This is a horrible store, don't go here!! Animals are crammed into tiny cages, and I wouldn't be surprised if they are diseased or genetically defective from inbreeding. There are puppy-mill puppies here. Steer clear!!

My family loves going to this small business owned pet store. We live in Lake Forest in Round Rock. We visit the store at least once a week to buy something our pets need. We have purchased reptiles, amphibians, fish and pet supplies over the years. I love that I can call ahead of time....if I'm in a hurry & ask them to get feeder fish or crickets or bird food ready for me & they will so when I walk in because I'm on a tight schedule it's ready, so I can pay & go. We even rescued a bird once outside & I took my boys to Partners & they had a used cage I purchased which saved me money. I didn't want to go buy a NEW cage at Petsmart for twice the amount. I like the fact that when my boys decide they want another new pet, I can bring a pet (like a bearded dragon) &they will buy it from me/ give me a store credit. We really love the fresh water fish collection. The prices are significantly cheaper than Petsmart for fish and fish food. We just recently bought a beautiful Conure bird for $120 which was $200 at Petco.

They've got the best prices around for marine Live Rock!! I shopped around. They also have a great selection of fish and inverts, and if they don't have it, they can order it for you. I've had them order fish for me and they called me as soon as they came in. All these people that are griping about them selling puppies are idiots. Have you ever tried getting a full bred, certified puppy at a shelter? Some people want that and should be able to get it from wherever.

The owner has been a family friend since I was 2! Now I am 21, so I pretty much grew up at this place...

First of all I would like to respond to the certain people who are "anti-breeders", your an idiot!! As a responsible breeder, trainer, and dog parent, I am so tired of people always blaming breeders, and not puppy mills, there is a difference, in fact a very large difference.

Now, with that said, I do agree with one thing that was said, I would never sell my puppies to a pet store, but I have Cavaliers, and as most people know they tend to have heart problems, and so ALL of my breeding stock and cavi pets visit a vet regularly to check their heart, and all my puppies and dogs are placed in homes with the same commitment to this breed

But I have not done the research on Partner's puppies, or on where they come from so I can't give a recommendation on that....
But I have purchased other pets from here over the years, one of them being my very first bird when I was about 11. It was a small finch, and every time I stuck my hand in the cage to feed it it would attack me, so we took it back to Adam, and he was kind enough to switch it out with a parakeet.

He didn't do this because he was friends with my dad, because in all honesty, Adam makes friends with everyone. Usually when I'm in his store, I have noticed that every person who walks through the door he knows by name.

The only advice I can give on getting a puppy is do your research! First of all you should pick a breed that will fit your life style, and read at least 2 books on that breed (that way you don't miss any important information) There are also many quizzes you can find online that will match you with a breed

After you pick your breed, decided the age you are wanting and would best fist your life style. Most people want puppies, but only people who have lots of time and knowledge should get a puppy. But if you are set on a puppy start researching breeders, if going through a pet store, ask them if you can get the breeders name and number (if they wont give it to you, look some where else! its not worth possibly getting a puppy mill dog! No matter how cute they are, all puppies are cute!) You should ask the breeder things like what medical checks do they do on their breeding stock, do they show their dogs in conformation, or if the breed is a hunting breed do they hunt with their dogs, you want a breeder that has dogs that do what that breed was meant for. You should also ask if its possible to meet the parents of the puppy, if not, there is usually something wrong and you should run away! Also ask for names and numbers of people who have dogs from this breeder that are 2 years old or older, you should talk to these people and see if they are having any problems with their dogs.

Another great way to go is rescues, there are many rescues dedicated to certain breeds, but these dogs are usually older. But whats great about that is most of the time these dogs are in foster homes, so they are more than likely already trained! And the adoption fee is almost always less expensive than going through a breeder. Its almost a win/win!!

I am never one to leave a negative review, but I felt compelled to stand up for what is right. I just recently visited Partners for the first time. I am not a fan of pet stores in the first place. I know that animals should not be exploited and sold in such conditions. I can honestly say that I felt ashamed walking into this store. Five minutes after walking through the front doors was all it took before I was heartbroken and in tears. To begin on a light note: No animals should be living in such conditions. All of the animals were in cages way to small for them or crammed in with 50 roommates with no space to even walk around. All of the cages were filthy. The poor puppies couldn't even stand because their little paws were falling through the bottom of the cage, into their own filth. Some of the puppy cages didn't even have food. I do agree, these pups were way to young to be away from their mothers. They should be with her until the day that they go off to a good home. None of the animals seemed to be getting any kind of human interaction, not even the dogs. The staff felt pretty comfortable sitting around instead of taking care of business like cleaning or feeding the animals. Not to mention what happens when the staff leaves at close. With all of the windows painted black, all of those animals just sit there for hours and hours in pitch black.

This is definitely not a place I would ever recommend to anyone. Which is really sad to say because those animals need to be in a good home. That doesn't change the fact that I will never support Partners as a pet store...

NO REPUTABLE BREEDER WOULD EVER SELL TO A PET STORE!

Reputable breeders do not want their puppies stuffed into cages and expoited to gain money for any business. A reputable breeder breeds for the dog, not only the money.

A breeder who sells to a pet store has no idea where the puppies or kittens are going to, therefore THAT MAKES THEM IRRESPONSIBLE!

The fact that Partners is selling dogs just shows that they don't care at all about the thousands of dogs that are dying in shelters every year, if they did, they would recommend adoption or house some shelter pups in their facility instead of supporting breeding.

People who buy dogs from breeders or pet shops should think twice before doing so, each purchased pet supports the irresponsibility of these breeders. Adopt a shelter pet instead, many shelter pets are purebred dogs or puppies that were dumped, neglected or abandoned, many by breeders because they are not perfect looking (bad markings) or they are a little too short to show or breed or they got a little too old before they sold them (most breeders don't sell puppies once they hit 6 months.

The puppies at Partners are much too young to be away from their mothers. Puppies should stay with their family as long as possible to learn basic social behavior and benefit from breastfeeding with mom... Obviously Partners does not care about this either... nor does Partners Spay and Neuter the pets before they sell them.

Think about someone other than yourself Partners and stop being so greedy!!!

I've never been one for doing reviews, but after reading a few of them about Partners Pets, I thought I should give my opinion. I've been shopping at Partners for the past 8 years. I bought two puppies, a snake, many fish, and a prarie dog. I absolutely LOVE all my animals that I bought there. My dogs are my children. Their puppies are NOT from puppy mills. I have the papers on both of my dogs, and I"ve even called them about questions regarding the background of my dogs. I'm a stickler and both breeders proved that you CAN buy from a pet store without buying puppy mill dogs. Anyone who says Partners has sick animals or dirty cages is WRONG!!!! I've been there numerous times and all the animals are healthy and the cages are clean. It's a shame that people villify a pet store that sells puppies because of stores like Petland. See for yourself. Partners is a pet store that I'm proud to shop in!!!

Well said, Patricia C! I think we can see that those other reviews were written back in 2005, before they started selling puppies. Things are totally different now. They have sold out and become Merchants of Greed, perpetuating the Cruelty behind the Cuteness. There are hundreds of fabulous dogs waiting for a home at the Wiliamson County shelter and the city of Georgetown shelter -- please people, give those animals a chance a life !!

No reputable breeder sells puppies through a pet store. PERIOD. Reputable breeders care where their animals go - they ask lots of questions of potential purchasers, maybe even do a home check, and will take their dogs back if a congenital defect turns up or other problems occur. That ain't what's going on here folks. Marcy D says "As far as the Puppy mill thing. I'm sure if that were the case, he would be shut down by now." Really? Have you never heard of Petland, Marcy D - you know, the huge international pet store chain that continues to sell thousands and thousands of puppy mill puppies every year while the puppies' parents live their short painful lives in filth and squalor back at the mills and the puppy broker Hunte Corp. and Petland rake in literally millions of dollars? People - please educate yourselves. Google "how to buy a puppy" please I beg you. Better yet, go to your local shelter and save a dog from death. Or google "[your favorite breed] rescue, Texas" if you think you just HAVE to have a particular breed. As long as people buy puppies from pet stores, puppy mills will continue to exist. No more pet store puppies bought, no more mills. Simple as that. (note - I put 1 star on this only because I was afraid if I left it blank it would automatically revert to 4 stars)

We got our Cairn Terrier from Partners Pet Shop about 2 months ago...she's the best puppy ever! Adam and his staff were wonderful and answered all our questions thoroughly since she was our first dog. I thought all the animals waiting for a new home looked happy and clean. I highly recommend Partners Pet Shop!

User Rating: 5 out of 5 stars by Marcy and Katy 04/22/2009 We have done alot of business with Partners thru the years. We have always found what we needed and found it in great shape, including rabbits, fish, hamsters and a chinchilla just recently (4-09). I have a nine year old daughter and she has been going to this store since she was four. The owner and all the workers there have always been very kind to her and myself. Now there have been times they don't want the puppies held if they have been held too much that day or if they know there really is no way the parent is going to buy it. This only makes it harder on the child if the pet store allows children to hold the animals. So I applaud the owner for not letting the animals being held at times as I have had to drag my daughter out of stores crying when she did get to hold things and I wouldn't then buy them. Sometimes it is okay to say no and alot of times it's better for the child.I can also say I have never seen these animals being abused or neglected nor are their surroundings and habitats unsuitable or inhumane. The owner is a very nice man and has been doing this for years and being around animals everyday is not something someone does just for the $. If he was just interested in the $ there are plenty of other things he could do then clean lizard and dog poop up everyday! No, I have no doubt this man loves these animals and has their best interest at heart. Now, with all that said, he does have a very dry sense of humor and is very witty. You just have to be able to joke back and take alot of his dry demeanor with a grain of salt. He really does value your patronage and he does care for the animals. I am 100% convinced of this, or I wouldn't do business there. As far as the Puppy mill thing. I'm sure if that were the case, he would be shut down by now. How about - He has a good selection...! Why do you people have to be so negative? The cages are no smaller than say Pet smart or Pet co.... They have also taken hamsters, mice, fish and even a bearded dragon from us for consignment or discounts on our next purchase. He would rather you bring them in where he can find good homes for them then let them lose into the wild or give them to some place where they won't be properly cared for.The store does tend to be a little crowded but is much better at the new location. He tries to carry a great variety of all things domestic and exotic pet owners could need. In which case, a little crowded is a good thing. We have frequented Pet smart, Pet-co and Zoo keepers. Though they are all very good, we prefer this store, Partners due to the personable and fun atmosphere. Many Thanks to Adam and his staff for their dedication to animals and this uniquely wonderful store! Some of these people leaving reviews need to get a sense of humor and stop with all the ridicule and perhaps inventory their own lives and habitat.Marcy and Katy

I've been to a lot of pet stores in the Austin area-- some good and some bad. Partners Pet Center is my favorite pet store. They have a huge selection of all kinds of pets. I was impressed by how clean and well taken care of all the pets were. Their fish tanks are always super clean. I bought two puppies, a hedgehog, and a fish tank from them-- and Iove them all. The people that work there are all very friendly and always have been very good to me and my family. I would highly recommend Partners to anyone looking for a pet.

Pros: Selection, Quality, Service, Prices

Cons: Parking (sometimes)

.

The owner is knowledgeable about the animals. The advice the I received from him concerning my turtles was right on the money. Although it is not a big chain the prices are excellent. I recommend it highly.

If you think poor customer service, bad attitudes, or out right ignoring customers is terrific, then this place is for you!!!!Never have I had such poor customer service, not even a hello when you walk in nor a SMILE, when you check out. A thank you? Forget about it!!! Not going to happen!!They're pets are close to dead when you buy them, I don't know how they keep stock!! Don't even think to take an animal to them for purchase because they'll offer you next to nothing. (We had to get rid of a beloved cockatiel due to allergies) Go to Craig's list and find someone that will love your pet as much as you!

Myself like other Round Rock residents use to buy our fish and aquarium supplies from Partners but have stopped since they started selling puppies crammed in small cages by IRRESPONSIBLE breeders who breed POOR QUALITY registered dogs for almost nothing to pet stores like Partners . Not to mention the quality of fish has gone down hill now that they make most of their money selling over priced poorly bred puppies. When asked whom the breeder was of the NUMEROUS poor quality breeds crammed in a small wire cage I was told it was a very responsible breeder they know from Corpus Christi but I was not given a name for obvious reasons! Hello, no REPUTABLE breeder would every sell to a pet store and they only specialize in ONE BREED that is why Petco and Petsmart dont sell puppies. The puppies were lethargic and had feces smeared all over their butts and the smell was awful on SEVERAL visits. Didnt keep ignorant people from purchasing them though!During one visit there was a large dead rat in one of the cages that had the saw dust covered in blood with other rats EATING it! I will no longer shop at Partners with my chidren and will drive into Austin to purchase quality fish and supplies.

I got 2 of the most precious puppies from Partners and have found Adam and the staff there to be just incredible! In a world where above board, ethical business people are sometimes hard to find - I am thankful to have had the opportunity to work with Partners - they exemplify those characteristics!
I would absolutely recommend them to anyone who appreciates good, honest people who care about animals and their customers!!

I love this pet store! They have everything under the sun, puppies, birds, fish, mice, rats, hamsters, bunnies, reptiles, hedgehogs.... just about anything you can imagine! The staff is very friendly and helpful and while parking can be a pain in their tiny parking lot, the store is in a very convenient location in Round Rock. My kids love going there to look at all the animals and pet the puppies.

PROS: friendly staff, lots of different animals
CONS: tiny parking lot

This pet shop is located close to Dell and plenty of other stores so it is quite convenient to shop here. The parking lot is small so sometimes it's hard to find a parking spot. There are all kinds of animals to look at which is my kids favorite thing to do. They've got all the equipment and accessories that you can possibly want and the prices aren't much different than the bigger chain stores. Customer service is nice and the store is kept clean.

PROS: Clean and friendly environment
CONS: Parking

I love shopping at Partners. The selection of tropical fish is great and you know they're healthy by looking at them. They have a large assortment of products for all types of animals including reptiles and they're prices are great! Much friendlier setting than getting lost in Petsmart! The staff knows exactly what they're talking about when it comes to pets.

PROS: Lower Prices, Don't get lost in the store!
CONS: Where's the puppies!!!???

Partners Pet Center is a welcome change from the corporate cookie-cutter pet stores. This is an old fashioned pet shop that has a little of everything, from reptiles to puppies and from rodents to aquaria with everything you need to properly care for these animals. We are avid marine hobbyists, and this is one of the few pet shops in the area that consistently has quality saltwater fish and supplies. We are continually impressed by the knowledge of the staff, and they have given us advice that has prevented us from making serious blunders in the care of our aquariums.

They sell ready-made saltwater by the gallon, and the quality of this water is impeccable. Their prices are more than reasonable on all pet foods and supplies, often being far cheaper than the chain stores. They stock hard-to-find items and supplies as well as the more typical stock found in the pet trade. Not only is this a respectable shop, but it is also a nice place to browse on a leisurely afternoon.
