I returned to bowling after 20 years and been living under a rock. Highland is older but the staff is excellent. I joined a league to see what I had been missing and am not disappointed. $9/person unlimited bowling on Sundays (8-12mid) is the bargain of the year. Never had the food but heard it was good. Went to other bowling alleys since and I like this one best....it's HOMEY.

It's pretty much a standard bowling alley. Don't expect too much in the way of fancy facilities, it seems to be pretty old. That said, it's modern enough for most casual bowlers and the food is way better than most lanes I've been to. Expect old rental shoes and slightly worn/chipped balls but a good time nonetheless. Prices are reasonable.

The first time I went, we were not allowed into the bowling alley for about 20 minutes, while a party cleared out. I can understand the idea of renting out an entire bowling alley, but there were no signs posted or explanations, except for a locked door.
Once inside, we found that the charge is $20 an hour. I have problems with hourly charges for a couple reasons, the first being that bowling is a social sport. There is an amount of gloating and trash talking that is crucial for success. I was only there with 1 person, so we got about 3 games together. With four people playing, I feel you'd only have time for 2 games if you're really hurrying, making this some pretty expensive bowling.
On the plus side, there are plenty of lanes and the staff is helpful enough. I can't recommend these lanes if you're looking to take your time to have fun.

The league nights at Highland Lanes is very nice. I like the way they have them set up, with no guess work by the bowlers needed. They have a pro shop right in the alley, and the guy running it is very helpful at drilling balls and customizing your bowling equipment. The price for regular bowling is very affordable as well. They have a great staff, and the alley is clean and lit. The snack bar has some good food too.

I really like Highland lanes, it's one of the oldest bowling alleys in Austin and still going strong. The people are friendly, the place is nicer inside than it used to be, there's arcades for the kids and the food is excellent! It's always busy but more so on fridays and saturdays. Parking is ok. Did I mention how good the food is???
PROS: Great food!

Highland Lanes is located right off of 183 and Burnet Road. There is not enough parking on league nights, but there is parking in other lots nearby. The snack bar has really good food, but the wait in line and then for the food is a little long at times. There are plenty of lanes and clean restrooms. There is also a pro-shop inside the alley with some really cool bowling balls and a nice man who will size a ball for you and make it really comfortable.

I've been bowling here since I was a kid growing up in Austin. I love this place! They've updated it over the years of course...but it has always been fabulous and fun! It is great for bringing friends and for dates. It is a fun way to spend an evening but still being a active.
Pros: Fun, clean!

Highland is a great place to go for that quick lunch time bowling fix. Always lanes open and the staff is very friendly. If you need anything, Steve at the Pro Shop is very helpful. Come out and join me and my friends for a lunch time bowl.
Pros: Best Staff in Town, Consistent Lanes, Great Pro Shop

I love the fact that Highland Lanes has a non-smoking area, so we didn't smell so smoky. I also like the individual computer for each lane, so we didn't have to share the computer with other people.
Pros: Good Price, Non-Smoking Section, 1 Computer per Lane
Cons: Small Area

I have to say with Highland Lanes' upgrades that the place is looking better and better. I have been bowling regularly for practice and league bowling at highland for almost 3 years, and of all the bowling alleys in austin it is one of the best.
The price of bowling is fair and the staff is very helpful, unlike other places in town. The only other place I bowl practice is at Dart Bowl, which is part of the family
Pros: Friendly Staff, Good Value, Recent Upgrades
Cons: Not enough open lanes, older video games, bar area too small

Pros: Maintenance, Management
Cons: Consistency

I didn't enjoy Highland lanes too much because the facilities were not clean and the balls were all chipped or dirty.
