There were 5 of us guys that went out to dinner to Hattie's on a Friday night. We had reservations, had to wait about 20 minutes for our table, and I eagerly anticipated seeing the menu. This was my first visit and I heard good

OMG! This is an awesome Restaurant in Beautiful Oak Cliff- I have never had a bad meal at Hattie's - A must have on Sunday for Brunch is The Chicken and Waffles, for Lunch the Grilled flat iron steak, On romaine & Field greens in a blue cheese dressing, & Balsamic drizzle- I had it for the first time on Tuesday and fell in Love with it- Do not miss out on the smoked bacon & cornmeal wrapped fried oysters W/ creamy coleslaw & horseradish cream it is out of this world or the Tomato bisque, With mini grilled cheese-YUM. The Drinks are always first Class form Sam the Bartender, and Tony is always so Happy to welcome you to his place with a warm Smile and a great big welcome. The wait staff is by far the best in Dallas. This is My favorite Eatery in The World.

I don't understand why this restaurant won't split the check. It's one thing trying to divide up a single check among 3 or 4 people. But it's another thing when you get a single check for 11 people with tax and 20% tip already included in the final total. It took us more than 30 minutes to figure out who owes what and how much money would go on each of the 8+ credit cards. We were told this is a management policy and they can't do anything about it. I would NEVER recommend this restaurant for large groups solely based on this ridiculous policy.

The food was ok but I've had much better for less money and the noise level in this restaurant is incredible. It's not the music or loud diners, it's just the bad design of this place. The decor was nice but acoustics are horrible. Good luck having a conversation.

It seems like all the new restaurants in Dallas are the high end comfort food concept (Park, The Porch, Hibiscus, Screen Door, etc. etc). Hattie's has by far the best food and I think their Mac and Cheese is the best in Dallas!

LOVE the home made food...and it's right smack in the middle of Bishop's Arts District. It's a great place for Sunday after church and have brunch too.

We wanted to try Hattie's with professional colleagues after recommendation of the Bishop's arts district. A reservation was made for 9pm, party of 5 on a Saturday night. We arrived at 5 minutes past 9 and were told a table would be available within 15 minutes. The hostess was not particularly friendly, but correct. We accepted the situation and walked around in the Bishops Arts District and enjoyed some of the local Arts Shops. For the next 45 minutes (!) one of us would go back to the restaurant every 15 minutes, but told off in an increasingly unfriendly manner. We were astonished that no attempt was made to excuse or offer even a glass of water while we were walking the streets with a group of potentially excellent repeat customers. At 10pm (!) we were told that there is obviously no telling when there would be a table (!) and that we should see this for ourselves - the hostess displayed quite unbelievable attitude. We were no in mood to even angry, but felt we should let the manager know that this was not really the nicest attitude towards guests who waited by now more than one hour on the street - and promptly the owner came and told us to please leave the restaurant. Wow!
We got a table at the neighboring Tillman's Roadhouse, which turned out to be very good. Funnily, we later met a group of other professional colleagues who were at the restaurant the evening before, had to wait until more than one hour after their reservation reservation - and were then pushed to order and eat within 60 minutes. Fortunately, the food was apparently so midiocre that they were happy to leave even faster. It seems Hattie's is strangled by its own owner to maximize profit out of a reputation that has hitherto been quite good. Regularly overbooked and compromising on service and food, while increasing prizes. Well, try to make your reservation...

We were there on election night. Very crowded, but the service was still top notch. Ultra chic and cute atmosphere, totally timeless. We started with a great bottle of underrated Conn Creek Cab. Then proscuitto wrappd figs stuffed with nuts and blue cheese and awesome crab cakes. Next was velvety asparagus soup and an above par wedge salad with crispy proscuitto. Then we split the catfish. Wow! Have they ever elevated that fish. Must be coated in panko and ground pecans, so incredibly good, under $14 and plenty to split! Finished with a key lime tart that was just perfect. My only problem all night was that I couldn't fit it all in. Can't wait to go back and bring out of town guests.

Pros: Great food, charming staff and atmosphere

Cons: too much great food, my stomach hurt

Hattie's relies on "tradition" to create an exclusionary environment that smacks of discrimination. We had a reservation, but our party of 4 representing 3 different races was seated at the worst table in the restaurant when there were vacant tables in better locations. After an uncomfortable meal that was mediocre at best, we left feeling like we had experienced the worst of the "Deep South Tradition".

This place is a wonderful place for a business lunch. Walking in you realize how bright and open the restaurant is. It is decked out with white everywhere and yellow flowers accenting spaces here and there. The bar area is separated from the restaurant by an open doorway where the host greets you. This day the host was a tall gentlemen who was not so friendly but he was effiecient. When we were seated we were promptly served water and wonderful sourdough bread by the slice. Orders were taken where I chose the chicken salad sandwich and sweet potato fries. The sandwich was delicious, sweet, well seasoned and no over done with mayo. The sweet potato fries were the best I've had. Sweet potato fries are difficult to cook and get crispy, but they got it. The menu had good selection and was well priced. Two people could get out for less than $20. A great meal and okay service. I'm looking forward to going back for dinner.

Hatties is my favorite restaurant ever! My idea of the perfect meal is the tomato basil soup with grilled cheese wedges, fried green tomatoes, then off to the delectible pecan crusted catfish. Then it is on to desert with the amazing bread pudding. The atmosphere is simply elegant and very inviting. The service is wonderful. I highly recommend this restaurant for any special occasion or anytime you just want the best dinning experience of your life. I'll be there soon, you can count on it!

In Bishop Arts District-like going to a fun Austin area. Hattie's has a lot of character and their brunch is wonderful with different menu choices from a lot of other brunch places.

Good basic menu with a varied selection of higher end basics. The prices are okay for the food you get and the atmosphere is enjoyable. Like all the restaurants in this area they get really crowded at lunch time.

Hattie's is a wonderful dining experience. It is a place that is best suited with an advance reservation. I have read many reviews here that talk about having to wait, etc....make a reservation! We recently had a group of 10 dine here and had a wonderful experience (again when planned ahead this location is ideal of a larger group). The service was impeccable. Our server was fantastic and patient as we quizzed him about several of the dishes. The pulled pork with low country grits continues to be my favorite dish at this restuarant. Everyone in our group was satisfied and commented on what a great night we had. I would recommend this restaurant highly.

I am no sure what some of these people are talking about. I have eaten at Hattie's tons of times, and I have never experienced anything that I wouldn't expect at any other restaurant, If I go to a restaurant without a reservation I expect to WAIT. If someone is going to review a restaurant I expect them to have common sense. I worked in restaurants for years, and often the restaurant wasn,t full however people who had the for thought to make a RESERVATION had dibs on those tables. So before you write a scathing review about a long wait at the door, you could replace your sarcasim with a well placed call to the reservation desk (BEFORE HAND)

The haughty manager at Hattie's ruined what had been a delightful evening out. After dining on fabulous sushi at Teppo, we stopped by Hattie's for dessert and coffee. We were left standing alone (as in, no one else around, i.e., not crowded) like orphans in the postage stamp that they call a bar while the manager "checked availability". We could clearly see that there were empty tables in the restaurant. After a 10 minute wait we were told by the manager that we "probably wouldn't want to wait an hour and a half" for a table. Our group, casually dressed in what passes for acceptable evening attire at every other restaurant in town, had been snubbed in the Bishop Arts District. Don't worry, sir, your restaurant will never have to accept payment for our patronage. The Nodding Dog, a great little coffee shop across the street was only too happy to accomodate us and their desserts are the best kept secret in Dallas!

My 1st time at Hatties (lunch) was wonderful. But 2 months later when I went last night for dinner we were all disappointed. We had a reservation, but it took a good 5-7 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge us standing there (and by the way, there was NOONE else waiting). Anyway, all throughout dinner the service was just exceptionally slow. Everytime we needed something we literally had to search and flag down our waiter. And as for the food, the pecan crusted catfish was the only memorable dish. The pulled pork was incredibly bland, the grits were gummy and floating in butter, and the meatloaf was just a soggy mess. And as for dessert, the so-called "chocolate molten cake" was nothing but chocolate soup in a cup...no cake involved...literally chocolate soup is the only way to describe it...totally a liquid with whip cream on top that had melted already when brought to us. All in all, I was very disappointed and don't plan on going back anytime soon. Oh, and if you don't like to walk far, this is not the place for you...parking is a nightmare and there is no valet.

My husband and I made our 1st visit to Hattie's last Saturday. Expectations were high. but I was severely disappointed, disillusioned, and dissatisfied. My meal (chicken breast stuffed with cornbread dressing with crayfish over tomato pilau) was a beautiful disaster. It looked great, but the stuffing was thick, gummy, and tastless. The chicken was crying out for at least a little salt. I was shocked that a dish like that could come from such a lovely looking place. In contrast, my husband had the meatloaf and his plate was truly gorgeous to the eyes and tongue (I tasted it). Our waiter never asked if everything was okay. I thought that indicated a lack of confidence in what my response might be. Especially with 3/4 of the food still there when he took my plate. I did let him know though!

I had been to Hattie's when they first opened but have recently returned twice in the last month. Everything was fabulous. . . appetizers, entrees, desserts, service, ambience. I would especially recommend the Chicken Fried Scallops appetizer, any salad on the menu, and the Low Country Shrimp. On one trip, my sister-in-law from North Carolina was with us. She is a travel agent, and she commented that this was only the second restaurant she had been to in her entire lifewhere every course served was a perfect 10. The other was a restaurant in Paris. We have totally enjoyed our experiences at this wonderful establishment. Some friends from NYC are visiting this weekend, and I plan to take them to Hattie's!

I have been going to Hattie's almost every two weeks since it opened. The staff is extremely friendly, the food is interesting and excellent. The chicken fried scallops are a wonderful surprise. Tony always greets everyone with a smile. Kristen is friendly, fun, and professional. Even the beautiful people of North Dallas find this Oak Cliff treasure a great place to go for excellent food and fun. Close to Downtown for lunch as well.

I loved the place when I walked in the door. I continued to enjoy it through the soup and the salad. It went downhill from there. The pulled pork did not have a good flavor. The meatloaf served to my dinner companion was only mediocre. Staff was very pleasant and friendly but not enough to compensate for the poor service from the kitchen. It was very pricey.

A great dining experience and a hidden treasure in South Dallas. The food is excellent, ambiance is eclectic-chic, not inexpensive but a great date place. The service can be a little lax, but friendly. It gets noisy with the concrete floors and tin ceiling, but overall a really enjoyable experience.

I don't know what Billappppppp's problem was, but his review does not fit the Hattie's I know. I eat there an average of twice a month and 19 times out of 20, there is nothing in Dallas to compare for food quality, ambience, friendly attentive service and overall value. Many guests that I've taken there liken it to a restaurant on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, but at a fraction of the cost. It is my favorite restaurant in Dallas; a diamond in a sea of Cubic Zirconia. The best Bloody Mary in Dallas!
