I was happy they weren't completely booked up when I began looking for a place to board my dog 3 weeks prior to July 4th. And the owner (who was at the front desk when I arrived) seemed nice enough.

I had a GREAT experience at the kennel. I found Jessica and Marc to be very helpful. I thought that it was a great place for our dogs to go and I can't imagine anyone not being happy with Just 4 Paws. I think this other lady is crazy and needs to get a life. One of the 2 owners is never there, so there is no way that she met both of them. I have been taking my dogs there since they opened almost 5 years ago and I would reccomend them to anyone. One last thing...It's a kennel. Therefore, it is not going to smell like roses. Anyone else that isn't crazy would understand that.

Like many dog lovers I hate to leave my dogs behind when I go on a vacation they can't acompany me on. I at least leave with a peace of mind that they will get attention and have fun playing with other dogs while I am away. The times I have left my dogs at this facility they always seem to have had a good time.

""This is easily the best experience that I have ever had with a kennel... I only wish I would have found them before going to any other Austin kennels (all of which were terrible). We've been going to them for nearly a year now... and my dog loves it there! She always comes home exhausted from playing so hard with the other dogs. This is the only kennel that my dog has ever not been happy to see us at when we come to pick her up... she tries to go back inside!

As far as the owners go... I have only dealt with Mark. At first meeting, he didn't talk too much, so I couldn't get a feel for him... maybe others are judging on this. Ever since, however, he has gone out of his way to be as helpful to us as possible. He also knows my dog by name and is very good at handling her.

My wife and I had a baby in January... the day before the ice storm started. Mark had no problem leaving our pickup date up in the air... as we didn't know how many days we'd be in the hospital. As it turns out, for several reasons (including the Ice Storm itself) we stayed there for an entire week. Mark was great about it... and offered to wash our dog on whatever turned out to be our last day so that we could come home with the new baby to a clean dog. They even offered to... get this... drop our dog off at our house for us so that we didn't have to get out in the elements with the new baby.

I don't know what a couple other people's issues are with them... this kennel and its owners are wonderful! And even less expensive than any other kennel we tried here in Austin! 5 stars easy.""

The folks at Just Four Paws are exceptional at customer service and pet care. I have always been treated like a friend more than a customer and I know pets get the safest and best pet care in Austin. The owners even helped out a friend from Mississippi that had to board two elderly pets while the owners wife was in Houston have a cancer treatment. The pets were both blind and fragile but treated tenderly and carefully. What a great facility

I have been taking my dog there for years, and she loves it. Every time we drive up, she can't wait to go inside, and she usually sprints to the door before I can get out of the car. It completely takes the guilt out of leaving my dog at the kennel.

I have always had a great experience at Just Four Paws. I've met the owner, Mark numerous times and found him to be friendly and helpful, along with the rest of the staff. My dog has stayed there on several occasions. They are always accomodating to my dog's needs (food, medicine, a little frightened by other dogs). My dog has always been happy and exhausted from all her socializing when I pick her up.

Not a typical kennel. Dogs play with other buddies inside a large room or outside, they only go into a large kennel at night. They do a pretty good job here. Wish they had larger indoor and outdoor space but I feel confident leaving my dog here. They book up so make a reservation!

These are the things I loved about Just4Paws: 1) Prompt and courteous communication 2) Nancy is very full and booked up but she referred us to Ken who works with her and I cannot say enough about Ken! 3) Convenience... they come right to your door 4) Comfort- while Bella immediately started getting the royal treatment, Enzo was comfortable and happy waiting in his home for his turn. No more cages, shaking and crying and waiting all day like Petco or PetSmart! (This alone is worth EVERY SINGLE PENNY!!) 5) AMAZiNG job- Enzo and Bella looked the best they have ever looked! Plus Ken got their cuts exactly right the very first time!!As mentioned above, we had Ken as the groomer and he did a wonderful job. He was super nice and friendly and handled the dogs extremely well. We already have our next appointment booked with him! :)I would give Just 4 Paws a bajillion stars if I could. :)

I have never boarded my dogs, but after moving to Austin I had to in order to get back to Dallas for an event. I hesitated after reading the reviews, but after talking to the staff, felt good about leaving them. My dogs can be very territorial and I was worried about them not getting along with the other dogs. The owner took my dogs with confidence and was very calm. When I picked them up the next day, they were fine. excited to see me, and I had trouble with them...as usual...but the staff didn't even get a leash. I think I may consider asking about training as well.

My dog stayed a couple weeks ago and it was imprerative he had his meds and it was obvious by his behavior (severe thirst, lythergy and throwing up) he was not given his much needed medication on a timely basis. While I think there are some true animal lovers there I think I will need to board him where I can be sure he is given meds on the specific time schedule we requested, after all there is suppossed to be someone there 24 hours a day.

I had a Newfie who is now deceased and currently have a Great Pyrenees that I took to Just Four Paws. I used to take them both on the same day, but wanted to make it easier for the owner, so I alternated days. One day, after grooming, my Newfie came home and drank so much water that she threw it up. It sounded like a tub of water was thrown on the floor. I don't think she'd had any all day.

I had to leave the dogs first thing in the morning and often had to wait until closing time to pick them up. One day I got there and I heard my Newfie barking/crying. It was hot outside and that is where she was. She was my baby and I was very upset.

I asked an employee if she had been outside all day. He told me that they put the dogs out in the sun to dry a little after their baths, and she was outside when I got there. It was as hot as hell and she was used to being in the AC with a doggie door.

Then I stupidly decided to continue to take them there only during cooler months and I asked, each time, that they be put in air conditioned quarters if it got warm. And I asked that they be given plenty of water.

For at least four visits I was asked to bring one of my dogs back later in the week to finish the grooming. When I was working downtown, that was tough. When my dog sitter took him in, she was asked to bring him back the next day to finish him.

The only reason I took my Great Pyrenees in today is that the price is right. Now I feel terrible. This evening, when I picked my buddy up, he was bent over as if he had to poop. He still is. I asked the owner what happened and he said that my dog was fine and when he came back from whatever area they had him in, he was standing like that.

My dog, Bogart, could hardly get into the car. I fear that he has an ACL injury or worse. Although I realize that accidents happen, Bogart was fine when I left him there. Mark, the owner, said that it looked like a hip problem. I like Mark, but I know that something happened between the time I left this morning and when I picked him up. If it wasn't for the fact that I am unemployed, I would have spent the money for a different groomer.

Even after being there from 8:20 am to 5:40 pm, Bogart wasn't finished. Again I was told that I could bring him back later in the week to finish his back side and tail. I will NEVER go back there-----I will be taking my boy to the vet tomorrow and I am afraid to hear what he is going to tell me. I feel guilty for putting him through this.

Bottom line--you get what you pay for.

That's it.

I usually take my dog to a daycare/boarding place she loves in downtown Austin, but it's a 30 min. drive so I decided to try J4P. The first time my dog stayed for dayare she was drooling excessively when I picked her up. I didn't even realize it was drool and assumed her mouth was wet because she drank water just before I came. The person at the front asked me about the drool, but I didn't put two and two together because she never drools like this at home. I took my dog there a second time and again, drooling mess when I picked her up. The drool was so bad, her face was sopping wet with mucus dripping off of it. This time I realized something might be wrong and did some research. I learned that sudden excessive drooling is an indicator of several serious health issues that could result in death. She has never had this problem at 2 other boarding/daycare facilities she's stayed at for weeks at a time. Because their staff didn't recognize this as abnormal behavior, it made me uncomfortable to leave my dog there again.

I am currently working at J4P and I can honestly say that this is truly the best place to bring your dog. This is not your typical kennel where they just put your dog in a cage and leave it. On average the dogs get 6-8 hours of playtime each day with the other dogs. We separate the dogs depending on size and temperament and we always have somebody watching them 24 hours a day. We never put more than one dog in a run unless it is family and the owners know about it prior to boarding.\r
\r
As for the negative comments on here. You should pass your own judgement by coming out and taking a look for yourself. I can assure you that the negative comments were put up here by our competition that feels threatened by a far superior Establishment. As i said come by anytime you like (no need to call or make an appointment) to see the place and I think you should go by the competition as well.\r
\r
As for our competition goes not all are bad. in fact when ever we are booked up and have no more room we recommend other Establishments that we believe care about and take care of the animals the same as us.\r
\r
We have been here for 9 years and most of our business is based on repeat customers and referrals from local Vet's. If we were such a bad place we would have neither.\r

This place has a few problems. Yes it is hard to get answers either via phone, fax, email. They are very understaffed for that size of a kennel. The dogs are looked after people that are not licensed or trained under any type of protocol. There are other kennels in town that do have ample protocol for providing a safe environment for your pets. The dogs do like being there, but the small ones are mixed in with large ones and dogs that have issues are left in their cages for long periods of time. Dogs that aren't fixed don't get to interact either in case you think they do. Mostly they could just use some more staff and a knowledgeable staff. I found the owner to be a bit uncaring and not really in tune with the idea of customer service.

Did not like the owner one bit. Very rude and aloof.\r

Pros: staff

Cons: owners, filth

One bit of advice - make sure to tip one of the employee so they can call you if something goes wrong. Mark (the owner) does not like to bother owners with bad news. He is usually very good with animals, its just that he likes to wait a few days before getting them to the vet when they are sick. he saves money to the owners and most animals won't die from a few days delay. When you throw forty dogs into one room with only one girl watching - anything can happen. Also, make sure to ask the staff if your dog had its own run. In busy season we used to double book two dogs in the same run (without telling the owner).

Pros: Great Staff.

Cons: Dirty smelly cages, No A/C, no supervision

This is easily the best experience that I have ever had with a kennel... I only wish I would have found them before going to any other Austin kennels (all of which were terrible). We've been going to them for nearly a year now... and my dog loves it there! She always comes home exhausted from playing so hard with the other dogs. This is the only kennel that my dog has ever not been happy to see us at when we come to pick her up... she tries to go back inside!\r
\r
As far as the owners go... I have only dealt with Mark. At first meeting, he didn't talk too much, so I couldn't get a feel for him... maybe others are judging on this. Ever since, however, he has gone out of his way to be as helpful to us as possible. He also knows my dog by name and is very good at handling her. \r

I don't know what a couple other people's issues are with them... this kennel and its owners are wonderful! And even less expensive than any other kennel we tried here in Austin! 5 stars easy.

Pros: Owners give great service, dogs absolutely loves it, inexpensive

Cons: Owners are hard to get on the phone often (because they are taking great care of the animals!), Oh no... this kennel smells like a kennel!

I have been taking my dog there for years, and she loves it. Every time we drive up, she can't wait to go inside, and she usually sprints to the door before I can get out of the car. It completely takes the guilt out of leaving my dog at the kennel.

Like many dog lovers I hate to leave my dogs behind when I go on a vacation they can't acompany me on. I at least leave with a peace of mind that they will get attention and have fun playing with other dogs while I am away. The times I have left my dogs at this facility they always seem to have had a good time.

Pros: Large play yards, Lots of attention, Staff spoils dogs

Cons: Far from my home.

My wife and I will be in the Austin area the week prior to Christmas...we were referred to Four Paws to board our two dogs.

I called during business hours on Sunday and left a voice message...not receiving a return phone call by Tuesday, I sent an email...that was not responded to...I figured I'd try sending a fax...sent the fax...no response...today is Wednesday.

Like I said...they must not need the business.

I 100% disagree with with Sammy.

Pros: Great atmoshere, Very nice people, Inexpensive

Completely disgusted and perturbed with this facility. The owners were aloof and cold and their customer service was horrid. Definitely DO NOT recommend. Walked through to see kennels and the smell was almost unbearable.
