What a bunch of uneducated unexperienced crooks!

by A B.

In my multiple experiences with this clinic, i can attest to the fact that these doctors, especially the owner of the practice, have no idea what they are doing outside of vaccines and preventatives. I've watched them over and over (as a licensed vet. tech and a former employee) waste people's money hand over fist. Being so close to austin with all of the veterinary specialists who are board certified and MUCH more capable of diagnosing and treating serious diseases. Instead of utilizing these facilities....or at least presenting it as an option....i watched the owner of this clinic "attempt" to treat and diagnose many difficult cases, costing the owners thousands of dollars, only to have them give up because their pet showed NO, absolutely NO, signs of improvement, so the clinic's advise was to euthanize rather than see a specialist. Not that it would matter, because by the time the clinic owner actually admits he has NO idea what's going on with the patient, the owner has exhausted their every financial resource and could no longer afford to see a competent doctor. This clinic needs to adapt to the year 2009, and quit attempting to treat their patients with the medical limitations they had when they were in school in the 1970's. And the doctor's excuse? "Well, i've been in business for over 30 years, so i must be doing something right"......WRONG! Just because you drive your car on the wrong side of the road every day and don't get into an accident.....doesn't mean you did right....it means you are lucky! I wouldn't reccommend any semi-criticial patient be seen here.

8/14/2009 First Time Visit

by Tammy M.

8/14/2009
Please check the BBB on this company you will find it interesting what you find. This was the first time appointment
When we first got there the ladies didn't even acknowledge my baby or even any other dog that came in. It was not a friendly enviroment. We sat in the waiting room 40 minutes before we were brought back. My husband had to go out there and tell the front ladies something bc it was very annoying to have to wait so long. They had us waiting over an hour until the vet came in.We could hear other dogs crying which my son brought to my attention. The girl that comes in the back nor the doctor bothered to let my dog sniff them they just automatically go for his head which makes my dog jump because he doesn't know these people. Bad experience then they want to comment that my dog is standoffish. Of course anyone who has a dog knows you need to let them sniff you.Not go straight for there head. I do not recommend this place. Bandfield in Petsmart had more compassion than this place. They were compassionate to take my $$$ and that is about it. This was our first visit and it will be our last..

Great Assistant, long visit

by Anonymous

The assistant was very loving and attentive.I am very much against giving shots over and over, All Clinics want to give these pets shots, and this clinic is no exception. I did not like the way the Dr kept say "Well we usually do....and at this clinic we usually ..." Again, I do not like infecting my dog with virus unnecessarily and continuously....On this particular visit, we brought our three dogs into the clinic, one for nail clip, one for parvo only shot ( they wanted to give all these other shots, no!) and one for a worming for visible tape worms ( a new 8 week old puppy.) I left after almost three hours, (1/2 of my day off) over $100.00 cost and did get the nails cut, parvo shot and after two tests for worms (with negative results) and an urge to get other tests done, received the warming because of the visible sight of tape worms. ouch!!! The vet was persistent about giving the second set of shots, when I had just got the puppy less than two weeks ago and the 1st vet had given the puppy her first set of shots the day I picked her up. I resisted and waited two more weeks.I am bringing my puppy in on this date for the second set of puppy shots. The clinic does a complimentary de-warming and de-fleaing on the first visit. This is nice. Dr. U has always been our vet here in the Cedar Park Area, and my husband usually brings in our pets. We really like him and his knowledge concerning our pets. We have been soliciting this clinic for about 12 years and will continue to do so...Dr U was not our Dr during this visit.

Very Dedicated and Compassionate Staff

by Bryan M.

We have taken our family pets to BHC Animal Hospital since we moved to the Austin area 9 years ago. Last winter, our 12-year-old German Shepherd, Brandy, was found to have bleeding tumors from cancer. Dr. U worked 7 days a week at all kinds of crazy hours to treat Brandy. He had cancer specialist come in and did absolutely everything possible to provide treatment. When it became clear that Brandy was not going to make it, he gave me the straight story and then sent me home with Brandy so that my family and I could make the tough decision to have her put to sleep. When we came in for the end with Brandy, the entire staff was very compassionate. We waited 4 months before getting another pet. When we got our new puppies in April, the 1st place we took them was to BHC Animal Hospital. We will be customers for life.

They've been godsends for us

by Janet C.

I've never had anything but wonderful experiences at BHCAH. Dr. U has made house calls for me, including injecting one scaredy-cat while she cowered under the sofa. He came to my house three time to euthanize sick and elderly cats, to save them the trauma of being taken to his office.

Dr. U and his staff worked their hearts out to save my leukemia positive cat and hugged me and cried with me when he died after a 2 year remission.

Although the vet's office can be pretty hectic, they know my name and are always friendly. The facility is always clean and the waiting area is large enough I can keep my cats away from noisy dogs.

Problem after problem

by K G. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,111

This is a nice facility, BUT they have not impressed us with the medical care for our animals. First off, we adopted a Cocker Spaniel from the Humane Society who has an undiagnosed eye problem. There is a mass on his eye, so they took a tissue sample of it to get is analyzed in College Station. Well, the report came back with nothing according to one Vet there. I decided I wanted a copy of that report and guess what it read -- the tissue sample was not done correctly so it couldn't be tested! They should have told us that, our poor dog has a terrible looking eye because of this and they didn't even admit to an error. They let us think that there was nothing wrong!

The next thing is that even though we submitted all his paperwork about his shot history, they treated us like we forged his information. They said that they needed to call and verify that we actually got the shots that we said we did, because we could be using our other dogs paperwork as his. We care way to much about our 3 Cocker Spaniels to ever think about doing this.

This is also one of the biggest nickle and dime clinics I have been to. We have talked to several other pet owners and they all say the same thing. You won't walk out without paying for some test, medication or special food. They make you feel like a subpar pet owner unless you buy buy buy.

We switched to another vet clinic and they are wonderful. We had an issue with our belated cat, that BlockHouse Creek animal clinic could never diagnose but charged us over and over without any results. Well, the first visit to the new clinic -- we had our answer! Diabetes.

I am sure that some people love this clinic, but we have had a lot more negative things happen than what is stated above and found better fit elsewhere.
