I have been taking both of our autos to Tech Auto for several years. The only negative experience that I have had is that once...and only once...the car was not ready when promised; 5:00 PM, not 3:00 PM.
One of our cars, a '95 Honda Odyessy, has an 'ABS' light that constantly comes on. Bobby Harting advised that they could fix it so the light would go off and charge several hundred dollars, but that the repair was unnecessary. Not every shop would do that.
Bobby Harting guarantees the work for one year. They are friendly.
I recommended Tech Auto to a customer of mine... who is extremely critical and will bite your head off if you make a mistake. She RAVES about Tech Auto.
And, no, Mike C., I do not work there.

You have to wonder about all the negative reviews here. In my experience, the repairs are rushed and sometimes not even complete. Tech Auto Maintenance supposedly repaired my car's AC but failed to repair whatever problem was keeping the rear of the car from cooling. Another car we took in was repaired for over $1100 only to start acting up about 3 days later. We took the car in and guess what? Surprise surprise, we owed another chunk of change to the tune of $1,200. Yes, this place will drain your bank account in no time and good luck trying to talk to anyone about anything. Save your time and money by going to Midtown Automotive or someone like them.
As far as the review from "Randall", you have to wonder about its authenticity. So, Randall, if you REALLY exist, would you please drop us a line and let us know that this isn't some CYA on the part of Tech Auto Maintenance? We're all waiting...

While every individuals experiences vary, I simply cannot say enough good things about Tech Auto Maintenance. Recently, they did work on my car, my daughter's car, and my father-in-law's car, all within a month's time. Additionally, they've worked on my son's car in the past. What struck me was the difference in the amount of automobiles on the parking lot when I dropped my car off in the morning compared to when I picked it up that same evening. What had been a sea of cars and trucks had dwindled to only a handful. I had been told that my car would be ready that same day and, true to his word, Bobby (the owner) delivered on his promise. I could only think of how many people got their cars back that day so they could go on with their daily routines. Personally, I find that impressive, especially when one considers how many cars go through the place on a daily basis.As far as unexpected charges, I have a different outlook than others who have written reviews here. In my experience, it's always proved to be more prudent to address a problem when found rather than start from scratch with another visit. There were some unexpected items on my bill. However, there's no doubt in my mind that something unexpected was uncovered and needed addressed. I am just grateful to Bobby and his entire staff for making my experience, and those of my family members, as pleasant as possible. (he even drove me to work!)One last thing, I almost forgot to mention: Tech Auto Maintenance seems to have the most cutting edge diagnostics equipment in town. I personally believe that they are more accurate in their findings than most garages. So, when it's all said and done, they probably find unexpected things due to their high end equipment and just fix things as they find them.

I just got out of there and they did the same to me (below). Quoted me an outrageous amount, told them over the phone I would get a second opinion. They parked my car in a non parking zone on a one way street, had to go all the way to Allen Parkway just get off the road. Will never go there again. It's funny, I'm pretty sure all the great and wonderful reviews below came from their staff to cover up a previous bad review.

WARNING: Worst Experience Yet

We all know mechanics can be sheisters, but this one takes the cake. They've got a rep behind the counter named "Pebbles" if that tells you anything. Don't be surprised if you find pebbles in your tires and water in your tank if you decide to go else where. They quoted me on a list of work, $2200, so I went to my normal and reliable mechanic who is much further away, quoted me $800 and my car purs like a kitten now. Tech Auto also charged me $127 for diagnostic work (WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE) and later found out from another customer that they were charged $85 for the same diagnostic care from the same mechanic looking at my car. We got the mechanic to except $85 after questioning. So if you feel like getting screwed in the midst of an economic melt down- go to these people, they'll remind you just how horrible times really are.

Finally - a mechanic I can trust

Bobby and his employees are persons that you can really trust. Everytime I have taken a vehicle to them, it has been fixed beyond my expectations. Bobby is not your typical "mechanic". He only will replace parts with quality replacement parts. Some mechanics will replace parts with "cheap" parts only to make the price seem lower, this is not the case with Bobby and his crew. He only will use quality parts, yes they may be a little more expensive, but it is worth EVERY extra penny.

An honest mechanic

Tech Auto has worked on both of our cars over the past few years (we have cars that are 10+ yrs old.) They never over charge or try to screw us over in any way. They finish in a resonable amount of time, and keep the cars fairly clean. I have never had a bad experience.
Not knowing a thing about cars is scary. Someone could say, "Ma'am, you're going to need a new filagaler widgit, or your car will catch on fire. It's $500." and I'm at their mercy. It's so nice to have a mechanic I can trust.

Unnecessary work done

When I took my car to Bobby at Tech Auto after a friend and reviews on City Search recommended him, I was very disappointed. He did what I consider unnecessary work without calling to ask and insisted I pay for it. At least a dealer calls before doing something that costs more money than was quoted.

Bobby?s (Tech Auto) is about the best place you can end with a car problem. He is super friendly, a straight shooter and puts personal guaranty in the work he does. He will give you excellent and speedy service, and at the end of the day he isn't going to pillage your wallet when paying time comes up. I have always had top notch service at this guy so if you live in this part of town or if you like I live outside Houston what to go the extra distance to get the job done then bobby is the man you need to go see. My only regret is that he only handles Cars, life sure would be better if he could do all of life?s quirks.

Tech Auto has honest and expert service.

Bobby and his mechanics at Tech Auto have replaced ball joints on my PT Cruiser and did it cheaper than the dealer and quickly. They rebuilt the motor and tranmission on my husbnd's 1981 Chevy truck and we've driven that truck to Puerto Vallarta and back twice with no problems. I trust them when they tell me what my car needs. They finish the repairs quickly and on time.
Pros: quick, honest, reliable, reasonable cost.
Cons: none i've encountered.

Finally someone I can trust

Tech Auto just may be my luckiest Houston find. Quick and reliable service. Bobby is super! You can trust that he won't charge you for or perform unnecessary services....only what needs to be fixed. Being a female, I've always felt that auto shops take advantage of my gender and lack of knowledge. But not here. I totally trust Tech Auto and have recommended many friends who feel the same way! Bobby is super about ensuring he gives you the best service possible and follows up just in case.
Pros: Great service, Trustworthy, Great value

Fixed my Audi, and gave me a ride to work!

My Audi's warranty was up so I thought I'd try this place by my house. (And because it's on the way to work/near dowtown). The place is new and pretty clean, and the prices weren't as high as they would've been if I went to the dealership anyway. The guy I dealt with (think he was the owner) wasn't all scary or too "this is what's wrong with your car, little lady." Basically, I didn't feel like he was going to rip me a new one! And they gave me a ride to work!
Pros: Professional, Credible, Near Downtown/Allen Pkwy
Cons: No "Loan Cars"
