Great service, great staff and the coffee's nice too!
I have over 7 cars and have used numerous shops all over town and I have been coming to Ben White North for 2 years now and can tell you with total certainty that this is a FIRST class shop. The managers are honest and if something is in question, will side with the customer's best interest to gain a repeat customer over a quick buck. The mechanics are very knowledgeable and are always willing to explain and even educate me on repairs. If I were a professional mechanic, this is where I would want to work and that says it all.
Amazing how different an experience can be for some. I found that the repair work on my 2003 Honda Accord was done properly (been 2 months with not a single problem) for a lot less than the dealer wanted ($1795 vs $2300). The staff was friendly and my car was delivered back clean and on time. I would definitely recommend this shop and I would use them again.
My wife brought our Dodge pickup and Honda CRV in to get worked on. They charged us over $3000 and kept the vehicles for weeks. Other mechanics later informed us that a part we were charged for was never installed, screws were left loose causing more damage to the vehicle, several examples of substandard workmanship, and substantially over charged. Basically, we were royally screwed. We learned an expensive lesson and will never go back. I recommend you look elsewhere.
The service is performed by professionals who want to make sure you are happy. You can rely on them to do a job well done.
I've been using them for years. They employ competent technicians and have been very honest with their assessments. Also there have been times when fixing one part (disassembly) cuts down the time to fix a second issue; they have reduced the repair time which is a very nice gesture.\r
I first discovered Ben White Auto about a year ago while searching for a reputable auto-shop that I felt like I could trust. A lot of places talk the talk but Ben White Auto walks the walk with quality & customer service.
Again! I have made a few trips to Ben White Auto North. I am greatful for their expertise and efficient work. My aging Mitsubishi disappoints me at times and Ben White is there to pick up the slack. My car is fixed right the first time. I defiinitely recommend Ben White.
I had a wonderful experience at this location. Gary took care of everything from the first phone call to paying the bill. We were going on vacation. He made sure my minivan was ready to go on time.I reccomend them if you live up north.
Best Experience I've had in a Loooong Time with a car shop. These guys are Honest And Fair with their pricing and same day service is impressive. I called the Dealer and was told it would be A Day or So before they could get to me. I called Ben White and was told to come in right away, and was pleased to know I could get it back the same day. Great Service and Great Attitudes.
Wow, what a relief. I am new to Austin and did not know where to take my car for repairs so I did some research.... I am glad I did and even more so, very happy I took it to these guys! I am familiar enough with auto repair not to get ripped off, gladly; this was the least of my concern. I was treated fairly in regards to price. The service and satisfaction is bar none, the best I have received from an auto repair shop. Great job guys!!!
I had a great experience with Ben White Auto. When the power steering pump died on my Corolla, the guys at Ben White promptly diagnosed the problem and outlined what needed to be fixed. They had me back up and running by the end of the day.
When the dealership is taking 2 or 3 days to do normal maintenance, I started looking elsewhere. Ben White Automotive is very convenient and on my 2nd visit, I noticed Mike behind the counter. I have know Mike for over 12 years back when he was at Midas on Guadalupe!\r
He's honest and straight talking. For example, the Caravan's front brake disk had complaints of squeaks so Dodge put a disk with a softer metal. The squeaks went away, but the disk had to be replaced at 30,000 mi, vrs 100,000 mi. Mike suggested putting a disk with harder metal. The repairs are in line with the dealership but with cheaper prices.
With my car long-overdue for maintenance, I researched and decided on Ben White North. The staff at Ben White were friendly, professional and well-ready to answer any questions about the potential repairs needed, the importance of said repairs and the potential consequences of not getting certain maintenance done. The bill was fair and the car is now running like new. Ben White North is a location you can trust with your car.
Ben White Auto is just north of the Pavilion Park and Ride bus stop for Capital Metro; what a convenient place to leave your car, catch the bus, and pick it up at the end of the day!
I called with a dead battery and they came to get me and ordered my battery and got me back to work very fast. They were nice, friendly, fast, and got me back on the road!!
While any A/C repair is costly, they were able to replace it quickly and for a reasonable price, as compared to other repair shops. They even were able to show me what caused the A/C to go out, and gave me options for the type of repair.
I always feel welcome, there's never a wait.
Why I went: Brake light went on; brakes were vibrating. We first took the car into Firestone who normally does a great job and we still use them. We told them the brake fluid was also a little low. They looked at the car and told us that the brakes were fine, fluid was fine, and the light could be a faulty sensor in the master cylinder but they didn't do that kind of work.
We weren't about to just say okay to the permanently ON brake warning light, so we grudgingly took it into Nissan. We've had horrible issues with dealers in the past, mostly that if their computer doesn't say anything's wrong, they won't try to find the problem.- Lazy and overpriced. Nissan said the master cylinder needed replacement and it would cost $600 + $100 diagnostic fee. Um, that seems a little pricey to replace a $100 part?
So I did some research and found Ben White, a little gem that happened to be super close! They said nothing was wrong with the brakes and simply topped off the brake fluid, which got rid of the warning light.
I've taken our cars in twice since, and am happy with their being vigilant about what other issues there are about the cars and the price tag at the end! Plus, I love that friendly guy with the fluffy beard.
I took my car to another mechanic shop in town and my Saturn was kept in their garage all day only to be told at 4 PM, when I called them, to pick it up if I wanted because they were not able to get to it.
I took the weekend to research other garages and also called the BBB on Monday to ask about Ben White Automotive North. Good reviews when I researched them.
I took it in and they were able to look at my car and fixed the problem with no hassles. Gary was very helpful and was able to educate me on the service.
I have told all my friends about them and I am so glad I have found a home for my Saturn.
At this point there are 98 Five Star reviews and 29 with four stars, so instead of piling on by discussing the shop's high level of competence, commitment to customer service, and overall trustworthiness, I will simply share this anecdote:
The last time I had a problem with the electrical system on my truck, I called the North shop to get a quote on a new starter. Instead of simply giving me a price and waiting for me to come in, Gary spent 15 minutes with me on the phone walking me through all the steps I needed to take to self diagnose the problem and try and fix it. He didn't want me to have to pay for a tow truck if I could get the truck running myself. Unfortunately the problem went beyond my ability to find and repair, but the shop fixed my truck quickly and it has run smoothly since.
They don't just care about making money, they honestly want what ever is best for their customers, and I will continue to be one as long as I am in Austin.
These guys saved the day on two occasions for me with my Honda Civic Hatchback. They were super helpful and informative which I really appreciated. I'm not a know-all about car mechanics by any means but really hate when you get talked to like a 'girl' so the fact that everything was explained to me so that I understood was a great help. The first thing that went out on my trusty Honda was my a/c compressor. They fixed that along with my master cylinder. They made sure everything was done the right way (especially since my a/c conked out mid-summer) A few weeks later I needed to get a catalytic converter that literally no one made for my car and that you couldn't get anywhere other than the Honda dealer. They went out of their way to get my business for that too and shopped around for me until they found what they needed and to fix it in the most cost-effective manner. I wasn't keen on the idea of having to go to the dealership. My car has never left me stranded and I never had to do anything to it much through the years so it was just unfortunate timing that all of this happened close together but in stewarding to the longevity of my car it's fortunate that I found Ben White Automotive. Thanks guys!
First off, I am don't have a good working knowledge about car maintenance and stuff. But it was not a problem at all when I dropped by at Ben White as the staff are very helpful. They provide good input on what makes sense and how can save in the long run. \r
Great service overall!!!\r
They are always friendly, prompt, and fair!
I have been to the North location several times now for different car problems. The guys at the location have always been very nice and accomodating. \r
During one of my visits, they even arranged for a car rental to pick me up. I was very thankful as I had to be at work asap.\r
My engine blew on my Nissan Maxima and a friend recommended Ben White Auto to me. They not only helped me find a reaonably priced engine but then gave me a very reasonable price to install the engine. Given the size and complexity of the job they did a great job getting the work done. \r
I always felt informed about everything that was being done as they did an outstanding job explaining things to a person to is not very mechanically inclined. I have already recommended them to family members for any future work to their vehicles.
I looked around at several places to fix a major break malfunction. Ben White Automotive had a very competitive price and the manager ( I think his name was Mike) was straight forward, honest, and quick to answer any questions I had. \r
One thing that made me feel like these guys knew their stuff was that i mentioned that I had gone to the ""Just Brakes"" shop right next to theirs. I had gotten my brake pads and calipers replaced and it was very shotty work ( my brakes started squeeking again a month later ). When I mentioned the place the manager quickly advised me not to take it there even if i didn't choose Ben White Automotive. That the ""Just Brakes"" shop there was a terrible shop ( something I agreed with but wanted his opinion on ).\r
The work they did seems to be very high quality and was fixed in 3 days ( dealership wanted to keep it for a whole week ). I highly recommend this place.
I was able to get a competitive quote on repairs needed, so far so good.
My A/C blower cut out (which is a bit of an issue living in Texas) and after they fixed it, it cut out again about a week later. I called them back about it and they fit me in right away to figure out what the problem was. They were extremely friendly and diligent in diagnosing what the underlying problem was and I haven't had a problem since. A/C is ice cold and blowing hard. I would definitely recommend them.
I had a great overall experience. I'd recommend to someone else looking to do some extensive work on your car.
Pros: Patient, explained everything I asked
These guys are very friendly and efficient. They explain car stuff to you in ways you can understand without ever making you feel as though they are trying to rip you off- which is usually my experience going to mechanics as a female. They are very straightforward, honest guys and I recommend them to everyone!
I found them because I had a car with a lot of problems. I visited a lot of mechanics and repair shops before this one. Now I only go to this one. They explain everything in ways that I can understand, they get everything done in a timely manner, and they helped me avoid unnecessary work on my car. They even gave me advice when I started looking for a new car.
Pros: Friendly, Helpful, Honest, Open till 6pm
Ben White Automotive North is the only shop I entrust my cars to. Pricing is competitive, but more importantly, I know they will fix the problem and not string me along.
Pros: Trustworthy, fair price, done when they say it will be done
My car is a high-mileage one that I try to take care of. BWA does all my car's oil changes and checks wiper blades to see when new ones are needed. They recently replaced both the radiator & water pump, plus all the hoses. They are honest & don't charge you for things your car doesn' t need. I recommend them to everyone I know.
Pros: diagnosed problems correctly, fixed promptly
Cons: can't think of any
As a woman it's nice to be able to find an auto repair service that you feel doesn't take advantage of your ignorance, if you don't know anything about cars! My car has hit the point where I need them often and they always get me in and out in a timely manner.
I took my older Jeep Cherokee in for an assessment of needed repairs and an estimate of the cost. With my vehicle on the lift, Mike pointed out to me what he thought should be done to keep the vehicle operating safely and to restore its handling capabilities. I opted to do what Mike advised and I had my Jeep back in a day. It now handles like it did when it was new. I like these guys - knew I was dealing with competent people from the start.
Pros: Knowledgeable, Quality of work, an efficient operation
I was really pleased with the quality of service I received at Ben White Automotive. I had my car in another shop that gave my a pretty hefty price quote. I called around to a few shops and Ben White Automotive was the best deal. Sometimes when you get a good price, well, you get what you pay for... that doesn't seem to be the case. My car is running great, and I can really feel a difference in handling.
Thanks Ben White Auto!
Pros: Reasonable, friendly, capable
Cons: Ugly yellow and blue sign...sorry guys.
I've been to BWA 3 times, this is the first time I've ever paid them anything. All of the other times they've turned me away telling me to go to other locations because they could better serve me.
I'm impressed because they AREN'T IN IT FOR THE MONEY. They truly want to help you.
A little on the pricey side, but well worth the trust that they've earned.
Pros: Great Service
My wife took our truck in for A/C service and they did the work fast and at a very good price.
Pros: Very good service, friendly and professional
They are extremely knowledgeable, fast, and trustworthy. Been going there for years.
Pros: Friendly, honest, reasonably priced
Cons: Not open on Saturdays
Fast and easy, friendly service. Thanks!
Quickly diagnosed my ""check engine"" as a faulty gas cap and loose exhaust hose. Thanks!
Everyone was very nice and very helpful, especially Mike!
Pros: Very fast and friendly service
Cons: They left a bit of work undone but they finished it up free
Finished the repairs the same day and were good about calling when the repairs were completed.
Pros: quick, professional and accurate estimates
They did a free diagnosis of both my cars to give me an estimate of how much it would cost to fix & maintain my cars. They did this in 1 1/2 hours and were very thorough, friendly & patient with me as I went through the list to prioritize what needed to be done first. They didn't pressure me to make a decision.
I was previously told by another mechanic that I would need to replace one stem on my wheel hub since it was stripped. That was going to cost me $90. The Ben White folks diagnosed it & stated that all I needed was a new $5 lug nut, which saved me $85+.
Pros: Quick Diagnosis of Car Maintenance Needs
Cons: A tad pricier than competition
The two times I've used Ben White North, they've been able to finish the repairs the same day.
Pros: Always fast
Pros: Quick, professional, and friendly
Cons: Price is a bit steep
When I walked in the shop,Mr.Gary Anders greeted me and asked me if he can be of any help. I did explained to him about the problem of my daughter's car and handed me the form to fill up.He came back to me right away and told me what needs to be done and how much it's going to cost me to do the job.Just to be honest;my first impression with this company was superb above and beyond my expectation compare to other shop I previously went to.Also not to mention the mechanic who did the work on the car,Mr. Lara Raymond- they all did an excellent job;honest and straightforward.I can assure you,I left that shop a very happy man and I will HIGHLY recommend them to all my friends.God Bless You All !!!
Pros: excellent service-nice people
Cons: I did a walk-in visit for a big job-I have to wait
Brought my Kia in for brakes, they had it done quickly, cheaper than the competition and
Pros: Quick and Friendly
Hard to find mechanics today that you feel like will be honest with you and only sell you what you need. If Ben White Auto can do it more economically, they make it happen. Good people!
Pros: thorough and reasonable
I frantically limped into Ben White North with my power-steeringless car right at closing time, and my mood was definitely improved by the helpfulness of the two men at the counter. They didn't mind my last-minute drop-in, and put my mind at ease as I left my car.
I'd had the car looked at elsewhere and knew it likely needed a new steering rack, but Ben White also asked to replace the tie rods. I was leery of agreeing to unnecessary work and asked why it was necessary, and I got a helpful explanation that made me feel better about the extra expense.
My car was repaired in right around a day, and with the shop conveniently located just off 183, my experience at Ben White was a positive one.
Pros: customer service, location,
