I moved out of Austin 2 years ago but I'll never forget my days at Jackson Ruiz. First of all, Austin is a town that thinks its much better than it is and many salons there label themselves as "all that" but they are really lame when compared to big city hair salons in NY, LA, etc. HOWEVER, Jackson Ruiz is not that way. Jackson Ruiz is a total world class hair salon - from the friendly receptionists to the friendly and accessible staff to the very high high quality services to the beautiful layout of the place and convenient location, you will not be disapointed by a thing at Jackson Ruiz. It is the ONLY place to go in Austin and one of the best hair salons I've ever been to anywhere.
PROS: friendly receptionists friendly and accessible staff, great services
CONS: NONE

First time I went the "stylist" could not get my layers even and symmetrical. After spending much exhaust and toil of my time trying to explain to the manager the unacceptable cut that was done on my hair. They set me up with a trainer. And I can't say the cut improved at all. So, I ended up wasting my money, and then having to go to the another salon to get it fixed. Bottom line. Don't waste your time or money?
Pros: None At All
Cons: Trainers That DON'T Know How to CUT

My friend who has been getting her hair cut at Jackson Ruiz (downtown) for years, finally convinced me to try out JR. I have been going to Avant for 3 1/2 years where the people have gotten snootier and snootier and I was dissatisfied with my hair color almost every time I walked out of there. So...I finally branched out and tried JR...and am soooo glad I did! I loved everything about the experience--from the woman who greeted me when I walked in the door to the no tipping policy at the end. I was completely satisfied with my colorist and resulting color...she seriously listened to my wants (and even took notes!) before she began instead of playing with my hair while pretending to listen to me in the mirror (like always happened at Avant). I loved everything about my experience and I hope that you will consider this salon.
Pros: JR--easy parking, awesome natural lighting, friendly atmosphere and staff
Cons: none

Everyone at Jackson Ruiz is very friendly and helpful. The girl that did my waxing was fast but still paid attention to detail. I was very pleased with the service and was then suprised when I was told that they are a No Tip salon. I was told that if I was happy with the service, rather than tip them, they'd appreciate positive word of mouth. I've been back 5 more times and have been equally pleased with the results each time.

I have been going to Jackson Ruiz for two years now and have been generally satisfied. Over the past few months, however, my appointments were canceled or re-arranged to accommodate the stylist's schedule. On my most recent visit everything seemed fine; after my hair was washed, I returned to the stylist and was treated as if I had done something horribly rude and offensive. It was strange, very uncomfortable, and deeply unsettling. I am not a hypersensitive or neurotic person, nor am I a rude or unprofessional person. I want professional treatment, even if the stylist, in this case the co-owner, is having a bad day. I feel fairly sad about this, as if I were blind to things in the past (like the stylist's serious dislike of me??). I am looking for a new salon and stylist.
Pros: great massages, front desk staff, shampooists
Cons: rudeness, unprofessionalism, expensive

I have been searching high and low to find "the one". I 've found great stylists, but poor atmosphere or vice versa. I want the total package, and am willing to pay for it! JR Salon (Burnet) provides both, AND it's budget friendly! Customer service is top notch and I received a fantastic haircut ( by Mia) and color (by Maria). So good I WANTED to tip, but it's a non-gatuity salon!
Pros: customer service, price, great stylists

I have been going to JR for almost 2 years and have used 3 or 4 different stylists, very happy with all, but have stuck with Philip for over a year. He is great with my long curly hair. My daughter, whose head is a mass of cowlicks, has board straight fine hair, has been seeing him for almost as long and you would never know that we ever had problems with her hair. All of the staff is friendly, knowledgable and always will to answer any question. Not wild about the new smocks for customers. Way too bulky. Wasn't crazed about the pedicure that I had there. The staff in the mani/pedi area were too busy chatting with each other, rather than paying attention to the customer. Felt like a mani-in-the-mall experience rather than a Spa -was a year ago though so could be better now.
Pros: great stylists, open Sundays, no tipping
Cons: aloof pedicure, rushed pedicure

I've been going to Jackson Ruiz for about a year now--I absolutely love my colorist, Jason, who now works at the Burnet Road location. He is amazing with color, and I have never had so many compliments or the questions:
1--Your hair is beautiful...and then when i tell them I get a little highlight help,
2--Where do you go and who do you go to?
The prices are getting a little steep - a partial with Jason is $110. BUT, that price includes tax and tip, plus you get a head massage and a hand massage as well. It's worth it, I promise. Jason hasn't let me down yet.
I haven't found a hairstylist that I am particularly attached to at JR...still looking...
Pros: Jason, no tipping
Cons: price

I've been going for a few years now and I couldn't be happier. I have curly hair and I've never had a better cut - Bianca is the best. She fills up quickly so you have to book in advance, but it's worth the wait. I get my color done by Mariana and she's great too! The wait for color's not bad - usually a week or two. I've gone from place to place looking for a good color specialist and I will never go to anyone else. I've had more compliments on my hair in the few years that I've been going to Jackson Ruiz than I've probably had in my life. They have a no tipping policy and they give free hand massages while you get your hair done.
Pros: No tipping, Hand massage, Open on weekends
Cons: Booking in advance

I would not recommend Jackson Ruiz because of their rude and snobby stylists. But Bianca is a sweet, friendly girl with tons of talent. She is the only reason I've been going for 4 years. I've had appointments with other stylists(because they over book Bianca all the time) and felt like a second class citizen with every one of them. I had my makeup done there for my bridal portraits, but the artist rushed through the application, removed the makeup twice, even threw down one of the brushes because he was frustrated. When he was done he said "This is the best I can do with what I have to work with"! Because he had used so much makeup remover and rubbed my face so much, my eyes looked red and swollen! I removed the makeup on the way to the portraits. :-(
Pros: Bianca
Cons: Rude Stylists, Over Priced, Overbooking/Canceling

the front desk was very nice, but as soon as my stylist came to get me, my experiance started to go downhill. She made me feel like she i was taking up to much of her precious time. After the cut she just started grabbing things off the shelf and didn't even tell me what she grabbed or how to use it. When i tried to ask another stylist about the products, he looked at me like he was to good to help and with a smug smile, directed me to the front desk for help. Turns out that he was one of the owners and he didn't feel the need to help me. So if you want snobby stylists, who talk down to you, jackson ruiz is for you, if you want actually feel good about yourself, go to another aveda salon.

I have been going to Jackson Ruiz for 3 yrs, Bianca cuts my hair and is wonderful. The atmosphere is relaxing and I love going there. The little touches like scalp and hand massage, make up touch up, make it special. Also I get my eyebrows done there and that has also been a great experience. I highly recommend Jackson Ruiz.
Pros: friendly staff, skilled, relaxing
Cons: schedule in advance!

I have to say, although JR has the 'traditional' aveda salon demeanor (clean, smells nice, attractive) I was not as happy with my experience as I had hoped. The hair cut I got was about the skill level of a hairschool student that I ended up hating and growing out for a year, plus I felt like I was just another name on the schedule to my stylist. The front desk was professional, and much more personable than the stylist. Maybe this stylist was having a bad day (understandable) but there's something to be said for 'having a personality'. I feel like this salon sacrifices it's 'personality' for high priced grouchiness. This was such a disappointment seeing as how I was really looking forward to being 'pampered' since I had JUST had a baby and needed some relaxation and to feel 'pretty'.Totally impersonal!!! Maybe even, dare I say, 'snobby' without good cause.
Pros: good location, great products
Cons: impersonal, boring

I have been going to Jackson Ruiz for almost a year and am sad to say I'm going to be switching salons. It was great for a haircut, but I have less enthusiasm for my experience with highlights. Maybe I was trying to get my hair to do something it's not capable of, but after several attempts to make it work with my colorist there, I'm reluctantly looking elsewhere. Two awesome things about Jackson Ruiz: free hand massages, and a no-tipping policy. It makes it a truly relaxing experience.
Pros: Soothing Environment, No-tipping, Hair cuts

Top service, great atmosphere, EXCELLENT highlights, genuine people, fair prices given the excellent value. I live in SF now but still dearly miss this haven in Austin. I've practically never felt more at home at a salon in my life. Wendy who does color is the sweetest girl in the world - and amazingly talented!!!
Pros: people, atmosphere, free apples

When I used to get my hair relaxed one of the owners did my hair and my daughters's hair also.
She is one of the best beautician's around and has spun off and created a beautiful salon with a beautiful atmosphere. My daughter is grown up now and has happily visited since Jackson Ruiz opened the doors. I just drive by and see that the place is and looks like what people that deserve a bit of pampering and care desire in a salon! (I have
locs now and love fred fekkai products at present).
Best of Luck and a Long History
to Jackson and Ruiz!
Cons: Closed on Sun.

I had been searching for a good salon for a long time, and Jackson Ruiz fully met and exceeded my expectations. Alan cut my hair, and he did an absolutely amazing job and truly seemed to care about what he was doing. Jackson Ruiz gives amazing attention to detail and strives to provide every customer with a wonderful experience. DEFINITELY recommended.
Pros: relaxing, great service, good atmosphere
Cons: difficult parking, expensive

I had been to several top rated salons here but couldn't find someone who could handle thick, curly hair. J-R had no problem! The style was current and the relaxing atmosphere, hand massage, and shampoo massage just made my day. Ask for Judi. She's got it all when it comes to knowing what to do with hair. Everyone else there is so friendly. It was great.
Pros: great value for the m, tip included in price, excellent stylists' t

The stylists are AWESOME, talented, and artistic individuals....one of the owners, Ms. Jackson, is a businesswoman. She cancelled my appointment to accomodate her 3 month in advance schedule, and could not so much as phone me to let me know. Overbooking doesn't mean cutting clients out. I was getting engaged that weekend and the appointment setter said I had never made an appointment. I sent her the original email I asked for the appointment date on, they responded with a time and confirmation, then claimed I never made an appoint. They ruined a very important weekend. I expect more out of Evelyn because she is an operating partner, but she is rude, inconsistant, and I don't think I will ever go back there again. I'd rather go to Bella where I am treated with a lot more courtesy.
**Brides to be, beware** you have been warned...
Pros: great stylists, massages
Cons: rarily answer email, mistakes with appts., not reliable

I visited Jackson Ruiz as a last resort. All of the stylish salons in Austin had let me down and I figured I would have to give this salon a shot. Bianca cut my hair and it was fabulous. This Aveda concept salon provides much more than anyone else. I have been to Anne Kelso, Aziz , Salon 505 and even Toni and Guy. Jackson Ruiz tops them all with their complementary scalp and hand massages and when your complete and thought no one could be any better than they, they offered me a complementary make up spruce. This salon deserves the best rating in Austin, it deserves it.
Pros: Inexpensive, Attentive Staff, Relaxing
Cons: none

I had gotten a very bad haircut and decided I would try a nice salon. I picked Jackson Ruiz and I am so happy I did. The shampoo experience alone is enough but then you get a nice hand massage while getting a great cut. I always walk out feeling pretty and look forward to my next visit. Best of all...no tipping. It's worth it!!

Everyone is friendly at Jackson Ruiz. I got an excellent cut and the best highlights. Love the complimentary hand massage too! Best of all, it their prices are reasonable. This was my first visit and I will definitely be back.

Every experience in the 1 1/2 years I have been going to JR has been nothing short of life changing. As my fiance says, "Everyone is so nice there. They pamper you till you almost pass out, and even the ugly people are pretty." That says it all!

I have tried many, many salons and spas in Dallas and Austin looking for the one that had it "all" and have finally found it! Jackson Ruiz has the most welcoming faces and relaxing surroundings. Everyone is extremely laid back and you never feel like a small fish in a big pond. The professionalism and expertise of every staff member is unparalleled and the cost is extremely reasonable. From the small touches such as a no cell phone policy, cold water w/ cucumber slices in the waiting area, and perfect soothing lighting, to a huge plus - NO TIPS allowed, Jackson Ruiz Salon is a must try for everyone!

The salon is beautiful, very relaxing and it smells great. The staff is very helpful and they always make me feel welcome.
The cost of the services include the tip so I end up spending about the same as I would pay at any salon in town. I always recommend this salon to anyone looking for a new salon.
