Ratings_icons TREE TOP IS THE ONLY PLACE I'LL GO.

tree top is the ONLY place i would trust the care of my magna babies to. i have continuosly been treated very respectfully and helpfully. i think the person who was so carless to let there bird be eaten should be THANKFUL that tree top even sold them another bird. had that been me you would have bounced out the door. so many people buy a bird for a decoration to impress the company they keep and have know idea how to give the bird what it needs. then they blame the seller for their own neglect. i know they take in some "strays" sometimes and if you have ever seen some things people will do to a bird, a missing toe is nothing. look up crop burn. a woman that bought a bird to hand feed because she said she could do it and couldn't. she force fed extremely hot food to a chick and cooked it's flesh away. i have saved many birds and my latest is a congo that was in a cage with toys help together by picture hanging wire, screws, and bent nails. the birds beak has never been trimmed and this morning 1/4in of the tip broke off while it was stepping up to my hand. i've had this bird since sunday 11-22-09 so i have not had a chance to get it the grooming it needs but you can bet the house it will be done at TREE TOP and no place else. anyone can file a beak, trim a feather or file a nail. i want someone who cares like they do.

all pet stores get dirty and its a constant cycle but i have never in my many visits thought that it was out of the normal for a pet store. i don't go there to have my feathers stroked, i go there to have my birds feathers stroked. it takes me 1.5 hrs to get there from my home in the country and i pass houndreds of shops. key word there is "PASS".

Ratings_icons Courtesy is not in style there.

I have no hidden motive. I just hate to see one staff member who has horrible people skills left in charge of the store constantly while the owner, Debbie, who IS a nice enough person, seems reluctant to make that one staff member treat people with courtesy. It's been reported by others that the staff never seem to agree on anything or seem to tell you the same thing. I'm sorry, Debbie, but that means that leadership is dropping the ball somewhere. One may have a good experience there if one is liked by one certain staff member. If not, you're ignored and treated coldly and rudely if you are noticed at all.

I had a horrible event at my house when one of my dogs got to my baby bird and killed it. It was my fault and I was devastated. One staff member, Martina, treated me with kindness and compassion and sympathy. Another worker, who had bred the baby bird I was going to buy to replace it, was openly rude to me and my husband about what happened - constantly criticized the breed of dogs we have and made me feel worse about the whole thing. I seldom went out to see my new baby bird until she was ready to come home - simply because I was treated so coldly and rudely every time I went into the store. I finally was "Allowed" by the rude worker, to bring home the bird I had paid $200 for. Basically, this one person is in charge of everything and sets the tone for all the others. They do whatever she says and treat people as badly as she does when she is there.

So sad, Debbie. My advice to folks who need to buy bird food, go to Roach's Feed and Seed, just off the square in Garland. They are friendly, courteous and know a lot about birds. I had almost forgotten what I was like to be treated like a customer. What a concept.

I would like to make a comment to the negative reviews given to Tree Top. I have worked in the retail pet industry for many years, and have known debbie for many years as well. She is the most honest and intelligent person that i have ever met. I have to admit that there are ocasions that service is difficult to recieve, but only for those customers that feel they are the only and most important people in the store. Also the store has always been clean and had the largest selection of supplies. What these negative reviews don't talk about is the thousands and thousands of happy and satisfied patrons. I hope that these extremely rare unsatisfied individuals do not have hidden motives.

We have been returning to Tree Top for about 2 years now. We got our Half Moon Conure there and she is beautiful and healthy. Tree Top is certainly for you if you are a bird person; they always put the birds first. Some people may be put off by the traffic in the store and the fact that they can be quite busy. I suppose the alternative is getting a pet from a chain pet store where the conditions are sterile and waiting is rarely an issue. Then again, these stores don't have birds that have been loved on, socialized, and cared for by bird experts. Often we've arrived and browsed and found something to purchase and had to wait for a moment while someone finished trimming a bird's nails or getting a baby out for someone to look at. This has always seemed worth it to us, because we know that if it were our bird we wouldn't want it to have to wait while in the midst of getting it's nails done.
We have been very happy with TT and will certainly continue to go there. Sometimes we go to shop their bulk bird food, but just as often we go to ask the staff questions or take our bird to visit the ones there.
One more thing, TT offers bird boarding. Our Ollie loves going to the 'bird hotel'. She knows several of the employees by name and is always so happy to see them. For their part, the staff know her and interact happily with her when she arrives. We know she is in good hands and well cared for while she is there even if we might have to wait a few minutes when we pick her up.
I would tell someone who is making their first trip to Tree Top to not be shy. If you have questions or aren't sure where things are, how things are done, or want to know anything about the birds, ask. Someone will definitely help you, they love to talk about birds there.

I went to get Zupreem and toys. Ended up not buying as it iwas hard to get service.

Agree with other reviewers, fairly dirty, very disorganized, not the worst birds I've ever seen but definitely not the best either.

Prices were significantly higher on toys.

Probably won't return or recommend. Stick with other pet stores or scout around on the internet for cleaner, better food and toy deals.

Ratings_icons Tree Top Bird Ctr is not worth the visit

A friend of mine wrote the earlier review about the dishonest experience about Tree Top. After she forwarded me a copy of her review, I felt it was necessary to add my own.

She was unaware that after they had so much trouble, my husband and I had stopped in thinking that maybe it was just an isolated case. In all fairness, even the nicest of couples have had bad experiences. We had always wanted to add to our flock. In addition, we had heard mixed reviews about Tree Top.

After going in, I can safely say that I must agree with the negative reviews that were given. There was more than poop on the floors. Large dust bunnies around some of the toys, the store smelled unclean - not a fresh bird scent but just like old dirt and cages that hadn't been cleaned. There was a lot of gunk on the edges of the floors as though mopping was a half hazard thing.

Customer service??? Hmmm, since we couldn't get any I guess I can't comment on it.

Birds - they were okay. Not anything spectacular and having traveled alot we've seen incredible birds. Avalon Aviaries in Colorado was incredible. This place sort of reminded me of a puppy mill for birds.

We decided to purchase elsewhere. For all the earlier comments, poop on the floor happens, this is true. However, there is no excuse for dusty and dirty toys, containers and floors. After all, you only get one chance to make a first impression.

Ratings_icons Dishonest - A terrible experience

Lynne H.

We purchased our second bird from this store. At the time they seemed friendly if scattered. There were several times that it was difficult to get answers or accurate information. All in all we felt that they were an okay if not excellent bird store.

Frequently we returned for supplies. On one visit, Debbie the owner, said she had a bird she thought we would love. After meeting him, our little boy loved him so we went ahead and placed a deposit. We came into visit frequently. About 6 weeks before he was supposed to come home, we noticed that the other bird we had purchased from them had been shedding more and more feathers. Eventually, all of his tail and many of his wing feathers fell out.

We immediately called the store out of concern for both the bird at our home and the new baby. We were told over and over that they would give Debbie the message and have her call us. After two dozen calls without hearing back, and even stopping in, and she wasn't in that day, we were very concerned about our next steps. The vet was unsure of the cause although tests were run.

Courtney called to let us know the new baby was ready to go home almost three weeks early. I told her what was going on and that we had left repeated messages for Debbie. I wasn't sure whether or not we should bring the new bird home under those conditions. She said we definitely should NOT.

According to the sales receipt, we would receive a credit for our $200. We never did. My husband went in a week later and started to purchase bird food. The girl at the counter said that she had no record of a store credit. She said she would talk to Debbie and call him back. The next day, the same clerk called and said there was no credit since we didn't pick up the bird.

At this point our only recourse is to report them to the BBB and take them to Small Claims court. However, it would seem even more effective to have everyone out there know exactly what type of store and crookery they are getting into. As another reviewer wrote - Buyer beware! By the way, Debbie never called or wrote - guess she never cared about the other bird she sold us once she had the money. Who knows - maybe she was so busy defending herself on the internet that she just didn't have time.

Definitely the best place in the DFW area. It doesn't get any better than Tree Top. Would not do business with anyone else. We all clean up the floors and the droppings - they are birds - it happens. The owner the staff are awesome! My daughter and I are very happy with Tree Top.

After reading the reviews of this store, I must confess I agree with all but one. I have had the pleasure of being a customer of Tree Top for almost a year now. I have been welcomed from the very first day, whether I was just looking or wanting to get to know a bird or to purchase a bird. I live 50 miles from this store and have traveled the every other day visiting my birds that were being hand-fed. The store has always been clean with the exception of the few accidents that baby birds have. I can't say enough about how helpful and knowledgeable the staff is. The fact is, is the staff are being overrun with customers wanting to see birds, several of the "resident customers" are willing and able to step in and assist the staff. (Deb still doesn't trust us with the cash register!)My wife and I traveled all over North Texas to bird stores and bird shows, this is the BEST place to learn what type of bird you want and to learn how to care and handle the birds. I'll never make a purchase from another store. No questions asked. I originally just wanted to purchase one bird, but have since got over my fears of the macaws, along with my wife, and we now have 3 birds at home and another being hand-fed. No other store in Dallas can offer you the knowledge and experience of caring for birds like Tree Top.

I came in a couple of months ago to look for a companion for my parakeet. I wound up with an absolutely wonderful Jenday Conure and have since purchased a White Capped Pionus. The staff is the best! They truly care about the birds and do whatever they can to help the birds and their owners have the best experiences possible. They are knowledgeable and always willing to help. Yes, Poop Happens!!! Anyone who knows birds knows this is a fact. All the staff and the owners that congregate to visit their babies are involved in the cleanup and helping potential owners that stop by. There is no other place like this!!!!

Ratings_icons Love this store !

Denise S.

I recently lost my pet cockatiel and was grieving . After my friends and husband encouraged me to get another one I decided to to try. I went to another store in town and was told I could look but not hold. I left and went to Treetop. I found the staff there very friendly and when I asked about any cockatiels they brought out a beautiful baby still being weaned after holding him and spending time with him I fell in love and bought him. I go everyday to see and hold him and while visiting him I found another great bird and bought her also. This is a great place for all bird lovers. The staff is quiet friendly and very helpful. I have never seen the store dirty. Yes poop gets on the floor and the seed does get thrown or fall to the floor, that is what birds do. Everybody cleans the poop from their own birds and from other birds. I highly recommend this store for anyone looking for a great pet.

Ratings_icons Best store ever!

Leigh L.

If you are a bird lover or a future bird lover I highly recommend Tree Top Bird Center! The way the owner has the place set up is the best idea ever. If you buy an unweaned baby, visiting him or her is allowed and encouraged. They have a place in the back of the store where you can sit with your baby and visit with other birds and their owners. Having bought birds before, buying my African Grey at Tree Top was the best experience I had ever had. My Grey and I were having some issues(I was a little nervous with him and it freaked him out). The owner Debra could see that I was having issues with him and took the time to work with Paco and me. Between her and getting advice from all of the other bird lovers I now have the best African Grey ever! I had even checked out other bird stores in the area and was told that they don't let you visit your bird until it's ready to go home. If that had been the case with Paco, he would just be another bird stuck in his cage 24-7 because he had an owner who didn't know how to work with him. The only bad thing about the store is that I keep falling in love with the babies! Thanks Debra and Staff, you guys rock!

Ratings_icons The Best Bird Store in Dallas, Bar None!!!!!

Bob and Lisa B.

We started coming to Treetop in May of 2008. Since then, we have acquired 5 Lovebirds and 2 Macaws. This is a great store, fully stocked and knowledgeable and friendly staff. On the weekends, it does get busy, customers coming in and out and of course, the "regulars" who come to visit their babies that haven't weaned yet. And, the regulars who just come in with their birds and go to the "migration station" in the back to mingle and visit with great friends made there!!As far as the floors, high traffic, people coming in with thier birds, poop does happen!. We, as customers and friends of Treetop, clean up after our own birds and try to clean accidents by other birds. We highly recommend Treetop!!The staff is great!!!! The owner, Debbie, is a honest and caring person, owner, and bird lover.

We are the lucky family that adopted Zena (the Macaw with the missing toes), and we thank our lucky stars everyday that we are blessed with her being a part of our family. Since finding Tree Top Bird Center about a year and a half ago, we have become the proud owner of 6 birds from this business, and all birds were healthy when we bought them, and have wonderful personalities. If you are a bird lover Tree Top is the place to be, Deb and her staff know more about birds than any other store I have visited. It does get kind of crazy in there on the weekends but I have always received excellent customer service and we have also met a lot of neat people hanging out in the store. You will always be treated like family here

Ratings_icons Absolutely Horrid - Dirty and Disgusting.

This place is filthy. They have several birds which are missing toes and the floor always has gunk on it. The service is well, who knows since it is impossible to get any when you go in.

We were going to purchase food for our birds but decided the risk of carrying a disease back was too great. We heard several of the employees discussing several baby macaws that had mysteriously died over the weekend. Not good, buyer beware!

Response from this business:

Sorry you had that experience replied on 04/07/09
I am the owner of Tree Top Bird Center and we take pride in our birds and our store. We test our facilities and our birds for disease on a regular basis, and we have not had baby macaws "mysteriously die" in our store recently or ever. We do get birds in from time to time that are missing toes for one reason or another. One of our war stories; we rescued a macaw form near death as the breeder did not know what they where doing and she was missing several toes. She now has a great, loving home and does not even know she is handicapped. We try to find all birds a loving home and do not discriminate because of imperfection. (as long as they are healthy of course) . I do admit that the floor gets pretty dirty as we have high traffic (which also makes it crazy to get help sometimes. We are growing so it can be hard to keep up especially if we are short handed). We also highly recommend people purchasing a bird, spend several weeks coming up and visiting their bird before taking them home, and we handle our birds to socialize them so it can get messy and I do apologize for that.

We adopted a cockateil from them. They are very knowledgeable. Sometimes it is hard to get service when they are busy. It is also hard to tell who is working there from who is just visiting birds. They are well stocked with all kinds of items for birds. It is a really fun place to go even if you don't have a bird.
