Dr. Richard Bischofhausen of VCA Metroplex Animal Hospital of Irving, Texas performed, what we believed to be an unnecessary surgery on our wonderful rescue dog that ultimately resulted in horrible results. We agreed to the surgery based on incorrect information on follow up treatment by Dr. Bischofhausen. We later asked for our dog's medical records and then shortly later, VCA Metroplex of Irving, Texas, fired us! Go elsewhere to take care of your pets!

    RE: DR. RICHARD BISCHOFHAUSEN

Last year, Dr. Bischofhausen misrepresented the Cancer Treatment for my dog. We relied on his gross misrepresentation when agreeing to let him operate on our dog. Our dog received a useless operation and within hours of coming home following this surgery, he was sick to his stomach, gagging and couldn't breathe properly and then was ultimately diagnosed with Laryngeal Paralysis LP - DR. B. implied that it was a coincidence but we don't buy it! And despite spending lots of money and visits, it wasn't Dr. B. who diagnosed LP or who successfully treated our dog for the Cancer.

I ALSO DO NOT RECOMMEND VCA METROPLEX ANIMAL HOSPITAL OF IRVING

After questioning the practices of Dr. B and his Tech's work; we requested our dog's medical records and shortly thereafter; they fired us as patients/customers after 4 years of faithfully paying their bills....

The doctor inf that if one of the cats was getting to worse to call and bring the animal back. When i called back to inf that straight out refuses. Then why tell me to just be refuses. They have a post dated check and everything, but they would rather see a pet die then understand the situation. I filed a complaint regarding the medical director terry clark she not human, it is a shame that this company is so concerned more about money than the life of a pet. Shame on vca for being a money hungry company! Your customer service staff is rude, sarcastic;marina heather, amanda, and the medical director terry, had the audacity to have me get all the info for them when it had already been done. I asked them to conference the call with walmart pharmacy to make sure she did her job; they refused. They leave you on hold forever. They also do not really care. They rather you call back then deal with the issue. The most understanding person there was there was the doctor. When i start making money again after next week (i just started a new job and am between checks), i promise to never bring any of my pets to your company again, and will post everywhere how terrible and money hungry this company is, reviews, internet, facebook, and the media as well, in english and spanish, everyone will know! It only hurts when it's your animal.

Our dog was severely injured, we brought him into this hospital as it was late at night and they are 24 hours. The moment we walked in, they whisked him away due to the severity of his injuries (he was bleeding profusely to the point of possible death by blood loss), They bandaged him up, cleaned him up and let him rest and eat. The next morning, we called to check up, they said he was sleeping but doing well. That same night, we went back and we got to see him; he was clean, happy and his old self, albeit limping. The doctor told us his bone was shattered in his leg; we would have to pay for pricey surgery, but we had the dog since he was 4 weeks old, for over 6 years. We were willing. (Some people in our neighborhood loved him so much, they were already starting a collection for his surgery by the next day!) Before we left that night, my mother was very upset and after thanking the doctor and the nurses, she said to the nurse at the front desk, "Please take care of my dog, we love him, we'll be back in the morning PLEASE take good care of him!" The woman responded, "I promise we will take care of him" and held my mother's hand. The next morning we called to check up on him and we were told, "Oh. You just dropped him off and never called; that's abandonment, so we put him down." WHAT?! Not only had we called the next day after initially taking him there, we went in that next night! My mother was furiously angry and the vet's response was, "Sorry, that was the first time I've ever accidentally euthanized an animal. Sorry." And that was the final response we got. No one ever apologized further, none of our calls after that conversation were ever returned; they didn't even offer to give us our pets ashes after THEY KILLED HIM "ON ACCIDENT." I honestly think they just assumed we weren't going to pay and were ditching him. WHY WOULD WE VISIT ONCE AND CALL TWICE IN TWO DAYS IF WE WERE ABANDONING HIM?! THERE WAS NO REASON FOR HIM TO DIE, HE WAS TOTALLY FINE! His bone was shattered but all he needed was surgery to remove shards of what injured him and to put screws in his bones to hold his leg together. He was not ill, not terminal, not infected--NOTHING. THEY KILLED OUR DOG BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO. I would never, EVER recommend this hospital to ANYONE in need of real care for their animal. Positive reviews may come from those who visit for cleanings/clippings, but NOT from an animal in REAL need of REAL help. DO NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL UNLESS YOU DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR ANIMAL!

Horrible, Horrible experience. I would NEVER reccomment this vet to anyone. They do not care about your pet, money is the bottom line and their fees are huge. We took a dog in that was very ill and they refused to even stablize her until we gave them a huge deposit and we were regular customers!!! We were left waiting for an insane amount of time in a exam room while our pet suffered needlessly. No one else was in the clininc so it wasn't as if we were there during a rush hour. I will NEVER EVER take one of my beloved pets to them again.

I stopped using this expensive vet years ago when my husband lost his job. I now use Banfield. However, I continued buying heartworm prevention from VCA FOR THE PAST TEN YEARS, I have purchased it from them every six months for the past ten years. However, today I was told they wouldn't sell it to me anymore, even after I had Banfield fax over his current negative heartworm test from 3 months ago and current shot records.
That's not the worst of it! We brought our other dog, 9-yr-old chihuahua, in for emergency vet care after an infection from a neighbor's dog bite, and they gave him a shot and said he'd be fine! They sold us an expensive antibiotic that we were supposed to start him on the next day! BUT WE COULDN'T GIVE HIM THE ANTIBIOTIC THE NEXT DAY BECAUSE HE DIED OVER-NIGHT! We were devistated! AND THEY REFUSED TO REFUND US FOR THE UNTOUCHED ANTIBIOTIC, EVEN THOUGH WE DIDN'T ASK FOR A REFUND FOR THE EXPENSIVE VET CARE! If you love your dog do not bring him to this INCOMPETENT vet!

Please don't bring your animal here unless you have gobs of money to throw away needlessly.

The staff at VCA is pretty friendly and at first glance its an A+ facility. We brought in our new puppy in at around 6pm in the evening because she was having sneezing fits. We wondered if it was possible she could have allergies and the recent pollen bloom was upsetting her. The office told us it was impossible for a new puppy to have allergies and sent us home with an antibiotic. The visit was pretty expensive and we still weren't sure why she was sneezing so much. The next afternoon the office called us in because they wanted to look up her nose and be sure there wasn't anything stuck up there. We brought her in the vet tried to see if anything was up her nose. He said he couldn't tell and said he was going to bring in another vet to see if she could see anything. The new vet suggested we do a rhinotomy and see if there was anything up there. We declined doing the $1700.00 + procedure and asked for some puppy allergy meds. When we went to check out we were charged for another visit and an extra amount for a specialist visit. We were never told there was going to be an additional amount charged for the vet having another member of the staff assist him. In the end our puppy did have allergies and the staff was trying to talk us into an extra procedure using scare tactics.

They are horrible. They didn't treat the cat right and wanted $575.00 for it. I'm reporting them to the BBB. A huge rip off. I went to a different Vet who did a good job for less. They are horrible, horrible, horrible!!!

I do not recommend anyone take there pet here. The receptionists were clueless and the vet. techs were so rued and not helpful at all, especially one a Mrs. Plourde. You say you love animals but obviously not. you expect these people to care more than anybody since this is your passion. So please go else where.

I had purchased a puppy for my family right before christmas. It turned out that the puppy has been exposed to the distemper virus possibly at the breeder. Our vet suggested that we take our puppy to VCA. In the end our puppy did not make it, but the doctor and the entire staff was absolutely wonderful to us. No matter how many times we called to check on our puppy a staff member was always patient and courteous. Whenever I asked to speak with the Doctor he immediately got on the phone or returned my call in a timely manner. Though we are still deeply sad that we lost our puppy we could not have asked for more caring or kind people to have helped us through this very difficult time.

We have never written a review before, but feel we should warn people about this Vet clinic. We took our Puppy there for shots and felt we were being over charged for "extra's". We went back one month later to complete his treatment , and they took a stool sample. Another month later we showed up on an emergency visit to check an injury to our puppy's leg. First of all, the Dr. told us the worst case scenario, as if it was a given. That basically, our dog would lose function of that leg or have it grow smaller than the others. After they were sure we had signed on the dotted line, $$$, and an excrutiating 30 minute wait... The Dr. told us he had just pulled a muscle ! Oh, and then asked us how we were treating our dog's Giardia ! What Giardia ??? No-one called us to tell us his stool results came back positive !! Oh, and did we know it can pass to human's ?His responce was that it slipped through the cracks but hey, nothing bad happened, so why worry ? So, another $150 later, on top of $500 for Xray's, we left and won't be back. We are disgusted at this place.

The vets are very rude and could care less about your pet. They will charge you a lot of money and do nothing for your pet. My 12 year old dog has been having seizure like symptoms for about 2 weeks. The vet said there isn't anything he is willing to do except send my dog to a neurologist for an MRI. I don't think my dog needs to go to a specialist. It doesn't take a brain surgeon, pardon the expression, to try some medication and/or diagnose something. They also lied to me and told me my dog's blood tests were normal. I finally took my dog to another vet and showed them the blood tests. The results were so far off even I could have seen it. If you care for you pet please find a vet who cares.

I have used Metroplex for many years now. There are approximately 7 vets on staff; and these individuals work extremely well together. The vets, individually, are excellent, and better, if there is a question, they will seek out another vet who is on staff for a second opinion. This is a clearly a team effort. Because they are open at nights, weekends, and holidays, it does not matter when your animal becomes ill, there is vet on duty to provide care. Lastly, because they are a 24 hour facility, if your animal must stay overnight, there are vet techs and vets on hand to monitor their health at all times. Receptionists are also very nice, excellent. Grooming is also provided, the staff there take wonderful care of my dogs.

My pomeranian was attacked by a pit bull. The vet didn't even bother shaving my pet's coat to see if there were any injuries. She just looked at her and gave her a shot and sent us off. By the end of the week my poor little girl had a lump on her side so I took her to my vet and told them the recent history. The first thing the vet tech did was shave my pet's coat to see the extent of the injury. Low and behold my poor little girl was torn to pieces from her shoulder to her hind quarter, bleeding and infected. This vet charged $23 more than my normal vet for the visit. I have contacted the vet but have not heard back yet and it won't matter if I do hear back, I would not recommend them to my worst enemy! My poor little pomeranian is going to have to suffer days of pain and medical attention due to the fact that this vet did not thoroughly exam her in the beginning.

I bring my cockatiel in 3-4 times a year for nail clipping and every time they make it very easy. The building is spotless, the staff is very friendly, and the price is reasonable. The seem to have a regular turnover in avian specialists (about once a year), but the different doctors I've met have all been top-notch.

    PROS: clean, friendly service
