Great steaks, and good wine. That is enought for me to give Sullivans a 5-star rating! Also good service.

This place was waaaayyyy overpriced! Sullivan's has a beautiful dining area and I was very excited initially...once the poor service started, it all went downhill from there. My steak was burned to a crisp. I asked for medium and it was super well. Their "Kristy's" attempt at a salad failed. Don't charge me $8 for a baked potatoe that isn't even done! Parking was rediculous! Overall I did not have a good experience!

Our server was prompt and friendly and the decor lovely, however the seasoning on both my and my husband's steaks were quite salty. The filling to my steak, while good, wasn't great and there wasn't nearly as much as I'd expected. For dessert, my husband's key lime pie was fabulous but my cheesecake was merely OK and I had to ask for additional topping for it since what came with it was merely a drizzle around the edge of the plate.

Overall, the meal was OK, but certainly not worth the $100+ we paid for it. Next time we'd go back to Fleming's for the price point.

This was my second time eating here. The first time was not memorable. The decor and service was very good but the food was lacking for the price. The calamari was a little soggy (oil not hot enough). The oysters were good but its hard to mess up oysters on the half shell. One of our party ordered the lobster steak special for a mere $65 the lobster was overcooked. I got the fillet with fries and a side sauce, I promptly sent it back because it was cold and so were the fries. I thought they would have just heated it on the grill but I had to wait for a new one. When it arrived everyone at the table had finished eating they fillet had been cooked on such a high heat it was charred on the outside which is not good when you order rare! I also did not get my sauce, but I had given up. The bill with wine was over $400 I wont be going back. Lamberts is still my favourite place for a steak.

We did our research for a good steakhouse. This place tried and has great potential but failed during our visit. The service was ok - the waitress somewhat informative, but overall not so hot, had bad timing with the servers and got a few wrong orders. There were 5 of us and every one of our meals arrived only warm - NOTHING was served hot which really really was a bummer. We had to send a few things back and one of our steaks was totally overcooked. Also, all of the sides are served family style and we were advised on ordering way too much, which was a bummer because it was total waste of money and we left a ton of food untouched. The decor was nice and the atmosphere was good - but we all left with a chip on our shoulder than we spent just under $100 per person and not one person was excited about their meal once it showed up.

From the moment you walk into Sullivan's, you just KNOW that you are in for a unique experience. The atmosphere is perfect for any dinner date or special occasion. It is an equally perfect place for happy hour with co-workers. The food is the best! I've never had a bad meal there. The wait staff there are some of the best in the city. Don't have anything bad to say about them. Go check them out!

If you are into waiting three hours (NOT AN EXAGGERATION ON VALENTINES) for a cold steak that was burned on the outside then i recommend eating at this place.

My company hosted a dinner at Sullivan's in one of their private rooms & it was fantastic. The room was beautiful, the steaks/seafood were great & the service was top notch. If you are in need of a private for a function...Sullivan's is the place!

I picked this place for my birthday dinner which turned out to be a huge mistake. I made the reservations for 9pm and we were seated at 945. Food came promptly, but two of the side dishes were forgotten altogether. A friend of mine ordered a 12 oz steak and recieved a 9 oz. Five minutes after he sent it back, what I believe to be the exact same steak was returned to him in a different position on his place (not to mention overcooked). The steak I ordered was good, but not exceptional for 40.00. I would have been much more satisfied going to the Belmont nearby which has totally decent steaks at nearly half the cost.

Best restaurant in Austin -Hands Down!!! In town on business and looking for a "man's steakhouse", the Hilton recommended Sullivan's. What an experience!!!! We were greeted at the door by a swarm of beautiful women who informed us of the wait and directed us to the bar. It was a Thursday night or what is obviously a big ladies night ($ 5 martinis) for the bar at Sullivan's. We walked into a bar packed with people, live jazz trio, and gorgeous women. Our bartender Lisa was quick to greet us with a smile and handshake then continued to introduce my collegues to the rest of the bar staff making us feel right at home. A few martinis later we proceeded to the dining room. What a great meal!!! The atmosphere was perfect, not your typical stuffy steakhouse. Our server Crissy had our night taken care of before we even sat down. All her suggestions were perfect, from the seafood sampler, and all jumbo lump baked crabcakes to the porterhouse smothered in gorgonzola garlic butter, she accompanied our steaks with a tower of onion rings and a lip smakin' sweet potato casserole!!! If you need to entertain, this is the spot. An experience not to be forgotten!!!!!!

Pros: Steak, Service, $5 martinis on Thursday and Sunday

Cons: Be prepared for a small wait if you don't have a reservation

I have not been to Sullivan's in a couple of years. I have to admit, the last time I was there it was good, this time it was great. The atmosphere has not changed, still packed. We did have to wait for our reservation because they were busy but my wife and I hung out in the bar for a bit. The steak I had was awesome, my wife's sea bass beats any I have had in a while. Our server was so cool, did not rush us, did not try to over-sell me or my wife on anything. Great service! I love going to a nice restaurant and feeling great about how much I spent. Not feeling ripped off by an overly pushy waitperson trying to gouge you for a big tab and big tip. Thank you Sullivan's you made my night!! We'll be back!

I recently visited Sullivan's Steakhouse for the first time in quite a while and was very impressed! My husband and I used to frequent Sullivan's but have spent more time checking out new restaurants in Austin. Going back to Sullivan's was a breath of fresh air! From the moment we stepped through the door we were promptly welcomed by the friendly hostesses. We went into the bar for a martini before being sat and greeted with a smile from one of the pleasant bartenders who told us about the Thursday night features in the bar. Apparently every Thursday Sullivan's offers $5.00 Specialty martinis (Try the 'knockout' if you like pineapples) and also $5.00 bar food all night in the bar! Before being sat the bartender also offered me a vanilla flavored cigar complimentary as part of the Thursday feature! What a great start to the night! Once we were sat our server approached the table with a smile and professional attitude. He recommeded the Crabcake which we had enjoyed before but were even more impressed by the presentation this time around! Both of our steaks were cooked perfectly and filled with flavor! I recommend trying the 'oscar style' with your steak (this is where they put asparagus, crab meat and bearnaise sauce on your steak) I did as a recommendation from my server and was glad I did! During our meal two seperate managers approached our table to wish us a happy anniversary and thank us for coming to spend it at Sullivan's! We were very impressed that everyone seemed to know that we were celebrating! When we were finished, three servers came over to clear our table at one time which really impressed both of us! We felt like the most important people in the restaurant! Finally we had a chocolate souflee for dessert to celebrate our anniversary and our server brought out a sparkler in addition! From start to finish this experience was one of the most memorable occasions we have shared out for dinner. Thank you Sullivan's we will be back soon!

Pros: service, great steaks, knockout martinis, private dining, Ringside

Cons: parking anywhere downtown can be tough, city hall is close and $5 otherwise valet

My wife and I went to Sullivans for our annivesary. The service was very good but the dining experience was horrible. We ordered an appetizer (cajun crabcake) and when they served it to us it was cold. My main course was the Porterhouse steak well done with a side of crab fried rice. The crab fried rice was overcooked and sticky. I had to send my steak back twice because it was not well done. The 1st time, it was medium well and the final time it was weell but tje outside was charcoal burnt!! At this time, my dining experience and appetite was ruined! The best part of my meal was the wedge salad. I'm sure it was just one of those nights wherte everything lined up wrong but why did it have to happen to me?

Last night was my first time dining at Sullivans. I've lived in Austin for about 3 1/2 years now and have been to just about all of the "up-scale" restaurants here. I'm a culinary graduate from Texas Culinary Academy and have worked in some really nice places here in Austin. I've heard lots of good things about Sullivans, but after my experience last night I'm not sure that I would return. I sat at the bar with a friend of mine and we ordered the "Cajun Crab Cake". Upon receiving the dish, I immediately started to pick apart the plate as I always tend to do since I'm a chef myself. I tasted the sauces first by themselves and they were horrible. The red sauce was a roasted red pepper coulis and was very, very bland. The yellow sauce was what I think was a yellow pepper and mango coulis, also very bland. The crab cake wasn't much to brag about either. It looked as though it was a crab cake that was slightly seared and then sprinkled with cajun seasoning. The flavor of the cake itself was ok, but nothing to write home about. I then ordered the 20oz. bone-in Kansas City Strip and it was truly a dissapointment. No flavor at all, and the meat was tough. Another thing that bothered me was how poorly presentation was done. Both plates had seasoning and what looked like dried parsley all over the rims of the plates. Not very pleasing to the eye. Service was just ok, but also nothing to compliment on. Overall, I was highly dissapointed in my first experience at Sullivans after all the hype I had heard. I'll more than likely give them one more shot, but it will take alot of impressing to get me to come back a third time.

My husband and I went to Sullivan's after our impromtu wedding with high expectations. We had an amazing dining experience. The food was outstanding, the timing was perfect, the restaurant was beautiful, and our server, Joelle, was above reproach. The food was a bit expensive, but they have specials avaiable certain nights, and we went for the prime rib. It was amazing, and extremely well priced. Also, we just moved from Boston, and the seafood here (no offense) doesn't compare. We had a couple seafood appetizers, and there was not a reason to complain. At the end, our server communicated why we were there, and they comp'd our entire bill, minus the cigar for my husband.
I work as a waitress, and being extremely critical of restaurants is almost second nature now. I dont have a single compalint. I highly recommend this restaurant. And if you go, ask for Joelle, she was amazing.

My wife and I have come here for special occasions for years, it has always been a staple of where we love to dine, with that being said, it will not be a place we will return. From the moment we drove up to the valet attendant, we were treated rudely, they did not get the door for my wife, they did not even aknowledge that we were there, instead they continued to chat with one another and took about 5 minutes before we were even glanced at, they must be new because the old valet attendants always were so attentive and seemed as if they cared, this was the first change we noticed, then when we dined our server seemed to rush our meal along, appetizers came with our entrees, everything just seems to have changed so much. We used to love this place!!! Please someone explain what happened to our favorite steakhouse!

I went to Sullivans last night to celebrate a relative's birthday. It had been about a year since I last dined at Sullivans. From the get-go, I knew something was amiss. The top-shelf cocktails ordered table-side were weak. At the server's recommendation, we decided to get the seafood sampler (~$40). Weak. For a party of four, we got 3 shrimp, 2 crab claws, 5 very small oysters and some paltry pulled crab. Sadly, the highlight of the meal was the iceberg wedge. Based on previous visits to Sullivans, I have always considered it one of the best steakhouses in Austin; however, after last night, that is no more. Perhaps they are under new management or in transition....whatever the case, they've lost their luster.

My colleagues and I had a very enjoyable dinner at Sullivans. Here is a summary of our experience and food:
Food / Drink: Overall - wonderful. Would have no hesitation ordering any item again during a future visit.
- Scotch / Wine: very good selection. Impressive wine list.
- Appetizers: Crab cake (very good); Seared Ahi tuna (very good)
- Sides: Creamed spinach (delicious); Green beans (very good); Asparagus (very good)
- Steaks: Filet mignon (cooked perfectly; the best I've had anywhere in recent memory)
- Deserts: None (too full)

- Decor / ambiance: enjoyable. Not too noisy, but not a library either.
- Service: Very attentive and pleasant. Didn't feel neglected. Timeliness of food delivery was appropriate and consistent.
- Price: Perhaps a little pricey, but we felt the food quality and experience was worth the price.

We agreed we would definitely eat here again. Excellent evening. No complaints.

Nice place but the food leaves a little to be desired. My steak tasted like liver, my onion rings and potatoes were way too salty, and my chocolae souflee was the worst I have ever had.

The only good thing about this my meal was the martini!

I do have to say that the service as pretty good.

My wife and I went to Sullivan's for Valentines day, and we it was a disappointing experience. We arrived 5 minutes before our 8pm reservation, and were told there was a 20-30 mintue wait. We couldn't find a seat, because the waiting area and bar was packed with people who had reservations just like us. We did sit down until 9:10pm.

We had to sit in the Jazz club on the side and they had live entertainment. It was so loud we couldn't have a conversation. During the break, they turned up recorded music so loud we still couldn't hear each other.
The food was good, but they had already run out of bread.

Overall, a disappointing experience. We spent $175 for an ok meal, but had to wait an hour with a reservation to be seated at a terrible table, and didn't get any bread. I expected more.

I recently went to Sullivan's for the first time. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. I ordered filet mignon with au gratin potatoes. My steak was tender, succulent, perfectly cooked and seasoned, and just the right temperature. The Au gratin potatoes were ordinary. The wedge salad with blue cheese dressing that is included with the entree was crisp and cold, and the dressing excellent.

The service was highly attentive. Our water and wine glasses were filled often, dirty dishes removed from the table promptly, crumbs cleaned after each course, and the entire staff was professional and courteous.

Complaints: I think side dishes should be included with a $30 steak. They didnt have a boneless rib eye on the menu only bone-in. Downtown parking is difficult.

I would definitely go back to Sullivans; however, it is pricey and most people would probably reserve this restaurant for special occasions.

After reading the other reviews I felt I needed to add mine. The food here is terrific! They have many items that are "off the menu"; just ask your waiter for these items and he/she will gladly explain them. The seared tuna is still my favorite and the steamed artichoke is great. We had our rehearsal dinner in their private dining room and let me tell you that it was better than the wedding! The service was amazing! The waiters were so attentive to my guests and their experience that I ended up tipping more than 30% and request the same waiters everytime I eat there. The food is so consistently good that I recommend it to all of my out of town guests because I know that they will not be disappointed.

I would recommend making reservations but if you do have to wait, believe me, it's worth it!

I have eaten at this restaurant many times. It appears that new management has added considerable value to both the quality of the food and the service. It is definitely Austin's best high quality steak house.

My husband and I went there a year ago (October 2004), for our anniversary. No I didnt make reservations because I foolishly thought being a Tuesday night, it was unnecessary.

We were told the wait was going to be 30 minutes fine. 1 hour later, our waitress in the bar said we have been waiting quite a while and she was going to check to see when we were going to be seated. She came back and told us we had one more group ahead of us. The group was seated. 30 minutes later, a couple entered (they looked very wealthy), had a drink at the bar and were seated shortly after. My husband and I walked out infuriated. This was after watching another gentleman yell at the hostess and walking out 15 minutes prior to us.

I often visit Austin on business and I never miss an opportunity to eat at Sullivan's. I recently took the opportunity to have a meal with a colleague and a client and it was even better than I remember.
This restaurant is located in the heart of downtown Austin. It is never difficult to get parking with convenient curbside valet. The staff was friendly and professional. We had a short wait in the bar area where there was a live jazz band playing and TV's with the college game. The main dining room was perfect to have conversation. I ordered a filet with asparagus. We closed our business meal and headed to the attached club for some live music.
I am also often looking for a nice place to dine while alone and have found Sullivan's lounge to be one of the best places in Austin for a lone sitting.

Having heard many raves about Sullivan's, we were eager to visit, but it must have been an off-night for them, because our entire experience was hugely disappointing.

Though we'd made reservations, we waited nearly 45 minutes to be seated. The service was excruciatingly slow and inattentive; we had a hard time even getting our waiter's attention. As for the food, we started with a delicious seafood arrangement that was fantastic! Unfortunately, all three of us ordered steak for the main course, and all three were sub-par. Each was somewhat overcooked, and the one ordered medium-rare came back medium-well! The waiter was quick to acknowledge the error and replace it, but that kind of gross oversight is unexpected from an establishment so well-known for steak.

Overall, this meal would have been disappointing for half the price at a restaurant with half the reputation.

We went for our anniversary and it was fabulous. Service, food, and overall experience was very pleasing. We had to wait for a short while to be seated but hostess was extreamly attentive and we were sat promptly. The bar area was also very satisfying as well as our drinks and cocktail server. Great place!!! escargot is the best!

Well, on the contrary, the 5 of us had a great time at Sullivan's. Our first time, I have heard rave reviews about their steak, we got the filet and porterhouse and they were excellent, although some portion sizes were uneven (we all ordered same). The side dishes were very good (mashed potatoes), and most of all the District Manager (Rob I believe) provided exceptional service. I did speak to him earlier about reserving a spot as we were deciding btwn them & Trulucks, he wanted our business and delivered! Awesome environment too.

I've been to this place a couple of times. I wasn't pleased at all both times. I was more upset with the staff. The food is just ok. Nothing to brag about. The staff is not that considerate of their customers. If you look like you got money, maybe you look like eye candy to the staff. I've heard rumors of how managment helps "friends" with cutting prices off the bill. This place needs a lot of diversity. If you're not the right color, it's not fun. I've heard comments from their staff about the kind of people dine there. The managers at this place are snotty, rude, and disrespectful. The female managers need a reality check. It's not all about the money.

Went there for a birthday dinner. Made reservations for 7:30pm on a wednesday night. Ended up getting seated at 9:15pm. I was surprised how small the dining area was...no wonder the wait was so long. Our already small table was divided in two by the waiter to accomodate another couple who sat about 3 feet from us. Hardly romantic when you're packed in that tightly. Waiter was rude and unattentive...rolled his eyes when I said we wanted the check instead of dessert. I've heard the one in Houston is a lot better as far as service goes...then again they have more competition. Food was pretty good, but after the anticipation being built up for over 2 hours there was no way it could measure up. I'm much more inclined to sacrifice a bit of food quality at a different restaurant than waste 4 hours of my time again.

My experience was disappointing. The waiter questioned my beer choice and never picked up our salad and appetizer plates. WE had to stack them on the end of our table. They were out of one of the side dishes and when we ordered another one, it was never brought to us. The waiter never apologized--I guess he never realized his oversite. But that's not hard to believe since he was FAR more interested in the table next to us with all their expensive bottles of wine. I'll never go back.

Being from South America and growing up on great and natural beef, I found it extermely disappointing, especially for a "premium" restaurant.

The beef was drenched in Worcestershire sauce or similar, totally overpowering the taste of beef. Throw a 1/4 slice of iceberg lettuce that they call a salad, a charge for any sides and a $70 per person tab... without wine... and you have yourself a wasted evening and unfulfilled expectations.

I wish I hadn't gone there.

I cam in from Minneapolis of which is home to one of the finest Steakhouses in the country. Sullivans was not quite to that reach, however I found our waitstaff and service was up there at the top. When I requested Asparagus of which was not on the menu, they brought some regardless. That is what separates other restaraunts from the others. I will go back there when I am back in Austin.

Every time I go to Sullivan's I make a reservation and end up waiting for an hour (beyond the time of my reservation) for a table. Clearly the management is overbooking to boost bar sales. They are taking advantage of their customers. Also, when you walk into the lobby, there are drunk people (who have been waiting and drinking in the bar on an empty stomach) yelling at the greeting staff. It gives the whole experience a negative tone when you walk in the door. This place is run like the corporate chain that it is.

My husband and I Just spent a great evening there, our waiter, Kyle was the best, the food, although a bit pricey, was worth every penny. We had the seared Ahi Tuna appetizer, which was good, but not being a seafood fan, I was not that impressed, but the Cajun Ribeye, Horseradish mashed potatoes and the 3 Cheese Chipolte Pasta were all to die for, and don't forget the Chocolate Souffle - one of the best in town. If you are looking for a great steak in a fun, upbeat atmosphere, this is the place.

First timer, food okay, overpriced," our server disappeared"? wandering aloof hostesses, get real,
lower the prices a bit, leave out the salt, and sweet pineapple house drink, fill up the wine glasses. this is not New York....and never will be.

Each time I've eaten here I've come away more than slightly displeased. If it isn't absolutely torching a $30 steak, thus ensuring I won't be able to eat with the rest of my party as they prepare another one with no apology given, and no correction of the bill offered to make up for their gaffe.

We've also stopped by the bar for drinks prior to our meal only to be hounded FOUR times to be seated prior to our reservation time so the restaurant could move folks in and out like cattle.

Overpriced. The steak tasted like it was broiled and had no flavor. The shrimp dish was something you could make much better at home. My group and I were not impressed at all with the whole dining experience. The service was the only good thing about the place. What is up with the iceburg lettuce wedge?

I have eaten here mor efrequently than any other steakhouse in Austin, and find it simply the best. Often I go early and enjoy the Jazz and the crowd at Ring Side, Sulivan's bar. The always call at the appointed hour, and seating is prompt, courteous, and lavish. Though the atmosphere can be loud at times that is the charm in this place. The food is excellent, and if you feel up to spending the money, ad the large lobster tail to your steak, it i sthe best thing they cook even ahead of some of the finest steaks I have ever enjoyed. This is a true delight in Steakhouses, let them lavish great attention on you and your meal, then afterwards relax and enjoy coffee or wine while talking to close friends.
