My husband likes to go here for business lunches. A fabulous place with great ambience. Good lunch portions that won't overstuff you.

This is another downtown top 3 steakhouse, with an ambiance unlinke any other place in Houston and a mune which never ceases to amaze. The NY Strip is incredible and the seafood appetizer amazing, with a decor to match the coolness of the patrons and waitstaff. The only drawback I can see is the location in an awkward part of downtown, otherwise a must for steak lovers in Houston.

The food is sensational. Absolutely second to none. However.... the AC has been broken for YEARS? has anyone else gone to the strip house Houston in the summer time? the servers are literally dripping sweat. Why can they not afford a new

Never dissapointed and cant wait to go back !! The caviar baked potato is a must order also. Finally the wine selection is great and price great.

I absolutely think this is one of my favorite steak houses in Houston. Such an artistically interesting concept and the food is magnificent. For starters we had the bacon salad. Hands down the best bacon I've had in a LONG time. It was fat, juicy, and fully of flavor.

My husband and I both ordered a New York Strip and a Bone-in Ribeye, which came out gorgeous and cooked to perfection. For sides we had the black truffle creamed spinach, the creamed corn, and one of our favorites, the Romanov potatoes. The creamed spinach had such a pungently good flavor that matched the taste of the steaks. Each entree also came with grilled garlic - YUM!

We finished everything with the 24 layer chocolate cake, which basically put us into the best food coma we've had in a while.

I love the ambiance of the old photographs from twentieth century Europe -it reminded me of sitting inside the Zumanity Cirque du Soleil show and eating the prized meal of the day. Everyone there seemed to be enjoying themselves there and we were definitely very well taken care of by the staff.

I was privledged enough to attend a tasting of some of the Strip House's new menu items with the CitySearch Dictators last month and was not let down. Their delicious steaks are aged for 24 days. Lightly covered in salt and pepper they cook the steaks at 1800 degrees F and then let the meat rest for 2-3 mins to allow themeat to sitand reabsorb the juices. The result is perfection!

The Strip House even offers a 24 layer chocolate cake, that is featured on the television program, the Best Thing I've Ever Eaten. I will say that it is certainly good, but I am still searching for that cake personally.

Other new items of interest were the crab cakes, the sliders, the sprig rolls, and the grilled tuna. I will hav to go back to this wonderfully decorated establishment in order to check out the bar as well as some of the classy pictures on the wall.

They have been in the same location for five and a half years and offer complimetary valet parking for paying customers.

Pros: Glorious Steak

My boyfriend and I have visited the Strip House several times and always leave impressed. Truly one of the best steaks I have ever had and the Blue Cheese fondue is a must! The service is always wonderful and the waiters are very informative. We always have a great experience and the Strip House is a must try and least once, especially for steak lovers

How can they seriously charge $4 for Diet Coke and $14 for house Cabernet. That's despicable. I also happened to have a $100 gift certificate that I tried to use, but "it has no cash value", which means I had to spend it all at one time instead of $50 for one visit then $50 for another. Very poor form on their part. Needless to say, I'll only go one more time, to use the gift certificate, then no more.

Took my husband here for his birthday after hearing/reading the great reviews and was severely disappointed. First, the valet was $7. Valet should always be complimentary, especially when you're shelling out $200+ for dinner and when you don't have a choice.

The ambience...The place tries very very hard to be posh but falls short everywhere. The best they could come up with is the opulent-looking velvet wallpaper. The rest is a bit schizo, trying to be both hip and modern and classic steakhouse at the same time. There are red leather booths, but they're cheap and uncomfortable. The crowded table setup, and substandard furniture reminded me of a strip mall mom&pop and left no room for intimacy...we could hear the conversations of both the table right next to us, and the one 2 tables down.

Onto the food...I ordered the foie gras to start and was served a large, cold, unrecognizable tube of paste served on a whopping king size bed of straight-out-of-the-jar dates, with a plate of extremely large baguette. This place needs to take a serious lesson in SUBTLE foie gras, from the venerable Cafe Annie, where foie gras is always done right. The green beans were completely undercooked, and my snapper, which was just decent, was served on some sort of frothy green liquid. This place is all about gimmick and needs to spend more energy on creating good food. The steaks are all ridiculously overpriced. It's like they're trying to convince you they're good just through the price (not through the taste). I don't mind paying a high price for a good cut of meat, but for the mediocre skills of the chef, it was nothing short of presumptuous.

The service. Decently attentive, but not polished. There were complimentary shot glasses of soup and pecan praline from the chef, but both were served flippantly. The service, like the food, reminded me of Outback Steakhouse pretending to be a Mark's.

And to round off the evening, when we went to retrieve our car, the valet left our keys in plain sight on the valet stand, while both he and his partner left for 5+ minutes. Very agitating.

If this place was a $ or $$, I would probably give it a 3 or 4 star, but considering the price you pay, the overall grade is 1 star.

Pros: It wasn't *bad*

Cons: Mediocre service, Mediocre setting/ambience, Mediocre food

I dined here on February 23 and would recommend this establishment to my closest friends and relatives. My out of state guest and I were served by David, who was friendly without being familiar, and attentive without being intrusive. He epitomized the caliber of staff one hopes for and expects in a fine dinning establishment. My guest and I each enjoyed a 10 oz petite fillet cooked to our specific tastes and served at optimum temperature. I had the Caesar salad and my guest the mixed greens salad. Both salads were expertly prepared with very fresh ingredients and arrived with a compliment of breads. For sides I really enjoyed the Romanov Potatoes (It was like a big puff of fluffy scalloped potato with cheese) and my guest the garlic green beans which were crisp and delicious. The ice cream desert was billed as hand made, implying "in-house". Even though it was premium quality I have my doubts as they tasted like my favorite Blue Bell flavors.
Dinner was served with a bottle of Faust Cabernet Sauvignon. I don't remember the year. It was what one would expect at $105.00 a bottle and I returned home with the re-corked bottle.

My wife and I went Saturday night for restaurant week and ordered the filet with a ceasar salad. The food quality and wine was good, but the portions were ridiculously small. We knew the filet was 6 oz. (although mine was much smaller than my wife's), but the size of the salad was a joke. A few bites and it was gone. Also, the steak came with creamed spinach and it was only a couple of tablespoons spread around the steak. No potatoes or anything else to add substance. In addition, the service was terrible, the food was just "dropped off" without any conversation and we were not even asked if we wanted coffee before the dessert was also simply "dropped off." When I called the next day to tell the Manager, Fred, about our experience, he offered us nothing; which just completed the whole experience.

I've had the pleasure of dining at the strip house several times. Each of the dinners there were absolutely fabulous. Furthermore, dinner service was impeccable; the wait staff is like a bunch of ninjas...you never know who just helped you, but you knew he was there :) Not to mention, the sommellier was extremely knowledgable and recommended an excellent bottle of wine that was far UNDER my budget (and Im a wine snob). HOWEVER, I will say that I ate there for lunch yesterday and the food was on par with the norm, which was very good, but the service was terrible for the price you pay. Lunch for 3 of us without alcohol was nearly $150. For that price I would expect to have much more attentive waiters and the food should not take as long as it did to be delivered. Personally, due to the great experiences Ive had for dinners there, I will give lunch another try. If it is not better, I will come back and suggest skipping lunch at the strip house and just go there for dinner.

The Strip House was fine, but, in my estimation, isn't worth revisiting. There are much better places to get steak. Also, the Caesar salad was terrible, the beet salad was middling, the "truffled" spinach hadn't even a hint of truffle. The meat was fine, but my wife's steak had pleasant charring while mine did not. The dessert was pretty horrible. But I liked the decorations.

I had dinner here on Thursday & was disappointed w/ most of the dishes. My friend & I shared the lobster bisque for our appetizer. My friend thought it was one of the best she's had. I thought the flavor was there, but needed more texture. My friend & I both had bone-in ribeyes for our entre. It was bad. I was very disappointed as I've only heard great things about the steaks here. Both of our steaks were very dry although they were cooked medium. My friend sent hers steak back & I was on the fence about mine back. I've only once every sent a steak back. I had about half of my steak & left the rest since it wasn't worth eating. My friend & I both were disappointed in our salad & garlic fries also.

I have dined at Strip House several times and it has always been on my Houston favorite list. On my most recent visit I ordered the new bacon appetizer which was delicious. A special summer wine list was also new that had really great deals on some great wines. My NY Strip was cooked perfectly as usual but I was a little disappointed that the clams appetizer was no longer on the menu. Service was attentive and pleasant and the manager gave us a $7 credit on the bill for the valet charge. It was nice to see the added extras that were provided in a time when everything else is getting more expensive.

Very marginal at best. We went there on a Sunday evening and it was fairly deserted. Snooty waiter. Ordered a Heineken Light and they did not carry it. Lobster linguini bland. Stek charred on the outside but fairly good. Desert horrible-creme brulee and profiteroles. With all the other steakhouses in town. this place will be gone in a year. The ambiance and decor are pathetic. What's the theme?

If you like an overpriced steak that tastes like it was drenched in movie theater butter- go to the Strip House. I had heard such great things about it, my boyfriend took me there for my birthday. I was very disappointed. The butter taste was so strong, I couldn't even tast the expensive fillet. This chain myst get by on the burlesque theme and name-definitely over-hyped. There are much better places in Houston to get a good steak!

Opening a steakhouse in Houston, TX is sort of like skinny dipping with swimsuit models - you better be sure of what you got! These steaks are good but not great. There are well spiced and cooked but are charred on the outside. This could be impressive if it wasn't for the other dozen steakhouses in town that are absolutely stellar! The pictures of vintage girls are spectacular and innovative. The filet is a great choice and the spinach is great - not $12 great but great none-the-less. Wine selection is a little lacking but it probably didn't phase the prom crowd that found it's way into the place during the late spring. In short, this is a great restaurant but has to much competition in this town to truly stand out.

It's so hard to find a steak without seasoning-overkill. The Strip House has great service, atmosphere, drinks and food. I haven't been disappointed yet...except when I look down to find the side dish of cream corn is gone.

My husband and I wanted to go somewhere special for our 5th anniversary, and we both like steak, so after reading the reviews of Strip House we decided to go there. We made a reservation for 6, and when we arrived we were greeted warmly by the host and were promptly seated. The atmosphere was great, really sensual with tasteful pictures of 40's era pinups. Our waiter came by and offered us water, and we accepted. Imagine my surprise when he brought not a pitcher of ice water, but a bottle of Fiji water that neither of us wanted but we ended up having to pay for. He also offered us a cocktail and the wine list, but he did not give us the cocktail list, only the wine list, which had ridiculously high priced wines. He did take a minute to explain the specials, but other than that couldn't seem to be bothered to talk to us about the menu. We had the Caesar salad and lobster bisque to start out with. Both were very good. The bisque especially was outstanding. We both ordered the boneless rib eye with a side of potatoes Romanoff. Our food came out really quickly, however the steaks were off temperature, lukewarm at best, and the flavor was disappointing. Rather bland and lacking seasoning. We cook steaks that have better flavor at home. I felt that the food was good, but not great, and was overpriced for what we actually received.

I think the Citysearch warning about large groups receiving the bulk of the attention from the wait staff is right on the money. There was a table with four people next to us, and their waiter spent a lot of time going over the menu and explaining things to them. He seemed to care that they had a good experience, and they got much better service than we did. Our waiter seemed to only care how much we spent. I felt like he was trying to inflate our bill to increase his tip by pushing overpriced water and wine on us.

Bottom line: Great atmosphere, poor service, overpriced food for what you get. Morton's is a much better choice.

The first word that comes to mind when I think of my experience at the Strip House is SULTRY. The decor is certainly hot hot hot; however, it was not as quiet as I would have liked during a romantic dinner. The lighting was great, and the service was unbeatable! My lobster (in the lobster linguine) was overcooked & my husband thought that his vegetable roll was totally bland. There wasn't anything special about the creamed black truffle spinach, but he really enjoyed the tuna. The gorgonzola fondue appetizer was huge & delicious, and the 24-layer chocolate cake was good (but the only thing worth writing home about is the size). It was the first time I've ever been served an amuse bouche, so that was interesting. We made reservations for Feb. 13, were seated immediately, and spent almost 2 hours there. I recommend asking for a corner booth when making a reservation for 2.

My wife and I celebrated Valentines Day at this establishment. The food was good and the atmosphere was ok but the place was loud. Also we made reservations for 9pm and could not be seated till almost 10pm! What the hell is the point of making reservations? May try again some day other than a holiday. Is there a quiet restaurant left in Houston?

I love the atmosphere at the Strip House. Makes you feel more like Chicago or New York than Houston. Great decor with rich reds and leather, ladies on the walls (not graphic, though), thick juicy steaks and good draft beer.

We heard a lot about the place and decided to check. Steaks were good but not exceptional - definitely overpriced. Decor is okay but we expected more considering the name/theme and raving reviews. Service is average and rather non-personal.
Dessert to share is enormous size, will be enough for 4 people, however, we expected our chocolate cake to be richer. You will not be disgusted by the place but will not want to come back either.

I had Dinner here this past Saturday night and the food ,wine list and service were perfect. It was one of the best steaks I have ever had. The wine list may be small but covers all the bases and I was told by the sommelier she changes it weekly so you will always find something new on it. Service was top notch better than the other big citys that I travel to for business. This is a must try steakhouse!

We experienced Strip House on our anniversary. Monarch -- still too new to offer a table to mere mortals -- was our first choice, but we were happy to try this place as a close runner-up. My wife made the reservation and was asked if it was a special occassion. We were treated to a "happy anniversary" greeting upon our arrival and seated side-by-side in a nice banquet that provided a great view of the busy room. The unhurried, but masterfully attentive service was the first thing I noted. Our waiter made us feel instantly welcome and special, as if we were his only table, which we were not. We spent a good 15 minutes pouring through the simple menu and expensive wine list. A $75 petit syrah seemed like a bargain, hidden among pages of triple-digit company. Upon hearing about the "surf-and-turf" special, however, I was sold to go off the menu.

My dish was medium sized filet mignon medallions served on a bed of lightly sauteed spinach and wine-rich mushrooms in a truffle sauce that infused the spinach deeper with every bite. I saved the "turf" portion of the meal -- a jumbo, three-bite shrimp, stuffed with crab meat and wrapped in peppery bacon -- for last. In all, this was a bold complement to the light Caprese salad appetizer I had ordered in anticipation of the robust flavors to come. I was not disappointed.

We finished the mellow wine, taking in the room of local celebrities and celebrants. It seemed like everyone was celebrating something -- and why not? Our waiter topped off things with a comped slice of the 24-layer cake with "happy anniversary" written in chocolate on the plate. It was enough for four people to share and was moist and delicious.

My wife and I remarked that places like Strip House were the bonus for living in a big city with a bustling reataurant scene. Some two years after their opening, they still seemed eager to win new customers and still delivered an exceptional experience.

Cons: The wine list is well chosen, but offers no real bargains

I had a blast at the Strip House, the style was eclectic and s*xy. I was on date number six with a tall glass of chocolate milk, anyways we had reservations but our table wasn't ready no problem we'd start in the bar and have a cocktail, but no time to sit, the hostess comes to get us before our butts were in the seat! She took us to our table, restaurant was packed but the waiter was attenitve and unobtrusive... excellent service brought out a starter from chef as a compliment. Wine list could be meatier. Fopd was excellent and right on time.

There were numerous aspects of this restaurant that were not up to par. Most importantly, the food was average. Allegedly the best lobster bisque in town, my bowl was decent, but not what would be expected for a place such as the Strip House. My steak was dry. The dining room is loud, and the service was awful for an establishment in this stratum. There are innumerable places in town that are better. I will not be back.

As the organizer of a monthly lunch meeting, I booked a reservation for 12 in one of the restaurant's private dining rooms on October 26th. Most of us had not been to the restaurant before and were struck by the decor and warm, seductive atmosphere. As the food arrived, I saw smiles turn to oohs and ah's once everyone took bites of their meal. We were so impressed that we asked to speak with the chef who graciously spent several minutes with us talking about the food. Can't wait to sample dinner!

My colleagues and I had a very enjoyable dinner at the Strip House this past sunday evening (12/17/06). Here is a summary of our experience and food: Food / Drink: Overall - wonderful. Would have no hesitation ordering any item again during a future visit. - Scotch / Wine: very good selection. Impressive wine list. - Appetizers: Scallops(very good); Tomatoes(very good) - Sides: Creamed spinach (delicious); Green beans (very good) - Steaks: Filet mignon (cooked perfectly; the best I've had anywhere in recent memory) - Deserts: None (too full) - Decor / ambiance: enjoyable. Not too noisy, but not a library either. - Service: Very attentive and pleasant. Didn't feel neglected. Timeliness of food delivery was appropriate and consistent. - Price: Perhaps a little pricey, but we felt the food quality and experience was worth the price. We agreed we would definitely eat here again. Excellent evening. No complaints.

We recently celebrated our anniversary at Strip House, and the meal and service were flawless from start to finish. The sommelier recommended a delicious wine we had never tried -- he was very informative and friendly. Our steaks were perfectly cooked -- my filet, which I ordered rare with extra char, was impeccable. It was very tender with great flavor. The garlic fries were also delicious! Our server was attentive without being obsequious. We finished up with a nice after-dinner drink. The atmosphere at the Strip House is lively and fun -- half of the fun of going there is how naughty it feels! I would highly recommend it.

My husband and I celebrated my birthday and our anniversary here last week and it was fantastic. The service was very professional and friendly. The lobster bisque was the best I've had in Houston and the steaks were superb. When the manager found out it was my birthday, she sent over a slice of the 24 layer cake, which was very rich and sweet, just the way a chocolate cake should be. The cocktails were also tasty, the bartender makes an excellent cosmo. I recommend the Strip House to all my friends.

You walk into Strip House and your eyes LOVE the decor. It is New York glamorous and Vegas hot! Their more than courteous staff greets you with a smile. We started with a fine merlot suggested by our waiter and then Clams Casino. Then we ordered the 10oz filet and lobster. WOW!! Better than all the rest! And don't forget the sides...potatoes romanoff is a MUST! And leave room for dessert because you have to taste the 24 carat chocolate cake!!!!!! BEST BIRTHDAY MEAL I HAVE EVER EATEN!

There was no wait to be seated but we had reservations. We were there celebrating my friend's birthday and we just happened to mention it to the waiter not expecting any special treatment. He said we don't do anything for birthdays. Well, as much as you pay for a meal the least they could do is bring out a plate that says happy birthday written in chocolate. Otherwise, this is a really nice spot for that special occasion evening.

I can not applaud enough the seductive textures and awesome cuisines that The Strip House provides. Prompt service from valet to presentation of the bill. The hostess Bailey is articulate with her words and jovial in remarks. Servers are personal and knowledgeable on the menu selections and suggestive on Todays Specials. Food delivery is professional and accurate with a smiles and request. Music selections could be better selected to embrace the culture of the ambience. Private dining or special occasion rooms are available upon request. Take the dessert with you to cap the night with comfort & compatibility.

Pros: Downtown destinations for business travelers, Happy Hour is Electric and cozy.

Wow! What a fantastic evening! My boyfriend and I had heard about the restaurant, and finally had an opportunity to dine here. The ambiance was very upbeat and trendy, and the staff was fittingly professional.
I've never had a more perfectly prepared New York Strip in my life! The shrimp cocktail were massive and full of flavor. I could make a meal just from the side items. The au gratin potatoes were to die for and the creamed spinach was simply scrumptous! The wine list was very impressive and the server assisted us in selecting a bottle that we both enjoyed.

Good steaks and wine selection. Service was as expected. After dinner, the valet pulled our car to the front of the restaurant and we promptly saw my wife's sunglasses laying in the floorboard and noticed that the glove box was broken. The valet manager was very professional, accepted responsibility, and assured me it would be fixed. However, when I called the valet's office the following week as instructed they told me they didn't do anything wrong and would not fix my car. I won't be back to the restaurant.

Wife took me there for an early Father's Day dinner, and it was amazing. Service was very polished, ambiance was very romantic despite all the topless pictures around us. Wife ordered the filet, which was cooked perfect to her expectations, and I ordered the 32oz prime rib, and requested an end cut. I got a huge piece of beef which was well marbled, but well seasoned to perfection. I could've eaten it all in that sitting, but decided to save some for the next day. We had green beans and fried potatoes, both of which were very delicious. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is a lover of steak and of opulent steakhouses.

Only drawback is since the restaurant is not as big as other clubby steakhouses, the seating is limited, and our table for two wasn't too cozy. Also, don't bring kids unless you want them to get an eyefull.

My bf took me here Valentine's Day. The restaurant was beautiful and very romantic. We arrived about 20 mins. late, but was seated promptly. ALL the food we ordered, was superb. From the soup shot (brought out by the chef), steak, wine, and dessert. The atmosphere was dim, very romantic, but it was very noisy. I plan on coming back more than once to try out the rest of the menu. Strip House is great for a special evening!

We were immediately impressed with this restaurant upon entering. High ceilings, dim red lighting, and a lively crowd were the first things we noticed. The pictures of nude women on the walls were artistic, tasteful, and not at all offensive. Service was top notch. Our server was friendly, knowlegeable and attentive. The food was excellent! I had the 6 oz filet mignon which was cooked perfectly. Our sides included mushrooms, asparagus, collard greens and kale and goose fat potatoes!! I will definitely be back to this downtown Houston restaurant!

Celebrated a birthday last Friday, everyone loved it! The filet medallions melted in my mouth, creamed spinach was a hit. The roasted garlic was the best I have had! And this chocolate cake I heard about, I understand now, it was a piece of heaven.

Visited last night for the 1st time. What a great experience. Also it was wonderful to have a waiter who knew his wines. Steak was without a doubt the best I have had in Houston. The sides were great too - potatoes, spinach and mushrooms. Looking forward to my next visit.

Me and my family went there to go eat there once, the moment we walked in the staff greeted us promptly, and seated us promptly. everything form the service, setting, parking, food was incrdeible, but my recomendaiton si that DO NOT eat the chicken. I don't know how others feel aobut their chicken but my sister ordered 3 different chicken items off the menu and all tasted horrible, to the point that even the waiter had to agree. But this palce is wonderful and i know where to take my girlfriends now.

P.S. The filet mignon is delicious

I celebrated my birthday here and the place was wonderful. The waitstaff was courteous and really helped me out with the menu. I'm not too fond on the different cuts of steaks, but the waiter was able to describe the entree's and I wound up having the best steak of my life! They even surprised me with a birthday cake, and man was that cake HUGE! Great spot for a dinner date or business meeting. I happened to glance at the happy hour crowd and they were having a great time as well!

We ate here recently with three outher couples who are friends of ours. We tried the seafood appetizer made for sharing with the whole table; it was wonderful. It came with King crab legs, lobster, marinated bay scallops, shrimp, and oysters on the half shell.
For dinner, I opted for the lamb ribs, while my fiancee had the filet mignon. Both of our choices were incredibly delicious. For dessert, try the chocolate cake. It's not the best I have ever had, but they bring you a HUGE slice that is big enough to share with the whole table. Oh.......the creamed spinach and marinated mushrooms are excellent. I would like to see larger portions of the spinach and mashed potatoes however; a few less pricey additions to the wine list would also be nice.

We were blown away by our new favorite restaurant. Our waiter arrived and offered us cocktails to start but we declined since we had to drive. We started off with a shrimp cocktail which was divine. For our entrees my husband ordered a New York Strip while I decided on the Filet. When they arrived we were a little concerned because they almost looked burnt. To our surprise once we cut into them, they were perfectly cooked and the slight char really added to the flavor of the meat. We paid our check which was only $100 and as the waiter returned he actually offered to have our car pull up for us from the valet. We parked at the meter on the street but were so impressed that this option was offered to us. We had a wonderful experience and were so thankful for the great food and service.

Some of the worst service I have had in Houston! From entry into the restaurant to paying the bill! Not only were we trying to get service, the diners around us seemed to be just as frustrated! Problem with the way the meat was cooked, rare was medium and the medium was charred almost! Wine list was nice, but got no steward and the waiter had no clue how to serve wine. Wasn't offered desert, had to request this from waiter after he acted like he was rushing us out (two people spent almost $400 with wine, why would he rush us?) and then after we finished we felt like he must have forgotten about us because then we couldn't get our check! Not even close to any well known, great steak houses of New York.
