pets.
Cons: The real drawback is that there aren't more veterinarians like him.

I have always gone to Allen Animal Clinic b/c we have livestock, but have never felt comfortable with my pit bulls there. A lot of old country veteranarians like livestock and don't care for dogs... This was the case and my dogs sensed and it made me very uncomfortable with how edgey they were while being looked at. Not at Dr. Overton's! All of the 5 or 6 employees I came across on my visit were not scared of Junior even though he is an ear-cropped, muscle bound, little 60 lb. ball of fur. At least 3-4 employees got right down at eye level and talked with him, even though he'd been in an unfortunate tussle with his Daddy and looked a little disturbing, to say the least. My good little boy was so at ease, he let everyone who came by inspect any of his wounds with no objections. There were no disapproving looks from anyone inside, or the usual 4 steps backward "Is that a pitbull?" dance. I have absolutely found my new vet after over 20 years of going right down the street. Two thumbs WAY up!!!

I wouldn't take my pets to anyone else. Dr. Overton and his staff are a class act. I've taken my pets to his offices since 1981...when I first moved to Allen.

PROS: Class act all the way
CONS: The bird in the waiting room laughs at me...

I went to this vet because of the ratings from others at this site - and he is an excellent vet. He answered questions and made us feel at home! Thank you so much Dr. Overton!

PROS: Very Caring
CONS: Long waiting room wait (but worth it, he takes his time to be thorough)

The 3 doctors at Allen Vet are awesome! My grandfather had been going to Dr. Overton since the early 80's and I carried on the tradition. They have reasonable rates and friendly staff. I would highly recommend this vet to anyone and everyone!!!! They truly CARE about the ANIMALS, not the $$$!!!!

PROS: Everything about them!!!
CONS: NONE!

Dr. Overton has treated our animals for over 5 years now. He really cares about his patients and we've been very happy with him. His prices are very affordable and I've recommended him to all my friends. They also board animals and I've been very happy with this service as well.

PROS: Caring doc and staff, easy to get an appt., good prices
CONS: Sometimes the wait in the lobby is a bit long

I had the good fortune to find Allen Vet Hospital after leaving another veterinarian that I wasn't happy with. You can tell that Dr Overton really cares about the animals he takes care of. He is very friendly, in fact, sometimes he can get side-tracked when he is talking to you. His charges are very reasonable compared to the other vets in this area. He and his staff took such good care of our dog when he was sick and even sent me a card that they all signed after he died.

My first visit with Dr. Overton came about when my dwarf hamster scratched her eyes on some bedding, and Dr. Overton was the only vet that I spoke to who wanted to deal with a "pocket pet". Dr. Overton took such great care of my hamster and even did an eye surgery free of charge. About 6 months later, my hamster became very ill and had to be euthanized. Dr. Overton comforted me during the procedure and never once made me feel like my hamster's death was insignificant. After that, I began to take my 2 cat in as well and was always pleased with our visits. The only downside to Dr. Overton's friendly, chatty nature is that you may sometimes have to wait a little longer, but I think that he is definitely worth the wait.

We bought our dog as a puppy in 2002. We didn't ask around as we didn't know many pet owners at that time. We picked up the phone book and called Allen Vet. Dr Overton welcomed us into the family. the care was excellent. You can truly see that this man loves animals as well as ALL of their staff. One time while we were there Dr Overton even sat on the floor to play with our then 2 year old dog letting him lick his face. Not many people, unless a true lover, will let a strangers dog lick their face.

I have heard alot about this vet, People had recommended him several times, Well I took my puppy to this Vet. I got an app. within 45minutes. He asked questions, he Answered questions. VERY reasonable price for a first time visit. Usually you have to pay for first time visits with most Vet's or Dr's you go too, not this one! WONDERFUL VET, he didn't break my wallet when I went to pay! LOL
