Zuni on the Riverwalk has the WORST service I have ever experienced. EVER! 45 minutes after ordering, waiter stops at the table and says, 'oh, btw, we aren't serving brunch anymore'. They were when we ordered!!! 2 kids left restaurant with no food. Manager could care less!
We read the reviews, and drove 45 miles to go to Paesanos.
The bread, appetizers and salad we were served at the outset were wonderful. It went downhill from there.
The Veal Osso Buco was drowning in a harsh tomato brew;
the Veal Scallopini a la Francesca was a puzzling thing:
Thin veal layer pounded to kingdom come.
Thick, undercooked egg and flour coating reminiscent
of an awful Chile relleno (can there be an awful chile
relleno? They managed it.). "Spumoni" ice cream that
wasn't.
We'll go back for bread at their nearby bakery.
Paesano's has two locations in San Antonio. This is an absolutely awesome place. The food is wonderful; I especially like the Gamberi Paesano (shrimp). Their pastas are to die for. The staff is very friendly and accommodating.
Don't pass this restaurant up if you are in town.
After eating at Paesanos in their first location in the dank Mediterranean dining rooms, this open space of concrete, wood, and sunlight is a joy. The food is fresh, trendy, good. I have no problem paying the prices which are not cheap. In this place, you get what you pay for. The service is excellent and the Shrimp Paesano is simply to die for. You will die too (of heart failure) if you eat this as many times as your palate demeands.
