Delicious food and so much from which to choose. We love the curry beef--------the fresh lemongrass! You just want to drink the sauce. YUM. Good service, open late.

Best Vietnamese cuisine in Houston. Locally owned for over thirty years. Large restaurant has wonderful upscale Asian vibe. Wonderful place to partake in Vietnamese/Asian culture. Family friendly!!

You've got to try the lettuce wraps as an appetizer. Very good along with the rest of the menu. Good place to try difference things. Very attentive wait staff.

★☆☆☆☆

Terrible pseudo- Chinese/Vietnamese food. Salt and pepper squid consisted of only tail bits coated in heavy batter, i.e mostly batter. Food quality on par with local Chinese take-out. Vietnamese food is a joke - lacking in fresh herbs and flavor, and portion size tiny for the exhorbitant price charged. In short, avoid at all cost as this is a very poor value for quality restaurant with sub-par food.

We have been to this place many times and it seems to have gradually gone down hill on the taste of the food. We used to go to the one on Westheimer a few years back as well. However, I cannot stomach to go back after what I saw the last time! We were sitting at a table where we had a view o the kitchen as the staff went in & out and actually saw a manager drop an eggroll on THE GROUND and pick it up & put it back on the plate!!!! Now, I've worked in restaurants & this kind of thing probably happens more than we know but I have never done this nor have I witnessed this before! DISGUSTING! Will never return.

Pros: Good appetizers

Cons: Expensive, entrees not fresh..

This is one of those places where you know you can't go wrong, so it's a great place to take friends who drive in from the suburbs that might be put off by going to one of the many "mom and pop" Vietnamese joints that are a little "rough around the edges". The atmosphere is great, the building is very nice, extensive menu, and the food and service have always been great every time I've been. Take your grandparents here with no fear of scaring them. ;)

Pros: Fancy for a Vietnamese eatin' place.

Cons: None, really!

i doubt that there are many people here for any substantial time who have not eaten at this place. and i've never heard anything negative about the service, quality or menu selection at this location. Vietnamese cuisine, they started out years ago in a small lease space in an old strip center nearby. I've been there many, many times over the years and the food and service are consistantly good. They also have a bar and I'm told it attracts late - night Francophiles. The food is consistantly served up fresh during dinner. Prices are reasonable and portions are generous. Good lunchtime choices are the soup and noodle dishes.

Pros: bar, fresh food, good service, adaquate parking, value

Cons: can get crowded

I have been hearing great things about Kim Son for years so I figured I'd try it. We started with the Vietnamese egg rolls, which weren't my thing. As mainly a vegetarian, I could not catch onto the pork inside. We got the General Tso Chicken, which is what we get pretty much everywhere; impeccable. Great crispy outside, very good sauce flavor. The fried rice was the same as any other non-Hibachi restaurant. I really enjoyed the white chocolate shell passion fruit dessert, it was amazing. The prices were also great, great parking too!

Pros: Great food, prices, service, parking, nice staff.

Cons: Vietnamese egg rolls

I haven't been here since last year, wanted to see if their food and services are improving. We end up going to Kim Son in Bellaire and left with a big disappointment. The buffet was horrible, food was cold, left over from previous days, less items on the buffet, the raw meet for Lau (hotpot soup) are stink to rottenn. This place is filthy and no wonder not many people eat here. Worst of all, the waiters are GREEDY, they charged extra money on my credit card for more TIPS and they end up getting 33% of tips...ridiculious! I would not recommend anyone go here.

Pros: big place

Cons: food, services, dishonest.

I used to eat her probably 5 times a week with my friends until they discontinued our favourite combo. That's been a couple years ago. So, since then, I eat here maybe 4 or 5 times a year. Regardless of what I've ever ordered here, though, the food is unbeatable! There's a wonderful waitress who works over in the former smoking section, who always used to take care of us (in the 5.95 combo days), who, after not seeing her in easily 1.5 years, came up to me the other day, recognized me, called me by name, and asked about some things from my life. It's always nice to have a server like that. If they still had the combo I loved, I can guarantee you I'd be there just as often as before. But, until they do, what I do order is still wonderful. My favourites are their pho, spring rolls, egg rolls, orange chicken (BEST you'll ever have), of course, the general tso's, combo fried rice, and their hot tea is quite good. Service, aside from the lady who used to wait on me and still works there, can be very hit-or-miss. The main problem is condescention... if you can get past that, good for you, coz the food is absolutely worth it! Prices can be a little high, but MAN is it some GREAT food!

Pros: Incredible food, wonderful loyal server.

Cons: The occasional condescending service.

Dropped in just prior to an Astro's game for a snack, and we were amazed at the variety on the menu. Ended up with the lettuce wrap and the beef fajitas looked too interesting to pass up. The waiter was very helpful, attentive and courteous. The resturant was clean and very comfortable. The food arrived in less than 5 minutes, and both dishes were presented very well and tasted great. We certainly will be going back as soon as we get back into Houston.

Pros: Variety of food and outstanding service

Cons: None

My girlfriend and I absolutely love this place. I had only minimal experience with Vietnamese food before moving to Houston. Now there's one more great reason to eat out in Houston: Kim Son!

Pros: Fresh ingredients, great food, healthy options

Cons: Pricey

★★★★★

Wow! I looked at the other reviews and wonder if we went to the same restaurant. My experience was excellent, good service, great food, large portions, good ambience, clean restroom. The black pepper soft shell crab and deluxe fried rice were delicious. Can't remember what my husband had but he loved it also. I agree it gets too loud but I will deal with it to get really good food from time to time. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive to everyone. I checked out the other diners and everyone seemed quite enthusiastic about their food so it must have all been very good.

I will go again and hope they are consistent in providing an above average experience.

Pros: Almost everything

Cons: loud

I had an anniversary party here for 180 people. The service was TERRIBLE. The manager was RUDE. The air conditioner was not working. The bathroom was FILTHY. I will NEVER do business with this establishment again.

★★★☆☆

Think twice if you're on your first date because it gets pretty loud in that restaurant. It's like eating in a cafeteria. All the tables are so close together.

I've been eating at this location for years and never had a complaint. We always had prompt, friendly service and the food is great, especially the dumplings, fried rice and orange chicken. Good place to eat before a play, musical or ball game. Plus, good price for the amount of food you get.

★★★★☆

The Kim Son on Jefferson is probably the best one in Houston. Food doesn't take too long to be served, service is good, and seating doesn't take long either. The other locations are sub-par. I think that this restraunt is underestimated. Many people say that its too "Americanized" but I think its just right. If you go to the average vietnamese restraunt, the food is mediocre and so is the service. Here however, the food is quite delicious, nicely and beautifully prepared, and tastes fresh. You just have to know which dishes are good.

Pros: great lighting, beautiful interior, good service

Cons: bad parking on wknds

★★★★★

I'm not crazy about the one downtown, but the Kim Son on Westheimer rules. Lightening fast service, good food, and cheap. They get you in and out fast. The Pho Ga, spring rolls, and dumplings are great. I eat there a lot. It is perfect for people on the fly during lunch. It's easy to get hooked!

★☆☆☆☆

The food here is not authentic Asian food. And most of the dishes taste awful (although the beef wrap appetizer was pretty good). Too expensive as well. If you like the westernized asian food, I recommend P.F. Changs instead. How this chains keeps getting good ratings is beyond me.

Pros: Nice atmosphere

Cons: Food not very good, Expensive
